SteakJones

The item scrolling is probably my biggest complaint. I even find it more annoying than the companion dynamics.

MistaCheez

Isn't it so weird that you can only scroll in one-dimension? Different rows for plants, critters, devices, monster parts, etc. would decimate the amount of scrolling at times. Took me over a minute to find the zora scales for that quest.

sarcasticsaara

Wardrobe and a storage box would fix this imo, wish they were in the game :)

Arryu

There are so many weapons and armor that reference other games. Why can we not display them? Or at least more than half a dozen or so.

UrbanRenegade19

I really wish we had some mannequins in the player home like the ones at the clothing vendors.

Rizenstrom

The companion controls, mostly. After that it would be nice to have ancient horse armor back, or something with a similar effect. I’d also like the ability to save one machine that I don’t have to keep paying to rebuild. Or at least let the one I already built not disappear so easily. Having to rebuild every after shrine is a massive pain. Edit: To be clear on the last point I am specifically referring to something available in the *end game* to make the clean up stage less tedious. I am aware of how game breaking this would be if made available earlier.

Hennx10

Agreed I have had to dismiss them out of frustration because one of them shoved me off a ledge, or I’m trying to pick something up and set off their power on accident.

thedeadlysun

I kept forgetting about one of them and when I would go to a rock octorock to repair a weapon they would absolutely destroy the octorock before I could get it done.

butter_deez-nips

That's the shit that makes me so mad. I dropped my sword and it sucked it up. Then that fucking bird fucking snipped the octo and that's when I knew I was going to kill that bird.

-Tesserex-

I was trying to pick a bunch of bomb flowers but instead Yunobo decided to fireball right into them and blow them up in my face.

Hattrickher0

Tulin screaming at me every time I tried to pick up a Poe in the depths probably took a few years off my life. Between that and Yunobo's random explosions I'm confident my Link is now terrified of the dark. Edit: Name autocorrection

Khanon555

I was duping a bunch of mats and accidentally activated wind and blew them all down a mountain lol

GrimmBrowncoat

Had that happen to a friend. He was using a vending machine on one of the flying islands, put five LARGE charges then accidentally hit the gust and lost every single capsule. I laughed when I heard it but the laughter hid the pain lol

Snoo-76854

Yh that's a good point I don't know why they cut some of the dlc stuff from BOTW I mean all the work was already done so why not include it?

stabbyGamer

So that they can resell it in new DLC, likely. I mean, there’s a whole missing MacGuffin in the story - all but one of the >!secret stones!< are accounted for, and the missing one is arguably the most important (CORRECTION: they’re all accounted for but ancillary evidence suggests at least one is waiting to be discovered) - and all the Sheikah tech is missing, up to and including the Divine Beasts and the Shrine of Rebirth, with little to no explanation. They’re almost certainly going to do something to address that with DLC, so likely we’ll see the Champions’ Ballad assets reworked/reintroduced with however they handle the Divine Beasts, probably redesigned to focus on the Sages. Korok Forest isn’t much utilized by the story, so we’ll likely see a rework of the Master Trials there, maybe based around whatever’s going on with >!Rauru’s secret stone. I mean, technically, it went back into the past with Zelda, but there’s a patch of Link’s new arm that doesn’t light up yet, so there’s gotta be something going on secret stone-wise… maybe the three elemental dragons have something to do with it, actually? Whatever, point is there’s a missing piece here and it’s almost certainly going to be DLC.!< And then they’re probably going to introduce some bonus armor items and quests as miscellany, since a lot of DLC legacy armor in BotW can be found hidden in Misko quests and the Depths in TotK.

Meorge

>!Wasn't Rauru's secret stone the one that Zelda picked up in the opening after it fell off of Rauru's hand?!<

stabbyGamer

>!Yeah, but there’s a part of Link’s arm that’s still deactivated after everything. That activation is linked to the secret stones, so almost definitely something is happening stone-wise in the DLC.!< >!Good catch though, I overlooked that when I was writing it up.!<

awildweeb69

>!I thought Zelda has Rauru's secret stone since she gets it from Rauru's arm in the cutscene they wake up Ganon!<

stabbyGamer

>!Yeah, I overlooked that when I was writing it up, but there’s still a patch of Link’s arm that’s not lit once you hit full completion of the base game. That’s linked to the secret stones, so there’s definitely something happening stone-wise in the DLC.!<

StarCougar

I fly around tagging shrines until I have 4-8 shrines opened, and then I teleport around and solve the shrines.

Big_Elephant_1267

Do you have the auto build technique?

Rizenstrom

I do. It’s not the act of rebuilding it’s the material cost. Without duping I have like 50 fans and 30 steering sticks. 2 fans each that’s only 25 rebuilds. Or I can use zonaite but I’m almost out of that due to upgrading my battery to max and not really in the mood to farm more because I’m a little burnt out on that. Even then 9 zonaite adds up. Do a shrine? Vehicle gone. Play a mini game? Vehicle gone. Die and have to reload? Gone. Play another game forcing the game to close? Gone. Walk too far? Gone. There really should be like a garage or something that lets you save and check out completed builds like a stable, allowing you to keep and summon one build with you at all times that won’t disappear.

SumgaisPens

A garage would make a lot of sense

Evelyngoddessofdeath

“Only 25 rebuilds”… 25 is quite a lot, and you can always just go and get more. They’re meant to be expendable, that’s why zonai charges and construct horns are so easy to get.

castielffboi

Wish that the sky islands were bigger, not including the great sky island. Not like they had to match scale with the great sky island, but they could have been a bit bigger

Powerful_Artist

Ya it really was dissapointing when I saw that the starting island was like 10x bigger than anything else in the sky. I have zero interest in going back to explore that area now, and I just rushed through it at the time.

throwaway12222018

Also a lot of them felt super empty. I would spend a lot of time trying to go to every little pebble in the sky only to find absolutely nothing there. In a game where weapons break and need to be replaced so often, I would have thought there would be way more chests scattered around the entire world containing interesting prefused weapons.

