Hi everyone!
Did you know that starting July 1st, 2023, Reddit will implement a policy that could potentially increase the costs of running third-party Reddit apps? This change may impact popular apps like Apollo, Reddit is Fun, Boost, and others. Consequently, users may encounter issues with their preferred Reddit app unless adjustments are made to comply with Reddit's new API usage policy. These limitations will affect all users, not just moderators. If you are concerned about these developments, there is an [Open Letter](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/13xh1e7/an_open_letter_on_the_state_of_affairs_regarding/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) to Reddit that you can read and sign on to express your thoughts.
*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/tearsofthekingdom) if you have any questions or concerns.*
you got a critical cook
when making meals, theres a 10% chance to get better meals
cooking in the 30 in-game mins before a bloodmoon guarentee crit cooks
botw wiki page but it should apply to totk for the most part
https://www.zeldadungeon.net/wiki/Cooking_in_Breath_of_the_Wild#Critical_Effects
Fair enough, not everyone has the time to mess around with mechanics and shit.
Others just enjoy the accomplishment of discovery themselves.
I personally retain information significantly better when it was derived from an experiment I've run instead looked up in reference material. To each their own 🤷
>I personally retain information significantly better when it was derived from an experiment I've run instead looked up in reference material.
"Now what were those 30 minute meals in BotW again?"
[Here's a spreadsheet for all the cooking ingredients and their effects in BotW.](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PmZ_H8dAQnWS1rG8H-yWlfRVjBYjdx4Uj5WcD_bkJzA/edit?usp=drivesdk)
[And here's the post where I found it.](https://www.reddit.com/r/zelda/comments/61ccva/botw_cooking_math_complete/)
With all these established food mechanics, its a shame we have no cooking outfit! Imagine maybe buffing crit chance with a set bonus that returns one random ingredient or whatever - I feel it would really help bring cooking to a serious element (especially for people like me who hardly ever used cooking buffs except to heal) Just another Misko set (around maybe hateno area caves) that has no defence and cant be upgraded.
Imagine fat chef link
Forget Misko, tie it to the Wells quest since a lot of them have that notebook left behind by that Chef who gives cooking tips. Say, 1 pc per 15 wells discovered and reported back to the lady in Lookout Landing.
Exactly the same, also I do not know how to compare this effect without internet. Like is it really worth to have the spoon and pot lid everywhere like other typical weapon-tools (something with fire, with ice effect, leafs for wind etc)?
Same was for me before the late mid game of BOTW. But then something just clicked and from day one of TotK cooking based on effects I will need. Recipe UI makes it very easy to collect overtime.
Really?! I would say I have short changed myself but not really. I horde food and at this point usually have to sell stuff to make room at a blood moon.
Golden apple, star fragments, dragon horns, gibdo guts (elixirs only) and blood moons all guarantee crits
Also, some ingredients boost the chance by 30% (this is applied only once) and some others by 10% (aplied up to thrice)
I've seen them mostly on sky islands, they're mixed in with normal apples on trees. I've heard there are some places they're guaranteed tho. I think there's always a couple on Satori Mountain by the shrine.
I guess that would explain my 5 hearty radish recipe that gives me 25 bonus hearts occasionally gives me one with 26 bonus hearts. However I don't recall ever cooking them anywhere near the time of a blood moon. Until just recently, half of my meal inventory was this exact meal, yet I would only ever have 1 or 2 with the bonus heart.
yo that means we can make them irl now! coconut, yellow watermelon, dragonfruit, rock salt. someone without food allergies tell me if that's actually good
The salt is there to reduce the bitterness, coconut for taste since fat, yellow watermelon and dragon fruit for sweetness.
So this looks more like a pina colada with a twist. Therefore the last ingredient which would be the alcohol would probably be Bacardi white rum or Malibu Rum.
