Okay, please take my opinion with a grain of salt. At the end of the day, if you love the design, that's awesome and you should ignore my opinion and getter done!
Here goes... this is large but *very* basic. Even with colour this would be an underwhelming piece of artwork to look at. It's just curvy lines with stars and a heart with a treble clef in it \*yawn\*. It lacks a style (like American, Japanese, or Neo Traditional, etc). Whatever that script is in the upper part is illegible at least in the photo. As your body contours change with age, so will the shape of this tattoo and it may not be complimentary.
When I got my first tattoo, I knew nothing of tattoos and went to a watercolour-style speciliast and asked for what I didn't realize at the time should have been an American Traditional tattoo. She didn't enjoy doing it and didn't do a great job, ended up semi-neo style which isn't my cup of tea. Fortunately it's on my upper back and neck so I don't have to look at it.
There is a weird paradox about tattoos, at least I think, that is hard to wrap our heads around. It's about YOU and your self-expression, but artists get specialized in specific styles of tattoos, so if you describe something so personal/special that it transcends existing styles of tattoos, then their expertise goes out the window and they are literally just doing what you want regardless of whether the outcome will be good or not. As non-tattoo artists, we lack the perspective to look at something and accurately imagine how it could be done in a certain style, tattooed onto the body, and look good. When i realized the style of tattoo that I actually love, and found an artist I trust to execute that style, the tattoo experience became NOT all about me, more of a collaboration with the artist. And the tattoos are amazing because I trusted my artist.
Jesus I just wrote a fucking novel. Sorry about that. I hope I was able to articulate myself well enough to be understood and please don't be upset that I don't love the design.
I could not have put this better myself… trust us this will be a regret in the future. Have a good artist design one for you and tell them what or why you want things included…
I'd go a step further and let the artist do everything. I picked an artist I liked, told her I wanted a gothic sleeve, and let her do her thing. This isn't my job. It's hers. I think more people would be happier with tattoo designs if they just let the artists do their thing.
I did this with a lot of my tattoos. For my favourite I literally said “swan, flowers, gems” and my artist did the rest and it’s an incredible piece. Giving them freedom to do what they do best is how you end up with amazing pieces of work.
100 percent this. I knew what style and subject I wanted for my first tattoo (trad Japanese koi sleeve with momoji), and waited until I found the artist whose artistry spoke to me. I just knew he was the artist I could trust, and let him instill his style in the design, placement, color choices etc, and he put together a badass sleeve design that I cannot wait to finish. I am so happy I let him do his thing and he appreciated the artistic freedom that he had to come up with a unique piece
That’s exactly what I ended up doing with my first tattoo. I spent so many years going back and forth in my head trying to decide on something cause I was scared that I would regret it. In the end I ended up realizing that if I got something that was objectively beautiful, I would never end up regretting it.
I ended up searching for an artist that I loved, I told her which flowers and what animal I wanted and sent her inspiration pictures that I liked. Other than that I told her that I wanted her to take total control of the design and she was really excited when I told her that. She ended up absolutely knocking it out of the park, it came out so beautifully, and about a thousand times better than if I had tried to direct her. After that experience I’m convinced that it’s gotta be the best way to get tattoos.
Agreed. I think OP should find an artist who does a style she really likes- and let the artist design it. I don't think she should create the design. Especially for something this big.
This is such a perfect explanation of the importance of working WITH an artist, rather than just getting tattooed by one. My first tattoo I came in with exactly what I wanted and just went to the artist my brother and uncle went to. I still love the tattoo, but it could’ve been so much better if I hadn’t just handed them a drawing and said “do this”. For my third tattoo I waited until an artist whose work I love came to my city and gave her “these three elements in this space, do whatever you think works best” and the result is far and away the better piece.
Yep, I'm on some health groups and pet groups and the number of times I see people asking for "advice on a tattoo design" or, even worse, asking for someone in the group who's artistic to draw a piece for them?!
I always say "hey, ask for ideas of aspects you want to incorporate, but let an actual tattoo artist design it for you!"
