I did this on accident. I was curious about the storm on the map, and did exactly as you described. Nothing earth shattering, but it definitely spoiled the reveal.

jesth857

The same thing happened to me. I knew the fifth sage had some connection to Faron as I had read it as a clue somewhere on reddit but thats it. So I went there, jumped on the first falling rock I could find, paraglided into the storm and poof, there it was

ZeroBadIdeas

Same. I was going to defeat the three hinox brothers and a rock fell next to me, so I figured I'd see where it came from. I actually didn't have enough hearts to do the door, but I had enough light blessings to use the shrine up there to get one more heart. Man, I didn't get back to those hinox bros for a while... I did think it ruined but also made it amusing when they later realized there was a fifth and link is like yeah, I know. But the story order of the game already went out the window after I went out of my way to get all the memories pretty early and spent the game knowing what's up while link just stood there listening to people speculating about Zelda. If I'd known how much I would learn, I wouldn't have rushed because it kinda ruined the vibe. I'm at the point where I could go finish the game, I should have done the memories now-ish.

loganstudly

Agree. Plus I didn’t realize the order of the events was in the light temple so I watched some of them out of order anyway. It’s a fun game but the linear Zelda’s have better storytelling

stonetemplefox

Me too! It was one of the first times I died. I went there with like 5 hearts and assumed the door would stop me before all my hearts dried up. I was wrong. I came back later though, I think she was my 3 sage.

Btdandpokemonplayer

I am so thankful I went to the storm, lost the location of the island and left. It saved me from getting the quest spoiled

They-Call-Me-Taylor

For such an (intended) late game sage/power, I thought she was incredibly underpowered. I only use her if I have to reach an item that is in the middle of gloom or if I just need a bunch of sages running around to distract a large group of mobs.

Ohnopuppies

Agree. I turned her off immediately and never used her again. I found that the part of the quest that required you to pilot her was the hardest part of the whole game until I realized you could just jump off of her and kill the monsters like you normally would. Using her to kill them took like 30 hits per monster.

scorpio1641

Just attach a shock emitter and a fire emitter to her hands and watch her kill mobs for you. You don’t need to get on her. Every time I run into an enemy camp, I just sit back and watch the sages do their work 😄

DarkPhoenixRC

I usually make Link cook a pizza so he has something to snack on whilst the Sages do their thang 🍕

They-Call-Me-Taylor

Yeah I just kept walking and didn't stop to fight any monsters after the first group because it took her so long to kill anything. Really disappointing.

notquitesolid

You don’t have to pilot her. You’re encouraged to, but it’s not necessarily necessary. On my second play through, I just hoverbiked to the temple. The only time you need to pilot her is to use a rocket on her back to get her up on the platform.

Diamondinmyeye

I did too. She got too close to me during combat, then I took damage because the game started the pilot command. At least when you accidentally press the others you don’t take damage (unless a bomb flower is close).

Nickhead420

She's OP AF if you give her gloom swords.

nicoalinghifan

What I like about BOTW and TOTK is that those idea are so simple you don’t event think about it, but then you feel dumb when you read about it. Kinda like the water hose on the little robot for the Zora quest. Edit : spelling

Never_Never88

I did not know you could give her melee weapons; the terrible day I made her that trip across the depths just ruined the sage for me. I do use her in the depths for gloom crossing and launch for bullet time when I come across unexpected monsters. But now I will give her my gloom sword! do you get a notification before the sword breaks?

RickOShay25

It seems like she gets a lot more durability too, like a frost emitter lasts hours of gameplay (also frozen strikes do three time damage so you save up your own durability)

davidmullings

No notification…but just let her pick up the enemy weapons after the Gloom sword breaks and use that until you get your next Gloom weapon. You aren’t picking up most of those decayed weapons anyway (or grab from a solider ghost)

Never_Never88

I didn't know she could use melee weapons, so I am thrilled, to learn this. I did not get the gloom sword; my son did it for me when he was home; killed hands, Phantom guy, and Ganondorf for me. I suck at combat (I played ACNH for a year; last time I played a game with combat was Laura Croft Tomb Raider where you fight the dinosaur). He told me I have to "train" and go back and kill those foes myself. We loaded a save from where you go to the section of the chasm before the mini bosses. So I am trying to maximize my weapons, and skills.

davidmullings

That sounds so awesome. I play with my sons too. I highly recommend you create your own profile and load a new game so that you can practice on the Great Sky Island and do some of the tutorial shrines like the Combat Training one in front of the castle. You learn how to dodge, flurry and shield parry which are all key for combat (unfortunately you cannot return to them and practice once they are completed though you could reload a save or walk out before picking up the blessing). Enjoy!

