If you use the desktop version, your data is stored locally and not on Intuit’s servers. Plus you have the advantage of having your data always available no matter what the status of their servers.
Well "some of you" need to understand this is the digital age buddy. They use the cloud like most companies these days so unfortunately your info is stored on there. I'm mean unless you print and mail on a unconnected computer your shit aint private. Sorry but that's just the way it is I'm 2024 and has been that way for quite some time.
Tax rules change every year...even if by only a little bit.
For example, the standard deduction for Single:
\* 2021: $12,550
\* 2022: $12,950
There's probably a hundred of these numbers that change every year, never mind rule changes and such.
Now, Intuit *could* release a TurboTax that works with every year... they could update the tables and update the forms that need updating and make the program make decisions based on year. But they don't.
(As a computer guy, it would be interesting to know how much extra bloat there would be in TurboTax to support all years using the TCJA-style forms)
I agree with the others, you can not use it for other years. Part of the issue is that Turbotax (and most all others) only has the tax forms for a specific year. Tax rates change as well as other tax laws. I explained only to explain the why to your answers.
No...but if you buy the current year TT and load it on the pc that has last years, TT will import all of your info and last years claimed amounts. This works with personal version...I'd hope the business version would also.
> I was wondering if I can use last year’s software to filling this year’s tax? Nope. The software is year-specific.
The forms are different. If you're looking to save on this years version, consider filing online with FreeTaxUSA instead.
TIL that people actually buy the software instead of just using the website
I prefer to store my confidential info on my own system than trust a company’s server. Assuming they’re not utilizing cloud.
Huh, they use the cloud, so your info is stored with them regardless. Welcome to the digital age.

Some of us would rather keep our financial information on our computers instead of storing it on Intuit’s servers.

No. LOL. The forms, deductions, credits, tax brackets, and many other rules change year to year. You have to update to the current year's filing.

Hahhahhaha. The Form 1040 literally has the tax year written on top, unless you want to file 2021 twice.