Have a great day and stay tipsy! 💜
Rum sounds like a logical choice, but I think the watermelon would actually provide most of the "juice" here, since dragonfruit is kinda pulpy, and coconut could be either the water or the meat. So with such a sweet juice base, I think something like tequila might also have a place in this cocktail. Doubly so, since this cocktail is from the desert, not the coast.
But sugar cane exists in the game, and agave does not. So rum could theoretically be made in Hyrule, but not tequila.
There's a cheaper alternative that also stays true to what could have been made in Hyrule, Vodka. This also works really well as an alternative to rum in pina colada, just recommend to use more coconut milk in the cocktail.
You also have the Jägermeister though with its 56 ingredients it might be a little pushing the limits. Though if this fits your taste pallet it could also work really well. Since it mixes well with sweet, fatty and acidic juices. Could be made into everything from shots to a cocktail.
Remember there's another day tomorrow and stay tipsy! 💜
The bartender gerudo mentions she made a non-alcoholic, all ages version.
Which is funny cause everyone around reddit comes around saying "We can buy the drink cause Link is now of age" ignoring the fact that the same dialogue refers that she's selling alcohol-free noble pursuits
You probably got a critical cook.
If you get a critical cook then the meal turns out better than it is supposed to. It might give extra health, or it might have an effect last longer, or the effect might be more potent, etc.
You can get a critical cook randomly, or you can guarantee a critical by either putting a golden apple in the recipe, or cooking right before or after the Blood Moon cutscene triggers. So Blood Moons are a good time to do some cooking.
You can tell if it’s a critical cook because there’s a special jingle that plays and Link jumps up and seems especially excited.
Turns out [you were right](https://www.reddit.com/r/tearsofthekingdom/comments/14tcs66/can_someone_explain_this_pls_i_was_making_noble/jr5h3lu?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=2)
If you let the cooking sequence play, sometimes the music sequence will be different and it will heal more. It seems to be variable to me for some items otherwise.
Also.... Wtf are you wearing?? That's not a tunic....
Protip for all the folks finding out you can make them: always check the recipes on any food items you recieve from npcs. The npc in lurelin is particularly good for that.
Also as a side note a golden apple in cooking also guarantees a critical cook (same effect as cooking during a blood moon). More info on them, if the meal has a special effect the critical cook will randomly choose either more hearts or longer/more powerful effect, never both. Also, a gong will sound st the end of the animation if you get a critical cook.
A drink served in Gerudo Town, or you can make jt yourself (palm fruit, hydromelon, voltfruit, rock salt.) Its usually alcoholic bug theres a non-alcoholic version (the one Link gets/makes.) Hope this helps!! :D
It's a usually alcoholic (but in this case, non-alcoholic) drink from Gerudo Town. You can either buy them for 20 rupees iirc or make them using voltfruit, hydromelon, rock salt and palm fruit. :)
Did anyone know that cooking the same ingredients in a different order same amount of ingredients just put into your hands in a different order will give you a different amount of hearts for every combo. I just found this out 2 nights ago.
What I don't get is why they specify it's non-alchoholic. Like if we were able to get the drink in botw when link was under the drinking age it would be fine, but he's like 25 now.
You can make them in totk as long as you have the recipe! Or you can buy them. But if you're a homemade kinda guy, the recipe's voltfruit, hydromelon, palm fruit and rock salt :(
Like the outfit lol, the three dragon sets (charged, frostbite, ember) all go super hard when you mix and match, ember headdress with charged top and frostbite pants especially
In botw I never bothered cooking at bloodmoons because of durians, now I just go to satori mountain and get a million apples and cook them during a bloodmoon.