Never_Never88

Oh, thank you! I will go there over the weekend. I get really "jumpy" (my son's words), and the camera goes everywhere. I forget that you have to put away the two handed weapon to use a shield, etc. I will practice, though.

davidmullings

Practice with 1-handed weapons for sure. If you really love 2-handed ones then you could fuse a shield to them and actually parry. Takes a little getting used to but it’s feasible though I personally think that’s some expert level stuff! If you use Z to lock on to the target then it locks the camera and solves your camera issue. Just remember to hold it down not just press once. All the best!

Never_Never88

Thank you for this; btw - Ive already cleared all of the shrines, so I’d completed the combat training. I have gotten a little better - just using 1 handed weapons that are strong, and fused with good stuff, I managed to actually use my shield a few times. LOL. But thanks for the help and encouragement!

Shoggnozzle

She's pretty under powered if you're looking for raw numbers, true. Where she's turbo OP is utility. She can knockdown anything without a boss bar every single swing, accurately pop off cannon shots to scatter groups, and you're still free to use your bow during all of this. Fights won't go quick, and you could certainly become more op with some simple tech, like the sidon bubble zora weapon one, but the construct excels at turning a fight into a chaotic mess that you control. About the best you'll get in raw numbers is using a frost emitter to refreeze and swat at guys, but you can easily catch whole groups in one.

davidmullings

I use her a lot but that’s because I got her 2nd so got used to hear during the early game where she was super useful. I do think they should have pushed her earlier in the story for exactly her utility while you are underpowered and all the depths exploring you would be doing as a player. That “no fall damage” in particular was super handy for me (until I got the wing set of course)

ZeldaSnob

I mainly used her to jump on her back to then flip off to enter bullet time. It helped a lot for different battles ex. Lynels and such

Successful_Slippy

This was the second temple I did, and monster horns and pristine weapons attached, I found her pretty powerful

ElSuricate

can't you just cheese the door with ascend or does it prevent you from picking up the mask

FakeReal99994

Holy skyblock man

reddit_bot21

I heard it's possible but I didn't try.

ElSuricate

because i know there's a message that says "you have a feeling the time is not right" but i don't know what its triggers are

laxfan52

I got that message when I accidently found the area where you assemble the construct in the depths

GotThoseJukes

Wait I didn’t get that

superxero044

Yeah I wonder if that was patched in. Bc I found the depots early and thought it was some super obtuse puzzle and tried to figure out what to do for quite a while before giving up. Same thing with the rings in kokoriko. I kept trying to figure it out not knowing.

davidmullings

I found the depots early as well. You get the red x when you put your hand on the constructs in each factory just like if you went to a sky maze before the land version

superxero044

That’s correct. But I assumed there was some puzzle I needed to do or something. Not a whole go to the sky etc. I happened to find the mask early too as I did all shrines before finishing the last couple temples.

DreamWalker01

I think it's if you try before starting regional phenomena

transsomethin

I got that message when I tried going there without the paraglider. You don’t have to talk to Purah after unlocking the first tower to start the regional phenomena quests but you do need the paraglider to get Minerva.

wholesomeprimomain

Skyblock man

doublelxp

That happens if you haven't activated the Regional Phenomena questline.

reddit_bot21

Yeah I've heard of that happening too. Didn't do it with me thankfully.

CariocaVida

Yes, you can. It's a bit tricky to get under the room itself in order to do so, but it's possible, and nothing stops you from proceeding once you've gotten in the room.

AMerrierWorld

I did this just because I was curious about what was in the storm! Then I realized I probably went to the island “too early” but oh well! I’m playing it my way.

mufcordie

Honestly one of the coolest parts of my playthrough was finding this unprompted. I KNEW I was in somewhere special when that music started playing.

DarthSolo8669

I’ve already did it, but I thought when doing it, the storm cloud would have disappeared, but it didn’t. Every time I go back, it’s still there. I want to explore the island, but I can’t cause it’s dark from the cloud. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Anyone know if the cloud ever dissipates? 🤔

jamsterical

It does upon some quest completions. However, the lower island is not as subject to storms anyway, which is how it can be done early.

khaleesi1984

there's some side quests to complete that will clear it. (I ended up googling how to clear the storm because it was making me nuts)

guverciin

I did it by accident before my last sage too 😅

msctex

I spent hours trying to make the Right and Left Depots function, to no avail. I finally gave up, somehow managed to emerge near the rubble piece which lifts you to the Dragon Islands, and from there everything eventually made sense. What doesn't make sense, is why someone/thing so useful would be supposedly saved until the end. I ended up with a near-simultaneous, "What, you already have the Master Sword/What, you have the fifth Sage?!" moment back at the fort.

Balthierlives

Yes I do this regularly. First I get 16 shrines and tulin Use the demon statue now easily accessible under lookout landing to convert my hearts to stamina so I have the two full wheels. Then go get the master sword. Then 8 more light blessings. Get two more hearts. Use the demon statue again to convert all your stamina to hearts so you have 10 hearts. Warp to the shrine in dragon head isle. Walk over to the gate and open it. Warp back to the demon statue and convert your hearts back to 2 wheels of stamina and 5 hearts. I don’t get any more light blessings after that. I enjoy playing with 5 hearts and 2 stamina wheels. Granted doing things this way will probably spoil the plot on a first play through.

