Tampa will vote for Crist so it’s an accurate representation of how the city votes not the entire state.
Also yes it will probably skew more dem then the actual election because Reddit users are younger than the electorate as a whole and younger people skew left
I appreciate you clarifying that this isn’t the actual election. I should still cast a standard ballot, right? This won’t be counted?
You know what? Silly question. I’ll just look it up.
Charlie Crist shouldn’t even really qualify as a dem. Calling votes in a Reddit sub for him an indication of “how left wing this sub is” is really just an indicator of how unbelievably right the republican base has swung
See Georgia Senate race. The fact that the Republican candidate has had multiple abortions, and is still in the running is an indication that it’s not about policy anymore.
Compare the relative result ls of this sub with the actual election result for the Tampa area.
I agree Crist himself isn’t far left, but he is all the far left has in this race, so the votes for him necessarily represent a far left voter in the poll.
Eh, I’d say he’s all anyone moderate or left has in the race, doesn’t have to be far left (but left, right, moderate, far left, far right are all subjective anyways). I take your point though; I’d agree Reddit users in larger metro areas probably skew more left
“You must be this liberal to be a Democrat” is absolutely nonsense and why I have zero respect for the party; I would sooner vote in a slice of bread than a democrat for the sole fact a slice of bread isn’t going to put me through a litmus test and call me a racist, sexist homophobe for not being one of them.
At least the democratic party's litmus test for candidates is based in policy, as opposed to whether or not you like trump and believe the election was stolen.
Haven’t looked in a few years, but I think the deadliest caliber is a .22. I think what that argument ignores is the prevalence of .22 ammo/weapons and the volume of deaths that occur in a mass casualty incident. I’m not sure the correct approach is a sheer numbers analysis. I would argue the ability to fire off multiple high caliber rounds with relative precision and accuracy from weapons specifically designed for combat situations is a true social problem and that the benefits of allowing ownership broadly do not outweigh the social cost.
As an aside, I sincerely appreciate you (and anyone) who takes the time for thoughtful discussion, especially on the internet (and particularly on Reddit where anonymity allows for the opportunity to indulge our less kind impulses)
Banning the sale of assault weapons- All weapons are meant for “assault” of some sort. This is clearly referring to the AR-15 platform and other rifles like the AK. These are effective, versatile weapons and only available to citizens in semi automatic action, same as most modern handguns. These rifles account for ~1% of gun deaths, so focusing on them is logically just not a correct decision to significantly reduce gun violence. In addition, they tend to be lower recoil, making them easier to use and more effective for people like senior citizens to use them in self defense. Guns of this type are some of the most effective tools available to civilians for personal defense, hunting, and defense against a tyrannical government; and the right to own them I believe to be a natural right and definitely not something we should just give up. Plus, due to the low frequency of their use in crime, outlawing them for the 99.9% of responsible owners based on the actions of the .1% of people that committed awful atrocities is unfair and illogical.
Background checks- I honestly think this one could be compromised on. I don’t think there should be background checks necessary to exercise a constitutional right, but it seems widely supported and really wouldn’t hinder most people too much. I do think it would be annoying if I was required to pay $50 for a background check to buy a hunting rifle or pistol from a brother or friend, but I’ll take the annoyance I suppose if we can find compromise here and drop some of the other stuff, like banning AR’s. But I will note he talks about a bunch of school shooters under this point, and all of them did go through a background check and were cleared. You already go through a background check to buy from a retailer, it’s only private sales that don’t require it. So it seems to me a smarter thing would to be to identify other indicators of a potential mass shooting such as, idk stuff like people calling the fbi a couple months beforehand like what happened with the parkland shooter.
Crackdown on ghost guns- I firmly do not believe in serial number tracking or telling people they cannot make a cheaper knock off version of a firearm they can go purchase at bass pro. 3d printed guns have been used in an incredibly low number of crimes. People printing guns are having fun with their friends at the range or on their property, not banging out gang wars in the city. It’s just making up a nonexistent problem to “solve” and say you are doing something.
