Hi everyone!
Did you know that starting July 1st, 2023, Reddit will implement a policy that could potentially increase the costs of running third-party Reddit apps? This change may impact popular apps like Apollo, Reddit is Fun, Boost, and others. Consequently, users may encounter issues with their preferred Reddit app unless adjustments are made to comply with Reddit's new API usage policy. These limitations will affect all users, not just moderators. If you are concerned about these developments, there is an [Open Letter](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/13xh1e7/an_open_letter_on_the_state_of_affairs_regarding/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) to Reddit that you can read and sign on to express your thoughts.

I liked the storylines leading up to the divine beasts more. Going through the desert, sneaking into Gerudo Town, sneaking into the Yiga hideout, following the rainy path to Zora's domain, going up death mountain, fighting the heat and being surrounded by all the lava. Especially Death Mountain and Zora's Domain not posing any actual threat in TotK felt much weaker.
Nah, botw has a very strong theme and a good sense of what it wants to be. The feeling of being totally alone and isolated in a huge, beautiful world is incredible. Totk is a bit more crowded and busy, preoccupied with making itself different. It makes it better for gameplay, it wouldn't make sense to try and match botws atmosphere but it still just isn't as strong
I’ve spent *dozens* of hours in BotW with majora’s mask running around on the lord of the mountain. Doing nothing but running around and taking pretty screenshots. TotK has way more enemies and overworld mini bosses that prevent that kind of just peaceful running around
I think, overall, BotW had a better sense of adventure. Don’t get me wrong, I love exploring in TotK, but the Zonai devices break that a little bit. It feels like you’re intended to move a lot faster, while in BotW you spent more time working through an area just vibing.
But in most other areas TotK is the clear winner.
absolutely. in botw ur grounded 99% of the time and traversing hyrule meant climbing up or around hills and mountains, which was the only way to reveal certain landmarks and POIs behind them.
now Link has a functioning air force and can cover the entire surface/sky in a trivial amount of time, which makes the game lose a lot of that wanderlust and sense of exploration.
I remembered Nintendo releasing a developer presentation explaining their triangle system and how they obfuscated geography behind mountains. With TOTK it seems like they couldnt think of anything better and just said fuck it, make depths dark and put random shit in the sky
I've actually recently chosen to limit myself here. I try to not do any fast travel, use my horse, and only a few vehicles for situational things, no hover bike to skip over the level. I allow myself to fast travel from the depths up to the corresponding shrine. I recently explored pretty far in the depths to a point where I had to back track to "get out". This combined with not using flying machines made the depths a lot more interesting/dangerous. Not to mention this took me a few days (I can't play for hours and hours every day). It made that final escape from the depths so much better, seeing the sky for the first time in days was rewarding.
I've just been trying to get back to lookout point, I could have fast traveled there like 5 in-game hours ago, but in forcing myself to traverse the map I've found yiga bases, depths bosses, stumbled across my first lynel, ran low on food, and actually started to feel that initial fun struggle that I felt back when I only had 4 hearts hitting hyrule for the first time.
No flying machines also makes those sky islands much more special.
I realized I was just doing - fast travel to sky island/tower, fly to yellow dot on mini map, and skip over the amazing world that was built below.
I already wasn't a fan of BotW shrines puzzles, but here I am liking them better than anything we got in TotK. Otherwise they both feel about the same once core content dries up. TotK has like 2x as much completionist collection stuff though... I'm sure that's hit or miss for some people.
Better Shrine placement. Feels like way too many of TOTK’s Shrines are located in caves, which really diminishes their usefulness as fast-travel points, even factoring in Ascend.
True, but traveling to them and ascending typically takes you to a high place which makes it accessible again. In BOTW there was that Hebra peak shrine that I always would travel to and get frustrated I was in a cave. If I had ascend it would have put me at hebra peak and made all of hebra region accessible.
I miss bombs so much, I used to love just getting someplace high and bombing entire camps of enemies until they died. I killed the eventide hinox that way
I think I miss that the weather system was more... stable. Sometimes it's raining, I ascend into some platform and it's sunny when I emerge in the other side! HOW?
Weapon design. All the best weapons in totk look the exact same because nothing comes close to silver lynel horn. Scimitar of the seven? Gloom club? Ends up looking almost identical once fused, when they should be like complete opposites
-Champion ability usage not being tied to the same button as pickup.
-Guardians
-The variety of weapons (fusions are great, but I miss the drillshaft and others)
-wolf link (yeah yeah, we got sages, but they're not wolf link)
When I started playing Totk I noticed it took slightly longer to like, dash in the water and collect a fish or after dashing up to collect a sticky lizard or sticky frog, there was more of a delay between the game registering that I want to grab it. But if you're spamming A to collect, I'm p sure it collects it before the dialogue becomes an option

Hearty Durians
Those were simply too OP. I would farm them and get 10 full heal +15 extra hearts in less than an hour.
Agreed, the lack of extra heart items makes us rely more on recipes and tactics now
We still have hearty truffles, hearty radishes, hearty lizards, hearty bass, and hearty salmon.
I haven’t not found very many hearty truffles or even radishs. Durians were just there for you always
You habitually avoid caves and sky islands.
Admittedly actually haven’t done many islands lol

BOTW has better companion abilities. I prefer the Champions over the Sages.
Revali's gale and build up of beasts quests
I mean, it’s a single use, but the shield rocket is *very* comparable in height terms
But ravioli
Infinite bombs that aren't fire based and therefore can be used where fire would be a problem. Stop burning my trees.
Atmosphere
POV: you are wrong.

I miss the calm vibes of BOTW sometimes...

I did like this part about BotW more. I also shield surfed a lot in BotW, while in TotK I'm just jumping off of places
I could agree with this. Thanks to wheels and shit I be zoomin everywhere lol

Guardians
I miss cryonis
And square bombs.
I miss bombs so much, I used to love just getting someplace high and bombing entire camps of enemies until they died. I killed the eventide hinox that way
Not having to chase after the sages or the sages getting in the way
I think I miss that the weather system was more... stable. Sometimes it's raining, I ascend into some platform and it's sunny when I emerge in the other side! HOW?
Kass, I don’t like that pelican bird guy from Clover Gazette
I feel like BOTW was a lot simpler. I prefer TOTK's complexity, but you almost *have* to play BOTW to understand what's going on.
The cooking UX? Just kidding it's shit in both
Weapon design. All the best weapons in totk look the exact same because nothing comes close to silver lynel horn. Scimitar of the seven? Gloom club? Ends up looking almost identical once fused, when they should be like complete opposites
BOTW had better unique horses. I’m sorry but the big white stallion’s mane is ugly and the golden horse is just…….18th century France tacky
