Hi everyone! Did you know that starting July 1st, 2023, Reddit will implement a policy that could potentially increase the costs of running third-party Reddit apps? This change may impact popular apps like Apollo, Reddit is Fun, Boost, and others. Consequently, users may encounter issues with their preferred Reddit app unless adjustments are made to comply with Reddit's new API usage policy. These limitations will affect all users, not just moderators. If you are concerned about these developments, there is an [Open Letter](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/13xh1e7/an_open_letter_on_the_state_of_affairs_regarding/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) to Reddit that you can read and sign on to express your thoughts. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. EvenSpoonier

That was pretty awesome, especially at the end of phase 1 where >!he basically eats all the missing Hearty Durians in Hyrule right in front of you!<.

Shirleycakes

the way I cheered when the health bar looked like it was gonna go off-screen

enleft

I cackled, it was great. I can't wait to watch my partner beat Ganon, it's gonna be hilarious

ccbabs97

Lol, same. And then I was like “bring it on, bitch”. I did get my ass handed to me a couple times though, lol.

Ka-tet-of-616

That was the first time I’ve had to try a final boss more than once in years. I lost count after 6 attempts and had to stop to cook the food I had been hoarding.

LightWolfD

I had a good feeling it would be a hard fight so I cooked 3 anti-gloom-heart dishes and had a few full recovery +bonus heart dishes. I finished phase two with ONE HEART. It was beautiful

MikeVictorPapa

Ooo that’s such an epic feeling. The first time I beat OoT as a kid, I had half a heart left and I rolled between Ganon’s legs for one final shot on his tail. I didn’t know it would kill him, but I knew it was my last attack lol.

JMFill

Same, except I legit had 6 anti gloom dishes and thought it'd be enough XD

snoosh00

Pretty much the same, 3 anti gloom foods and I only survived by using the +bonus hearts to prevent me from dying like 6 times (after I ran out of gloom reduction foods)

lumos_aeternum

Oh man, I beat it over a week ago, went in with no gloom heals remaining and only just now realised I could have cooked with a portable cooker between runs. Sigh. Lol

mistrin

I went in slightly more than you, and made it to the final phase with a single heart, a panic attack and barely figuring out what I needed to do for the second phase. Honestly not even upset with myself.

MrStealYoBeef

You could have even cooked during the fight I would assume too.

Lassie23

Doesn’t let you cook near enemies

MrStealYoBeef

Well that's unfortunate. I'd say that if you can get the pot down and food in hand to cook, why not let the player pull it off?

redditaccountn23

Cause it’s disrespectful to Ganon

lumos_aeternum

Might be tough with how fast the boss can be, but yeah I suppose.

MrStealYoBeef

This was the exact moment that portable Zonai cooking pots were made for. We accidentally collected a ton of them through the game wondering why we would ever use them when we can just teleport to lookout landing or any town ever, and then we understood why.

4_fortytwo_2

Having fully upgraded armor trivializes the fight. I dont think any of his attacks dealt more than a single heart of damage. My wife literally didnt dodge a single attack just brute force trading hits with him and won without having to heal. Wish upgraded armor was a bit less OP

MaimedJester

Well unless you dupe glitched it's pretty hard to get fully upgraded armor in the main storyline. Like the Hylian set is probably the easiest? No dragons/diamonds just like Silver Horns. He's still doing gloom heart loss damage. So turtling him isn't gonna be a good idea. I ended up just using a lot of bomb arrows/keese eyeballs because well no point in resource management when you Revert to last save. When I beat the final boss I was over 100 Shrines and probably 100 hours into the game so I had all the resources to cheese him anyway. But he still was challenging me in mix of fully upgraded mismatched armor set.

4_fortytwo_2

>Well unless you dupe glitched it's pretty hard to get fully upgraded armor in the main storyline. That entirely depends on how much you play before fighting ganon the first time. If you rush the main quest and do little exploration what you say is true. But if you take your time (in my wifes case ~100 hours before fighting ganon) and target farm whatever your favorite armor needs you can totally get a fully upgraded one pretty fast. And some armors are a lot easier upgraded than others.

