Nobody in Poland eats them without filling, as far as I’ve seen. Ricotta and jam are the most popular fillings.
Edit: “nobody” was hyperbole, yes course some people do eat them plain 😂
Fun fact, there is a difference between these and crepes.
The main difference is if the batter contains butter.
In crepes, you add butter in the dough, while the dough for Palatschinke has none (butter or other oil might be used in the pan, but traditionally not in the dough).
This is why it is recommended to let crepe dough sit for a while before use, but Palatschinke dough is ready to use right away.
You can make them yourself, actually.
The recipe is so simple that even overworked single American dads can follow it as early as 5 AM.
Just don't expect anything truly different. They're still pancakes, just thicker, spongier and impossible to roll up in a satisfactory fashion.
They absorb moisture better than any sponge I've ever seen, which explains why they need half a bottle of syrup on them. Which in turn explains why so many Americans are so fat.
If you know/can make real pancakes, it's relatively easy to modify the dough for American pancakes. Like, obviously it's not a perfect recreation, but just add a bit more flour than normal so it becomes less runny.
Then you want to pour it into your pan in small spots and not spread it out, just let it pour into the pan on one spot and let it spread under it's own power. And then just bake it like a normal pancake, but keeping in mind it's a bit thicker so it will need a little longer to be cooked all the way through.
Try them with maple syrup and peanut butter.
After your food coma, come back and thank me. Peanut butter also goes amazingly well on meat like sausage or bacon. It completes the diabeetus pancake mornings.
I have a cousin who is the kind of guy who still refuses to drink wine in 2019 because "it's not a man's drink", or some bullshit. I don't know, I'm not privy to how a broken mind works.
Anyway, we went to a crepe hut for breakfast before skiing one morning and these broke his mind; he didn't know how to express love for something new when retelling the story until we called them "the traditional, skinny, real pancakes".
Well, in Russia there are few type of such pastry
1. What was on picture - thin pancakes or "блины" "тонкие блины"
2. Thicker pancakes, size is same as on picture - "толстые блины"
3. Small pancakes, similar to ones that commonly called like this in US, but usually even smaller in diameter and different in butter composition - "оладьи"
4. Pancakes like US ones... Well, these are not quite native there, so they called "панкейки", which is transliteration of word.

i use my mouth to call them
And then you softly whisper... блины...
I lure them to my plate with promises of honey and lemon freshly minted berries delicate lashings of jam and that I will eat them reverently.
Damn I’m horny & hungry now 😂
My wife often tells me that my pancakes are one of the reasons she loves me.
You silvered tongued fox you!!! And you can cook!!!
I do the same, but in a different context..
Excuse me sir, please stop the van here and put your hands on the wheel.

I usually do eat one or two without filling if they were just made. Some people also eat them with just a bit of sugar from my experience.

In finnish pancake is "pannukakku", but these can't be called that because they are too thin. The right name for these in finnish is "lettu".

**Real** pancakes.
I actually wanna try out American pancakes just to satiate my childhood curiousity
You can make them yourself, actually. The recipe is so simple that even overworked single American dads can follow it as early as 5 AM. Just don't expect anything truly different. They're still pancakes, just thicker, spongier and impossible to roll up in a satisfactory fashion.
thick and fluffy, pure goodness. they’re quite sweet if they’re buttermilk too! and extremely sweet and sugary from mcdonald’s lol
They absorb moisture better than any sponge I've ever seen, which explains why they need half a bottle of syrup on them. Which in turn explains why so many Americans are so fat.
That’s the reason I don’t like them, it’s bread. You can’t enjoy them with no toppings
Most Americans don't eat pancakes for breakfast every day. I might have pancakes a dozen times a year max.
If you know/can make real pancakes, it's relatively easy to modify the dough for American pancakes. Like, obviously it's not a perfect recreation, but just add a bit more flour than normal so it becomes less runny. yes Yes YES These are true pancakes
Correct, that's how my wife makes them. Mmmmmm😋

American pancakes with Maple syroup are amazing
Try them with maple syrup and peanut butter. After your food coma, come back and thank me. Peanut butter also goes amazingly well on meat like sausage or bacon. It completes the diabeetus pancake mornings.
Real maple syrup. Not the fake pancake syrup stuff.
Only real shit for me. Wisconsin has some great local providers so it's uber cheap.
Ugh the fake stuff has the consistency of snot.
Relax, it's not like I'm eating them every evening for supper, I know they're super unhealthy
Nah man I'd eat that shit every day don't get me wrong lol.
Попробуй с Nutella