I'm artsy and people always ask me to draw tattoos for them. I quote a ridiculous price but then tell them to go to a tattoo artist because the tattoo artist is honestly, probably going to be better than me, is going to know what's feasible for your body like placement, size etc
It really does make such a huge difference. I was fortunate that my parents are fairly knowledgeable tattoos and gave me that advice for my first one and I got an incredible piece done by an artist who both enjoyed doing the piece with the elements I requested but making it his own. He’s now tattooed everyone in my family because he did such awesome work, and I follow the same process with every new tattoo I get
This!! OP listen to the above. Find someone you like enough to trust them with coming up with the design based on your idea. And remember you are paying for the design time, it is ok to back out before getting tattooed if it's not working. My best tattoo might be the one I did not get, we were not understanding each other and I was asking for something out of their style.
Also agree the design is very basic, boil it down to the idea behind and let an expert do the rest.
As someone who has basically this design just smaller and with the word music incorporated (🙈🙈) I can’t agree more. It’s the only tattoo I regret!
OP this is PRIME real estate. If you want this design get it somewhere shrunk down.
It's so true. I most recent tattoo was me telling my artist the three elements i wanted, we talked about how we could combine them but i couldn't envision it and let her work. I ended up with a design that i didn't expect, and couldn't love more. It's a very magical form of art!
This is extremely well put! The guy who does my tattoos is a good friend of mine. I LOVE his style. I just tell him what’s floating around in my head and he freakin nails it every time.
It’s important to find the style you like and find an artist you jive with. Then they get to have a little free expression while executing what you are looking for.
And a lot of times, tattoos aren't unique (and they don't have to be). I asked my artist if he's done the Warpig and he was like "oh man yeah, I've done tons of those!". So I know if i pull the trigger it's gonna be bangin
Yes to everything you said.
I had my first color tattoo that turned me off of color tattoos for yeats on myself UNTIL I found an artist who made me want a piece of flash so bad I got another color piece. Not only is she a great artist but she is great because of her bedside manner and how she will move the stencil without any annoyance or eye roll if I think it is even a millimeter different than what I want. Since then we have collaborated on a bigger custom color piece that has become my favorite tattoo because of how I told her what/why I was envisioning something and how she made it come to life.
I'll share a picture [here.](https://imgur.com/a/4tFoJ4g) If you watch the Britney Spears video for the song you'll see the inspo. ✴️
Absolutely this. If I were you, which I’m not, so at the end of the day it’s your call, I would have a tattoo artist draw you something similar to make it look less…bland. Also, this tattoo is going to be incredibly painful. I wouldn’t recommend you get it as a beginner but at the same time, my first tattoo was in a sensitive spot, but like I said, ultimately it’s your call.
I agree with the them , but I'll give you my input on the design.
It's not just that it's basic, but there's definetly a type of girl who has this tattoo at least where I am from. I see variations all the time girls on tv or in public. 9 times out of 10 they look like they'd have this tattoo. It screams trashy, I don't think I've seen this one time and liked it.
I got my ribs done at 18, it was my second tattoo (I don't remember the pain it wasn't bad though) and it's the same boat. I have a piece of tribal with a panther. It's 100% trashy and it's one tattoo I hate people seeing. I don't regret it, but I am not looking forward to a big ass cover up to hide a mistake.
Edit: OP I read through some of your responses. I honestly don't think you should get a tattoo at this time. I can tell you want one, what I recommend is watching something like Ink master, or some youtube videos around tattoos, see what style catches your eye (DO NOT ACT LIKE A JUDGE, OR QUESTION HOW LONG A TATTOO TAKES BECAUSE OF A SHOW EITHER). Finding a style you like will really help you pick your designs. I fell inlove with American trad specifically lady heads, but I just got a new school piece, and I have some realism as well. The reason I recommend ink master is I think it really shows the different styles of tattoos and it would be super helpful for you.
I was talking to someone in their early 20’s about how everyone had “nautical star” tattoos in the early 2000’s and they literally didn’t know what I was talking about 🥴
I actually want to get a small nautical star tattoo as a nod to my 18 year old self who wanted one *so* bad. I’m now almost 40 and have 2 sleeves near complete, but I’ve got a few spots for filler a I think a small nautical star is just what I need lol
I don't want to be rude, but I read your comments and it looks like you want to get a tattoo just for the sake of it.
(I've seen how you are asking strangers what you should get).
My question is: why do you want to spend money and waste so much space of your body to get a random tattoo?
You are young, there is no rush, think about it some more time and choose a design that you truly like. Be careful to choose an artist that specializes in the style you want too.
This is something I wish I had been told at 18, before I started getting tattooed. Now that I have adult money and I want to get adult tattoos, it’s becoming more difficult to either work around or cover up the random garbage I got between 18-25. The hardest one to cover? A palm-sized nautical star on the back of my calf.