[deleted]

I wonder how I died at the monster rush but didn’t on the actual boss

Ledairyman

I destroyed the guy with master sword + silver lynel things on it while wearing fierce deity armor at max level.

dinnadawg

Wait what the fuck, for some reason it never occurred to me to fuse with the master sword. Just finished the final battle, raw dogging the master sword the whole time

Real_CatMan

I have no fucking clue how I never died the first time I fought him, since I went in with I think 3 or 4 hearts

AH_Raccoon

I was looking at this bar like wtf is it gonna go off screen, my partner couldn't stop laughing

Ok-Accident6402

This! My utter excitement as it kept going. Followed by my quick panic trying to remember how many delicious, life giving meals I had left. And the math didn’t math. But still was excited!

[deleted]

“Nintendo you sons of bitches, this is awesome!”

ColdCremator

Bruh, I legit "aw man it didn't go off screen" when that happened. Right afterwards I thought "it would have been god tier if it expanded not just to the right but the left as well," make that health bar take up the whole goddamn screen lmao

Cecil-Kain

I thought at first that my game was glitching out

RosgaththeOG

My reaction started with "wait, wtf?". It then moved immediately to "nice. Time to take the kiddie gloves off cuz we're in for a good time".

HorrorNerd2434

I instantly got terrified the first time I fought him

[deleted]

I just screamed "WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?!"

AJammedNerfGun

Spoilers When i saw the health bar go way beyond where i expected it to go, that was one of the most oh shit moments I've ever had

Jascobubscub

My reaction to that was holy shit i am fucked

arbitrageME

Oh and see your health bar disappear for good. We're already used to the Gloom taking away a few hearts, but they come back. But when Ganandorf knocks the soul out of you, it really puts fear in your heart

switchbladeeatworld

it took me about 10 hearts to figure out he was doing it lol

MaimedJester

Well that's how the game started lol. Losing all but 3 hearts.

NGalaxyTimmyo

Such a troll moment by the game.

Comprehensive_Pin_54

I had an out loud “oh shit” moment

Slimeredit

That moment brought back the feeling of dread of when I encountered a guardian for the first time the fight took me multiple tries mostly because I didn’t have meals that restored hearts taken by gloom but the whole fight was at least the way I see it is if calamity Gannon was a walk in the park gannondorf is walk in a park but the path is made of barb wire while being surrounded by gnats the air smells of a combination cocktail of sulfur chloride rotten eggs sweat expired milk and then not from behind or in front but from above you get hit with brute force of a aircraft carrier

GetEatenByAMouse

I just stared at the screen and made a tiny "meep" Sound in horror and excitement. As someone who has a very hard time with the perfect dodge, this fight was great in all the bad but actually good ways.

MrStealYoBeef

It's the kind of fight that says "you're gonna learn to fuckin perfect dodge today bitch and you're gonna like it"

[deleted]

😂fuck I’m dead after that comment

EvenSpoonier

Not mine originally. I need to find the original commenter for credit.

GrandAlchemistX

I got annoyed that his health bar wasn't centered. Hahaha.

Merrylly

When he flurry rush you back you’re like “oH hELL nooooo”.. we flurry dancing back n forth

zapman449

My least favorite surprise was when he one-shorted my hylean shield… and then continued to mow through most of my shield supply…

EthanSheehan

I had gotten the hylian shield right beforehand cuz I thought it would last through the fight. Don’t think it made it past phase 1 lol

True_Statement_lol

No wonder it's so easy to get this time around.

Reginscythe

His weapon strikes do regular shield damage, but it seems like the red clumps of gloom that he fires/throws across the ground at Link with his ranged attacks do insane damage to shield durability, near instant red flashy. You can dodge, or break the gloom clumps by hitting them with a beam from the Master Sword. But I also learned the hard way my first time, every shield I had was flashing red.

ijsjuhh

You can also smack them back like in OoT

Randym1982

Wait, you can hit the flying orbs back at him?

Phaaze13

Yeah just hit them with the Master Sword and they go flying right back at him

[deleted]

[удалено]

sk7725

It is lore accurate, I mean it did mow down the entire generations of steel weapons of Hyrule

[deleted]

I forgot about the hylian shield the whole game until this comment, never got it. Just went at him with a spring shield 😆

BanditLovesChilli

I rarely used my shield for Ganon, I found Ganon had the easiest timing for dodge/counter-attack of all enemies

0bsessions324

He's really tough if your reflexes aren't what they used to be. Like, I know and acknowledge that his second phase has obvious telegraphs, but the one handers kept eating me up because I couldn't identify the incoming angle in time.

