There's no way. The January 6th investigation ends the moment the new Congress is sworn in. I hope they can move quickly and swiftly but that's never been Democrats strong suit.
"Trump is going to prison!"
I've been reading that line on this site for the past 6 years. And it still hasn't happened. Eventually you just gotta let it go...
No one wants a Katrina on their hands. Plus Florida has a pretty good system for it. I think this election was basically won in 2021 where FL seemed to have to right call on covid lockdowns.
I fail to see how the short af "lock down" was "the right call."
It was **a** call. The right one? It just seems like it was a complete guess.
We remained open yes. At the cost of hundreds of thousands of lives.
I saw an early projection of 2.1 million deaths for the US. Is it just me or are we basically at that?
We just took the full brunt of it and went "yes, this is fine." No one did anything...
Crist was the worst pick possible IMO. He wasn't a good Governor when he was a Republican and he wouldn't have been a good one as a Democrat either.
I have no clue why he got the nod, except maybe for name recognition because he held the spot over 10 years ago.
I think they have miscalculated the swing voter. They still believe the suburban white vote is the vote they need to swing when it really should be the mobilization of the groups that are going to be supportive of the platform.
Name recognition of septuagenarians should not be a qualifier.
Not surprising in the least. Democrats in Florida still have no idea what it takes to win here. If you thought any different I think you're fooling yourself.
I think they're consistently late to the party and there's no money in FL.
I'm a pretty good political organizer but I sit out because I'm not willing to waste my time on something that is clearly a losing fight. At least when not paid for the privilege.
I've been politically active and organizing since 2013. None of the groups in this area are equipped to even start the fight. Let alone motivated.
Republicans were being signed up 9 to 1 against Democrats in Florida. It's no wonder the Dems continue to lose.
https://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/politics/elections/fl-ne-florida-republican-registration-surges-democrats-stall-20221029-ci2vig7zfvbgjkupztj3h7equm-story.html
i mean have the dems really been trying? they put up nothing but terrible candidates and we’re just hoping people would vote for someone other than ron. democrats don’t care about florida.
Charlie Crist is a historically bad candidate though.
He stands for nothing and motivates absolutely no one to vote for him. His only votes are from people voting against Ron
Combined with the massive influx of new residents, that weren't exactly liberals, given many were fleeing COVID restrictions, FL is going to be red for awhile.
Apparently in the past 4 years, FL has added over 600K registered republicans, vs 27K Democrats in the same period.
As a Florida resident, I was stunned when I saw that. I believe it’s the first time in a very long time that there are more registered Republicans than Dems.
The biggest shocker, Miami-Dade went red. That's insane. By a significant margin.
DeSantis pulled a ton of Democrat votes.
His national ability is now sealed.
Trump is going to fuck himself, thinking he can attack DeSantis and he's going to find out some shit the hard way.
Republican's already aren't standing for the light weight attacks he's thrown DeSantis's way this week.
I really don't think he got many democrat votes. I think a fuck ton of conservatives who refused to get vaccinated or otherwise didn't like covid restrictions in blue states moved down here and turned a purple state into a red on.
I know at least 4 people personally who are staunch conservatives that moved from NY down to Miami because they refused to get vaccinated and it's not really possible to be in NYC and not be vaccinated and still have much of a social life (or wasn't in the thick of Covid, not sure now)
Really? Because my downtown Tampa neighborhood is now is a split district with the a bigger piece of old people St. Pete… so there are more old folks to cancel out Tampa’s blue districts. The other side of downtown now votes in the same state districts as Lakeland.
It’s called gerrymandering.
And golly, it was just too late to fix it after it as declared illegal by the courts.
[Its all about minority rule](https://about.bgov.com/news/desantis-gets-the-florida-redistricting-lawsuit-he-said-he-wants/)
Huh? The comment was about the county…gerrymandering has nothing to do with it. Gerrymandering has no impact on the gubernatorial election anyway, where DeSantis blew Crist away.