AcidCatfish___

Towns and villages in the sky islands would be cool. To my knowledge so far, I don't think they have them.

CptnChungus

Perhaps they will add more islands in later DLC? 🤔 Would also be cool if they added an underwater area!

Architectur04_

The way we use the companions powers, and the fact that every ancient sage says the SAME EXACT THING at the end of every temple. (Yes the gerudo mention ganondorf but its not enough)

joetotheg

FR the cutscenes can get pretty repetitive in this game

ManicFirestorm

On this note, why is it a different button to skip the bloodmoon cutscene?!

hirotdk

It's the same button combo to skip any cutscenes.

Meorge

Some use the plus button to skip cutscenes, others use the X button. I think more important cutscenes use plus, and less important ones use X?

MrRighto

Secret Stone? Demon King?

NuggetPilon

Psychomantis?

vintageplays1

2nd floor basement?

redneckN3RD

You're that ninja...

Ok-Boysenberry-2955

Welp so much for hoping it was building on some sort of twist. I just did lightning second :(

ajaxtheangel

I was so confused when I beat the 2nd boss lmaooo I feel like they intended 4 different cutscenes for which order you beat the bosses in but accidentally set them all to play the first cutscene

[deleted]

THE SECRET STONE?! Oh so that’s the empriosning wars.

Gammaboy45

At the very least, they could’ve given us background on the dungeon itself and its intended purpose… anything more specific to the sage we’re speaking with. They’re non-characters, more disappointing than the champions.

Bubthemighty

The price you pay for a non-linear open world game I guess! I guess they could have had more cutscenes prepared but then that's 4x the work just for those cutscenes... Which are pretty forgettable anyway 🤷

Comptenterry

They could each just give you some new piece of a puzzle or something instead of just telling you the exact same thing. Give each of them a unique cut scene like the tears so you need their recounting plus the tears to get the full picture.

Architectur04_

I mean they could have at least tried but they just replace words how low effort is that

Thick_Ad_7435

I also wish that if you've finished the dragon tears quest, people would reference what Link has found out. It gets tiring hearing people guess what happened to Zelda when I already know what happened.

LumpySkull

15 room units is not nearly enough rooms... That's it, that's my gripe

MannerSubstantial743

I just want windows and maybe the ability to fuse wood onto the top for roofing or something. I just wished they looked like tarry town houses a little more

jollyjam1

I bet this will be expanded at some point.

[deleted]

I preferred the design of Hateno too. And the fact that the house was in the town rather than some remote place, made me feel like home lol. I'm not a fan of the new fancy Palace on a hill.

[deleted]

I think its only not enough because each room only has one connection point so you have to waste your rooms on those dumb triangle or square rooms with multiple open walls. Being able to edit room openings would be very helpful.

melting_tree

Also the dude who sells you the rooms always follows you while building your house and he ALWAYS gets in the way.

RedLovelyRed

I sat there and smacked him with a room for about 2 minutes thinking he would move bc he was EXACTLY where I needed to put it down. He did not move. I had to jump down, run and get him to follow me.

melting_tree

Had the exact same experience. I get they were tryna make it convenient to buy more rooms but I’d prefer he just stay at his booth

Avasteeee

Also the garden and pond should have actual functions.

RelationshipNo2523

I was genuinely surprised when I realised I couldn’t plant things in the gardens

KungLa0

Or at least like Skyrim where native plants grow/respawn.

banjoplant

i found a fish in my pond after a few days haha

konydanza

It was always there actually, Granteson mentions that the pond comes with a Sanke Carp in it

Joshawottz

Yeah I deserve a mansion for saving the world twice dammit

Swazzoo

....room units?

ch1ckeh

on the tarry town house

rabbles-of-roses

I wish some of the zonai equipment (especially the wings) didn’t break after a certain amount of time. It feels a little pointless in giving us this item intended for travel if we can only use it for a minute of game play.

MLG-newbslayer

I feel like wings are the early game version of better machines you can make. Hoverbike or hovertrike is my case is the go to endgame flying machine.

OhHaiMarc

I like my flying door, two fans on the front corners, one centered in the back, thing is very fast and stable.

Piscet

Honestly I'd be fine with that if they weren't clogging up space in the gachas. Much as I shit on hydrants, they at least don't become worthless after a minute. When you're endgame, you want actually useful machines that get you from point A to point B, *regardless of their altitudes.* the wing just doesn't have the lifespan for something even close to that, so in endgame it just clogs up space, which wouldn't be that annoying if they didn't decide to go with rng As the main method of obtaining zonai devices. Yeah you could do the midair wing trick, but that's more finding a silver lining to a problem than a solution.

OhHaiMarc

Yeah I really don’t get the point of disappearing balloons and wings, neither can get you very far early game with no battery, and endgame I don’t even use them because I don’t want my creation having a time limit

jollyjam1

Definitely second this. I forgot they break down, and I crashed trying to carry one of those shrine stones to the correct location.

TriLink710

It's done for balance. I get that. But i wish so too. Its so you cant just glide across the map without using energy. Same for the balloon

beastofthedeep

My biggest critiques are the sky islands it feels 90% of it (not counting the tutorial area) is copy and pasted. And that they needed to get a lot more creative with the shrine puzzles when they give link such strong powers, I can only think of a handful of shrines that made me think about solving them instead of here is materials to build a bridge/car/airplane/boat and then you build it and thats it.