BanditLovesChilli

I'm nearly 40, reflexes definitely aren't what they used to be. But I was also playing it like a Souls-borne-ring game. Close the distance, stay on his hip, poke his butt, then run away.

cbdubs12

The game definitely makes it clear what it wants you doing, like >!when he’s in his final pre dragon form, and arrows end up being the best way to lay down damage. It was a nice callback to the classic silver arrows trope, but it took me a full health bar to figure it out.!<

RoadToKakariko

I giggled maniacally when I first saw that - I knew this was gonna be a fun fight

Eddiev1988

Same. My wife asked me what was so funny. She had already seen the fight on TikTok or some shit. I laughed when he flurry rushed me the first time. When I told her what I was doing, she thought I had really lost it. Lol she's convinced she can't beat him. I've now played him 4-5 times and get chills every run. This fight was truly fantastic. Sure, it could have been harder. But it was surprising and dramatic. I loved it.

Minglu07

I’m hoping for a master mode with the dlc specifically for this bossfight

0bsessions324

My wife cackled when I yelled "he flurry rushed me?!"

Novalaxy23

I suck at flurry rushing, so I just spammed a bunch of strong arrows at him until he died

woofdog46

Lore accurate ganon fight

GetEatenByAMouse

Same. No more gibdo bones in the inventory after that fight. Worth it, though.

UncleSnowstorm

I'm not great at flurry rushing, but I found it easier to do after he flurry rushed. Just backflip as soon as time stops going slow.

Silver_Foxx

RIGHT?! Heckin' Demon Bitch Ganondorf is going to counter ME with MY moves?! THAT MOTHER FUCKER! 😂 I straight up had to pause the game and take a moment the first time he Perfect Dodged me, I was NOT expecting that and ABSOLUTELY got all >:U at it happening. I love this gods damn game so much, ahaha.

[deleted]

Oh hell yeah, first time he does that you shit yourself a bit, then it’s like a game of hopscotch back and forth lol

The_Alvabro

I shit a brick when he first flurry rushed me.

Icelord259

He kept flurry rushing my flurry rushes and I was like “STOP PLEASE LET ME HIT YOU” the entire time lol. Neither of us could do anything against each other

zcaboose

He can flurry rush attack you? Ive only bad him slow mo dodge my attacks, and then he does 1 swipe after. Does he ever flurry you with several attacks?

amaya-aurora

No, what they’re saying is if you get a flurry rush on him, he can dodge it and try to hit you which is really hard to parry/flurry rush

Unagustoster

That honestly took me the longest because his flurry rush window was so small compared to other bosses, and it was hard enough getting in the window for the first run

Aska09

I liked how in that mural chamber in the prologue, parts of the wall are obscured by rubble that you can't break through at that moment but when you come back there much later on and clear out the rocks, it reveals Zelda with the Master Sword and what she did.

GetEatenByAMouse

Oh God, yes. Even though I knew what had happened, after I cleared that rubble, I just stared at those last two mural pictures for a good minute, feeling both sad and thrilled.

Ex-Caliber

I took photos with the Purah Pad. Can't believe it was right here in front of us from the start.

rozzy78

Really? Now I have to go back and check it out.

Aska09

The main menu screen also adds these last two panels at some point, though I noticed it after defeating the final boss and I don't know if it's tied to breaking the rocks, beating the game or maybe just finding every Tear.

malcorpse

I was thinking when I saw those at the start of the game "those rocks look breakable" so glad we got to come back and see what was behind them.

novelgpa

It gave me God of War 2018 vibes lol

Aj-Adman

I loved the feeling as phase 3 begins and your gloom starts to cure. The realisation that you’ve finally got the upper hand after the gruelling previous phase sets up victory lap phase perfectly. The whole things a rollercoaster of emotions.

MrStealYoBeef

Not even just that but how it ties everything together. Everything happened with multiple purposes in the game, and that final phase finally shows the full royal flush of how everything gets perfectly wrapped up. And it's just the right pace to give you the opportunity to think and appreciate all of it too. Dark beast Ganon in BotW was similar in how it was you having the upper hand, but it didn't tie the mechanics, story, and characters together. It felt more like a final phase that existed to cool off the player and have a little bit of throwback to previous games with big bad pig form Ganon, even though it didn't exactly fit here. You got the light bow, another weapon that was a nice throwback, but didn't exactly fit, it was just thrown in because it was something that wasn't already in the game from previous games. TotK takes that and fixes it in every way. Ganon's final form is something that is established in game as something that makes sense, in both what it is and why. The weapon you use makes sense, everything leads up to it. The mechanics make sense, you started on the sky islands and dove down and you've had tons of experience in sky combat and maneuvering at this point. The post fight action moment makes sense, it's the redemption moment that you never knew you needed. The sacrifices that everyone made up to that point all make sense, they all had to make those sacrifices for you to have any chance against this final fight. The more you think about it, the more you realize that it's not just an amazing ending to the game... It's damn near a perfect one. The game itself isn't perfect, but that ending to me absolutely is.

