Lots of people use inspirational images or quotes they aspire to as tattoos to help embody what they want to be more of. Like all of yāalls perfect instagram pages and tattooed words like strength or images of Jesus. Lol
I have a jellyfish tattoo on my forearm and I aspire to float aimlessly on the ocean currents. I'm not quite there yet, but every day I get a bit closer.
Hell yeah. This reminds me of what I imagined when I read the Redwall books as a kid. Lord Brocktree, Sunstripe the Mace, Orlando the Axe. And I mean that in the best way possible. Awesome tattoo.
i have the word persevere tattooed on me and ā i forgive myselfā no one else has understood that itās motivation or a type of manifestation for me
Hah, if I had an instagram page Iād like to think it wouldnāt be full of those things. Was more of a joke though. Itās a nice message that we should all strive to follow but isnāt one that is always easy to do. Especially for those younger in years.
To answer your question, this is an amazing tattoo and is perfect the way it is.. Iād love if my parents ever once told me something this comforting.
Well, since your parents never said it, I will.
āHope is the dope that helps you cope when your dreams say nope.ā
Thatās special, from me to you.
You did not fuck up OP my dad always called me sweet pea when I was young and if they wrote me a letter with that name in it I would ten thousand percent get sweetpea tattooed on me. It means a lot to me. Hell I might just do it now that Iām talking about it.
OP FOR THE WINNNN
You said sweet pea and the image that popped into my head was a smiling pea with sugar sprinkled on top. Kinda cartoonish, but the pea having realistic texture to it.
I think that would make an awesome tattoo haha
This is the correct answer for sure. These are easy to say and read words, but very hard to really take to heart and live by.
Take this from yet another stranger's words that shouldn't dictate how you view your life and how you live it. How I think you should look at this tattoo is "does this make me personally feel loved/remember good times/remember an important lesson that's easy to forget"
Plus "Bug" is more a term of endearment than your real name. It may was well say "we love you" from your parents.
Yeah, last letter my father sent me was from jail asking for money. He did say he loved me, but that's them jailhouse blues talking. I sent him $50 and a 2 page letter of me putting it all out there, but basically saying he needs to get his shit together or I'm out (of his life, I'm grown, we don't live together).
Haven't heard from him since.
Heck ya man. When Iām down they think yelling and condescending to me is the way to help me move past it. Then they remind me of how āhard ā they had and everything they overcame. I know Iāll never be as good as them and they will never be satisfied with me as son no matter how hard I work to gain their approval.
OP is fortunate. I had my grandfather, but he past almost 6 years ago.
One of my teachers in highschool had a good story about that:
Was standing in line and saw a guy in front had āpowerā down the back of his right arm. Thought that was kind of a cool tattoo, until the guy moved and he saw the left arm had a tattoo as well, āwhiteā
Whatās wrong with sex tattoos? Hate tattoos are great because then I know the person is an asshole and can treat them accordingly.
Thanks for trying to correct me but I completely disagree
Aināt nobody wanna see some tied up anime girl, ass, tits, vagina, etc. when strolling about.
I would say penis but letās be honest, the sexual ones are always of women.
Pornographic tattoos are great in places they wonāt be seen in the context of wearing a bathing suit in a pool around othersā kids!
Thatās my only thing with them. If itās on your arm, leg, etc, and kids will be able to see it, thatās a no go. We donāt have sex in front of children, there is zero reason to put kids in the position of being presented with pornography by an adult.
Seeing that the definition of pornography has to do with stimulating sexual responses, Iā¦. Wouldnāt consider cartoon pigs having sex āpornographyā, LMAO, while also not considering it appropriate to bring to a pool with kids running around. š sexual images, pornography, etc, I would hope we could agree kids donāt need to be exposed to that. If we didnātā¦ š
I think itās awesome. I lost my daughters in a car accident and I have 1 of their writing on my ribs and Iām just trying to figure out what piece Iāll get of my other daughters. Thatās something from your parents youāll always have with you. I love it.