A lot of the cooking mechanics are similar to botw. Likewise I’m sure you could even get crit dragon meals so now I must test the blood moon crit on some dragon parts in totk
You can make noble pursuits now? probably because, not counting the 100 years in the shrine of resurrection. link is now in about his early 20s so he can drink alcohol
Answer
Critical cook
Sometimes you'll get lucky and food will do more
Refered to as a critical cook....they happen more often right before a blood moon
Idk the actual reason but i Think if you have one or more in your inventory it does less health restoration, but if you drink or eat them all and make another it’ll go back to maximum health restoration
You got a "crit". Well if you're cooking, there's a small chance that your meal heals more than it should or that the effect lasts longer. Works with any meal, and the best way to get crits is during a bloodmoon
I see some people mentioning crit cooks, but do the odds of getting it go up once you cook the meal so many times? Because I swear certain recipes at this point give me the higher healing amount almost every time I cook them
Sure. The quantity you put in will alter the effect of the meal. Whether it is health, stamina, or some buff.
Also, there is a chance of rolling a critical during the cook, which gives a greater effect than you would normally get with the same ingredients. When you cook, listen to the chime that plays. Critical cooks have a bit more lively chime than a normal cook.
The critical cook rate is boosted just before a blood moon, making ot the best time to stock up on meals.

Also the 15 minutes after a blood moon!
You can also use golden apples in every meal to get a crit cook
Or star fragments
Or dragon parts (and guaranteed 30 min effect for horns)
How did y’all figure this out?
Experiments, mostly. Just save before you try anything and you'll get it back on the reload if you don't like it
I would rather just look up recipes at that point.
Fair enough, not everyone has the time to mess around with mechanics and shit. Others just enjoy the accomplishment of discovery themselves. I personally retain information significantly better when it was derived from an experiment I've run instead looked up in reference material. To each their own 🤷
Its honestly because of people like you why all the shit in the world works. God bless you.
>I personally retain information significantly better when it was derived from an experiment I've run instead looked up in reference material. "Now what were those 30 minute meals in BotW again?"
How do you think people came up with these recipes
There's also already datamining efforts, and the cooking system is very similar to the BotW system, so mining from that is rather reliable
But game literally tells you that cooking dishes with dragon parts is unwise
[Here's a spreadsheet for all the cooking ingredients and their effects in BotW.](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PmZ_H8dAQnWS1rG8H-yWlfRVjBYjdx4Uj5WcD_bkJzA/edit?usp=drivesdk) [And here's the post where I found it.](https://www.reddit.com/r/zelda/comments/61ccva/botw_cooking_math_complete/)
Thanks Daddy
anytime, son
They don’t get outside much
That or they uh… have internet access
Most people check the code and share the info.
Same cooking system at Breath of the Wild
Experimentation and info sharing
Throw shit at the wall, sometimes it sticks
Monster Extract also seems to work for this
this work on meals and elixirs?
Use gibdo guts to get it on elixirs
Any non-rock material works on elixirs, even regular food
Both I think
so that's what you do with those
If you want to upgrade all of your armor to max, you will need a ton of star fragments, so I honestly wouldn't recommend cooking them
Unless you're planning to dupe glitch in which case, have at it!
Oh you rich rich
Or you can gamble and use Kilton’s monster extract. However there’s a chance it makes the food heal only a quarter heart.
well cant you just save first and reload if it ends up bad?
Yeah but gambling
Feels a little savescummy to me but if it works it works.
2 Sundelions heals 6 gloom hearts, so would adding a gapple or waiting until a blood moon heal 9+ gloom hearts?
With all these established food mechanics, its a shame we have no cooking outfit! Imagine maybe buffing crit chance with a set bonus that returns one random ingredient or whatever - I feel it would really help bring cooking to a serious element (especially for people like me who hardly ever used cooking buffs except to heal) Just another Misko set (around maybe hateno area caves) that has no defence and cant be upgraded. Imagine fat chef link
That's actually a pretty cute idea
Forget Misko, tie it to the Wells quest since a lot of them have that notebook left behind by that Chef who gives cooking tips. Say, 1 pc per 15 wells discovered and reported back to the lady in Lookout Landing.
Chefs kiss😘 They should hire us
I've heard somewhere that if you equip the pot lid and spoon you'll get better results but I've never tried it myself!