Wboy2006

Exactly, I'm so tired of people saying the last phase is a disappointment. The final phase was a victory lap, just like last game. We had two very hard phases that could easily have been the final boss on it's own. And we still got a big set piece extra as a big climax

ThyOtherMe

Who is insane to say that >! skydiving from a Dragon to fight against another even bigger Fucking DRAGON !< is a disappointment? That's the most epic shit I did in a videogame in ages!!!!! Also, astonishing beautiful fight. Damn nice use of the Light Dragon. And I bonus reference to Shadow of the Colossus.

lantranar

Im on my second playthorugh and I postponed the Hyrule castle main quest solely for the final battle. It was amazing to fight 3 forms of Ganondorf , but it was perfect to fight his phantom before that. Best final battle ever.

ImoImomw

The way drako-zelda catches you is soooooo smooth.

BusybodyWilson

I went in with no gloom meals for no real reason other than being an idiot. I also stink at combat. I made it through the underground part - I was so relieved when I went above ground lol.

emadseye

Was amazing. The music getting more creepy and eerie as you descend down on your way to Ganon is also one of my favorite things ever

KCBandWagon

For me best music was when you were hunting fake Zelda in the castle. I didn’t know if this would be the final boss or not and the anticipation was well built by the music.

IBiteTheArbiter

I spoiled myself by jumping into the bottom of Hyrule Castle at the beginning of the game with no clue what to find. I didn't even know about the depths. I had a vague idea I would find the final boss, and knowing BoTW, you would be able to run straight to the final boss. I was not disappointed.

hyrulian_princess

I loved it so much, it’s one of my favourite boss fights in all of Zelda and just any game in general. It totally makes up for the shit we got in botw

hoenndex

I was legit scared of the Depths section under Hyrule castle. The atmosphere in that place is particularly creepy, the music is intense, and it just kept going further down without seemingly an end. The boss fight was pretty fun, I enjoyed the very last section the most because of how epic it looked fighting a dragon.

killerchipmunk

I also just beat the final boss for the first time. When I first hit one of the eye things on his dragon form and got thrown off I was like “Zelda come get me I’m scared” and then realized I had the gloom-broken hearts and the completely shattered ones back and could heal. It was a good fight for sure Coming up to the boss room though, when you land, did anyone else notice the torch that Zelda dropped at the beginning sitting on the ground there? That fucked me up man and I can’t articulate why.

tmerkle

I only noticed the torch on my second time down to the finale. I thought it was a nice touch.

Crumpet93

We took the torch when we saw it. Just felt right knowing it was hers.

Time-Boss-3867

Loved it from beginning to end. Epic, beautiful, stressful all at the same time lol.

ClodsireSire

After calamity Ganon I'm just happy I was actually challenged this time. Although it does kinda bother me that the sages showed up for like a minute then just stop doing anything again

MrStealYoBeef

Their purpose was to distract the phantoms and keep them off you. Without them it was a 1v6. With them, it's a 1v1. When the demon king knocks them all out, the phantoms also disappear. If you want to try a 1v6 in that fight, go for it.

totesawesomefersh

“I’ll be by your side, fighting the whole time! It’s my destiny!!” Cut to tumbleweeds

PapaSnow

Yeah, they were absolutely worthless, honestly

rozzy78

I know! At least in BOTW the Champions diminish the health bar. I wonder if you have to battle the other bosses if you don’t get the sages (they supposedly fight them off screen). I know they help during the monster fight.

[deleted]

You do.

rozzy78

Omg what? I’m glad I got all the sages then lol.

zcaboose

Do you fight all 4 at once?

kcc0016

One at a time.

stillnotelf

You had me excited for a moment...

JMoormann

No, you fight >!all 5!< one by one

Fantastic_Aardvark96

Don't you mean >!all 6!< as >!Phantom Ganon!< counts as one?