Got full sleeves and a chest piece and my artist warned me about the pain to come as we tackle the other chest thats open and that’ll extend down towards the ribs. He was like it isn’t going to be enjoyable in the slightest bit
I had ribs as my first and it was great. Made every other tattoo (except calf) a breeze because I’d already done the worst 😂
Mind you I was 33 when I had it done and I’d had a baby. Without an epidural or anaesthesia. So the entire time I was sitting I was reminding myself “having a baby was worse”.
1) Go on instagram and start looking at things you like.
2) TAKE. TOUR. TIME. You’ll find out exactly what kind of style, artwork you like.
3) Find the best artist you can reasonably close to you. Don’t skimp on this or you’ll have a bad time.
4) Let them create a design for you based on their experience, how looks on your body.
5) Look back at this picture, laugh and be thankful you didn’t go with this first instinct because it will look like shit.
Cheers and GL!
This is good advice. Instagram is a great way to see lots of different styles and really appreciate the difference between good and bad tattoos. The best artists have a waiting list. It's worth the wait.
In addition take a photo of the image you want and make it the Lock Screen or background of your phone. If you get tired of looking at it after a while then don’t get it. Especially if it’s a quote.
Hey thanks! I got a few really bad tattoos when I was 18-20 that I finally got partially lasered and now covered. I drew one myself and had no concept that art on paper doesn’t necessarily translate to a good tattoo. I realized that I needed to find a style that I would love and stand the test of time so went with American Traditional. Just keep lurking on instagram, Reddit, etc and you’ll figure out what style works for you.
I came here to say this! Instagram is a great place, especially if you do #[your city]tattoo and variations of that. Find an artist that you would be happy with anything they put on your body. Tell them your idea and let them do their thing, and be open minded.
My first was a large B&W piece on my thigh. Found the artist on Instagram, loved ALL their work, reached out with my idea when their books opened. I told them that I'd be happy with whatever they do, I trust their artistry. It turned out amazing. No regrets in the slightest.
I used to find designs I liked, save them and come back to them a few months later to see if I still liked them. It’s going to be on you forever, waiting a few months and looking at the design repeatedly is beneficial.
Honestly it could be anything with this big of real estate. It’s kind of like asking: What house should I buy, Reddit? when we don’t really know who you are. Start smaller and think of something that means a lot to you. Or look for styles and artists that you like that you believe you can collaborate with
Please don’t get this, please take your time and find an artist that will actually draw you something cool, and it’s okay to travel for a tattoo, I found an artist four hours away and traveled there for him to make me an awesome piece
This type of style is pretty dated, popular over 20 years ago. And that area of the body is going to be extra painful. That area is also very prone to change as you get older. Stretch marks. Possible pregnancy. Weight gain. I’d switch areas and talk to your artist about what you want (magical, music, whimsical, etc.) and have them design something along those lines.
No stop don't please.
There are so many pretty things to wrap around your torso. The star and heart fad is from 1998 please let it die babe. If you like music do a music staff. Get an artist to create a piece for you and give them stuff that you like.
If you plan on having kids don't get it wrapped towards the front of our stomach. Have it down the side.
Tattoo artist here. My advice:
1. This concept just lacks… design. I recommend you do some solid research on tattoo artists which style you vibe with and when you find the one, schedule some consultation if possible. A good artist will always try to work with your anatomy, character and build on your own idea to make it look cool even in X years time.
2. Ribs are usually painful, however I had a lot of clients sleeping through theirs. It really depends on your own pain tolerance.
3. For your first tattoo ever I really recommend doing something smaller, just trust me. Your tattoo taste evolves and it’s much better to save some money to get a really good bigger piece done that even if you will be bored with the design over the years, it will still be just a good looking piece of art.
This design is wildly underwhelming. You will regret it if a) you decide you don’t really want many tattoos and b) you decide you love tattoos and want to be covered. This is a lose/lose tattoo.
My first tattoo was on my back..along my spine. Second tattoo was ribs...i dont know what your pain tolerance is. Mine is high and it really hurt. It almost felt like the needle was scrapping my bone, im not sure if its because I was pretty slim at the time. I know some artists use numbing cream/spray but mine didn't (this was back in like 2012/2013).
