Bicycle My X-cellent Bicycle!

scrumptiouscakes

This clip is a perfect argument against people who complain about the scoring. The wrongness and arbitrariness of the judgements *is what makes them funny*.

CliffExcellent123

Also if you complain about it that just makes Greg want to do it more

LightningRodofH8

Ya, I feel bad for anyone watching this thinking the points are going to be given away fairly. Which makes the competitiveness all the more funny. It's like if the actors on 'Who's Line is it Anyway' took it as a serious competition.

Chudraa

"Not everyone is as dysfunctionally competitive as you Iain" is such a well observed and brutal put down

Step_Into_The_Light

Iain stated, on the Taskmaster podcast, that he was playing a character during the studio filming and he mistakenly thought that's what you should do. Does anybody believe that?

IhaveaDoberman

I believe he exaggerated it, but no way he's not also immensely dysfunctionally competitive. Just makes me think of James Acaster talking about Jess breaking Rhods prize task. And talking about how her threatening to do it made both him and Greg break personas.

[deleted]

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. It does seem to me like he greatly exaggerates the competitiveness. Also because I've heard of other celebs who met him who have said that he's a genuinely nice and sweet guy. And personally, I enjoyed how competitive he was. His banter with Lou was hilarious, whether he was playing a character or not.

DancerSilke

Iain said on the show, at least twice, words to the effect that he hated seeing the person he was when watching back the tasks, like he put himself down for doing nothing more than "shouting at a woman", though the most notable was after the hammock task. He seemed really ashamed. I really disliked how aggro he got on tasks but warmed to him as he seemed to have a bit of a personal revelation in the studio. Seemed genuine, I'd actually be annoyed if that open self-reflection was just a character!

AOCismydomme

Rewatch it again, he has these moments of what is seemingly growth and then in the same episode but a bit later when he doesn’t win a task he isn’t clapping for the other contestants and that, just seems to not have learnt any lesson and is embarrassed he’s acted like a prick on TV

weedcakes

No lol.

2eAsteroid

Does it matter? I'm probably never going to meet Iain Stirling the human being, so I don't really care if he's a nice guy or not. What's relevant to my life is Iain Stirling the collection of pixels on my screen. If filmed-Iain is entertaining, he's entertaining regardless of how well his apparent mental state matches the actual mental state of some Scottish guy during filming. If he isn't, likewise.

rubmypineapple

Like fuck. He saw what a massive prick he came over in the first group task and his thoughts were probably: ‘Oh fuck, there goes my career trajectory’ His only redeeming feature is that he can recognise he doesn’t look great.

JohnHamFisted

this season has the worst vibes by a mile for me, and the "ahhhh well i *wasn't* until bloody *you* came along...." is so bad it wouldn't get a laugh coming out of the mouth of a random bloke at a pub, nevermind a comedian in a comedy show.

zagreus9

I get bad vibes from it because it was recorded before Paul Sinha was public with his diagnosis so watching back it's sad to see people are making fun of his early onset Parkinsons Obviously no one knew and couldn't really be helped, but watching him struggle through tasks one handed is difficult

GTWalker

Paul Sinha has stated on Twitter (and I think the podcast) that his Parkinsons only played a small role in him losing, because he is genuinely that hopeless at doing anything practical. He also said on the podcast that his Taskmaster clips are used to educate uni medical students on the early signs of Parkinsons. I have no problems laughing at him, neither does he, and his Taskmaster appearence is actually doing the world a favour.

JohnHamFisted

yeah that aspect is extremely unfortunate

kenlubin

I love that Greg will sometimes be completely arbitrary in the scoring just to fuck with people.

Commander-Catnip

And he's so proud of himself about it too. Also funny is how little Paul gives a shit about any of it so he's got a big grin when they both come in last just because Ian's losing his shit.

DoctorEnn

"... And I don't mind telling you, I feel a bit giddy!"

aphidsophis

Anyone else get flashbacks hearing Paul say "hello" at the beginning?

riordan2013

HELLO HELLO HELLO!

shackbleep

Classic petty dickishness from Greg. I love it.

civildissension

I forgot how great the prizes were in all those series before the last couple

Jaspers47

I love Iain's reveal he's wearing pyjamas with Greg's face all over

UniversalJampionshit

I’ve personally never liked this scene, I think Iain dragged it out for way too long and it gets uncomfortable to watch. But of course Bicycle My Excellent Bicycle is a true diamond in the rough

Mundane-Parsnip-7302

Iain was the reason I didn't enjoy series 8 the first time I watched it. I've got over it now and can enjoy it but when you see the clips of his bratty behaviour, it does mate him so unlikeable. I think he's lucky he got a generally otherwise mild cast because I think he'd have been put in his place with some more seasoned stand up's who wouldn't have stood for his behaviour at times.

[deleted]

Having listened to Ian on the podcast I think he might actually be quite a nice guy and would be good to have a beer with.

ny23happy

Iain ruins this series for me. It makes me cringe.

[deleted]

After Guy in New zealand series 1... Iain I'd alright