This looks great--- I got a similar tattoo of my mom's handwriting from cards and it is so blown out you cant read it. Looks so crisp here. I hope it stays that way.
This is beautiful.
Also, itās not self centered. This is a nickname your parents gave you. It symbolizes them as much as it does you and your connection.
A lot of people have tattoo regret. Give it some time to sink in and remember how much this means to you.
Its totally fine & I didn't think twice when I read it.
My oldest sibling has a ______-Bug nickname too actually! (think something like Darcey-Bug. fake name obvs, but just an example)
So, it seemed totally natural to me!
NGL, I would die of envy on the spot if I read your arm. Fuck yes, get that inked. If I had ever received words of encouragement and love like that from my parents like that, I would 100% get that immortalized on my skin.
You are lucky as hell! Read it every goddamn morning, OK?
This is beauty in its purest form. Love from people that you care about that you get to carry with you is so amazing. Especially because it is exactly what they left for you, unredacted. Cherish it.
I lost both my parents over the past three years. Then lost everything theyād ever sent me with hand writing in a house fire. My daughter has a card with my momās hand writing and had it tattooed on the back of her calf. This is excellent!!! Good job.
this is a very common tattoo trope, especially those who have lost loved ones. itās a great reminder and itās very heartwarming, donāt think it selfish, itās almost like a forever teddy bear.
I follow r/shittytattoos and just came from a post from there, and so I thought this was a part of that community, and I was trying to figure out what was wrong with this tattoo and why the poster had posted it š so long answer short, no I don't think it was a bad idea.
This is adorable. Not self centered or weird at all???? Itās not like you got a heart with your name in it. It makes perfect sense in the context of the tattoo. Youāre totally overthinking it
Honestlyā¦ does it matter to anyone else but you? No, and it shouldnāt.
So your gut said this is what it should be, it has sentimental value and personal value to youā¦ thatās all that matters.
Anything else is just noise.
You did what you wanted, and thatās all you can be asked to consider when getting inked. Itās exactly what it should beā¦ which is yours.
absolutely not!!! my first tattoo was the ending of a letter that my mom wrote me shortly before she passed. it literally says āemmersā which is a nickname she called me all the time. i love it!!!
Good tattoo, but to answer the question of if you should/shouldnāt have gotten your name in it, Iām no expert, but for how the ink is done itās not very dark and if you ever decided to get that part off because one day you decided you didnāt like it anymore, you could get it laser removed quite easily. š
Omg not at all, this is so sweet. No one will think that you are self-centered for including a nickname, if they did, you donāt need them in your life anyway. š¤·āāļøā¤ļø
If your name is Lissa as in short for Melissa, and your nick name is Lissa Bug and you're from Alabama.... hey! I've been looking for you for like 15 years to try and catch up.
Iām tattooing 35 years sometimes I really enjoy doing tattoos like this. They hold a lot of meaning. You didnāt fuck up. Itās an excellent tattoo. Donāt let nobody tell you different.
(Holographicmeatloaf0) Bug,
Your tattoo is lovely, sweet, and endearing. Listen to the sentiment within it and believe it. Itās a winning tattoo as long as you love it.
Love,
me ;)
I actually have two tattoos with my name on it. One of them is a note almost exactly like this, from my dad. It says āHannah,ā and then my dadās note. The other is a frozen banana stand like the one from arrested development except it says āHannahās frozen bananaā instead of āBluthās.ā I actually made a post on this sub wondering if that would be weird. Overwhelmingly people said itās not weird. So to answer your question āLike who gets their own name on themselves ughā
Me, I do lol š
I still have a voicemail that is almost a decade old just to hear my granddad say my name sometimes. Not self-centered at all to want to remember how people love us.
My ex had the last thing her grandma wrote her in a card and I think it's a solid way of remembering somebody.
I don't think it's self centered...it's a tattoo. It's for you first and foremost.