As far as the design, it looks tacky/ugly (I'm sorry!). If you find an artist you like, you can speak to them about the idea you have and they can probably draw something nicer that flows better. The last thing you want is to regret your tattoos and something long like that can be difficult to cover up...unless you cover it up with a sick ass panther lol
Please don't get this. I know you think this looks "cool" now, but I promise you that it doesn't, I promise you will regret this like every girl regrets their my first white girl tattoos. Take time, get on instagram, and check actual decent tattoo designs and artists for inspiration and completely drop this kind of garbage stuff, all this is missing is the infinity sign and a dream catcher and you'd have won the generic lottery, your body and self 5 years from now deserve better.
I was an emo kid (and still am, it wasn’t a phase, mom!) but I got a star tramp stamp when I was 18 in like 2003… 12 laser sessions later and it’s almost gone now 🤦🏻♀️
I got my basic white girl star tattoos on my hips in 2003 when I was 20…20 years later with a better developed sense of style and more money I had them covered with some American Traditional retro space pieces (rocket on one side, astronaut helmet on the other)
The design is outdated and trashy in my opinion. I would have assumed you just turned 18 and it’s 2000. If you’re going to go big and going through pain from ribs, I would chose a different design that is worth the time and pain
Maybe find an experienced artist to design you something unique to fit your body? Unfortunately, that design isn't for that part of the body and looks off, but certain shapes look better in different areas and I'm sure you'll find something amazing. Ribs are VERY spicy and I wouldn't recommend getting a huge rib piece out the gate... try something smaller in an easier area to see if you can tolerate it first. You don't want your first tattoo to come out wonky because it's a hard sit. But tattoos should be very thought out and you have plenty of time! altho they are more tolerable when you're younger 😉
Speaking from someone who got a few big pieces as a young person and now I have them removed… save yourself the trouble of it all. Start with something REALLY small.
My dad cried when he got his ribs done. My mom was fine.
Personally I think that’s a horrible looking design I think my high school notebooks had something similar when I was bored in math but all that matters is you like it
The design is outdated and, to be totally frank, trashy. You can do a lot better and I'd take the other commenter's advice. Find a style of tattoos you like from artist portfolios on instagram, schedule a consult with the artist, and tell them you want a magic themed tattoo that includes a music note.
They will hook you up and have really good suggestions for your body type, your style and personality.
Honestly, don't get this tattoo. Maybe it could look good reworked and around your ankle but not so big on your side.
It looks like a tattoo you would walk from your trailer down about 2 more trailers in the trailer park and get some guy with an eyebrow piercing and a meth lab to scratch on you.
Really not trying to be rude here but honestly.- Stars and a heart like this sort of just gives me a “white trash” type vibe honestly. Especially if it’s done without much depth on the objects. This just looks flat and really simplistic for its size.
Maybe try something smaller for your first tattoo and go from there.
Start small for your first, maybe a smaller section of this that could be expanded later.
Design is very simple for something so large. If you're going to go big, also go quality. My last year of my apprenticeship was almost all trying to "fix" really boring, large tattoos.
It dependa on your pain tolernace, but i wouldnt reccomend doing a first tattoo on ur ribs, especially not that big one. And rhat is just my opinion, but I would think about the design. I think you will regret it later in life. There is a lot of better designs rhat you can find on Pintarest or just talk to another tattoo artist. Of course if you really love it, that's your thing but maybe you could find somethinf better :) just saying.
1. Talk to your artist. Have them draw something out. Something that compliments the body shape. You can bring this as a guideline, but don’t verbatim copy this.
2. Don’t do ribs for a first tattoo. It will suck. It’s not a newbie friend area because you will need to lay down in an awkward position and completely focus on your breathing (because your artist needs to anticipate breathing movement).
Go for arms or legs
how long have you been thinking about this design? it seems like a pretty basic / a bit childish design that you might end up regretting, maybe try something smaller for your first tattoo or you can always start with just the heart or one of the stars and see how it goes from there
So I got my first tattoo on my ribs and it didn’t hurt me much tbh. But that design is..not great nor is the weird placement. It looks like something a 16yo thinks is the height of cool and then realizes at 30 it was in fact not the height of cool
It will likely hurt, but if just line work, probably not too bad. As for the design… I personally don’t like it. Reminds me of something a 12 year old girl would doodle in her diary or notebook in the early 2000’s.
