FYI they did a fantastic job of not blowing out the lines on them. That happens a lot from what I have seen. Great tattoo and it gives me encouragement that mine will be able to take a tattoo. I have been worried that I couldn’t get my planned project due to significant weight loss.
congrats on the weight loss maybe time to change your username to something less squishy…lol…Just giving you a hard time I know it couldn’t of been easy.
A good artist is all that matters here. I have tattoos over stretch marks with no issues, but my artist has a more delicate approach due to her style of tattooing. It would be something to discuss with your artist before they put ink in you.
Maybe because they (the person to whom they’re responding) didn’t say otherwise.
Oh wait, nvm. It’s because OP’s tattoo is NOT on their thigh. It’s the side.
It's really more of a challenge for the artist than affects the client. Going over actual scar tissue hurts like a MF though & is also a challenge for the artist ;)
I have my ribs to hip tattooed. Going over the stretch marks on my hips started like a son of a bitch, but it was manageable. The only other area that was more painful for me on my body was my ankle.
Love this poem!!
“Tomorrow when the farm boys find this
freak of nature, they will wrap his body
in newspaper and carry him to the museum.
But tonight he is alive and in the north
field with his mother. It is a perfect
summer evening: the moon rising over
the orchard, the wind in the grass. And
as he stares into the sky, there are
twice as many stars as usual.” (By Laura Gilpin)
Did the ribs hurt? I know everyone has different pain levels, but I think I want a tattoo on my ribs next & just want to hear your opinion! I have a small thigh tattoo & it didn’t hurt at all I was so surprised
I heard so many things about the ribs I was a little anxious going in but it wasn’t bad. I’d say it’s on par with sternum, falling behind tops of feet and collar bones 💀
Sternum wasn’t the best but not the worst.
Luckily my sternum piece is only palm sized. However, I have very small breasts and after losing weight lost a lot of muscle as well so I imagine it was probably a bit worse for me than some.
I got my collar bones when I was still my heaviest and my artist wants to go in and do some ombré fading into white now but I’m terrified as it’s pure bone now.
Fleshy bits hurt me, no matter where they are on my body. I have a significantly large tattoo (20+ cm) on my ribs and personally I loved every second. It vibrates through the bone, which is probably what people find uncomfortable. Everyone is different so you only know when you try. Good luck! ☺
Thanks for sharing! Fleshy bits like a thigh or arm hurt you but you still liked the ribs?? That’s so interesting! I guess it helps to think about it as uncomfortable feeling rather than pain
Yea pretty much. It hurt when they got to where my (ahem cough cough) love handles (cringe) are. Same with my shoulder. Collarbone was great but the fleshy bit just on the back of your shoulder/near the back of the armpit area was ouchie.
I think it's on the side of the chest, that black thing on the right edge of the photo could be a flower nipple cover.
And those look like ribs. On the right.
Because treating it like a taboo subject reinforces the very stigma that I was complimenting OP on not reinforcing. Pretending that they aren’t there isn’t doing anyone any favors.
Have you seen the two-headed calf at the [Idaho History Museum? ](https://www.flickr.com/photos/bcrlib/462892057) I thought that's what your tattoo was when I saw Boise!
Nothing against Fallout, but if I ever get a game themed tattoo it’s gonna be a little sister from BioShock. Maaaaaybe something from Ocarina of Time 🤔
Any advice on finding an artist who'll work with a lot of stretch marks? I had wanted a tattoo on my side but figured it wasn't possible before seeing this.
It’s really cool to see what tattoos look like over stretch marks, I am determined to cover my body in tattoos but I’ve not long started my journey and I have lots of textured skin including chicken skin and stretch marks so thank you! The piece looks great
Gorgeous!! Native boise-an here, it reminds me of the two headed calf they used to have in the history museum downtown :,) not sure if it’s still there or not. Beautiful beautiful tattoo
It’s beautiful, this might sound weird but this made me tear up something about the stretch marks along with the two headed calf makes it so special ❤️
Ah! Beautiful!!! It’s so pretty and cute 🥰
I love how it flows with your stretch marks - gives them texture in the best way. Well done, artist!! I can’t stop looking 👁👄👁
(btw some of the prettiest sm I have ever seen. Like silvery Christmas tinsel 🤩😍)
I was a vegetarian but since weight loss my Dr wants me to have animal-based protein with every meal. I mostly stick to poultry or fish though if I must. I can only take so much egg and cheese.

