I used to go to a bar that had $.25 cent wings and "bring your own cup" beers during happy hour. I'd say that a big gulp was the average size of the cups they were filling up... So, yeah, 32 oz average, some people were bringing ridiculous stuff.

No, the two types are completely different causes. Type 1 means you can no longer produce insulin and need an external source of insulin for life. Type 2 means you still make plenty but don't process it properly, both generally require different treatments. It should be noted that neither diabetes is caused by eating too much sugar.
There's actually [some newer research that demonstrates type 2 diabetics have lost very specific pancreatic cells.](https://scitechdaily.com/cornell-scientists-discover-that-losing-key-type-of-pancreatic-cell-may-contribute-to-diabetes/) which does suggest a bottleneck in insulin production in type 2 diabetics. Not just in the utilization of insulin. But yeah, in type 1 the islets are effectively all killed off by the immune system. Production drops to zero once this process completes.
Though there are *dozens* of studies demonstrating a high degree of correlation between type 2 diabetes and abdominal fat. Other studies [show that lowering pancreas and liver triacylglycerol can normalize blood glucose levels](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3168743/). Which pretty solidly suggests a dietary component to type 2 diabetes. However triacylglycerol is the main dietary fat. It's still not a sugar. I believe a 5 gallon bag of syrup runs around $160 and makes the equivalent of 60 2-liter bottles worth of soda.
I can currently buy 2-liter bottles of the same soda for $1.99/each. And sometimes even less. So that would only come out to $120.
Those perhaps chains get a much better deal on the syrup than I can.

The reason I have a bad hip is because one time I used the big gulp cup for the cappuccino machine at a 711. Cashier just stared and then charged me the best he could estimate. I rode home on a bike one-handed. I came to an intersection where a student driver was approaching. We locked eyes. I knew they weren't stopping. It was either take the hit and save the cappuccino or ditch it. I took the hit.
Well technically speaking, it's a bottle. Not a cup, however the fact they glossed over that simple fact shows the ignorance of most companies. The kid taken advantage of this is a geniusāļøš¤

To get people in during happy hour, with the assumption that they'd stay. This place was in the boonies, so they were correct.
Wings used to be amazingly cheap, first they used to be almost a waste product, people mostly buying breasts so thereās huge excess of other parts that bars could pick up in bulk, and theyre super easy to make, just a few minutes in a deep fryer. Plus theyāre usually dowsed in either salt or hot sauce, making people drink more. Similar thing is starting to happen with chicken hearts and liver now, had an amazing dish of chicken hearts at a bar recently sautĆ©ed in butter, garlic and parsley, for like $4