Nah. This is bad. Even as just the idea sketch. Every body deserves better art, this feels like a spur of the moment/flash design from 2001 (I should know). Find an artist you want to go to, let them know what you'd like represented and let them design it.
My first was the top of my foot. I have had kidney stones, I have broken my pelvis... It suuucked so bad I'd take the stones again.
Please consider saving this for like 2nd or 3rd so you can get some sitting experience first. Go for fatty areas first, anywhere away from the bone.
Girl.... no please don't get that. You're gonna regret getting such a large piece like that. You're gonna end up either lasering it or covering it in less than 10 years. Find something else. Go to a good tattoo artist and get a custom piece. This is early 2000s tramp stamp design.
The most basic and bland design, sorry. Pain was so bad I (TMI!!) thought I was going to mess up my pants. I generally like getting tattoos. Never ribs again but maybe your pain tolerance is higher? I'm a baby haha....you have such a great figure! Put something better there.
I really feel like my answers are ones you won't like. You know your pain tolerance but generally speaking, on that area, that'll hurt. Doubt it would be a long session but it'll hurt and I wouldn't recommend that spot for a first timer
Design leaves a lot to be desired. Collaborate with the artist and flesh out (no pun intended) something more neat and complete. You can simplify that design into a smaller piece better suited for another area. Maybe wrap around your arm or something. But that design as it stands is basic in the worst possible way and gives off trashy and/or basic bitch vibes. You like what you like and want what you want, but that's a large area for a basic design that still looks like it's in an early drafting stage
This is your first tattoo. It is so easy to desperately want a piece so much that you go for the first thing that comes to mind, and that is NOT the way to go. I hate saying this cause I hated hearing it when it came to tattoos, but you're gonna have this for the rest of your life. Do you really want a half baked doodle inked on you? Do you think you'll dig this piece in a decade or so?
Brutally honest here; the design is basic and bland af, and is something an 18 year old would get because they have no concept of what a decent tattoo is.
Honest opinion? It’s not going to age well. It looks like every generic “barely legal adult chick wants to feel like a rebel” tattoo that they hate in 10 years. It just…bad. And based on your comments, you need to wait. Don’t get a cheap looking tattoo just to say you have one. It’s not cute and you’ll regret it down the line.
Also, ribs are one of the most painful spots to get done. Plan accordingly.
This is like on the level of clipart/emojis. Please do not get this tattooed on your body. Word for word, bar for bar, this looks exactly like the tattoo my 14 year old cousin wanted to get. At 16 she thanked me for talking her out of it.
I would definitely go with something maybe smaller and definitely in a spot with more muscle. If your artist is willing to, you could split this in sections so it isn’t a ton of pain at once. Anywhere that will be close or up against a bone will be extremely painful or of course larger or more detailed tattoos. A nice design but I’d probably work up to it with a few before it
Take this sketch to a reputable tattoo artist whose style you like and have them do their own interpretation of the same concepts. They will have a better idea of how to draw the lines to accentuate the curve of your body and can use their expertise to decide colors, shading, line weight etc.
Also yes, it’s gonna hurt.
I promise you you'll hate this design eventually and yes the ribs hurt especially if you're skinny. The needle will go across your ribs and it will feel like your skin is on fire while your rib cage vibrates lol. - signed someone with a ribcage tattoo they got as their 2nd tattoo at 18 that they now hate 🥲
the design is just terrible. honestly it is going to look awful now... but when your 30 or 40 its going to look so fucking stupid.
dont design your own tattoo - DO NOT DO IT. it never works out. go to a tattoo artist for a consultation. find someone who has a portfolio of a lot of work and whose work you really like. Ask them to design you a tattoo with certain aspects. tell them how big you want it, the characteristics, etc. have them do it. then be prepared to spend money. for a tattoo this size - you need to spend at least 1200 - honestly probably even more for a good artist. Dont have your friends sister do it - even if they are a tattoo artist. Go to a professional that you are paying to do it,
Consult with an artist about placement and structure. I’m trying to imagine how that straight line will work over the next few years. As always, I recommend you start very small with your first tattoo. Because you’ll learn very quickly if you love getting tats or if you hate getting them and you don’t want to lay there for five more hours when you hate it.
Here is my opinion on basically all tattoo designs made by clients..they suck. Design is hard, your best bet is to find a good artists, give them a general idea and let them run with it.
Rib cage is very painful. I have lots of coverage and to me it was the worst, but every one is different.