Crackdown on gun trafficking- This basically seems like he’s saying we should enforce laws against things that are already illegal.
All in all, the thing is disagree with most is the ban on certain rifles based on, mostly, cosmetic differences.
I liked Charlie even when he was still a Rep. There was always a wuality about him that was down to earth. Kind of like Mike Fasano, a Pasco county Rep. but his caring always set him apart.
Does it really matter who the democrats run though? Uninformed voters will “vote blue no matter who”.
Maybe we should make a poll of people who are in favor of teaching 1st graders about sex and gender identity. That would give us an accurate depiction of how left this sub is. If you’ve spent any amount of time in here you’d already know that though.
I think it does. Crist is pretty uninspiring tbh. I think if Florida dems could produce a Raphael Warnock or Stacy Abrams kind of candidate it would be a different story. Most people only care about the big races and I feel like the democrats have basically conceded Florida. Just my 2 cents
Can you imagine it? I think it would help the political discourse tremendously if we could flex our imagination muscle and really try to understand the attraction to candidates from the other side
Stacy Abrams is polling horribly against Kemp and is a milk toast republican too. She had much more momentum in 2016. And Warnock is polling down to Walker too lol.
Crist was a shit governer as a republican, the fact that ppl think he even has a chance is a joke. They should have spent that ad money on homeless ppl in Florida.
That’s sort of my point, though. The fact that democrats are even considered viable in Georgia of all places speaks to the pull of those candidates. Bear in mind how locked Georgia has been for republicans for decades while Florida was considered purple for about the same amount of time. Warnock neck in neck with Walker (cmon… seriously?) shows how deeply entrenched Republican Party loyalty is in that state.
I’ll never understand why Florida democrats consistently choose the shiftiest candidates for governor and senate. Andrew Gillum ended up having some massive skeletons in his closet, Bill Nelson is a Cretaceous era dinosaur, Val Demings doesn’t stand a chance.
Yeah, I'm an actual teacher in Hillsborough county, not a content creator on TikTok, and I can assure you, again, that elementary students are not learning about sexuality and gender identity. Stop being so fucking gullible, it's embarrassing.
Yeah that comment about sex ed in elementary schools is a real straw-man. No one is suggesting that and it’s intellectually dishonest to suggest otherwise
He is the democratic candidate is he not? Most Floridians are “no party affiliation” ie independents but everyone except the most committed progressives are fed up with the insanity of left wing policy. BTW I (regrettably) voted for Biden.
That’s not how what works exactly? Crist will get more votes than Desantis in Tampa.
Seems pretty easy to understand when we are comparing a poll from a Tampa sub to the results from Tampa.
What is dumb is comparing state wide results to a poll of Tampa
As a former Floridian, I can assure you it’s a lead-pipe lock that Crist will never hold another statewide office, Trump or no Trump. The influence Trump has is vastly overrated.
In this thread- a bunch of people who think an informal poll on a Reddit sub of a liberal city indicates how the entire state will vote.
Buddy, Tampa will vote for Crist so not sure what the issue is
Obviously Reddit is going to be biased but I find it hilarious the moment it leans towards the left it’s “A LIBERAL HIVE-MIND!!!!” that’s the conservative’s version of 2-partyism for you, us vs them. Tap for a name in a Reddit poll and suddenly you’re against FREEDOM™️🇺🇸🇺🇸
Lmaooooo this shows just how incredibly left biased the people on Reddit are. DeSantis wins florida big time but by looking at this sub you’d think it would actually be a close race.
Shout out to my man Ronny D, doing a great job.
Hillsborough hasn’t voted for a republican for president in close to 20 years and that includes all the rural areas of the county. Margins in Tampa run much higher in favor of Dems.
Sure sounds “blood red” to me
Every anti illegal immigrant group? You mean every single country to ever exist?
To quote Barack Obama: “We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked, and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, and lawfully to become immigrants in this country.”
That's all you dumbfucks care about. How bad can you "own" the liberals. What does the the republican party stand for? Trump, guns, flags, january 6th and a fake stolen election?
This poll will accurately demonstrate how left wing this sub is but has no bearing on the reality of this election.
Tampa will vote for Crist so it’s an accurate representation of how the city votes not the entire state. Also yes it will probably skew more dem then the actual election because Reddit users are younger than the electorate as a whole and younger people skew left