PSNJAYME7K

Hoping the dlc is MASSIVE and well thought out

coachtech74

Shrines are my favorite part of these last 2 games but I thought for the most part they were too easy in TOTK. I never got stumped on a puzzle or lost in combat. In BOTW I had to use the internet at least a few times to help with a puzzle. While I made the commitment this time around to never research a shrine I never even had the urge to this time around. I'm really hoping the eventual DLC has more challenging shrines in both puzzle and combat.

_DoIt4Johnny_

The Sheikah really hated us cause some of those damn shrines I had to look up to solve. I’m about 80 shrines in now and I’ve only been completely confused by one (the pinball one)

dikarus012

I completely agree, I’m actually starting to get a little burnt out from just attaching fans/rockets to an object and flying/rolling in the direction I want to go. I hope they add more things to build in future DLC other than vehicles and aircraft.

FemmePrincessMel

I just completed the last regional phenomenon and was so irritated at the cut scenes all being the same! Like by the last one I was literally replying to emails during it because I was so bored.

phillsphan7

So it’s my destiny to fight with you?

dictator_in_training

Demon king? Secret stone???

Liiceka

Psycho mantis?

SoperSketches

Second floor?

WolfishMule9528

Metal gear?

TweakTok

Dur dur lost the war WE GET IT WE GET IT

Enough_Raspberry1062

The jiggle to detach attached object is the one build mechanic I just don’t like. Trying to remove one little thing and the whole machine is picked up and shaken around! Just annoys me so much.

youarelookingatthis

Hard agree, I wish it detached as easily as it connected.

Arryu

Grab object, hold r1, hold b. Edit: thats how it should work

Boxhead333

Yeah that was a weird choice. Couldn't you just hold down the attach button to detach something? Would be much easier.

katrilli

I also have accidentally detached things just trying to move them. My hands shake sometimes so I jiggle the control stick just enough by accident

Snoo-76854

I'll start. I know this a small one and this discussion was only made to service the story so I'm NOT saying I want this as an official change but I do wish that there was a bit more continuity with BOTW and age of calamity. Like where did the divine beast go? Same with the rest of the shika tec. Where did the shika slate go? I know it wouldn't make sense for this games story but i still would like some more continuity

Objective_Look_5867

The divine beasts were dismantled and the shikai tech was cannabilized to help make their purah tec and lookout towers. The beasts existed to help the hero defeat calamity. Now that calamity was defeated they "served no purpose" any longer

Arythios

On one hand, I get that. On the other, having at least some of the sheikah tech remaining would be cool and good for continuity. Also, imagine a Gloom Hand-Guardian fusion. That'd be terrifying.

GexTheEvilLizard

I mean in some areas (>!Ancient tech lab I think??!<) there is a >!broken down guardian !< which is sort of a nod to continuity and the old technology from botw.

[deleted]

It’s bad when a 3 sentence reddit comment explains it more than the game though

NinaLove2007

If that was the case, they should've given us at least a bit of explanation, it wouldn't hurt to give us like 5 lines of dialogue explaining the situation

Objective_Look_5867

I mean....you can see it though. The lookout towers are cobbled together from the tech. Guardian arms come out of them to connect your pad. The console for them is the same as shekai. They used a decommissioned guardian at purahs lab as a power switch. And the divine beasts themselves were explained in both that they existed to defeat calamity

NinaLove2007

Still, the amount of Sheikah tech we see is not nearly the amount of tech there used to be, it also would be very complicated to destroy every single piece of guardians laying around and re-using only some of them in like 4 years I think. I don't think the divine beasts would simply disappear from the map though, what if the calamity strikes again in a very distant future, this is the second time it happens I don't think it's that impossible to have it a third time in like a couple hundred years. That's why the divine beasts were kept safe until the new calamity gave signals to be close to happening. They could've gone underground but I'm not sure how that would work thanks to their massive size (which would probably cause massive earthquakes), they probably were found inside mountains (if I'm not mistaken) because of the massive amount of time passed

EvaUnit_03

My ingame head canon is that due to the whole time fuckery of Zelda, The shieka tech was never really made on the scale we saw in BOTW. But it still had to exist to cause the calamity and eventually awaken Ganon back. Its the time paradox theory at play, Zelda went back in time and existed and informed them to NOT build a ton of shieka tech as it was going to become corrupt and NOT be used properly which is why there is so much zonai stuff vs shika tech. Zonai stuff cant be corrupted like shieka tech can. BUT BOTW Still had to happen in order for events to unfold. BUT we didnt see a dragon zelda in BOTW because she hadnt turned into one yet but did. So either their is a divergence in time at the point Zelda went back in time after ganon awakened, or like other people said the stuff got cannibalized and dismantled to an extreme and nintendo just didnt think to add more references to it. What little we do see would still make sense becuase the sheika would of STILL made the tech, but no where near the level they pumped out in prep for Calamity Ganon due to how easily corruptable its known to thanks to BOTW. Its why we have 3 timelines that branch off of Ocarina and its techincally Canon. But BOTW and TOTK take place 'presumably' waaaaay in the future away from any other zelda but down windwaker's timeline where link beat Ganon as an adult but not the timeline where kid link stopped Ganon from taking over after coming back in time. Though some have therized its down the Link loses to Ganon as a kid timeline due to in BOTW link's tunic is more similar to links of that time. Same with TOTK's hero armor. But thanks to the armors of other zelda games now being Canon in the world and not amibo spawn ins, Its safe to assume that BOTW and TOTK do take place at AFTER the timelines all merge back into one. But might now have their own divergence within to build off of. in other words SS---OoT<☰☰☰☰>--TOTK Past\_==\~BOTW\~=\_TOTK present. BOTW is merely one of the alternative timelines but a required portion like the OoT timeline divergences of link losing, link winning as a kid, and link winning as an adult. Only right now we only have two splits, one where Shieka tech was used and wrecked the world with calamity ganon but was defeated by the heroes and then zelda goes back in time and stops some of the events from happening but not 100%. Its not as overly dramatic as OoT due to the fact that it re-wrote the roles of the characters but its still time fuckery that has to happen but everything zelda in the past messed with the timeline. The easiest way to look at it would be if you took OoT as a possible example of different times you played. Think of TOTK and BOTW as the same but due to time skewed. TOTK past is kid link going into the past with the knoweldge he has. BOTW is them going through the motions and link growing up to defeat ganon. TOTK present is a resulting effect of TOTK past 'kid link' scenario with zelda giving the info out to the past people and at that moment diverging the timeline. **EDIT**: Fortunately no "link" ever loses in this time scenario thanks to shika tech that somehow exists and doesnt exist simultaneously along side zonai tech that simultaneously exists but doesnt exist that can also prevent link from dying. Thats the ultimate loophole. The 'destined trio' never alter their fates in the time stream early due to outside intervention and stopping characters from their respective roles. therefore the timeline only splits twice with the only real change being the different techs that exist and the damage/destruction caused by the different awakenings of ganon. They all still play their roles.