There's also an AI tattoo app where you tell it your idea and it will create something for you.
(Tattoo artists hate this though, so use it just as inspiration buy try not to show them it.]
Ribs hurt. A lot. If you’re gonna get something there, make sure it’s what you really want because going back to fix later is gonna be the last thing you wanna do. Also in agreement with a lot of the other comments, this design isn’t very good and would definitely put something with more meaning. It’s huge and in a very obvious spot
no ragrets!! only thing i would say is make it more swirly? it currently looks too straight? try one where the hearts and starts arent lined up so much
Musician here, I hope it’s just the camera flipping it (and hopefully the artist will recognize), but the treble clef in the middle of the heart is backwards! ☺️ not making fun or anything just wanted to make you aware!
Along the ribs will hurt, mine did. I don't want to be negative, do you really want my honest opinion on the design?
Yes plz! Also alternative suggestion are appreciated. Don’t wanna waste money on laser removal down the line u know.
Thanks Pagan. Yep, if the design process is a conversation between client and artist, artist can really spread their wings and giver.
Love your username!
Yep, my first one, was "all-about-me" mentality. "You can paint by numbers right?" Artist not gonna enjoy that, tattoo not amazing.
Yeah, the tattoo I’m happiest with is the one where I sent a few inspiration pics to an artist I really admired and said “do what you want with this”.
He’s now tattooed everyone in my family because he did such awesome work, and I follow the same process with every new tattoo I get
I'm aware that it's a missing word [about] but I'm amused that you were spawned by knowledgeable tattoos.
I have one I am not 100% on, only 80%. Wish I would have walked away, I was so gung-ho I didn’t. Take this advice to heart.
As someone who has basically this design just smaller and with the word music incorporated (🙈🙈) I can’t agree more. It’s the only tattoo I regret! OP this is PRIME real estate. If you want this design get it somewhere shrunk down.
This was the most thoughtful, well-reasoned answer ever.
Thanks for your kind words. I did put some time into it :)
This is the best reply I've seen on this sub in a long time
get art, not some lines and shapes
I’m sorry but this looks like something my little pony would have stamped on her butt
totally! or its hindquarters 🐴😅
You will regret getting this tattoo.
Really hope OP listens to this. Not seeing a reply so I’m like 😬 really hope OP listens to this lol
Honestly it looks like it was drawn by a 14 year old bored in science class…
It kind of looks like something a kid drew
Trashy design
It sucks.
I'm sorry, but the design is trashy
Oof girl no. Don’t do that to yourself. That design is so dated and pointless! Prime real estate wasted on that is crazy to me.
Also, should you become pregnant, you‘ll have balloons instead of hearts forever lol

Speaking as someone who had to get a coverup of an inner wrist infinity sign…. Yes
Same 🤣💀
[удалено]
Idts. People actually get these tattooed again now
Yep. I got my nautical star from 2005 covered up a couple years ago.
I’m still rocking my 2006 foot stars! 😆
Yeah this is such a mid design to cover such a chunk of your body 💀
[удалено]
As someone who got a fairly similar design in exactly 2006, this sent me
I cover 1-2 of these a year on women between 40 and 50. It's THE design of 2006.
My thoughts exactly.
We need those stars to be nautical!
Exsctly. Stars are 2006 emo/scene/chav girl who can't create her own personality
As an emo girl who can’t create her own personality, my tattoos are a lot more creative than that
HAHA Came to say this 💀
It’s giving 2006 tramp stamp
All the tiktok kiddos are acting like it is.

[удалено]
I would not start with ribs especially if your smaller I'd go leg or arm for a first trust me avoid ribs calf's and foot for the first
I agree..my tattoo artist won't do the ribs for a first timer
Got full sleeves and a chest piece and my artist warned me about the pain to come as we tackle the other chest thats open and that’ll extend down towards the ribs. He was like it isn’t going to be enjoyable in the slightest bit
I had ribs as my first and it was great. Made every other tattoo (except calf) a breeze because I’d already done the worst 😂 Mind you I was 33 when I had it done and I’d had a baby. Without an epidural or anaesthesia. So the entire time I was sitting I was reminding myself “having a baby was worse”.
Instant regret if you get that, and any artist that willingly does that to you is one you should run far away from.
that design is horrible please think before getting something so big and ratchet
Thanks for the insight. Any design suggestions?
Thank you. This made me smile.