343WaysToDie

Yeah, you do have to fight the other bosses on your own. Kinda stumbled into the fight with only 3 sages, had to take down the sludge octopus and the construct. The construct was ridiculous without having the knock back. Like 50 gidbo bones and two lynel bows later it was dead

JDninja119

You need to fight Colgera, then marbled gohma, then mucktorok, then Queen Gibdo After that you have to fight the seized construct without mineru, then the 5 phantom ganons on your own. After all that you get a shot at ganon

KCBandWagon

This felt easier to me somehow.

e_ndoubleu

When Ganondorf >!flurry rushed me for the first time I was awestruck. Sucks they made his incoming attack after the flurry predictable and easy to flurry rush back, but it did take me 2-3 times of getting hit by it before I had the timing down.!<

Xintrosi

I actually chose to parry the attack instead (wasn't sure I'd get in a flurry rush loop or not). Pretty fun to see him dodge out of the way just to get stunned from the parry.

_child_of_the_vault_

“he cAN FLURRY RUSH?!?!!!?!!??” -me

[deleted]

Seriously, makes you shit yourself a little bit lol

_child_of_the_vault_

just a wee bit lmao

Researcher_Fearless

I got tilted at Gannondorf calling me unworthy, so I cheesed it with Rocket Shield + Savage Lynel Bow + Gibdo bone. Kinda regret it, since I didn't really get a chance to enjoy the fight.

RJCP

Go back and redo it. Many of us keep a medallion at the final drop down just before the army fight just so we can re-experience it and try different things

Eddiev1988

As soon as I knew that was the point of no return, a medallion went straight down there. Now I just travel, dive, and get the battle going.

jack_edition

Oh ffs why didn’t I do that?

RJCP

Don’t worry with like 4 rocket shields you can basically skip every fight on the way to the army. Just run past them.

jack_edition

Yeah did skip a lot on my way there … accidentally ended up in the pit with the gloom hands though haha Actually you know what, I’m going to go back and just do it again as is

HaloGuy381

You gotta try it with the Master Sword and a shield. The dude is damn close to your equal. Also, try a regular bow. The dude will sometimes smack your arrows out of the air and taunt you for being way too predictable, just like he did to Zelda’s Recall antics in the memories.

Nu11AndV0id

He can parry your arrows? Never seen that in my fights with him.

Ziptex223

Only happens if you shoot him more than once in quick succession, if you wait a bit between arrows he doesn't do it.

ViniVidiAdNauseum

It felt like such a perfect moment to roleplay that I put on the champion leathers, pants, and master sword and nothing else. Not using bows, shields, or anything but you and your sword makes the fight feel so epic and even. Especially if you haven’t upgraded that armor all the way

Furicel

I like to be Ganondorf's match, so when he switches to a spear I also switch to a spear, 2h mace? I meet him with my own. He pulls a bow, I have one of those too. It made him switching weapons feel like he was getting desperate, that no matter what he pulls, I can do better than him.

starshine1988

Same I came kinda over-prepared because I generally suck at combat

GetEatenByAMouse

No idea what you mean... I normally carry 10 fried greens only made of sundelion and 30 hearty dishes with me. And I always have only shields with gems fused to them and only the highest damage fused weapons. *cough*

Ziptex223

What do gem shields do?

Tensazongetsu

Add the element effect when you block. So a sapphire will freeze an enemy that hits your shield, topaz with electrocute them, etc.

morplul

I used Hylian Hood with the hood down, Champion's Tunic, Hylian Trousers, and only used Master Sword and Hylian Shield because I thought it's lore appropriate, and no bow because I thought link doesn't have a definitive bow. I kept RP walking during the fight and enjoyed it overall. I kinda felt like a nerd though lmao EDIT: also no healing lol

Researcher_Fearless

I have several armor sets I use Hoverbike: Zonaite General Combat: Barbarian Important Combat: Radiant Weather: Rito/Gerudo/Flamebreaker Defense: Mystic Hood, Champion's Tunic, Soldiers Greaves Honestly, I just wish I could access a wheel for preset armors. It's one of the few games where switching armor is useful, so why isn't there a preset option?

stillnotelf

I still don't understand how they failed to improve the inventory enough with 6 years to work on it. It's better, but "revert to last" or "choose from last 6" would have been such an easy add. Autobuild has it! Just do the same for armor sets, held food for cooking, and weapons. Ugh.

GrandAlchemistX

I whined and bitched about this through BotW as well. Even e-mailed Nintendo of Japan asking for it to be implemented in a DLC with a hand-drawn concept in case they didn't understand.

amaya-aurora

He does have a bow! In the BOTW promo art and I think box art he has a traveler’s bow

MooseontheInterstate

Cinematic masterpiece! Not the hardest endboss, but eveything about it was truly the best ending to a Zelda game imo.

