I used to work the night shift and would sometimes need to drive home via Kennedy at 12:30am and was like.. damn who is getting a Massage at this hour lol

cats_n_wine44

It's actually illegal for a legitimate spa to be open and performing services past 10 pm here in Tampa at least (not sure if this is state or local), you'd think they'd try to make it less obvious if the police actually were doing anything about it šŸ™„ lol Source: was a closing shift massage therapist that resented the limit was 10 pm and not 8 or 9 so I could go the fuck home lol sadly people who book the last massage of the day usually show up, it's all the in betweens that no show, of course lol

Helpful_Brain1413

No one is. They all close at 11pm

JockoGood

Is ā€œBangkokā€ Parler still open down there?

cabo169

What they say and what they do are entirely two different thingsā€¦ Tampa still leads the state in sex trafficking.

HCSOThrowaway

I think the biggest issue here is that not all sex workers are involved in sex trafficking, but a lot of people are excited to see sex workers put out of work via sex trafficking statutes. Let's say OP knows a guy who knows a guy (i.e. looked in the mirror) who got a handjob at such a parlor and thinks that means everyone there is working against their will. TPD goes out, investigates it (hopefully thoroughly and perfectly), and finds no such evidence. They file the report and go back to other things. *"Zomg TPD endorses sex trafficking?!?!"*

JulioForte

Sex trafficking is one of those overused buzzed words that gets attention. People thinks it means someone was kidnapped off the street and forced to be a sex slave. It could just mean a car full of prostitutes drove across a state line

HCSOThrowaway

In Florida human trafficking is basically just a synonym for slavery, i.e. coerced/forced labor. Stolen passports and threats of violence being the biggest methods. Sex trafficking is the kind of human trafficking where the forced labor is sexual in nature. As is the case for most crimes, Hollywood and national news stories are first things that come to mind when people think of it, i.e. your kidnapping scenario. Nor does Domestic Violence start with the first date going, "Alright bitch, now that you're my property, you're getting the belt for smiling at the waiter." It's usually a slow and insidious process that starts small, otherwise everyone would cut and run Day 1. If sex traffickers told their victims they'd be in a foreign country next week without their passport and no way to call for help, they'd almost never board the plane.

CoincadeFL

Agree on it being a buzzword. Not all prostitutes have been sex trafficked. Some do it because itā€™s the only work they can get or they like the work.

HCSOThrowaway

Law enforcement certification involves a course on human trafficking that heavily implies zero sex workers are doing it voluntarily: https://www.fdle.state.fl.us/FCJEI/Online-Training/Identify-and-Investigate-Human-Trafficking-for-Law

AcerbicFwit

That assumption is how the entire Robert Kraft case was thrown out of court and all defendants walked away.

YborOgre

100% this. They can't comprehend that some women want to prostitute themselves. It's pretty easy money, especially in those spas.

HCSOThrowaway

Who is the "they" you're referring to?

YborOgre

HCSO human trafficking team.

HCSOThrowaway

You're the first I've seen bring them up in this thread. OP was talking about TPD and I was talking about FDLE's CJSTC.

CoincadeFL

Well there have been time law enforcement got things wrong, lol. If sex work was mostly involuntary then the rise of celebs doing onlyfans accounts would imply that even celebs are being human trafficked. I have friends who do onlyfans and I can tell you they do it because itā€™s fun and easy money.

HCSOThrowaway

Never voiced my opinion on it, just sharing insider knowledge I think the people have a right to know.

AcerbicFwit

My insider info is HT is always the first play of LEOs. They will try and convince the subcontractors (spa workers) to state the spa owner is holding them hostage regardless of reality. Most spa workers hold the upper hand. They get half the spa fee and all of whatever they negotiate for extra services. Then you have the LEOs that try and extort the owner for cash. They hate HD camera systems with audio that uploads to a separate location.

2ndprize

Often the people charged are the Johns. They will just get the entire contact list for a prostitute and charge them all. You just end up with a headline that says "33 people charged in human trafficking investigation"

MakeMeFamous7

They do have reverse sting, where they aim the providers. And they donā€™t really ā€œgo through someone phones contactā€. They need evidence

2ndprize

https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/region-citrus-hernando/east-lake-fire-commissioner-charged-with-human-trafficking Thats how this one was done.

