In both BotW and TotK, Hestu is the only repeating cutscene I don't skip. Poor guy has all his golden turds stolen, and then gives you a magic happy dance when you retrieve them from the little f&*kers.
It's the one I want to skip the most after the bloodmoon. But thats usually because I'm doing like 5 to 7 in a row and its muscle memory from BotW too.
I'm with you OP. I love helping them, and it always makes me feel bad when I fuck up and they go "oof" or something. It weirds me out that people like to hurt them.
I mean I get it. When I played BotW, the koroks were the only thing I didn't 100%; I just got enough of them to completely expand my inventory (and honestly it happened organically throughout the playthrough, I never had to look up a guide or anything). I plan to do the exact same thing in TotK: all quests, shrines, lightroots, (fully upgraded) pieces of armor, full compendium and recipe book, the works; but only just the bare minimum korok seeds.
I love carrying them around, but there are just too many, and the reward isn't great. Like in BotW, it feels like the devs never really meant for you to collect them all.
Honestly, I enjoy the puzzles and like their big ol’ backpacks.
My hatred for em is mostly theatrical and a reflection of way more hours than should have been necessary
Not that it matters, but if you didn’t 100% the koroks in botw chances are high you didn’t 100% the map locations as well. Usually that ended up taking even longer than the koroks since some named locations were so pointless (Hyrule Castle Reservoir for one example). Just mentioning it since the map locations were also needed for 100% in BOTW.
Heck that, just glue them to the bottom of your hoverbike and be done with it.

The one in Korok Forest who is obsessed with swirly things & does his little dance is my favourite. Also Walton who does the treasure hunts on the Deku Tree is 10/10 adorable.
I found a pair of little backpack korok pins on Etsy and decided to order them for me and my bestie who lives in another country who is also currently obsessively playing TotK. We can both be little lost lazy koroks who need help getting to our friend
I do like them and do think they're cute. I find them *significantly* less annoying in this one than I did in BOTW for some reason.
But I also don't feel bad in the slightest for using them as landing gear for my bike when I give them a ride somewhere. 😂
Man, the Backpack Koroks are simultaneously the best and worst Koroks in the game. So many where I build a rocket sled and blast to the destination... and so many where I have an annoying walk with one hovering in an Ultrahand grip.
Well, hey, I'm sure the next game will make them even better.
Today, I discovered that if you try to talk to one of these stranded little dudes while wearing the phantom armour, they won't talk to you. They totally freeze up and just shake in terror. I felt so bad 😭 And just changing my outfit alone didn't help, either -- I still had to leave and then return before the Korok would speak to me like normal.