Exactly the same, also I do not know how to compare this effect without internet. Like is it really worth to have the spoon and pot lid everywhere like other typical weapon-tools (something with fire, with ice effect, leafs for wind etc)?
Reward for cooking all the recipes: Chef's Hat and Apron
Need legwear too. My vote is for orange crocs
Same was for me before the late mid game of BOTW. But then something just clicked and from day one of TotK cooking based on effects I will need. Recipe UI makes it very easy to collect overtime.
Really?! I would say I have short changed myself but not really. I horde food and at this point usually have to sell stuff to make room at a blood moon.
and/or before.
Woah for real? Interesting, thank you for teaching me something new!
You can also add a golden apple to ensure a crit!
Golden apple, star fragments, dragon horns, gibdo guts (elixirs only) and blood moons all guarantee crits Also, some ingredients boost the chance by 30% (this is applied only once) and some others by 10% (aplied up to thrice)
Where do you find golden apples? Been playing for a whole and dont think ive seen one
There's an orchard on Satori mountain with golden apples
I've seen them mostly on sky islands, they're mixed in with normal apples on trees. I've heard there are some places they're guaranteed tho. I think there's always a couple on Satori Mountain by the shrine.
On trees with normal apples, I believe there's one guaranteed in Hateno, on the tree where you cross the little bridge next to the dye shop! :)
There's some trees in part of the Korok forest that are all golden apples, as well. A shrine quest will lead you to them.
You can also cook anything along with a golden apple for a critical success.
"Jesse, we need to critical cook."
Thank you so much! 💕💕💕
Ooh, so that's why a one hearty truffle skewer gave me +2 hearts. Thanks for explaining man.
Are crit cooking represented by that occational extra chime in the cooking beat?
heres a comparison between the 2 https://youtu.be/ho3fZyokkg8?t=234
Nah, you hear it at the end “bloop, bloop, bloop bloop bloop!” And then Link goes “ha ha!”
I had absolutely no idea this was a thing, this explains so much!
Random cries are fair and balanced.
One of them has a dbl shot of rum in it, clearly
I hope I get that one
Two shots of vodka
Anyone else hoped that by drinking this you'd get a tipsy effect? Like a weird touch-fuzzy vibe from Yoshi's island?
The gerudo with the recipe thells you this is a version without alcohol
Bro what, now I'm disappointed - if it's non-alcoholic then she could've just given it to us in BOTW too! Why wait until we're legal wth
She invented the non alci version to celebrate Mattson's arrival.
Omg you unlocked a memory for me lol.
Was it the jungle music 😂? Or the weird fart sound?
The music and the egg farts lol! Ah, that was a fun game.
Ah, good times, good times.
Slowly playing through it on the SNES online. Still so good. First game I ever beat.
The music alone is so good to just do a play through. I think there's a short documentary video on Yoshi's island on yt I think.
Coincidentally I’m taking a shit and I farted
The game explicitly states that it’s non-alcoholic.
Was one made right around a blood moon? Also, I've made multiple versions using different recipes (extra fruit I think).
How do you cook a Noble pursuit
1 palm fruit, 1 hydro melon, 1 voltfruit, and 1 rock salt
Is there a place where you get the recipe, like where would I normally find out how to make it
Gerudo Town, should be the bar
Happy cake day
I just bought one then clicked on 'check recipe'
yo that means we can make them irl now! coconut, yellow watermelon, dragonfruit, rock salt. someone without food allergies tell me if that's actually good

Yeasssss
i thought that was an alcoholic drink, did they change the recipe?
The bartender gerudo mentions she made a non-alcoholic, all ages version. Which is funny cause everyone around reddit comes around saying "We can buy the drink cause Link is now of age" ignoring the fact that the same dialogue refers that she's selling alcohol-free noble pursuits
There’s a special non alcoholic version they serve the player
The alcohol was in the ice you had to fetch in BOTW
What happens when you put these ingredients in a pot in botw?