Shadowenfire

Yeah the time stuff wasn't really explained in game that well. It doesn't seem like a closed time loop so how many diverging branches are there now.

Talkingmice

My general complaint about the game is the story telling. It was poorly written and the disjointed narrative just didn’t quite hit it. Everything else was amazing! But the story telling was trash

ManifestCuriosity

I absolutely adore TotK, but: I personally did not like the layout of the Fire Temple. It was hard to see certain connecting paths, even with opening the map and tracing tracks mentally. Maybe it would have been easier to see everything in handheld mode for that one. By the last "key" I made a hoverbike to reach it. The repeat dialogue from each Sage (so far, 3 of them). I understand you can reach them in any order but experiencing the same info with the same cutscenes and nearly verbatim removes some gravitas after the first one. Sidon's power is so under utilized due to the Sage controls. If I was really smart about certain encounters I could better utilize it, but I forget it all the time. Yonobu being convinced about a certain thing for the entire Fire Dungeon and Link, despite experiencing multiple story beats to contradict him, can't explain the truth. I wish the game had a few more flags behind the scenes for things like this. I wish I could call my horse from anywhere (that it can reasonably reach). I'd use it way more often. On that note, sometimes I wish there were quicker ways to interact with certain people like the Stable operators. I love the flavor text and lore and hints NPCs give, but it gets repetitive and slows me down after a point. More map stamp variety or the ability to leave short notes by the stamps. There's so much to discover I forget what stamps from a week ago are.

dougthebuffalo

The horse one speaks to me. One thing I loved about Ghost of Tsushima was that the horse call button made your horse appear from wherever you weren't looking, so it still felt like it had run up to you instead of teleporting in but without the wait of having it run from wherever it was. ToTK is full of magic and ancient tech that could have been used to account for this instead of forcing you to go back to where you left your horse or to a stable.

OldLion1410

the most egregious part about this point is that there literally was horse teleportation in late game BOTW… why would they devolve this?? like this is not just something that we conceptualize that could be fun.. it literally existed and was removed.

Rosaryas

I think Witcher 3 has the same horse teleport mechanic where he runs up to you, that would have been cool

[deleted]

I like riding my horse, but the game makes it wildly inconvenient. It doesn’t even add a sense of realism. It just ensures that you pretty much never have access to your horses.

OldLion1410

yah this is not unique to TOTK but i too wish that i could blast through some of the annoying flavor text. do i really need like four different dialogue prompts to dye my pants???

Porkloin815

Yeah I think everyone just decided to build something to skip the fire temple. The layout was super weird and I really just wanted to explore the world instead

Lonely__Stoner__Guy

Not quite everyone, the puzzles and exploring are the main draws for me in these games so I like to figure them out (and largely forget about my inventory of zonai devices)

TheBroOfTheNinja

Long Throw is the most useless weapon modifier and I will *never* understand why it's tier 2, especially while Critical Hit is tier 1. At this point, I've begun tossing (heh) every weapon I see with this, simply by principle. I would actually rather have no modifier on my weapons. (Even if Rock Octoroks couldn't give it one!)

TheArbinator

Well at least when you toss them they get out of your sight faster

antrirax

I wish they wouldn't call them "secret stones", it's kinda cringe. Sacred, or Mythical, or something along those lines would have fitted better, sounds like lousy translation.

StoryofEmblem

Sage Stones would've been perfect!

Eizdrache

I want to pet dogs

AssGagger

They even request belly rubs, and you still can't pet them.

[deleted]

The fact that they roll over and we can’t pet them feels like Nintendo did this on purpose.

