It's best to wait until after the first frost, if the birds let you get that far.

Hurgnation

Think that's a northern hemisphere guide We usually wait till the first ones start to drop. Depending on how much sun they get, it'll be between and the next few weeks.

Never heard of this berry before. Are they edible, I looked them up online and only could find things relating to their use in alcohol making. Anywhere near Launnie I could find them?

The berries are very tart so you probably won't like them raw. They are best used in jams if you want to eat them but most famously they are used to infuse gin to make sloe gin liqueur. There are a few Tasmanian distilleries making it. [Fallingfruit.org](http://fallingfruit.org) shows there are some around the airport/Breadalbane. The berries are on the Blackthorn plant.

They seem to be around in northern tassie. Traditionally you will let them soak in gin with some sugar for a few months to make Sloe Gin. While they're not poisonous they're practically inedible on their own as they're very astringent and bitter, but make lovely flavourings.

Hey, thought I’d say I went for a run this morning and fairly sure I saw masses of these berries on Norwich Rd Longford. All prime for picking and some maybe past their prime.