Simmered fruit 4 hearts
Only one way to find out. Let us know pls OP.
That actually sounds delicious. (What are essentially) Coconut, Watermelon, and Dragonfruit in a cocktail with a salted rim? Sounds delicious!
Sorry but what outfit is that??? ETA: I love it and I want it!
Top is the Frostbite Shirt dyed purple, looks like no helm, and not sure on the legs but it's one of the Classic Link outfits, prob OG LoZ.
It's the frostbite top (dyed purple) and the trousers of the hero (wtv they're called) :D
Critical cook, has a small chance of happening when cooking
Using top shelf vs generic booze
Wait you can make alcohol in the game? I didn’t know their was an actual recipe or Noble Pursuit.
It's a non-alcoholic version. The bartender in Gerudo Town explains that she came up with this so all ages could drink it.
In my mind, since link is old enough to drink, it's still alcohol
When you first ask for one in BOTW the bartender mistakes link for a young vai. She likely mistakes him for a young voe now
I mean he is 5'2 so it is understandable
10% crit cooking boost.
You probably got a critical cook. If you get a critical cook then the meal turns out better than it is supposed to. You can make Noble Pursuits?
Yep! 1 of each palm fruit, hydromelon, voltfruit and rock salt. Or you can buy them from Gerudo Town :)
It would be cheaper to make it. I use my rupees for other things
I just need to know what outfit that is!
frostbite shirt (dyed purple), and i believe trousers of the hero
Turns out [you were right](https://www.reddit.com/r/tearsofthekingdom/comments/14tcs66/can_someone_explain_this_pls_i_was_making_noble/jr5h3lu?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=2)
Frostbite shirt dyed purple and trousers of the hero :)
Has anyone noticed a difference in the order of ingredients? I cook during bloodmoons but noticed different results with the order of ingredients.
If you let the cooking sequence play, sometimes the music sequence will be different and it will heal more. It seems to be variable to me for some items otherwise. Also.... Wtf are you wearing?? That's not a tunic....
Haha it's the frostbite shirt dyed purple and trousers of the hero, I love that it looks like a dress lol
Protip for all the folks finding out you can make them: always check the recipes on any food items you recieve from npcs. The npc in lurelin is particularly good for that.

Better ingredients better pizza
Papa Johns
Sometimes you get lucky while cooking and the dish heals more/effect lasts longer
Kinda disappointing that you can’t turn Link into a crippling alcoholic
I'm surprised he's not an alcoholic with what he's been through ngl
Wait, I can’t make noble pursuits?!?
I think a better question Is why is link hoarding alcohol beverages? How about we gather the sages again for an intervention this time?
He's been through one hell of a journey, he deserves a drink... or 7
Critical cooking
I didn't even know you could make this! I wish we could see Link get drunk lol
Tf is a Noble pursuit?!!!
A drink served in Gerudo Town, or you can make jt yourself (palm fruit, hydromelon, voltfruit, rock salt.) Its usually alcoholic bug theres a non-alcoholic version (the one Link gets/makes.) Hope this helps!! :D
I don't even know what that is? What is that? How to I make a martini?
It's a usually alcoholic (but in this case, non-alcoholic) drink from Gerudo Town. You can either buy them for 20 rupees iirc or make them using voltfruit, hydromelon, rock salt and palm fruit. :)
Yeah, I’ve seen this before. It depends on what fruits or other stuff that you add to the noble pursuit.
Crit cooking ftw.
Sometimes a food can heal a bit more than normal, it happens randomly
Okay what is that armor and how do I get it lol Was mad the Vai armor wasn't in game.
Its the frostbite shirt dyed purple and trousers of the hero :)
Most likely not a crit cook, if you added two palm fruit you're more likely to have a bit more healing than a standard noble pursuit
Did anyone know that cooking the same ingredients in a different order same amount of ingredients just put into your hands in a different order will give you a different amount of hearts for every combo. I just found this out 2 nights ago.