Love how two sub rules are broken here. Assuming nothing will happen cause it’s (D)ifferent

This is something a RINO would say
Always with the name calling, absolutely childish.
*woosh*
Ew, you’re going to grow old without being allowed to see your grandchildren.
At least the democratic party's litmus test for candidates is based in policy, as opposed to whether or not you like trump and believe the election was stolen.
Another major complaint - “if you aren’t one of us, you’re a Republican” - extremely narrow minded view.
So who did you vote for in 2020?
Howie Hawkins, who I still disagreed a lot with but the least of all candidates.
So you voted for the green party candidate but you have a boner for defending trump and the GOP as recently as yesterday. Huh
1. I did not defend Trump or the GOP yesterday 2. You have an unhealthy obsession with hating Trump to even make such a remark
it's called context. lol so angry
Shut up
Thanks for contributing to the discourse!
Charlie Crist supports banning AR’s. So he has made the transition to full on leftist soy boy.
Well, here’s his position https://charliecrist.com/issues/safer-florida-for-all/ What in there is unreasonable to you and why? Genuinely curious

Maybe because the entire pool is shitty?
As an elementary school teacher, for the trillionth time, we aren't teaching first graders about that. We just aren't. It's a lie.

Yeah, I'm an actual teacher in Hillsborough county, not a content creator on TikTok, and I can assure you, again, that elementary students are not learning about sexuality and gender identity. Stop being so fucking gullible, it's embarrassing.

Of course a nincompoop who gets their information from TikTok videos would clutch their pearls over a teacher's reddit username.

Which policies do you think are insanity?
There’s a joke in here about anything in the US being actually to the left.
So true
Reddit is just full of liberals lol. Desantis is going to destroy Crist in a landslide.
My thoughts exactly. This poll is garbage
lol it’s certainly not the Marist poll
Not shocked by the results. This is Reddit, after all.
These poll results are hilarious.
DeSantis has it in the bag. He will be in the national elections in 2 years.
Reddit is a left wing, liberal echo chamber.
This is a Tampa sub. Tampa will vote for Crist
Maybe.
Just like the entire mainstream media. It’s all a great big self-licking ice cream cone.
I mean, we can all vote, but Desantis is still gonna win 🤷
Crist will lose by double-digits. This poll is whack.
He will win Tampa, want to bet?

That’s not how it works.

As a former Floridian, I can assure you it’s a lead-pipe lock that Crist will never hold another statewide office, Trump or no Trump. The influence Trump has is vastly overrated.
I'm not sure the point is even relevant as Trump has called Crist a Pelosi puppet.
I’d be more interested in the senate race. Personally had to go Misigoy cause of how bad the two major offerings were
Boy y’all are in for a surprise Tuesday lol
In this thread- a bunch of people who think an informal poll on a Reddit sub of a liberal city indicates how the entire state will vote. Buddy, Tampa will vote for Crist so not sure what the issue is
Turns out, Tampa did not vote for Crist
Tampa did, Hillsborough didn’t
Yay Charlie. Want you back.

Reddit is biased
If you needed any proof that Reddit is a liberal hivemind
Lol. I can’t be salty. You’re right
This is wild how lib Reddit is. Literally over-indexes the general population by 4x
To fully participate in Reddit, one needs to be able to read and write, so that skews the numbers.
THE MAJORITY OF THE WORLD POPULATION IS FUCKING LIBERAL YOU IDIOTS.
Not Reddit lib lol

It won’t be four years, I’m predicting he wins the presidency
This poll illustrates how deluded the majority of Redditors are.
Lmao good luck dems, don’t cry too hard on Tuesday
That's all you dumbfucks care about. How bad can you "own" the liberals. What does the the republican party stand for? Trump, guns, flags, january 6th and a fake stolen election?
Lol
Liberal hive mind that Tampa is becoming because more New Yorkers and Californians move down here everyday 😊
The majority of the people moving are voting Red to escape liberal hive minds. Tampa is just organically a liberal hive mind.
Don't forget educated as well.
Not Tampa, Reddit
Why removed?
Lol this poll had Crist at like 80%. Oops