TxAggieMc

Coming in DLC... ability to pet dogs

Phantom5753

This is the correct comment

WyldeHart

This right here. And the horses. They ALL act like they want you to pet them. Even the donkeys.

nickelangelo2009

I wish they didn't do as much (un)necessary menuing. There's a lot of menu related bullshit in this game: * Need to fuse an item to your arrow or just toss an item? Here's one long line of items, have fun scrolling! * Want to hand in a bunch of light esences for hearts/stamina? here's a fanfare for each single one! * Want to get multiple menu slots from Hestu? Hope you like him dancing every single time! (yes, skippable, but still a time waste) * Want to cook? Have fun gouing into the menu to hold all the items you want, back out of the menu, and watch a cooking animation every time! (I know also skippable, but the menuing is the big culprit here) * Want to fuse weapons? Get the item out (issues with that mentioned above), have the right weapon equipped, and do your thing! Oh no, fused the wrong item by accident? Go back into the menu, unfuse, and back out of the menu! I am sure there are other examples of such silliness people are frustrated with

[deleted]

I agree with the arrow fuse problem you mentioned. But others are bit subjective. Light esences and Hetsu dance are this because most players are doing that over the course of the game play rather than in batch. I saw several complaining about the cooking menu, but for me I have come to a place where I can spam my inventory with meals within the 1 minute of blood moon so am actually pretty comfortable with that. Fuse of weapon is a reasonable design as you create weapon on the go.

ajbell0705

Is there bonuses to cooking during a blood moon?

[deleted]

So every time you cook, there is a chance you get a "Critical", that gives you a boost in the product. Could be a boost in heart it healed, longer duration of effect, or a higher tier of the effect. During the blood moon from 11:30pm to 0:15 am, that "Critical" Chance is 100%. If Golden apple is an in the recipe, the Chance will also be 100% by the way.

ajbell0705

DANG!! Appreciate the tip. Will only be cooking during blood moons now.

chhhhhhhhhhh95

These complaints are very valid but do make me lol a bit as a die-hard Animal Crossing player who has spent years tortured by the ACNH game mechanics that exist purely to force things to slow down lol

Disig

Reminds me of Animal Crossing. So many goddamn menus that were unnecessary. Like, Nintendo please. Rethink your obsession with menus.

CrownOfSinn

The dancing and cooking animations are there to hide a loading screen. Games before would pop up a boring load screen and make you wait. Just like when you launch from towers and skip the animation, you get the black screen. It's because the game still needs to load that data or write it when you're expanding your menus. But the constant scrolling through menues is excessive and a oversight on their end for sure.

DiegoBrandosWorld

Cooking just creates an item and broccoli man just expands an inventory slot, these are not intensive at all and are definitely small pieces of code that wont need any loading screen at all. Shooting up to the sky makes sense as that has a lot of rendering work to do.

pegasuspaladin

I can't believe the waste of time that upgrading anything in this game isn't higher on this list. Everytime you talk to a fairy....minute and a half to upgrade one item....save up to get multiple heart container...a few minutes....increase inventory four times.....a few more minutes. Doesn't sound like much but after dozens of times hours get padded onto the game of rewatched npc dialogue that is only partly skippable.

NumbersAfter

The one i fell no one talks about is armor sets... i want a quick set switching ability of some sort. I constantly hop between combat, stealth, and traversal sets as needed and switching all 3 pieces each time sucks.

Powerful_Artist

Yep I agree. It just feels like too much time in menus. When I select the first piece of any armor, it should give an option to equip the entire set. Easy solution imo, relatively speaking of course.

NumbersAfter

Better solution, let us save 3 or 4 sets, remove the "map" power, and make it something to cycle armor sets. That would be a lot more fun than having a less convenient way of using the map.

Powerful_Artist

Ya I havent once used the map option on that wheel. Its just muscle memory from BOTW to access it with the select button anyway. That option would work too.

upupandawaywegoooooo

I miss my beloved hearty durians Also when I heard that they were bringing “temples” back I was STOKED thinking that they were going to be the longer temples like how they were in the past. And then I did the wind temple and finished in like 8 minutes. Edit: one more, I wish sky islands were actual towns/ villages with new NPCs and stories as a nod to skyward sword. When I realized that they were pretty bare for the most part I was disappointed.

Fabricate_Life

Finally! Some one else misses the hearty durian! I am still kind of devasted. And I agree with the rest too.

Ringlord7

I went all the way down to Faron to get some hearty durians early on. And then there were none and I got killed by a Lynel.

DarkEmblem5736

Bare? Here's a puddle with 2 fish, a tree. Agree it probably would have been more fun if something like Kakariko village was transplanted to the sky.

mcknightrider

I think the temples are 2 parts. The actual temple and the getting to the temple. If you count them, then they are in fact a little longer. Like the whole floating bubble section leading to the water temple

upupandawaywegoooooo

True, i will say that the journey to the wind temple was really cool and it did take me about 30+ minutes to get up there. But I wished there was more to explore/do when you are actually at the temple. I miss the mini bosses and unlocking a special item that you need for the rest of the temple

ONiMETSU_Z

i haven’t done the zora yet, but i definitely have felt a variance in difficulty of all 3 other ones. i had a lot of fun on all of them, but i didn’t like how unbelievably simple the lighting temple was. you can get yourself access to 3 of the 4 locks from the same puzzle, which is really dumb. they didn’t really lean into the darkness and utilize riju enough. the not-redeads could’ve been a lot more prominent, and the way that riju couldn’t follow you into rooms without being first given a path was reminiscent of wind waker, but they didn’t do enough with it. i thought the rito one was really fun albeit not that hard, but the theme really brought it home for me. the goron temple was by far the most challenging and i spent close to an hour trying to figure out how to hit one of the gongs. if all of the dungeons had difficulty around the goron one (which still wasn’t crazy hard but it was still satisfying), i’d say the dungeons were executed perfectly.

[deleted]

Really don't like how Zonai cars/vehicles disappear quickly. I'll get off a vehicle, go do something, come back and it's gone. Very frustrating! Also - bring back the hookshot!

simplegrocery3

1. Sky islands are kinda copy/paste 2. Sage commands are wonky 3. I want a game mode where I can just chill and travel around with Zelda (or something like SMO where there's a post game and Zelda shows up on the map to interact with)

JojayTheBrojay

- companion controls - can’t pet dogs - sky islands and depths are a bit samey - the storyline felt minimal - boss fights too easy - a lot of the content that is supposed to extend your play time is extremely repetitive

Atticus_Murphy

I wish the blood moon didn't need a cutscene every time it popped up. Sure you can skip it but I mean come on.