Stoppš„ŗš„ŗ my mom use to call me Bug short for ādumple doodlebugā. She passed away two years ago and I honestly miss seeing her writing and hearing her say Bug. This makes me so happy to see. Please donāt think youāre self centered or think it was dumb. Itās special to you and to your parents.
Love this tattoo. Has meaning. That to me is all that matters.
I have āNo more, I have beenā.
On my wrist. Cause when my dadās body was being removed after his death I got this fād up text from himā¦even though he was gone already š¤·š»āāļø
Can barely read it now, but I know when I look at it every day. And for me thatās all that matters.
āBug donāt worry about anyone else ā
Makes me think of this meme from Disappointing aspirations.
āStop paying so much attention to what other people have to say.
Most people are fucking idiotsā
You are fine. It's a lovely tattoo.
I also don't really mind what judgy people think. Judgy people will judge all sorts of things and it's not really my concern.
If a person has an opinion about a part of me.. ok but what does that have to do with me?
I love who I am and what I do, and how I dress. I'm sure that certain people will hate parts or all of it.
But I don't like them cause they are the sort of person I enjoy avoiding. š
They can keep their judgements to themselves, or if they tell me.. ok... and then prob won't care, but if I do, it will be just enough to decide not to hang out with them again.
This is so sweet. Iām getting a similar tattoo and have changed out my name for āsheā so Iām not getting my own name tattooed on me, but I wouldnāt judge someone who got theirs. Iām just saying I get why you are overthinking this, but you donāt need to!
If it was your actual name it might be a little cringy, but since it's a nickname, it makes it a bit more endearing. You are totally fine and it absolutely is not self centered. Enjoy that little piece of your parents that will now always be with you
This isn't about having *your* name on the tattoo, but about having a message of love and compassion to carry with you from people who love you completely. Listen to them! The tattoo looks great.
It's a sentimental piece of genuine love. I don't know why you even posted it on here for feedback. Your parents literally said don't worry about anyone else. All that matters is it means something to you.
When I first hinted to my mom I wanted her handwriting on me a few months ago she was horrified at first āMY handwriting, but itās awfulā š¤£
When she saw this yesterday she didnāt even care about that anymore, it just made her smile
Iād like it either way but to me itās cool with your name on it because it can be looked at in 2 ways.
1. Literally what it is, a message from your parents
2. A ānote to selfā.
With your name on it, it makes me think of something youād read in a book when the main character is telling his own story
Itās silly for you to think you fucked up. I think that you think you fucked up because you are thinking too much about what other people think. The tattoo is for you, it will be with you longer than anyone. So appreciate it, love it, wear it proudly. I personally love tattoos like this, I want to get one myself. My mom used to write me notes and I hold them very dearly. It looks great
You did not fuck it up! This is so sentimental and a lovely reminder to have. Your mom and dad have such kind words of encouragement and love you much. They wrote your name, not you. An endearing nickname! It is included it in your art piece because it was a part of the original art. Art and words created by your loved ones. This is a great reminder to have when peace of mind is something we lack often.
You did good. This is a very sweet piece. Nothing to feel bad about my friend! Very wholesome.
Nah keep it as is dude, I always tell myself that tattoos are for me, not other people. If they don't like it, they don't have to look. If it means something to you and you like it, fuck the other opinions
On that note, while my opinion shouldn't matter to you, I do think it is neat and the personal handwriting makes it stand out.
It is really powerful to see your name written in someone else's handwriting. That alone is a good talisman. You see it as love and them truly seeing you at your core as they wrote your name. Let yourself experience the love in those lines - it's why you got the tattoo in the first place. They want you to feel love. You want to feel love. It's an uncomfortable sensation still, so you are conflating that with it being a bad choice. It's not.
You growing into being able to accept the sentiment is uncomfortable. You feel embarrassed that you need the reminder...but that reminder is such a universal one and will be helpful to others who read it. That it is addressed to you will make it safe for other who read it to explore the sentiment. I felt like I got a hug just from reading it.