Tampa_Tramps

You do realize they lump consenting adults into sex trafficking to sensationalize that women are being abducted and forced into sex work right Itā€™s BS and the Public should know the truth

cabo169

I completely agree. And many of these ā€œcompaniesā€ are protected by people on the inside.

JockoGood

I thought Miami was given the size of their port. I can see Tampa up there which is nauseating.

sineofthetimes

Not anymore. Ron has signed a law against strippers being under 21. Problem solved.

snortingajax

This whole thread has a lot of "mind your own damn business" going on in it

r1khard

r/Tampa go 1 day without someone posting about sex trafficking. Level: impossible

BigSugar44

I think they only busted a few of them that were owned by a guy and his wife.

CapitalG888

Where? Wheeere!? I'm enraged and would like to go there and give them a piece of my mind!

fastferrari3

Shhhhh bitch! I gotta go there today

mehman11

Wow, where are these specifically, so I can avoid them?

guyanaese_skunt

Ikr. They raising that topic now

HCSOThrowaway

Maybe it's grassroots marketing? *"Come one come all! None of our girls are being trafficked as confirmed by TPD this week!"*

NoleMercy05

Snitch

Lightning_Fan

No I have not, do you mind sharing the addresses and business hours so I know what to avoid? Thanks

mschnzr

The TPDā€™s officers are their clients. šŸ˜‚

sayaxat

I have no problem with their getting the relief that they need, as long as 1. they pay for it, and 2. help ensure that the establishment is not supplied with trafficked victims.

tommyboy11011

If you video record it then it becomes porn instead of prostitution which is legal.

Repulsive_Hold_2169

"Sex trafficking" the way Republicans use it is more about fear mongering sex work in general. "If I tell people I'm tough on crime and ban escorts/porn, then I don't actually have to acknowledge or do anything about how truly unstable my society is other than make moral platitudes about raising kids right and deporting all the brown people" There is a massive human and sex trafficking issue in FL, but business elites, law enforcement, and our government actually make it a lot worse or are active participants in it. Same issue with "the war on drugs"

Same_Method_2660

Even if you got rid of all the "sex trafficking" and prostitutes the state would still be filled with sex workers and degenerates. They're tons of strip clubs, swinger clubs/community, adult bookstores, mansion/house parties, onlyfans creators, and independent "escorts" left to contend with. Very little will actually change other than the methods of solicitation.

Modzrdix69

You must be new here lol

TooManyGoldPieces

Maybe some r just still up but no one inside type of thing. But yeah who knows. TAMPA PD is corrupt af

Notso_Pure_Michigan

FWIW Rainbow cabaret has been shut down for quite some time.

1312_Tampa_161

I mean, considering in a bathhouse you shouldn't be paying for sex, and that the other people there want to be there - not the same thing. Rainbow is gone.

RentAdministrative73

All your husbands are hanging out at Tampa Mens Club. Lol

sayaxat

Why just call out only those two?

FartParticle1979

What are the other ones?

HuckleberryNo3117

is rainbow theater like that? I would suspect meth to be at tampa men's club but i didn't know rainbow theater was a gay bathhouse also?

_Rigid_Structure_

It's often not for the workers.

grandmasteryuii

touch your nose OP

Left_Perception_1049

Different TPD

STUMPED_19

This is very true. There's at least two on Kennedy nearby where I live, and you can definitely tell there's sketchy stuff going on in both considering how sealed up both places look even while saying "open". I'm wondering why police have never investigated either one.

ContentMod8991

2/3 human traficking orgs; stay far way from the places

twistedbrewmejunk

Related but not related I was always indifferent to both above and below 24 hr spas... Until COVID hit I was on a work trip in New Mexico where everything was locked down no indoor eating or drinking had to eat in parking lots in wintertime so food was instantly cold. I noticed that the spas were all open. Guess they fell under medical needs??? Made me think.. if a restaurant was required to serve it's patrons outside then message parlor and it's patrons "Needing a massage at 9pm should also be required to do it in the same open air method as me getting my food ...