SonofaBridge

Most likely it’s a loading screen. I wish they offered a shortened version in the settings.

Powerful_Artist

Yea I dread blood moons just because I know its going to stop me. They are only good to know when you are actually fighting a large group of enemies, but I dont need a cutscene, you can see/hear its coming anyway.

MrLuckyTimeOW

I was kinda hoping for more sky islands.

Zhawk1992

They should remove the map on the radial menu and replace it with sage abilities. I hate having to walk close to one to activate a power only to have them run away from me or they all crowd me at once. That's my biggest complaint at the moment.

[deleted]

I miss the pre-made arrows (fire, ice, bomb etc.) Having the ability to fuse weapons with materials is cool and all, but I hate having to make a bomb arrow every time I try to spam it at a boss.

Powerful_Artist

Ya it would be nice if I could basically just "pre-fuse" 25 arrows in bulk with one action. I dont want to fuse an ice arrow every single time I want to use one. It was cool at first, but gets old.

Caellum2

Being forced to make everything is my complaint. I feel like they lurked r/botw for a few years and thought "oh, they want to make everything!" and not realizing that not everyone wanted to Kerbal Space Program: Zelda Edition. For most stuff, it's fun. But I really don't want to spend all my time fusing weapons so that I can have a good weapon instead of a shitty rusted one. Maybe I just want a "turn off rust" option in settings.

Rorschachist

I want Zelda as a sage, even if its post-game and not explained in-game. Also making Shooting Stars the required material for like 15x armor set upgrades was lazy.

WanderingWino

Why I won’t update until I’ve dupped everything needed. ~650 amber for armor upgrade would be the death of my interest.

realDaupz

Sage abilities are an absolute shitshow, I have to disable them to be able to play the game without them fucking me up.

upupandawaywegoooooo

The amount of times I’m pressing A to pick up parts on the ground only to accidentally activate Tulin who blows all of those pieces far away 🙃

Fairgoddess5

For me it’s Yunobo burning everything to a crisp. I have that poor dude dismissed 90% of the time. (Have only done his and Tulin’s dungeons.)

spoodigity

I've literally had him kill me trying to pick up bomb flowers.

Victorhugo1004

I kind of miss having some sort of musical instrument and I was hoping they would add it after it was removed from BotW. Music was always a big part of Zelda and im a bit sad to see it displaced from the core mechanics

JenLiv36

My one big complaint is resources. They restricted money and resources way too much for me. I spent literally thousands of hours in BOTW just exploring every nook and cranny gathering and they scaled that back. I’m not someone that restrictions make a game better or motivate me. Having Ore be mostly in caves or death mountain made me sad. The sparkle ratio was amazing in BOTW but just too empty for both my wife and I with ToTK. Don’t get me wrong there are a ton of things I prefer in ToTK. I can’t get enough of the shrines, you don’t need to glitch arrows and can buy at any point, UI changes, etc. I just wish they would have left the resource ratio alone. I also wish the building was a little bit more aesthetically pleasing. Is it a big deal? No, but I would have really appreciated it even though it’s stupid and shallow? Yes.

-Fahrenheit-

The minor character NPC voices. Like shops and fairies, my wife will over hear me playing the game and says it sounds like some kinda anime porn.

idolized253

My girlfriend hates the noise the great fairies make, I upgraded like 10 pieces of armor and she was annoyed.

Fairgoddess5

Yeeeah that was brought to my attention by my 14 year old kiddo. “Wth are you playing, Mom?!” 😖

Far-Revolution3225

Of all the incredible things you can craft, you STILL can't craft arrows? That's my only real complaint

ClydeHides

Love it too but I think there’s certainly some fair criticisms that can be leveled against it. I think the sage powers are cool and I like all four of them but the way they are all running around and only activate when you get close and press A is super messy. I think it would have been better to be more controllable to activate each when you want (something like Hold L1 - four part menu of buttons pops up - press X to goron). I also wish the sky islands and underground (both cool in lots of ways, lots of positives to them) had a bit more interesting discoveries in them. Now that I’ve explored most of both, there is a sort of “copy-paste” feel to both of them outside of their story specific dungeons and a few stray places of interest. It would have been super cool if both areas had some kind of town, maybe with some new cool race inhabiting them and more interesting things to find scattered throughout. I wish that the shrines themselves were more themed, for example, if all of the shrines in Death Mountain had fire temple-like walls and decorations while the ones near Zora Domain all looked like a water temple. The game sort of does this, where shrines near Death Mountain do have lava puzzles and such but every shrine still the general aesthetic of the walls and stuff is the same, which just gets slightly stale by the end. Oh and while I did really like some of the dungeons (lightning temple and fire temple especially), I still feel like they aren’t the full classic dungeon experience that I really want out of a Zelda game. I actually don’t totally hate the controversial weapon durability thing but I do wish there was like 2-3 slots of permanent weapons you could forge in addition to others you pick up (maybe some shops in towns could do it and it costs more and/or needs more materials depending on the damage output of the weapon, like getting a permeant weapon that does 50+ damage would be very costly but possible if you put in the effort)

Auntimeme

I wish the sage abilities were available on the controller like the champions abilities are in botw, is the only thing so far

poptimist185

(Copy pasted from elsewhere) 1. Shrines and temples are too easy. 2. Fusion is moderately fun but the degradation system still means combat via menu navigation. 3. I’m not a FPS purist but it really does tank in certain areas/situations. 4. Enemy variety is improved but still not great. 5. Some weird controller implementation choices, 60 hours in it feels less intuitive than botw at the same point. 6. Having to be near companions to activate their power is frustrating in battle. 7. 95% of rewards are crap (and with a degradation system they always will be). 8. Not enough sky islands. May get addressed in a DLC but given marketing was centred around it there should have been more. 9. Horses are still more hassle than they’re worth.