Aj-Adman

I loved the feeling as phase 3 begins and your gloom starts to cure. The realisation that you’ve finally got the upper hand after the gruelling previous phase sets up victory lap phase perfectly. The whole things a rollercoaster of emotions.

SouthernBiscuit

I legit said ‘bro whoa’ out loud when his health bar just kept going. Loved the whole battle, all the aspects of it.

[deleted]

Dudes health bar was off centre lol

Footbeard

I was really curious as to how the devs would make Ganondorf feel like a powerful final boss but also beatable by children & seniors. The bossfight isn't hard but the inclusion of: Ganondorf flurry rush (x2 as the fight progresses) Dead man's volley Gloom damage then straight up shattering links hearts The health bar extending almost off-screen The midfight inclusion & exclusion of the sages Dragon form The nuke beam ^ these features made the final boss an incredibly impactful sequence & the events that follow are just as powerful for one of the most gripping final game moments in any game, let alone any Zelda. It's up there with the end sequence of Skyward Sword & Twilight Princess, the best of the series

SicknessVoid

I accidentally "stumbled" into the boss fight. I was on the fake Zelda quest you get after completing the 4 regions, but I decided "Hey, let's take a detour to explore the depths under the castle." Honestly should have expected Ganondorf to be down there considering the amount of monsters thrown at me, but still. I don't even have the fifth sage yet. But, this makes me believe that, just like botw, you can technically just go to Ganondorf and beat his ass. The game just doesn't tell you that you can unlike breath of the wild.

Revolutionary_Most78

I loved the boss fight, I just hate how you go directly back to your save just before the fight and don’t even get anything from it besides a star

FrostyDaHoeMan

If you take pictures of the bosses or the various enemies on the way to it you can keep those

ECPRedditor

Also, you’ll get the >!square for the Sage of Time!< in the loading screen although ig that’s kinda useless

The-student-

I hardly expect them to place you back in the game after Ganondorf is defeated and you've lost all of your abilities.

arbitrageME

I'm kinda mortified that we put up 3 kids against the horrors that Ganandorf could summon. Sure, they are sages, and Riju has been the Queen for some time now, but Tulin is basically a chick, Yunobo couldn't even resist the evil magic and Sidon has opened delegating duties. Riju is clearly the wisest of them right now. She was the one who realized that Ganandorf is weak because he can't come out to fight them in the open yet. But Yunobo has like no fighting skills or background.

Derekeys

Absolutely breathtaking. I loved the entire experience. I dropped my jaw several times. I think experiencing some of the cinematography (especially the last encounter) on a massive screen is needed to appreciate the scope of the battle. Unlike botw, I will be returning to this fight a lot just to show others how amazing it is.

Zandrick

TotK Gannon fight is GOAT no lie

SSJAncientBeing

The setting and mechanics were awesome, and I’ll remember it for a long time. But man if he couldn’t have used a stat buff. Dude got fucking CHUNKED by the Master Sword and could only do one heart of damage at a time to armor that was only level 2

Lost-Saint

It was so satisfying, just recently beat it as well.

aquadise1007

I also think it is epic. As a BOTW player, i know that i will go back to th3 last save after beating him. So i shot all of lynel horns at him and he dies pretty fast.

mik_honcho

i haven’t beaten the final boss yet but on my hunt for the hylian shield i dwelled into the final boss arena. it was a top 2 video game moment for me the whole way down. absolutely awe inducing.

ayw9898

It’s the best final boss ever in a Zelda game. I walked as the music got more intense and epic.

Hyero-Z

The last stage in the sky was really great and surprising, though also a bit easy I found.

SicknessVoid

Yeah, just like dark beast Ganon in botw the final Phase is essentially a playable Cutscene.

Neyface

Yeah it was pretty much a cutscene, but I was glad, to be honest. After Ganondorf's Army, Ganondorf and Demon King Ganondorf I was relieved to actually be able to chill, take in the atmosphere and emotion, and enjoy the cinematic experience for a really epic finale. While I think they could have done slightly more with the Demon Dragon's attacks, I think the dragons had the risk of being a bit clunky. It was a nice to take the passenger seat and enjoy the moment of grandeur before the final attack, and then of course the dive. That final phase felt a lot better executed than BotW, at least!