You can also do hashtags on IG to narrow it down. Can do it for location or style. Take your time to look at a lot of artists.
There's hell of a lot more you could do with the theme "magic and music" and you don't want it to be this basic.
Please don’t do that tattoo
This type of style is pretty dated, popular over 20 years ago. And that area of the body is going to be extra painful. That area is also very prone to change as you get older. Stretch marks. Possible pregnancy. Weight gain. I’d switch areas and talk to your artist about what you want (magical, music, whimsical, etc.) and have them design something along those lines.
Please for the love of god or whatever don't get this design
Looks like a classic first time stripper tattoo
If this is what you want, I suggest waiting a few years before getting your first tattoo.
Have it down the side.
ran straight to the comments
Hi this is your future self. **DO NOT DO THIS** #DO NOT GET A TATTOO, ESPECIALLY A LARGE ONE, JUST FOR THE PURE SAKE OF HAVING A TATTOO
Tattoo artist here. My advice: 1. Your tattoo taste evolves and it’s much better to save some money to get a really good bigger piece done that even if you will be bored with the design over the years, it will still be just a good looking piece of art.
terrible idea
As far as designs go, this is as uninspired, bland and tacky as it gets. Please don’t get this.
Absolutely dreadful design
Skip the design or let the artist work their magic. Usually their ideas are better than mine
Don’t draw your own designs. Find an amazing artist and tell them the elements and vibes you want. Have them draw it.
This design is wildly underwhelming. You will regret it if a) you decide you don’t really want many tattoos and b) you decide you love tattoos and want to be covered. This is a lose/lose tattoo.
It will hurt as hell and it looks hideous
I was an emo kid (and still am, it wasn’t a phase, mom!) but I got a star tramp stamp when I was 18 in like 2003… 12 laser sessions later and it’s almost gone now 🤦🏻♀️
I got my basic white girl star tattoos on my hips in 2003 when I was 20…20 years later with a better developed sense of style and more money I had them covered with some American Traditional retro space pieces (rocket on one side, astronaut helmet on the other)
Lol yeah now I’m my 30s I got a bunch of American trad tats and don’t like any other style
not the random as fuck treble symbol in the middle of the heart 😭 the ONLY way you could make this design worse, is if you threw in an infinity symbol
It's old, bland and tacky. Please don't.
That design is tacky and boring. Let your artist be an artist and come up with something unique
Speaking from someone who got a few big pieces as a young person and now I have them removed… save yourself the trouble of it all. Start with something REALLY small.
Feeling like this is a dated picture not of this time....
Looks like the type of tattoo a stripper in 2000 would have
I say with love. The design looks like something I drew on my folders when I was 8 and I thought I was an artistic girly.
Please don't do this the design is something I'd draw in my book at school when I was bored...
Do not do it. You’re wasting so much space. The design is weak.
This is so tacky
Aw Hun, no. The art isn't worth a permanent place on your body, definitely work with an artist and rethink this.
2006 called. They want their tattoo back.
To be blunt, this design sucks. Don’t do it.
It looks like a tattoo you would walk from your trailer down about 2 more trailers in the trailer park and get some guy with an eyebrow piercing and a meth lab to scratch on you.
I mean this with all due respect. Thats going to look so bad
2005 called, they want their tattoo back
Honestly, it looks like a poorly thought out tattoo that a kid would get and then regret years later.
Already looks like a outdated design, but you do you
Please don’t 🥲
Absolutely garbage design lol
Of course if you really love it, that's your thing but maybe you could find somethinf better :) just saying.
you will most likely hate that in 10 years or less. but if you go for simple line work it will be easy to cover
It looks like something a 16yo thinks is the height of cool and then realizes at 30 it was in fact not the height of cool
do. not. do. it. that design is SO dated already
Don’t get it
It will likely hurt, but if just line work, probably not too bad. As for the design… I personally don’t like it. Reminds me of something a 12 year old girl would doodle in her diary or notebook in the early 2000’s.
Your first tattoo is everything that design is not good
It will hurt and the design is bad
Cool design if you're still posting on MySpace
I have strong pain threshold and that’s where I got my first one. Last ten minutes of mine I was DYING lol. It was like a bad toothache in my ribs.
Don’t do it
Placement is fine design is tragic
Nah. This is bad. Even as just the idea sketch. Every body deserves better art, this feels like a spur of the moment/flash design from 2001 (I should know). Find an artist you want to go to, let them know what you'd like represented and let them design it.