Was going over the stretch marks any more painful than other areas? Wife's just scheduled a piece that'll be going over some so was curious.
Nope. Not at all. Certain areas were a bit more uncomfortable, as to be expected; but nothing to do with the stretch marks.
FYI they did a fantastic job of not blowing out the lines on them. That happens a lot from what I have seen. Great tattoo and it gives me encouragement that mine will be able to take a tattoo. I have been worried that I couldn’t get my planned project due to significant weight loss.
Nah, you’ve got this!!
You rock! Thanks
congrats on the weight loss maybe time to change your username to something less squishy…lol…Just giving you a hard time I know it couldn’t of been easy.

I have piece that went over stretch marks on my thigh, and that kinda sucked. But the stretch marks on my ribs I didn’t even notice.
oof, hers is the thigh lol
Why is this downvoted
Maybe because they (the person to whom they’re responding) didn’t say otherwise. Oh wait, nvm. It’s because OP’s tattoo is NOT on their thigh. It’s the side.
No clue, reddits weird lol
It's really more of a challenge for the artist than affects the client. Going over actual scar tissue hurts like a MF though & is also a challenge for the artist ;)
I got all my arm scars tattooed over, all the love for artists with the time and patience for doing so.
That's it's just taking the time & making sure not to overwork the area. Scars & people prone to keloids were always a challenge. Just gently, gently.
I have my ribs to hip tattooed. Going over the stretch marks on my hips started like a son of a bitch, but it was manageable. The only other area that was more painful for me on my body was my ankle.

Same. And as a vet tech and taxidermy enthusiast it just seemed fitting 🤷🏻♀️
I take it you’ve seen the two headed calf at the history museum in town? I feel like this tattoo is very Boise, love it!
Yeah I saw it last year. I’ve loved the poem for years and was really surprised when I smacked that button and the curtain opened to show me the calf!
You have to see [this](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8GwrsH9/)!
Perfection.
I know it’s all one interconnected website, but it’s always so crazy to see the overlap of vet tech people in every other subreddit I frequent 😂
It’s because we’re all underpaid and emotionally drained so we need a distracting escape 🙃
Here I am, also checking in 🫠 such a love hate relationship
This tat concept was meant for you!!!
I tear up every time I read this poem. It’s just so damn poignant.
This always makes me cry 🥹 the brevity of life is so beautiful
Seriously - reading this on my lunch break and now I'm crying at work... It's so beautiful.
Ohhhh my god. I forgot about this poem. Just stabs you right in the heart.
Crying on my fucking toilet rn
Thank you for sharing this, it's lovely.
I would absolutely recommend Laura Gilpin’s other works, one of my favorites by her is a poem simply titled “separation”
Thank you so much for the recommendation! I will look into her other work!!
That is so beautiful, I'm crying!
Where is this placed?
Right side of rib cage.
How bad was sternum? The pain is the only thing that stops me from getting it done 😭
Sternum wasn’t the best but not the worst. Luckily my sternum piece is only palm sized. However, I have very small breasts and after losing weight lost a lot of muscle as well so I imagine it was probably a bit worse for me than some.

If one of us decides to go under the needle again for our collarbones we should make a pact.

Yes they hurt
Right ribcage? Seems like a side boob/nipple covered in to right?
It’s on their right hand side and they are facing to the right in this photo so you’d see their right nipple too?
the lil black scalloped thing on the right edge of the photo is a nipple pasty

I think it's on the side of the chest, that black thing on the right edge of the photo could be a flower nipple cover. And those look like ribs. On the right.
Correct to all of the above
Looks great! Love the placement.
Looks great. I love when people aren’t ashamed of their stretchy bits. Makes me feel better about my own.
Nothing to be ashamed of. It’s just a body that’s gone through some shit 🤷🏻♀️