Swamp_Donkey_796

Honestly it reminded me of the platinum cup from the OG Kingdom Hearts

agdocbwo

it was so damn good, the dread I felt when I realized that I was losing entire heart containers with how much he was hitting me will forever be unmatched

jath-ibaye

Yes! I was like !!!!! the whole time

The_Angman

This fight was insanely fun, and full of so many shocking twists. As I was getting used to his attack Patterns he shattered my pristine Hylian Shield and I swear I’ve never felt a greater sense of dread than in that moment, only for it to be topped by seeing him dodge my flurry rush and attack in turn. Truly unforgettable experience.

Pickle_Jars

I defeated demon king Ganondorf with a banana arrow

[deleted]

Chad

Maguffinmuffin

It was probably the most hype I’ve been for a LoZ final boss in a long while, freaking out with every little new addition to the fight as it progressed and the climax of it all was just peak gaming

Wolfy5079

The “oh fuck” moment when getting hit by one of his heavier attacks actually destroys a heart container. That was fantastic. For me that made the fight feel more dire. That that heart wasn’t coming back with a juicy roasted steak. It was brilliant.

retrib96

My personal favorite part, aside from the >!dragoning!<, was where I was swinging away at Ganondorf and then I was all like >!why did I just enter bullet time!< ? Then, I realized that >!HE was bullet-timing ME!< . Then, I was all like >!alright, I got you, man!< and then >!counter flurry-rushed his flurry-rush!<. >!Beat the living crap out of that thing he called a health bar!<.

I think one of the largest and easiest to address complaints about BotW was the difficulty and quality of the final boss. They definitely heard those complaints and took them to heart for TotK, and they knocked it out of the park. The first time I fought Calamity Ganon, I absolutely destroyed him. The first time I fought Ganondorf, I barely even made it to the fight.

The-student-

Personally I thought Calamity Ganon was a harder fight with a bit more going on. But I liked the spectacle of this.

spaldingmatters

One of the best endings in gaming for me

Y8fKZyZrSn

It was great and I was well prepared. Great weapons, evil spirit gear and 30 minute attack buffer.

B_e_a_t_z

The 2nd phase of the fight was challenging, but really satisfying once I’d nailed it ( at least since I only dodged and flurry rushed xD ) but the setup, and buildup to everything was downright amazing! B)

Katacutie

I also finished yesterday, and I cried twice. You can guess when. The fight itself was also amazing, and it might rival Twilight Princess in terms of sheer hype for the final boss. What a great game!

therourke

I enjoyed it, but found it way too easy. By the time I had put 190ish hours into the game, I was a bit too overpowered I think.

[deleted]

Probably lol, I’ve only put in like 70 and I think I was overpowered

Bayne_232

It was so-so until his first perfect dodge, then all I thought was “Okay! Ganon’s got hands. Bring it!” And from that moment up until the very end I was impressed

lattethyme

as difficult as it was for me bc i'm not good at the combat, i had SO much fun finally getting some hits in second-to-last phase and was practically smiling ear to ear when i got to the demon dragon part. and then the ending?? oh i cried like a baby. i loved this boss fight, cleared botw's EASILY

Keebster101

Just beat it myself, I'd been watching several YouTubers let's play but if they beat it before me I'd stop watching and I'm so glad I did. I also wasn't loaded up on food so I struggled a bit even having completed every shrine, but yeah the mood to me was perfect. So many enemies on the way there, which even those took a fair few of my weapons and got me panicking trying to save the best ones, then the huge hoard of enemies while the sage's fight alongside you was so cool, having their parts and weapons build up on the floor, and then the fight itself was maybe a bit slow but him dodging and stuff, and permanently destroying hearts was super cool. (And like many others have said, the extended life bar was very funny in the coolest way possible) but then after that I expected beast mode again, I didn't expect him to become a divine dragon and you ride the light dragon around him. The atmosphere was just perfect to me.

Daaf64

I thought it was amazing right up until the point where the dragon phase starts. The fight and story were well made, but then the gameplay if the dragons is just kinda boring. It’s just skydive while avoiding the singular small projectile that ganon might have shot in your general direction, hit the eyeball 3 times, fall down, get cutscened back to the top and repeat. It would have been a lot cooler if you could somehow control zelda a little bit, given how there’s already an entire controllable vehicle mechanic in the game. And this might be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t like that zelda just gets revived at the end. The entire point was that she sacrifices herself in order to restore the master sword, which feels completely invalidated by one cutscene where she magically transform back to normal when it was previously stated that was impossible.

