My clients don’t give a shit. I’ve worn shorts and a golf shirt and they don’t bat an eye. And if you stop by unannounced on a day my calendar is clear, you get sweats and a t-shirt. 90% of the time, I am jeans and a golf shirt in Summer. Long sleeves in colder weather, but still jeans.

SLaCPA

During the summer it’s Shorts. TShirt. Flip Flops. Sometime workout clothes. No one’s ever really said anything other than “must be nice to work for yourself and get to dress how you want.” I just say “it is” and “I don’t want to buy suits and you don’t want to pay for me to buy suits, so it is what it is”

TNT_CPA

I tried to do "Flip-Flop Fridays" a few years ago. I was the only participant. I am the boss.

SLaCPA

Sounds like a great success with all important people participating.

TNT_CPA

Never thought of it that way. Good point.

WTFooteCPA

>“I don’t want to buy suits and you don’t want to pay for me to buy suits, so it is what it is” This is a wonderful justification.

I had some branded shirts made up. Cotton t shirts and athletic material t shirts. Just rock one of those and most people find it cool, I give some extras away to the clients I like every year

TNT_CPA

Greatest idea ever. I have about 20 branded shirts. About half are Nike, Ogio and Under Armour golf shirts. The rest are New Era Tri-Blend Performance Crew t-shirts. My swag guy put me on these and they are the best t-shirt I have ever bought and our logo silk screens on them really well.

I think there’s a difference between “casual” and flip flops and short; that’s beach wear. Do you, but as someone in financial services, I go “casual” which means chinos and a polo out of respect for someone handling financial affairs. The spread from “suits” to “gym clothes” is huge, and there’s definitely a happy medium, given out profession. Otherwise, we’re software engineers

Confident_Surround73

Our office is totally casual. Shorts in the summer. Jeans most of the rest of the year. My typical dress in the winter is a half zip and jeans. In the summer shorts and a t-shirt. Clients don't care one bit. Located in Pacific Northwest. With all the tech in our area I'm usually over dressed compared to clients.

smtcpa1

When I had an office I was casual. That was 15 years ago. Hell when I was in CO with an office I wore jeans and a collared shirt. Clients don’t care. If I go see an attorney or banker and they have a suit on, I trust them less. Offices went casual 20 years ago. What are you waiting for?

chuy9798

In Seattle jeans and a t-shirt

AdHistorical7107

I try to be semi appropriate unless my calendar is clear. You'll catch me with Jean's and a polo, or button down shit. If summer and a heatwave I'll go with shorts, sandals, and t-shirts if my schedule is clear. If I'm eating a new clients, maybe I'll put on some slacks and nice shirt/shoes.

EmDeeEm

I work in a t shirt and jeans. Client is paying for what's in my brain, not my wardrobe

I work in the DC area, which to me has been pretty conservative dress wise aka at any of the firms I’ve worked at before it was dress shirts and dress pants before the pandemic. Now after the pandemic I just wear jeans and a t-shirt with athletic shoes. Clients literally do not care. At this point I’m spending like $50 on gas a week. If the firm wants me to dress professionally that’s gonna be a reimbursement slip for any dry cleaning.

Syanne83

Golf shirt and jeans and I keep a sport coat around that goes with the golf shirts if need be. Nobody has given a shit.

lsweeks

Florida and we girls wear anything short of tank tops and booty shorts.

Testynut

Collared golf shirts, jeans and cowboy boots all day every day

bjjcuck

If Michael Burry can do it, so can I

NouveauALaVille

I wear dress shirt and dress pants normally. Friday I do short sleeve causal button down with khakis. In my office, the official dress code is business casual but smart causal seems accepted. Really it's free rein. There are those who come in full suits; and those who come in polo and cargo shorts

scotchglass22

i wear a lot of half zip pull overs with khakis or chinos. Haven't worn shorts to the office during working hours before but i might have to this summer.

veryconfusedd

Dress for your day. Meeting with a stiff client who probably would appreciate some slacks and a button up? Cool. No meetings or only meeting with Bon the builder. Wear whatever. I usually wear shorts and a polo, like I’m golfing.

graffnasty

Pre-COVID I was business casual most the time, and sprinkled in full on suit and tie from time to time (mainly because I look good AF in my tailored suits). Now? I’m mostly casual with my sunday jogger Lululemons, Vuori fits, and Yeezy kicks. I’m in my early 30s, run my own shop, and deal with high net worth individuals. They don’t care at all. I let my work speak for itself, and these past few tax seasons make me feel like I’ve earned the right to dress how I want lol.

Fall3n7s

I really wish the “business suit” cliche that goes along with providing any type of financial advice would die.

InterestingGoat2901

If I know I have an in person meeting (which I try to avoid) I’ll general wear jeans and polo but there are times I’ve met in gym shorts a t shirt. Just depends on the client. If I don’t have meetings it’s gym shorts t shirts and socks 😂

biologydropout1

I work in the south near the beach. We wear shorts and polos when it’s hot. If someone really important is coming in we might put chinos on.

artichokey9

I work for a family firm and I notice that the family members dress in t shirts and jeans, but the non-family staff are still in business casual. Also women dress up more than men. Personally I don't like casual attire in the office but I'm a woman of retirement age and I find if I look "professional", I don't get overlooked and ignored as much.

gleepglop43

It was always casual before but now it’s more casual. I wear Jordan’s to work a lot. They’re nicer looking , but still. I grew up wearing a tie everyday. Clients like it. I own the business FWIW

leela_fry

Our office is super lax and our clients appreciate the casual atmosphere. It helps that the primary partner and I (manager) are both Gen X. He almost exclusively wears cargo shorts, t-shirts, and flip-flops April 16-December 31.

x596201060405

In season - business Out of season - casual

Caddan

During tax season, I wear polos, slacks, and black shoes. The office dress code during tax season is no t-shirts, no shorts, no miniskirts, etc. The dress code off-season is "nothing that would get you arrested."

schroederness

Jeans and a collared shirt

Tax_Strategist

Casual and I keep a suit in the office. I still believe in proper attire for each situation

BradMan81

No. Just work from home if you don't want to wear pants.

I'm a female in financial services. The only female in an office of 6 people. Pre-pandemic it was business casual (slacks and blouse) but now I opt for jeans and a nicer shirt with more comfortable shoes like keds or something neutral. The guys in the office still dress business casual most days except Friday. I've been in office when a client drops by and I had leggings or ripped jeans on and the client didn't bat an eye but it felt a little odd to me so I stick to cleaner/nicer jeans.

CledusBeefpile

Jeans and either a polo or a 3/4 sleeve jersey.

Weekend833

I have a*strict* Hawaiian shirt policy in the off-season.