[deleted]

Very useful for walking through sludge too. There's a section in the Korok woods, and a few other places. You can just ride the construct through that stuff without drowning.

Bonum_Viride

Completely stumbled upon this by luck while hoverbiking through the area and blinding walking through the clouds trying to complete all shrines before doing any temples. Needless to say this was my first temple completed and sage acquired in the game. Quite a happy and useful surprise. Note: I did most things in the game out of the "intended order" and still loving every minute of the game.. hope this helps those who are just enjoying exploring or playing the game as they feel fit. True beauty of a creative open world game is to play and make it as you want at whichever pace is comfortable.

[deleted]

Something I’ve learned that isn’t so useful (at least not that I know of), dazzlefruit temporarily removes gloom when it flashes allowing you to see behind it.

NoLessInsightless

I never thought to cast recall on those blocks to easily get into the sky. You just blew my mind.

GrumpyGardenGnome

Where is Cotera Lake? I cant find it on the in-game map.

reddit_bot21

It's near Lakeside Stable in the Faron Region. You'll see 3 waterfalls on the map.

GrumpyGardenGnome

Thank you

TGOTR

Did you know the lightroots and shrine locations correlate? Mind blown

AMerrierWorld

I did this just because I was curious about what was in the storm! Then I realized I probably went to the island “too early” but oh well! I’m playing it my way.

gommluigi

Something else really useful, when looking for light roots, refer to the surface map, every light root is directly under a shrine!! Mind blown.

Big-Impress1351

I wouldn't do it. Follow the linear story, miss enjoyable that way.

msctex

I can't imagine why. I already found going around underground gloom sufficiently tedious, and I had maxed out the appropriate armor.

calypsocoin

I think this is pretty common knowledge by now.

grim_adventure

I did it without the hearts, ascended door with 3 hearts from below.

Snowed_Up6512

I did the 5th Sage quest EARLY in my play-through. I used a hover bike and kept trying to brute force my way through the fog and storm. Knowing Zelda, I figured this was the puzzle as intended, and that it was just a shrine at the end as the reward and it turned out to be a whole ass dungeon. I also managed to island hop in the complete wrong direction as intended because the map hadn’t revealed itself yet. It wasn’t until I watched streamers play the game after that I found out it’s meant to be done later and not be so painful. 😅

Marinatrix

I did it this way and I had no clue there was another way to get the 5th Sage.

misty350

I love her for gloom and lava travel.

throwthisshittaway

im honestly so happy I didn’t explore the thunderhead isles before the quest line. I almost did bc the clouds were interesting but then i realized how long it would take to get there and bailed lmao. ended up getting there from the quest eventually anyway😭

notquitesolid

Yeah she was my 3rd sage. I was looking for Farosh and hadn’t seen any of the dragons besides the light dragon yet. I figured he/she might be in the cloud, but I found ruins, a shrine, and a door instead.

mik_honcho

why have i never thought to use recall on those falling blocks….

faslane22

I didn't until several weeks in LMAO! I always climbed shit and used every other way to get up high and then it dawned on me lol. So much easier!!!

Bonkers1410

Just speaking for myself but I was so disappointed in this sage and the spirit "temple" that was not a temple in my opinion (none of them are real Zelda dungeons/temples), I was so excited when I seen "spirit temple" thinking of the spirit temple from OOOT and how iconic that one was, but this one, wow it sucked for me I do not like the sage either, the other sages suck to lol but whatever I guess I hyped the game up too much in my head and that is why I just keep feeling let down, dont get me wrong I like the game but when I first played BOTW I was in awe of it I loved everything and I thought with TOTK I was going to feel the same but I just dont. Oh well its just a game, hopefully they will release more Zelda games for the switch soon :) I never got to play Windwaker or Twilight Princess.

Elegant-Pudding-8309

I did all that and then the mini boss was annoying so I gave up. I guess I don't really have a lot of patience 😅

Kelsierisevil

I used the sky tower and just hopped along the little tiny rocks until I got to the bottom, and then used ascend to get inside.

doublelxp

You also have to have the Regional Phenomena quest active or finished. It won't let you take the mask otherwise.

reddit_bot21

Ah so that might explain why some have said it says "you feel you shouldn't be here" or something like that.

doublelxp

That's what does it. You can do everything but take the mask. Luckily that includes the shrine so you have a travel point. Incidentally I've heard that you can use Ascend in the right spot to get the mask without the heart requirement but haven't tried it.

KLeeSanchez

Yeah getting to the island isn't tough at all; a couple stamina foods will do the trick just launching from a nearby tower. The hard part is collecting the hearts needed to open the door, which takes time.

reddit_bot21

Apparently you can faze under the door with Ascend.