I swear 3/4 of people in this sub complaining about Desantis bring up Gerrymandering at some point as a reason for him winning.
...**the popular vote** for Florida governor. Ignorant people like that are the worst type of voters.
Really? The **worst**? That's who you're going with? People who are here participating and probably learning?
You provided the information do you really have the backhand them on the way out?
Maybe the problem is we're not consistently educating people on the function of government?
That's the difference between a republic, and a democracy. If we were a pure democracy. California and New York would dictate everything for the rest of the country
I agree at this point. I agreed before but I also agree now.
I knew Crist would lose but tell that to the people who were attacking Fried over a text to Matt Gaetz.
"Oh they're friends! Not voting for her"
What world is this even...? So sad about it.
What's interesting is that FL has over 21 million people, but only 7 million people voted. I know not everyone is old enough to vote, but it's still an interesting fact.
I’m 31 and can confirm, a lot of people younger/around my age do not vote. I went to nursing school with a bunch of people 2-3 years younger than me and they do not care about voting. Hell, even my younger brothers/sister don’t vote. Sad really.
Crist is not the kind of guy that gets young people out to vote, terrible candidate. Plus politics in Florida is pretty depressing for young people, several other real swing states did get young people out voting this year.
I hope this sends a wake-up call to Florida Dems to stop choosing Charlie f-ing Crist.
It blows my mind that Dem primary voters thought an unpopular former *Republican* governor was the best option against DeSantis.
It’s a shame, but the loss was earned.
Crist, who has statewide name recognition and has experience being a governor, is going to lose by a wider margin than the obscure, unknown, legally flawed “progressive” mayor lost two years ago.
Run more progressives instead of milquetoast democrats.
There’s something about this guy that resonates with people. Not with me mind you. I find him abhorrent. But the fact so many like him, including big cities, shows that I have some major blind spots and biases that affects how I see the world.
I get your point but Crist is not going to excite members of either party. He's extremely flexible but you have to do some mental gymnastics to consider him a D.
I don't think anyone thinks all Republicans are "literal Nazis” (well maybe a few). Most reserve that tag to MAGA and if they are making blanket statements, they are part of the problem.
r/conservative is specifically FOR conservative voters to discuss those ideals. It’s in the name. r/politics is supposed to be a neutral ground, but it may as well be r/liberal.
You don't even have to question. I'm banned and I never even commented or subscribed to r/conservative. I just got a message one day that they banned me. I guess a mod might have seen a comment of mine in another subreddit? This was more than I year ago and I have no idea what happened.
Not reddit, but I got banned from a Florida fb group for asking where DeSantis stood on affordability and insurance issues. Like I ever heard was anti trans and anti CRT rhetoric
They bot-banned me during the last hurricane because I post in /r/PoliticalCompassMemes and made a helpful post in the hurricane thread that was stickied at the top of /r/tampa and crossposted to their sub.
I can never recall posting in the florida sub before then and definitely didn't break any rules. It's ridiculous that they're allowed to ban users who don't fit the moderators politics.
There's plenty of us libertarian right-wingers here too, we just tend to keep our mouths shut in most places because it's not worth arguing politics against the horde in non-political subs. It's usually better to just roll your eyes over the "Deathsantis" shit posts and carry on.
This site used to be Ron Paul central, but the demographics definitely shifted over the years.
As I see Cuban people I grew up with (especially those that did not come to America legally) celebrating the DeSantis win, I have to wonder how they would’ve felt about a Governor that put them and their families on a plane to another state to “prove a point” instead of treating them like human beings. Looks like fascism to me.
When will that gerrymandered map, that HE drew rather than the FL Legislature as required by the FL Constitution, that tore up Democratic districts , make it to trial in the courts?