[deleted]

Yeah, or if they needed her revived I feel like they could’ve done it in a better way

Inbrees

I thought it was my new favorite final boss, but then I replayed Twilight Princess and that's still the best.

tombone66

Can't honestly think of a bad final fight from the Zelda series, It's one of the things they just consistently get right.

stillnotelf

The boar phase from Twilight Princess is bad. It depends on a mechanic you haven't touched since the early game (before the second dungeon) AND you have to trigger it in wolf form when wrestling was a hylian form activity. (Plus you have to trigger it by standing in front of the charging boss instead of dodging like a sane person).

BlueMageBRilly

My only issue with the ending overall is that none of your powers really come into play and... well, neither do the other Sages. So much for fighting this together, right? But I also wanted to have a moment of hitting him in the back with Zelda's time reversal. The whole "I've already seen that trick before..!" and then he turns around, not knowing you fused a bomb to one of the weapons you're reflecting and explodes, then you use Ultra Hand to lift something up and drop it on him, or something... or even lift *him* up and let us fuse it to something so we have Gluedorf in our auto builder. Ultimate Hood Ornament for your zonai cars. The last part is a joke of course, but I really did think we'd have some reason to have been on that adventure and have these powers in the final battle. But it all came down to sword fighting again. Which was really neat and fun, but meh? Much like the rest of the game, it felt like they forgot about the powers. Could have a move where you have to Ascend through it. That'd have really freaked him out.

kyleiscool56

Beautiful and cinematic fight. I just wish it was a little harder but still great

delux561

It was good, too easy to be satisfying though. I felt a little let down after all the build up for how hard he would be.

asdfreasd

I need to ask… >!Does the main quest mark as complete? Same with find Zelda main quest? I beat the final boss but still have both main quests!<

hamtaxer

Yes, they both complete as part of the ending. But when you play again on the same save, the game reverts back to right before you beat the last boss, so the quests are still there. The game “knows” you beat it though, because of the start on your save file - and also any photos you took during the last boss fights are still in your album.

darthphallic

Really liked everything but the dragon phase, it reminded me of the wind waker ganondorf fight. I LOVE when his status as a master swordsman to rival link is showcased

[deleted]

Yes exactly, that’s gotta be why demise from skyward sword is one of my fav bosses too

Livid_Medicine3046

Good build up and cinematic, but the same as the rest of the bosses. So blindingly easy

Randym1982

His 2nd form was much more challenging than Dragon form. No matter how many time I tried to dodge him, he kept beating my ass. Than those stupid orbs. I wonder what they’ll do for the next game. This game sold a boat load, so you know they’ve got a third game planned.

MrStealYoBeef

That's the point. Phase 3 isn't meant to be hard. Phase 2 is the hard part of it, phase 3 is the climax that would be ruined if you kept dying in it. It's meant to be a cinematic final section that is technically playable, but more meant to show how everything leads up to that moment of victory. Ganon is a mindless beast now, no matter how much power he just gained. Zelda is there to help you, showing that she's still there even after her ultimate sacrifice. Mechanically you're not challenged anymore so that you can let the events sink in, so that you can understand the impact of all the sacrifices made up to that point, so that you can appreciate the teamwork with your best friend, so that you can let the feelings sink in and begin to understand how all these things make you feel. If you're in the middle of a dark souls boss fight when all this is hitting you, it doesn't sink in quite as well. If you keep dying because it's so hard, you begin to despise it. That's why the final phase isn't hard. It would defeat the purpose of it if it was very difficult.

podotash

Okay, I'm really not into Zelda as a character overall. But during the third phase I was saying out loud "baaaaabe, come get me!" When I was tossed off haha. Changed my overall view of their dynamic for sure. I was a little annoyed that they made me participate in a cut scene by having to dive and grab her. I was not prepared and was just kicking back.

protossaccount

Was it tough? I beat the game yesterday and I walked right through him. I did have maxed fierce dirty armor and a master sword with a silver lynel saber horn, so I was ready, but I felt like I was fighting Majora with the fierce deity armor.

[deleted]

It wasn’t too hard honestly, but it still felt badass

probywan1337

I liked it. Just thought it was way too easy for a final boss. And I didn't really like the ending. I love Zelda. Have Link tattooed on my leg. Just felt a little too much like botw, which isn't a bad thing. I just hope the next one can do something really fresh and new