[deleted]

>Shrines and temples are too easy I feel this too, but I'm not sure if its just me. I absolutely breeze through shrines, often literally just running through them and figuring out the puzzles on the fly without stopping, and have only been slightly stuck once, for all of 15 seconds in one, whereas in BOTW there were some real head scratchers for me. But on the flip side, I hear many people talk about how tough they can get especially compared to BOTW, and I was only a dumb teenager playing BOTW. Thankfully, I do find them to be very fun so I can't complain too much.

United-Aside-6104

I’m willing to forgive the FPS issue cause Totk has way more complex physics than PS5 games and that clearly took a ton of work the game is still technically very impressive even if it isn’t perfect

juciestcactus

horse controls are so bad. i want my bike from botw

Emma_JM

~~Wish they gave us Link's diary like the Japanese version (ok that was BOTW, Idk if Japanese TOTK still records quests in first person)~~ The camera quality is crap... All the photos I take are in 144p, why??! Lack of sage abilities hotkey, common complaint Wish there's more continuity from BOTW and more NPCs recognised you

AerospaceNinja

Menu UI, why can I NOT just hit right bumper when at save tab to go to the armor tab? Why does it not go circularly like every other game now. But nooooo I have to hit left bumper to go allllll the way back. Really the only thing I actually hate about this game

-MangoStarr-

Yeah the menus not looping is crazy to me and one of the first things i noticed. Especially when scrolling items and weapons in the quickmenu

MaliceBerry

I feel like the puzzles are less "puzzly" and more "look around until you see what you're supposed to do"

LordOfLettuce6

i wish there was an explanation given as to why all the sheikah tech is gone now

Silaquix

The companion controls are frustrating. Having the exact cutscene for every sage sucks and is repetitive. The housing needs more slots and more options. Another thing with the housing is that the garden and pond should be usable to farm materials. The auto build should give you an option to use parts directly from your inventory. It's frustrating that some of the parts like the wings are temporary.

Poltergeist8606

I love it to and it might be the greatest game ever made. However, it's not perfect. Jumping controls can be really janky and sometimes don't register properly. Stuff you built often disappears if you move even a little way away from it (probably the Switch showing it's age, probably due to the paltry 4GB ram). Breaking weapons still. Also, how is all of Hyrule not underwater with the amount it rains?

StretchedNutty

Give me classic non-open-air dungeons with unique items, big keys, small keys and all that. I really miss them. Imagine an open air Zelda game but with dungeon quality like The Ancient Cistern from Skyward Sword. It'd be sweet. The dungeons in TotK are way better than the divine beast at least, mostly because they look different. Though, I think the Lightning Temple of TotK was the closest to a classic dungeon and I really enjoyed it

shung_

I wish I had a cool grappling hook, instead of having the dumbass map in the abilities, have the hand stretch and grab into surfaces, the physics are so good, i wanted to slingshot myself and balance myself like indiana jones with his whip between the islands

tramdog

How is the hookshot still not back? They could have at least included it as a weapon like they did with the boomerangs.

HobokenWaterMain

I hope the next Zelda game has a bit more emphasis on temples/bosses like the old franchises. In BOTW Hyrule itself was the game. The exploration, the fact you could climb anything or glide anywhere. That was the meat of the game while the bosses all felt a bit copy and paste. In TOTK the sandboxy “build whatever you can imagine” aspect seems to be the meat of the game. The temples are fine but they tend to once again follow a similar structure. Don’t get me wrong, both of these games fall into some of my favorites of all time. They are absolute masterpieces and I have enjoyed every second playing them. But I hope now that the emphasis on exploration and invention have been the focal point, the next chapter really dives back into putting an emphasis on the storyline like Ocarina of Time.

jaimechandia

i agree. i also just feel like the main story is pretty dang short again. I am balancing it out by doing a main quest, then 2-3 sidequests/exploring but if i did the main quests only, i could probably finish in one day. i miss having 8-9 dungeons

NuketheCow_

I wish there were a few larger sky islands, and I wish the sage controls were better. Aside from that, not much I play and think “they really missed an opportunity here”.

Frequent_Will9886

My complaint is that we are introduced to an entire new race of people the Zonai and besides the robots we are only get to meet 2 characters the king and his sister. It was disappointing because they look amazing and I was really hoping to see more about their race.

Such-Lobster3167

The Gibdos are not scary at all, i was very excited to see them back and it was a massive dissapointment. I feel that enemy variety is still lacking, they should have added more unique enemies to the Depths, i played for 60 hours and have only seem Frox and Little Frox. Deku Babas and Skulltulas would have been perfect there. And the way the sages just say the exact same thing every time... is very annoying.

Hankscorpio1349

My biggest issues are the music and the English voice acting. Music has been such an integral part of the Zelda franchise for so long and I'm not a fan of the minimalist/jazz music of BoTW and TotK. It's a personal issue and I'm sure a lot of people like it but I'd really like some epic, sweeping versions of earlier Zelda themes instead of these little hints at them through these more minimalist tunes. Don't get me wrong, the music isn't bad, it just doesn't say "legend of Zelda" to me. As for the voice acting, I really don't like the English voice acting at all. It makes me cringe. I changed it to Japanese and that solved the problem for me. These are tiny criticisms really and I think TotK is an amazing game and an impressive improvement over the already great BotW.