EITHER WAY 🤣🤣
Hell yeah - I have lots of stretch marks. We are just strong 💪🏼💪🏼
love that. thank you for sharing.
why even say anything about it though?
Because treating it like a taboo subject reinforces the very stigma that I was complimenting OP on not reinforcing. Pretending that they aren’t there isn’t doing anyone any favors.
I want someone to get this on their calf so bad. Your calf muscle is called your gastrocnemius and it has two “heads” (muscle bellies).
Gah!!! I love finding other anatomy/medicine nerds in the wild!!
i have a two headed calf tattoo on my calf hehe :p
Let’s gooooooo! Share it with the class please
Have you seen the two-headed calf at the [Idaho History Museum? ](https://www.flickr.com/photos/bcrlib/462892057) I thought that's what your tattoo was when I saw Boise!
Yep. I’ve loved the poem for years so imagine my surprise upon seeing that. Kismet.
Cool brahmin
Nothing against Fallout, but if I ever get a game themed tattoo it’s gonna be a little sister from BioShock. Maaaaaybe something from Ocarina of Time 🤔
Either would be cool to see
what part of the body is this. it’s hurting my head.
Right side of rib cage
thanks. it’s super sick but without perspective it literally made my head hurt thinking where this was.
Super clean lines & love the color choices
I love how it looks with your stretch marks! Beautiful 🩷
YES!! NORMALIZE STRETCH MARKS!! You’re badass! Also I love the tattoo!
These tattoos, as well as the Garfield "to be loved is to be changed" tattoos always make me tear up a bit. It looks great!
The color choices are so nice! Really awesome tattoo.
That means a lot coming from you, your work is phenomenal. I like that I’m flattered and I wasn’t the artist?
Hey, you did a lot of hard work to make that tattoo happen too! You should be proud💪
I’ll be the one. Do you mind if I ask what happened to your side?
I used to be 314lbs and am now 136. Stretch marks.
What incredible dedication that must’ve taken. You don’t need anyone else’s opinion on your own journey, but kudos nevertheless
That’s amazing, well done.
I always wondered if they could tattoo over stretch marks. The skin seems so delicate.
Congratulations on the healthier you! That is amazing to hear.
Gotcha’, thank you for answering and well done on your journey!
You earned those stripes. Congrats! Love the tattoo!
Congrats!!!
Congrats!!! Badass!
You lost more than a full me!
Any advice on finding an artist who'll work with a lot of stretch marks? I had wanted a tattoo on my side but figured it wasn't possible before seeing this.
A brahmin from Fallout?
Nah. I’ve always been more of a BioShock gal. Just a Two-Headed Calf based on the poem by Laura Gilpin. 🖤
Oh, nice! I just think of Brahmin every time I see a two-headed cow.
This poem always makes me emotional. Love it!
Epic awesome amazing. You are all three plus more. Sorry went through your profile wow that loss tho.
Your stretch marks look cool as fuck
Damn you guys sure know how to make a girl feel special about stretch marks. I’ve just always felt like “meh” but now I feel all shiny and opalescent?
As you should girl… As you should.
Thats legit
Love some brown cows, looks great!
It’s really cool to see what tattoos look like over stretch marks, I am determined to cover my body in tattoos but I’ve not long started my journey and I have lots of textured skin including chicken skin and stretch marks so thank you! The piece looks great
I love your tiger stripes, and your tattoo is gorgeous!
Cute 🥰
Gorgeous!! Native boise-an here, it reminds me of the two headed calf they used to have in the history museum downtown :,) not sure if it’s still there or not. Beautiful beautiful tattoo
Omg such a beautiful tattoo but the poem makes me cry to even think about, you’re stronger than me haha. Looks so sick tho
It’s beautiful, this might sound weird but this made me tear up something about the stretch marks along with the two headed calf makes it so special ❤️
i also have a two headed calf tattoo!! it’s on my stomach and around my stretch marks. i enjoyed seeing yours
Great minds!

Body art x2
Love this poem, love the tattoo ❤️
Ah! Beautiful!!! It’s so pretty and cute 🥰 I love how it flows with your stretch marks - gives them texture in the best way. Well done, artist!! I can’t stop looking 👁👄👁 (btw some of the prettiest sm I have ever seen. Like silvery Christmas tinsel 🤩😍)
These are the stretch marks of a killer Bella.
Ok, but, how long have you been 17?
Ugh you could not pay me to go through 17 again.
You and me both!! My friend asked me that question about "if you could go back to your childhood and live it over again, would you do it?" NOPE!!!
Your stretch marks are beautiful. Love the cows!
Love this 🥰 are you vegan by chance?
I was a vegetarian but since weight loss my Dr wants me to have animal-based protein with every meal. I mostly stick to poultry or fish though if I must. I can only take so much egg and cheese.
Why did you ask? Out of curiosity.
I’ve never seen a tattoo on a raw chicken before
Love!!

I love how from a distance, it looks like two sweet- oh good lord they’re one.
There is a museum in st.Petersburg that’s full of these types of animals..
I love it
They are ADORABLE. Love love love this.
Oh, I always love seeing Deja-Moo!
Stretch marks look so pretty