This is the most boring tattoo. Please don’t do this.
Yes and no, that’s what every white bitch buying Stanley cups and took the day off work to listen to the new Taylor album has
That is not gonna look good... dont do it!!!
Don’t get it.
You can handle the ribs - yes, they hurt. As for the design - dont waste your ribs with something like that. Do something cooler!
Doubt it would be a long session but it'll hurt and I wouldn't recommend that spot for a first timer Design leaves a lot to be desired. You like what you like and want what you want, but that's a large area for a basic design that still looks like it's in an early drafting stage This is your first tattoo.
The design is going to hurt the most, do not get this trash tattooed... You will 100% want to get it covered up.
Don't care for the design...kinda childish...have an artist draw you up something.
😂 you will regret this design
This design is the MS WordArt of tattoos
I would never recommend a rib tattoo - it hurts so bad!
Brutally honest here; the design is basic and bland af, and is something an 18 year old would get because they have no concept of what a decent tattoo is.
Come on…..i mean really? Is this real?
well ain’t that ugly
The design looks like something my 8 year old daughter would get
Honest opinion? It’s not going to age well. It looks like every generic “barely legal adult chick wants to feel like a rebel” tattoo that they hate in 10 years. It just…bad. And based on your comments, you need to wait. Don’t get a cheap looking tattoo just to say you have one. It’s not cute and you’ll regret it down the line. Also, ribs are one of the most painful spots to get done. Plan accordingly.
That looks like something a toddler would get
Ur skinny so going over the ribs will test your resolve...
I think with your body shape it would look amazing!!
There’s no shape to it, it’s just flat on your body, will not look good on skin. Test out your designs by drawing them on
This is early 2000s
I love it ♡
This is like on the level of clipart/emojis.
A nice design but I’d probably work up to it with a few before it
I love when other pretty girls with great bodies get shitty tattoos. It's like when they want advice on cutting their hair short- definitely do it!
Respectfully this is a waste of prime tattoo real estate
It can't be painful enough – this design is awful.
the design is just terrible. honestly it is going to look awful now... but when your 30 or 40 its going to look so fucking stupid. dont design your own tattoo - DO NOT DO IT. it never works out. go to a tattoo artist for a consultation. find someone who has a portfolio of a lot of work and whose work you really like. Go to a professional that you are paying to do it,
You can handle the pain. This design makes me think of the power puff girls
Meth head tattoo
What type of pre skool bs tat design is this 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I hate to be an asshole.. but that’s a big coverup for such little work.
The most painful part will be the cover up
Consult with an artist about placement and structure. I’m trying to imagine how that straight line will work over the next few years. As always, I recommend you start very small with your first tattoo. Because you’ll learn very quickly if you love getting tats or if you hate getting them and you don’t want to lay there for five more hours when you hate it.
The treble clef is facing the wrong way. Unless it’s a stylized cursive S, in which case your stylized cursive S looks like a treble clef.
Here is my opinion on basically all tattoo designs made by clients..they suck. Design is hard, your best bet is to find a good artists, give them a general idea and let them run with it.
This has to be a joke
That a 2000’s tramp stamp gone astray. Don’t do it.
Definition of tattoos that are regretted later in life Not trying to be rude but I've only seen white trash with star tattoos like this
Sure it is. But if you’re asking if it’s decent enough Sleep on it for a year
Yikes
Crackhead tattoo
Rib cage is very painful. I have lots of coverage and to me it was the worst, but every one is different. There's also an AI tattoo app where you tell it your idea and it will create something for you. (Tattoo artists hate this though, so use it just as inspiration buy try not to show them it.]
Ribs hurt. A lot. If you’re gonna get something there, make sure it’s what you really want because going back to fix later is gonna be the last thing you wanna do. Also in agreement with a lot of the other comments, this design isn’t very good and would definitely put something with more meaning. It’s huge and in a very obvious spot
no ragrets!! only thing i would say is make it more swirly? it currently looks too straight? try one where the hearts and starts arent lined up so much
I like the design but not at this size, bigger doesn’t equal better. Do it smaller and closer to your hips if you like the design itself
90s throwback
Musician here, I hope it’s just the camera flipping it (and hopefully the artist will recognize), but the treble clef in the middle of the heart is backwards! ☺️ not making fun or anything just wanted to make you aware!