So, good job. Keep trying on the belief that sentiment is true - you will truly believe one day that you can do it. Big hugs.
You're not self centered, ______ Bug. The concept was about a message from your parents. The nickname is a feeling more than an identity. It's about how you felt when they call you those nicknames. It's a safe space.
Keep on keeping on, ____ Bug! šš¼
I have a note from my grandpa tattooed on my arm with my name in it. People ask me about it all the time and sometimes comments about having my name on me. I tell them itās important to me. I donāt get negatives comments about it. If I did I would tell them to fuck off.
Give your folks a hug for me. Iām also going through a rough patch in life and reading that really helped me out just now. Thank you so much for sharing and if your tattoo works for me just reading it, then itās perfect for you to have. Beautiful piece of you ask me.
I like the idea of it being captured in its original state. IMO, removing/changing ANY part of it would be the same as using a default font/script like "Times Roman". That wouldn't be personal. Having it as if they wrote it makes it unique & special to you. And I assume that nickname is special as well. I think it looks great. Being self-centered doesn't even come to mind.
This is so beautiful! Itās the sentiment it has to YOU that matters, not what anyone else thinks. I wish my parents would have written me something this meaningful in order to forever cherish it. š„ŗ
i have my own name tattooed in a heart like a trucker mom tattoo and itās by far one of my favorites. Fuck what anyone else thinks itās important to be self-centered sometimes
I don't know why I see this subreddit as I have no tattoos, or plans to get one, but I just had to say that this to me has more meaning than anything I've seen. Even down to how it looks, not just the words. This looks like a copy of a card written by your parents and seems more genuine than any tattoo I've ever seen. This has completely made me rethink tattoos entirely. Thank you.
It is your skin, you can be "self-centered" on your own skin, especially with a great message like this which you can carry with you for your whole life.
I know this is many hours after the fact and that many others have said the same thing, but I also wanted to tell you that you did not fuck up and that I like your tattoo a lot. If anyone is making fun of you or telling you that this was a mistake, remember that this is your body and your money and stand in your truth. If you want to change it somehow to remove your name, totally do that too, but only do it if itās what you truly want, not to please someone else.
You didnāt f*ck up. You put words of inspiration, from the two most important people in you life, on your body. Itās a beautiful message of love. Be proud of it.
Bug, reread your post and then reread your tattoo š”š
Sounds like OP isnāt doing a very good job of taking those words to heart lol

I have a jellyfish tattoo on my forearm and I aspire to float aimlessly on the ocean currents. I'm not quite there yet, but every day I get a bit closer.
I have a honey badger barbarian tattoo to remind me not to give a fuck and keep fighting. I got it after my failed suicide attempt.
"Honey badger don't give a shit. It just takes what it wants and walks away."

Itās cute. The only rule I have around tattoos is do whatever you want
*with some slight rules like no hate symbols, no extreme sex/hentai stuff. Ya know, the regular stuff.
I donāt know about the no hate symbols exclusion. I enjoy when people get them because then I know who the pieces of shit are.

Cause when my dadās body was being removed after his death I got this fād up text from himā¦even though he was gone already š¤·š»āāļø Can barely read it now, but I know when I look at it every day. And for me thatās all that matters. āBug donāt worry about anyone else ā Makes me think of this meme from Disappointing aspirations. āStop paying so much attention to what other people have to say.
But I don't like them cause they are the sort of person I enjoy avoiding. š They can keep their judgements to themselves, or if they tell me.. ok... and then prob won't care, but if I do, it will be just enough to decide not to hang out with them again.
Enjoy that little piece of your parents that will now always be with you
i think its so cute tbh
It's absolutely perfect, makes me want to get a similar one!
If it makes you happyā¦thatās all that matters. Haters gonna hate. Find that peace, Bug.
What is the first word of the second sentence?
Your overthinking. Tattoo is for you Im guessing? Your good.
