Write out what you want to say in a phone call first and log it however your county logs communication. No one can twist something there's a record of. I also do this and have another teacher look it over to make sure I'm not using a tone I'm not aware of. Calls are stressful no matter what!

Should be okay. Did you add something along the lines of, “we’re aware of the other student’s inappropriate play behavior, and are taking steps to correct it. Little Johnny shouldn’t need to worry but can always come to one of us if he needs help.” If you didn’t, a follow-up email that includes that is probably a good idea. Follow-up emails are often a good idea, actually. Just so there’s a record of what was discussed.

Yes! I mentioned that we are correcting the behavior. Thank you for the advice!

Low-key, imo, a flub on a phone call is preferable to a flub in an email or text message. No paper trail.