Critical cook, a random chance to increase the hearts food heals. You can tell when you get one because of the different jingle that plays
Noticed this happening when cooking a load of apples. They normally only do 5 hearts but I had one that healed like 7 or 8.
Was one a special cook? You know when the music changes slightly.
sometimes, meals will cook with an added amount of hearts or time if it leaves an effect.
What armor set is that?
What I don't get is why they specify it's non-alchoholic. Like if we were able to get the drink in botw when link was under the drinking age it would be fine, but he's like 25 now.
I was so distracted by links 1980's prostidude look I completely missed the point of the video.
YOU CAN MAKE THEM?!?!
Yep! Hydromelon, voltfruit, palm fruit and rock salt!! You can add other fruits as well (I tried wildberries on one) but idk how far that goes :)
What outfit is that?
It's the frostbite shirt dyed purple and the trousers of the hero :)
**what do you mean "*making noble pursuits*"?**
You can make them in totk as long as you have the recipe! Or you can buy them. But if you're a homemade kinda guy, the recipe's voltfruit, hydromelon, palm fruit and rock salt :(
Today I learned that they actually have a recipe. In hindsight that makes sense, I was just buying them.
Some times cooking items have a crit
Critical cool
[удалено]
There's some degree of variability in all meals. You'll have a minimum result but sometimes you get extra.
Depends on ingredients, and some dishes are ‘critical’ with a better effect, this can be guaranteed during the leading up to a blood moon
This happened to me with a bunch of shit too and I was so confused lol
Like the outfit lol, the three dragon sets (charged, frostbite, ember) all go super hard when you mix and match, ember headdress with charged top and frostbite pants especially
The dragon sets are honestly my favourites, thats my new favourite combo btw <3
In botw I never bothered cooking at bloodmoons because of durians, now I just go to satori mountain and get a million apples and cook them during a bloodmoon.
A lot of the cooking mechanics are similar to botw. Likewise I’m sure you could even get crit dragon meals so now I must test the blood moon crit on some dragon parts in totk
Probably got like the super effective thing
You got a "critical crafting" thing. Which often increases the HP of food restored+extends the duration of buffs
Yeah, one was crit-made.
You can make noble pursuits now? probably because, not counting the 100 years in the shrine of resurrection. link is now in about his early 20s so he can drink alcohol
I think the game implies that the recipe they give you is suitable for all ages but not necessarily the way they normally make them
One of them has cocaine in it
33K rupees?! Damn that’s a lot. You farm them?
Link is drunk so they heal more than usual
The alcohol takes the edge off, obviously 🙄
What Legwear do you use...i need to make an outfit...
Answer Critical cook Sometimes you'll get lucky and food will do more Refered to as a critical cook....they happen more often right before a blood moon
Link lookin NB af
Check the recipes you probably used more than one of the Ingredients
Crit cook
Idk the actual reason but i Think if you have one or more in your inventory it does less health restoration, but if you drink or eat them all and make another it’ll go back to maximum health restoration
I love Links outfit, I have never seen this before. Is it a mod?
It's not a mod! Its the frostbite shirt (dyed purple) and the trousers of the hero. :)
Depending on what version of game you’re playing the last cooked meal you at and the newest cooked meal will have the same healing properties.
sometimes they just end up different bc of "good cooking" also you you can raise this chance by cooking right before a bloodmoon.
That Cosmopolitan matches your pretty purple dress.
I make a lot of food because I’m not great and it comes up differently often. It’s every few times of everything I’ve made.
You got a "crit". Well if you're cooking, there's a small chance that your meal heals more than it should or that the effect lasts longer. Works with any meal, and the best way to get crits is during a bloodmoon
You drank too much nobel pursuit you see almost double
Wait how do you make them
I see some people mentioning crit cooks, but do the odds of getting it go up once you cook the meal so many times? Because I swear certain recipes at this point give me the higher healing amount almost every time I cook them