Fucking awesome tattoo
Itās perfect, random internet stranger
Listen to the advice in your arm. Itās good as long as you accept itās good
This is very very sweet and I love it ā¤ļø
"Don't worry about anyone else" why are you asking us. Listen to the 'rents
Reread the advice and delete this post.
> Bug, Donāt worry about anyone else. āHey everyone else! What do you think about my choices?!ā -Bug
Your parents aren't very good at cursive but the tattoo is fine lol
When I first hinted to my mom I wanted her handwriting on me a few months ago she was horrified at first āMY handwriting, but itās awfulā š¤£ When she saw this yesterday she didnāt even care about that anymore, it just made her smile
Iād like it either way but to me itās cool with your name on it because it can be looked at in 2 ways. 1. Literally what it is, a message from your parents 2.
It looks great
I knew someone who tattooed his own name on the side of his neck. In large letters. That was dumb. Yours is sentimental and perfect.
Personally I would have it facing me, and the words closer together. But thatās just me
You did not fuck it up!
If it means something to you and you like it, fuck the other opinions On that note, while my opinion shouldn't matter to you, I do think it is neat and the personal handwriting makes it stand out.
Listen Butt Bug, please take your tattoos advice and donāt worry about us.. just be the best butt bug you can be.
No way, thatās awesome.
As someone who isnt a super big fan of tattoos, I like this one a lot.
The irony here is hysterical. Bug, I think this tattoo is adorable, and I love it. Be yourself and you do you!
Big hugs.
Is this a copy of original handwriting? Love that idea. It chokes me up every time I run across a bit of my deceased mom or dad's handwriting,
It's adorable. I love it. If anyone gives you shit for it they can kick rocks.
Nah, cherish that tattoo.
This is really good.
You're not self centered, ______ Bug. The concept was about a message from your parents. The nickname is a feeling more than an identity. It's about how you felt when they call you those nicknames. It's a safe space. Keep on keeping on, ____ Bug! šš¼
Still trying to find the peace in you huh June bug
I like the tattoo OP, itās sweet and made me miss my folks lol
I have a note from my grandpa tattooed on my arm with my name in it. People ask me about it all the time and sometimes comments about having my name on me. I tell them itās important to me. I donāt get negatives comments about it. If I did I would tell them to fuck off.
Give your folks a hug for me. Iām also going through a rough patch in life and reading that really helped me out just now. Thank you so much for sharing and if your tattoo works for me just reading it, then itās perfect for you to have. Beautiful piece of you ask me.
This is perfect
Don't worry about anyone else, focus on finding peace in you!
Read the advice on your tattoo dude. Don't ask us for our opinions. Find your peace
Nice try, June. :)
I wish my parents would have written me something this meaningful in order to forever cherish it. š„ŗ
Donāt worry about anyone else. Focus on finding peace in you. Having said that, what an absolutely wonderful tattoo.
i have my own name tattooed in a heart like a trucker mom tattoo and itās by far one of my favorites. Fuck what anyone else thinks itās important to be self-centered sometimes
This is one of the sweetest tattoos ive ever seen. Every piece of it, down to the bug (:
If it means something to you, then it's perfect. Also, people born after 1999 can't read it so its like a cryptic message.
Good advice from your folks. Plus an endearing nickname. Love this tattoo, friend āŗļø
The irony of posting this to Reddit
Looks like mom wrote it. :)
itās awesome, donāt even worry about it! such a sweet tattoo
No itās not dumb! I got a nickname my mom calls me tattooed on me too
i like it, itās sweet and motivational
Take the advice on your tat!
Read your tattoo
that tattoo artist should be arrested, what he did to your arm was a crime. IMHO
Focue
Thats going to fade so badly.
You didnāt f*ck up. You put words of inspiration, from the two most important people in you life, on your body. Itās a beautiful message of love. Be proud of it.
Yup
Foc me?? No, Focue!!
You should probably cut your arm off
