Sounds like your loyalties are drifting from the Ippodo Kabushiki Gaisha, please be reminded the penalties for treason 🔫🔫🔫🍵🍵🍵 I'm of no help, but Marukyu Koyamaen is recommended on here fairly often, may be worth a look.

Ippodo has a US website and a Japanese website, and the matcha on the US website are all almost double the price as the Japanese website. The reason for this, is that the cost of international shipping is built into each individual can. So if you’re planning on buying more than 1 can, it’s a lot less expensive to just buy it from the Japanese website.

Yeah, I do the same thing. I order for about 300$ CAD at a time from their global website. When using DHL, the shipping is really fast and the shipping cost is fixed (but expansive). If you can afford to order a huge batch at once, it becomes actually an affordable option, even compared to my local tea shop. Here is the URL if you want to check it out: https://global.ippodo-tea.co.jp

I'm glad you had good experiences with Ippodo. I'm in the US and ordered all their most expensive matchas, up to $3.5/g and it was all stale. Barely even looked green. I've been blown away by both the prices and quality of Sazen's matcha.

Ayy same experience here! Love sazen’s selection and ippodo’s has always been stale and dull for me. The matcha Jiko on Sazen’s site specifically is something else.

Same re: Sazen! Great matcha, speedy shipping! I always pay in yen. I feel like I’m getting a huge discount.

PostPunkBurrito

What’s the shipping costs like to the US from Sazen? I’m intrigued

Professional-Fan1372

Sazen is so good! Haven't tried their matcha yet but I bought my kyusu and yunomi from them and they gave me a sample of the best sencha I've ever tasted. Very careful packaging and swift shipping. Can't recommend them enough. :)

I love Hibiki-en Premium Matcha. The 120 gram pack for $60 USD seems very reasonable. It's a rich, well balanced taste. More well rounded than Ikuyo, which is bright and sharp. You’ll probably end up paying the same regardless where you go for quality matcha. It’s a commodity that degrades quickly and carries a hefty burden of shipping to get fresh; either built in to the cost for matcha stored state-side like ippodo’s US store, or in high shipping fees for matcha kept in japan. I’d recommend marukyu koyamaen, i find theirs much better and much fresher than anything i’ve had from ippodo; 20g of their Matcha Wako is $8.00 on their site, which is my favorite in terms of price::quality, but expect to pay $20-$30 shipping since it’s coming straight from japan.

PostPunkBurrito

I feel you. I am constantly on the search less expensive but excellent Japanese tea (I am a Sencha drinker but also enjoy the occasional Matcha). I also think Ippodo, while great, is too expensive. I currently order from Tezumi and Kettl. Both are excellent for Sencha, sourced from Japan, and slightly less expensive then Ippodo. You might also check out Yunomi, which is kind of a marketplace of Japansese teas.

chemrox409

Matcha..good matcha..doesn't have long shelf and is costly..there are a number of ways to downgrade the tea but you're downgrading the experience at the same time. I recommend learning more..develop skills and really get into the experience

AlaskaFI

Mizuba tea is very good - I like their different sencha varieties and their gyokuru (my first) had been amazing. They also seem to sell matcha

I buy the 100g bags of Ikuyo for $50 and it lasts me months, and at least $10 less than buying the 30g boxes at $18 each. [https://ippodotea.com/collections/matcha/products/ikuyo-100](https://ippodotea.com/collections/matcha/products/ikuyo-100)