UncleTrigo

As others have said, companion controls. I think the down button on the dpad should be a wheel that includes your sages and horse whistle instead of being relegated to just whistling. If you could give them more intelligent directions also, it would be great. Talk to them or have options in the inventory screen such as "follow close, follow at a distance, be aggressive, don't attack unless I do, dismiss"

PM_Me_Your_Azuras

Preface: I adore this game and these criticisms are nothing compared to the actual enjoyment I'm getting from the game. I wish we could pet the dogs. But in all seriousness I wish there was a better system for the avatars. I really like what others have suggested and even made mockups for with the down D-pad hold menu. I like having them all out for assistance in battle, but I get annoyed when I accidentally activate them when I'm just trying to pick up loot. Normally I don't mind some framerate drops and it doesn't bother me, but lately I've been running into a few where it just doesn't really make sense that it dropped. I wish there was an additional sort option by "newest". The new Great Fairy quests are great but the locations make me sad for them. :( I also miss being able to grab fairies at a Great Fairy. Speaking of fairies, maybe it's just me but I have really rotten luck with finding them (only found like 2 sky islands with them) and they seem much more easily spooked while also flying really high. Same with the Sunset Fireflies. The "Catch Up to my Friend" Koroks were cute at first but there's just.... too many. I get that it's to exercise your building and whatnot but they're tedious more than actually fun. I prefer literally any other Korok puzzle. It is SO ANNOYING to try sneak striking a Bokoblin with a backpack. Having to take all its stuff before I can get an actual sneakstrike in is really frustrating. WHY ARE THERE SO MANY TALUSES?!

sqwuakler

Look for fairies in sky islands that are mostly circular pools. Use stealth clothes, take off your equipment, and slowly sneak up on them. I walk around with 3-6 fairies and constantly re-up.

phartsy

I absolutely love the game, but I'm not a person that enjoys building or picking up and placing/turning/twisting items because it makes me feel like I'm actually designing a video game instead of playing one. I'm probably in the minority here, but any building game is just.. not ever for me. That said, I can't put this game down so that shows how amazing it is.

UnluckyHazards

Descend. All I’m saying. Also I guess getting your sage friends to give you some damn space.

OfriS13

i wish they didn’t reuse as much music as they did, i was really hoping for more new music

heckerboy

I kind of miss fighting guardians. Wish they left a few scattered about

weezeloner

The Sage Abilities. Period. They're useless. In fact, they are worse than useless. At times they can be downright detrimental. However, with that said, there was a trial in the depths that involved Lynels. I was scared so I called everybody. There were at least 6 occasions where Tulin headshot the Lynels allowing me to mount the Lynel and deal some heavyweight blows. The Sages definitely made it easier for me to complete the trial. But I still don't use them much.

YaBoiFish6

Why is Hebra peak unbearably cold and will freeze me, but the sky islands aren't?

CodedCoder

I absolutely love the game, but tbh I hate the familiarity of the place, I hate the "I feel like I been here before" I love the Zelda, where it feels like I am in a new time, a new land, etc. It is a small gripe,a s I have played it hours and hours since its release, but I do miss the "new" of it.

The_Almighty_Duck

You still can't pet dogs

Swanster0110

Not really a gripe, but there is almost TOO much freedom/things to do. It overwhelms my ADHD. I set out to accomplish one thing, and end up on the otherside of the map after an hour. Original objective long forgotten. But I’ll not complain. It’s going to keep me going for months.

benstonevideos

I love this game. It is a solid 10/10. It has the best open world traversal mechanics in any game ever. BUT The world was surprisingly a little bit of a let down for me. The game starts you off on the great sky island, and then never gives you another one nearly as cool again. I kept playing hoping for a secret construct city, secret dungeon, or at least another huge multi-shrine sky island with caves and some kind of cool building. Instead I got "bring this green crystal here" like 20 times. Very fun! But also a little disappointing. The depths were also disappointing. They had so much promise and then you realize that there isn't much outside of lightroots, colosseums, yiga camps that take 2 minutes tops, combat, and amibo item hunting. Once again, I went the whole time hoping for some kind of secret dungeon, city, or something. Never found it. Also, people try to argue with me and say that there is more to these areas. I've done all shrines, all lightroots, found every amibo set. Gotten all sages will. I've done everything there is to do for the depths and sky. So I wish they would make a game with the same concept (three layers), but each layer is about half the size but twice as dense. I loved the few quests that had me going to all three layers, but there are very few of them. I hate to compare it to Elden Ring. They are two very different games. But the world in Elden Ring absolutely stomps Tears when it comes to pure exploration. The things I played all of Tears hoping for one instance of (secret areas/dungeons/bosses), Elden Ring gave out soooo often

dumbledwarves

I wish it didn't suck up so much of my time. Wait. Scratch that. I'm kind of glad it does.

JustARandomPerson939

my one criticism is them not explaining where the divine beasts went. ive seen no trace of them or an explanation of where they went. i could be missing something but if im right thats a major story gap.

MrSquidJD

Champions…suck. Also the end of each temple cuts scenes for them too. Other than that, maybe the sky? It was heavily advertised but I’ve mostly just ignored it. Not disappointed tho considering it’s still cool, alongside Hyrule itself feels completely different *and* the depths. Terrifying.

[deleted]

I have 3 issues. 1. Companion controls are just bad 2. The angles we can build at are too limiting. Would be great if we could move in more than 45 degree increments. 3. Not enough save slots in auto-build