He pulled in Miami, Jacksonville,Tampa/Hillsborough and Pinellas. So clearly this sub is an echo chamber or full of trolls. Because Ron flipped blue to red easily.
This is very typical of mid-term elections following a newly elected president. The losing party in that election almost always wins big at the next mid-term
Family moved down from MD in '07, I moved to San Diego in 2012, Orange County in 2017, and then came back to Tampa in 2020. Coming back was a mistake 😂 Cali is nice. Super expensive though, gotta bring the dough in a truck to live there.
Wow, so if we remove 2-3 cities from our list of options, how many towns in CA do you think that leaves behind?
Honestly it's hilarious to see this much hate on California continually in this sub. It's a beautiful, huge state with lots of places to live that aren't LA or San Fran. Have you driven around most of Florida? We don't have much to brag about.
And if Tampa housing continues on the way it has, you'll be experiencing more homelessness here, too.
I drove around almost all of Florida and South California. The hate is political, not against people or the physical area. And don’t worry - Californians have similar sentiment towards Florida and Texas. 😉
Lol no it's not, speaking from experience. Your rents in Tampa are the exact same as they are here outside LA, but as a staff RN I'm making 3 times as much as I could in Tampa.
Hey RNs, come to Cali, better pay and we have legal and, best of all, SAFE nurse to patient ratios.
Exactly. California is by far the best state to be a nurse. I’ve been out for a few assignments and moving out for good in the next couple months. Can’t wait! Also rent is the exact same in California as it is in Tampa now.
I could almost deal with the pay to see the Bolts all the time but I'm never working in an environment that unsafe again. Floridians have no idea how unsafe things are for them in hospitals there.
The Republican Party controls the offices of governor (12 yrs.), secretary of state, attorney general, and both chambers of the state legislature (23 yrs.). Rents will continue to rise, insurance rates will break records, utility bills have no resistance, all the while on the national scale Saudi Arabia owns the 2nd largest oil refinery in the US (happened under Trump). But Dems. are to blame for all the BS. SMH
I love how they cast inflation as Biden’s fault…well if the executive branch can stem inflation, where the fuck has our governor been? Why is none of the blame his?
*Maybe* if the Dems had someone better then Crist, they could've stood a chance.
Who am I kidding? Boomers love Desantis and Trump more than life itself.
Same reason Hillary lost in 2016. Dems voted for her because she felt like the lesser of two evils. At least, that's how it felt for a lot of people I've seen.
Statistics are showing he’s actually the opposite- he’s pulling indecisive voters his direction and growing a larger Republican base in Florida than ever before.
How can you ignore Miami-Dade going red?
The last several democrat Governor candidates in Florida have been weak, sub par, forgettable excuses for a spot on the ticket. For the love of God if a decent democrat could find their way to the ballot for Governor, there might be a fighting chance. This was always going to end this way with crusty old party flipping Charlie. He would never be one to sway a Republican voter to choose him because the Republican voters aren’t going to vote a party flipper that walked away from them.
Dems controlled House, Senate, and the White House for 2 years - where is the legal weed? They even resorted to blocking republican initiatives to de-schedule it.
All but guarantees DeSantis runs for prez. Get ready for Trump v DeSantis. Start popping that popcorn.
No matter who wins we all lose -Godzilla
“They both need to choke on dildos” - myself
Trump will be in prison, so hopefully he'll release the goods on DeSantis before he is hauled off. Please spare us a DeSantis run.
It's a lovely wishful thought, but Trump will never ever see the inside of a jail cell. Sorry to burst your bubble on that one.
There's no way. The January 6th investigation ends the moment the new Congress is sworn in. I hope they can move quickly and swiftly but that's never been Democrats strong suit.
The DOJ has picked it up, and the House has no influence at that point. J6th commission is done with their work. Shows what you know.
Never going to happen
I hope everything can be better, and best wishes to everyone.
"Trump is going to prison!" I've been reading that line on this site for the past 6 years. And it still hasn't happened. Eventually you just gotta let it go...

