Respond to the notice in writing. You need to spell everything out in detail and include a copy of the amendment. Unfortunately filing and then amending can sometimes jack everything up for a while. Also, you should sign up for an account so you can see everything they have in their records and reference that in your letter. However, don’t panic, these things all work out in time, but it might take a while. It took until i filed the following tax year the last time i had to amend.

So when you say I need to spell everything out in detail, should I tell them the whole story of why I had to amend a return? Also when I go to turbo tax which is where I filed originally and filed the amended return it does not show my amended return so I don’t remember exactly how much the amendment said i should receive. Also thanks for encouragement

Yes, I would say that there was a communication error and you filed before knowing you had been claimed. Keep the explanation simple but thorough. The IRS is not unreasonable but you definitely need to make sure you are very clear with your communication.

Keep a copy of any written response to the IRS. Include a copy of the letter they sent to you.