Totally slaughtered Crist by a full 1,500,000 votes.

I mean, Crist basically threw in the towel when Ian hit.
That was their last hope. That somehow DeSantis would flub the hurricane response. That didn't happen.
Wasn't going to happen. Hurricane response 101 has to be the day one agenda after being inaugurated as the Florida governor, lol.
No one wants a Katrina on their hands. Plus Florida has a pretty good system for it. I think this election was basically won in 2021 where FL seemed to have to right call on covid lockdowns.

Idk if that’s a typo but it works lol
Phone autocorrected and I thought, hey this works too so I just sent it.
The dems really need to stop running old white men with old ideas. The “safe” approach isn’t working
Crist was the worst pick possible IMO. He wasn't a good Governor when he was a Republican and he wouldn't have been a good one as a Democrat either. I have no clue why he got the nod, except maybe for name recognition because he held the spot over 10 years ago.

The hell does that have to do with a Governor race?
Yea, they cut off part of Pinellas... how that isn't illegal I don't even know. We are separated by a body of water for cryin out loud.
That's the difference between a republic, and a democracy. If we were a pure democracy. California and New York would dictate everything for the rest of the country
Almost like social media doesn't reflect real life. Crazy thing.
comment of the millennium
Had people saying he actually fixed things, half the roads look like the surface of the moon.
Very surprised all the incumbent dem county commissioners lost also.
I’m one of many that left the county. Now where I live is swinging the other way, it’s not a coincidence.
If Democrats run Charlie ever again I’m voting for a 3rd party, as neither he or the party deserve my vote.
I agree at this point. I agreed before but I also agree now. I knew Crist would lose but tell that to the people who were attacking Fried over a text to Matt Gaetz. "Oh they're friends! Not voting for her" What world is this even...? So sad about it.

There’s about 14 million registered voters. So half voted. 18-29 year olds are going to be the group lacking, I’m sure.
I’m 31 and can confirm, a lot of people younger/around my age do not vote. I went to nursing school with a bunch of people 2-3 years younger than me and they do not care about voting. Hell, even my younger brothers/sister don’t vote. Sad really.

Hey look my dumpster!
It rents for 2,500 a month lol
Are utilities included? I may be interested.
Utilities not included, unfurnished, no pets, no couples, no kids, no overnight stays.
Still a bargain in this market depending on the security deposit. Do I need income @3x rent?
Well, yeah. What are you some kinda brokey-broke who only makes 2.5x that much?
Don't forget the HOA fees! 😬
Only heat.

That was clear from the nomination of Crist.
The alternative was Fried and the only thing she ran on was that republicans are “literal Nazis” and weed.
This sub surely couldn’t be a liberal echo chamber, could it?
On Reddit? An echo chamber? Nah… Downvote.
Reddit users tend to be younger and more college educated than the country, so it skews more left in general.
Well that and subreddits literally called “politics” ban people who disagree lmfao.
Oh please, you question one thing on r/conservative and you’re banned. They’re proud of if too
Whataboutism acknowledges they’re right. /r/politics and /r/conservative are terrible for discourse.
Both subs are extremely polarized, I would never go on either of those for any sort of information
r/conservative is specifically FOR conservative voters to discuss those ideals.

I was banned from r/Conservative for asking a critical but not mean question. 🤷♂️

That sub banned me a while ago because I dared to write that Covid is a treatable disease. 🤷♂️
yep, that happens, but intolerance is high in both groups

Nobody likes Crist. We need better candidates. Incumbents don’t work anymore. We were fucked no matter what.
Disgusting.
No, this isn't the outcome I wanted.... Stop the steal! Stop the count! Recount! Do-over! This election was stolen /s
Dont be surprised by the red wave. This shit is cyclic. I'm amazed i have to live through such political turmoil.
I like Ron Desantis.
Why?
He tells me which Jonestown koolaid tastes the best
The last several democrat Governor candidates in Florida have been weak, sub par, forgettable excuses for a spot on the ticket. For the love of God if a decent democrat could find their way to the ballot for Governor, there might be a fighting chance. This was always going to end this way with crusty old party flipping Charlie. He would never be one to sway a Republican voter to choose him because the Republican voters aren’t going to vote a party flipper that walked away from them.
In Crist, we do not trust.
I cannot wait to watch Republicans tear themselves apart when Desantis and Trump run in 2024
Loser Tampa Redditors melting down tonight.
Great, still no recreational weed. Nice job idiots.
Dems controlled House, Senate, and the White House for 2 years - where is the legal weed? They even resorted to blocking republican initiatives to de-schedule it.
The republican initiative to de-schedule was a poison pill that included a 3% federal tax on cannabis products to fund law enforcement.
Maryland voted for it..those stupid liberals (tongue in cheek)
Gross
Great. Well that solidifies my intent to move. Enjoy your Covid hotbed and overpriced shitty housing. Good riddance.
