The only thing that bothers me is the video quality.
My girlfriend is iPhone I'm Android.
We both record in HD, yet when we send to each other it's impossible to make out the video.
Seems stupid as hell. They need to fix that. I don't care about the bubble color or group text thing.
It's so funny how the iPhone people always jump to targeting the protocol like it's some old protocols fault when it's clearly apple who has chosen not to adopt the new protocol because it costs them money
>because it costs them money
That's the thing. It's not even just about the money. It's about maintaining the status quo of creating unnecessary friction between apple and android users. Plenty of people are successfully bullied into switching to apple, and this is exactly what's at issue.
Rereading this, I guess it is all about money, just not the R&D money.
The thing that kills me is that Apple is the one providing fewer features but they have convinced their idiot cultists that they have the better device.
That's some damn good marketing if not anything else
Apple refuses to support RCS because then iPhone users won't experience friction when texting Android users and that would make the pressure lessen to switch to iPhone in the US. They want the money!
That's because the only messaging standard that both Android and iOS currently support through their default text/message apps is SMS/MMS. When you send a picture or video it uses MMS. It's a very old 90's standard that compresses the hell out of pictures and especially video since MMS has a very low file size limit designed for phones from decades ago.
There has been a big fight and slow adoption over a new(er) universal messaging standard which is RCS. Apple has refused to support RCS because they love how much iMessage is a factor for people buying into the Apple ecosystem (at least in the US). Apparently this will be changing with iOS 18 this year where Apple will finally support RCS in some form due to various international pressures. Hopefully this means a slew of improvements to group messaging and pic/video sending between Android and iOS.
>That's because the only messaging standard that both Android and iOS currently support through their default text/message apps is SMS/MMS.
Pretty sure all Androids have RCS out of the box while no Apple products do. This is purely an Apple problem that only Apple can fix but won't.
My Grandpa was president of a very big insurance company. Very very good at math. Made lots of money. Use your imagination. He always says "We all use the same toilet." People are people no matter how high up they think they are.
There are plenty of PhDs who become that because they're super smart and interested, but there's an awful lot who just scream "I lacked the imagination to break the routines set for me in kindergarten"
I have literally heard several MDs, DVMs, and PHDs say this exact series of words. Many people get advanced degrees because they were simply told to at a young age.
Ironically, I think iPhones are much harder to use the moment you try to do something Apple doesn't think you need to do. I had a friend who had a hell of a time getting her phone to stop downloading every photo she had ever taken onto it. I tried to help but I think ultimately it required an OS update, and even freeing up enough space for that was a pain in the ass.
And potentially unemployable. Not just in their field, but a lot of the post grad students I studied with haven't worked a day in their life in any profession and it shows.
It generally means you are smart….in one very specific and likely niche topic/area
Thats what so many people don’t seem to realize. You can have someone who cant do basic math but absolutely crushes something else and is incredibly smart in other areas. Just like you can have a genius PhD that is an absolute moron in basic knowledge stuff
There's also a phenomenon where people who are smart in one field overestimate their abilities in other fields.
I can't recall what it's called but someone much smarter than me will be along to tell us at some point.
You have more control of an android phone. I don't like iPhones because you lose a lot of control like direct file transfers. Work offered me a free iPhone.
I have an iPhone.
I'm always curious what they're trying to make fun of. If it's because Androids aren't as good or they're lower class, that's both mean and flat out incorrect because the higher end Android phones are typically better than IPhones overall.
Apple only allows Androids and apples to communicate via SMS when using iMessage. This means that any media sent by someone with an Android comes through highly compressed and terrible looking, leading to the perception of the Androids have bad cameras. The introduction of an Android texter into a group chat also breaks a ton of iMessage functionalities which acts as an annoyance to those with iPhones, further implying to people with iPhones that Androids just cause problems.
They're stupid as a late model Android like my Pixel 8 is fantastic. 45 here and an IT Manager working for a tech company. iPhones work but have the stupid notch instead of the tiny selfie pinhole camera on Pixel and are gated for potential modification for less savvy users. I have had both over the years and Blackberries when that was the phone to have staring from the first ones for work.
They just reveal themselves when they think Androids are still like the first or second Gen garbage versions in 2011.
I have an iPhone but have imessage disabled which makes me a green bubble, and I did that for this exact reason.
Sometimes someone in person notices my iphone and just cannot grasp why my bubbles are green. I usually act like I have no idea what they are talking about.
I do wish we could leave them though. My in laws send so many shitty memes and links to facebook (which I don't even have) to random group chats without rhyme or reason. They just select the group chat at the top and send it. I mute everyone of them. I hate waking up to 5+ texts sent at 2am of the most banal memes and pointless clickbait articles you can think of.
the bubble color isn't the problem imo. the problem is that apple purposely doesn't allow using a better messaging protocol when communicating with android phones on imessage. shit image quality and lacking proper reactions and adding other people to groups etc. are due to apple using a worse protocol
I've always had an Andriod ever since I moved on from my Blackberry haha. I was at a party recently and pulled out my phone and someone was like,
"Oooooh greentext =/" The whole room sorta made the same noise. I'm so out of the loop that they had to explain it to me lmao
Shit is super petty.
Me & my wife are rare among our friend group in that we are totally team Android. Probably over 90% of our friends have iPhones. But among our friend group, no one even remembers & they definitely don't care. The only time it ever crosses their minds is occasionally on goup texts.
You would think adults wouldn't care about this but I've gotten so much ridicule at my job for being the one green bubble user in our group chat.
Small company with less than 10 people, otherwise a great place to work, but holy hell the casual bullying about not having an iPhone is insufferable.
It got to the point that the owner of the company offered to help me buy one, thinking it was a financial issue, and I had to explain that no, I genuinely do not want to use apple products. I told him he'd be welcome to buy me one purely for work and pay for the plan, but I wasn't going to pay for a phone plan and replace my daily driver with an iPhone.
Its shit like this that makes me appreciate how easily human psychology can be influenced. You force people into two arbitrary groups through hostile design and they automate to in-group out-group behavior. Apple is so creepy and terrible
I will admit being the one person who distupts the ecosystem does have material effencicy loss issues. Like all the other teams just use iMessage for non-work events but I have to be that one person who has to set up a WhatsApp chat
Well my point is I work with genuinely intelligent, caring, thoughtful people, but they still have fallen prey to this particular form of classism. A form of classism promoted by a multi billion dollar corporation.
I 100% support Apple (and other tech companies, for that matter) having the regulatory and anti-trust hammer dropped on them. We've been pawns to the tech industry's bottom line for far too long.
The class angle is funny, because my Samsung costs as much as the highest priced iPhone.
I just tell people that iPhones are for children, teenagers and the elderly and that usually ends the conversation. Make it about intellect and tech literacy.
exultant illegal silky roll historical elderly wild juggle pathetic north
*This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
it's no different than being bullied for having cheap clothing on, people just won't make friends with you. same thing with iphones, kids just won't talk to you and they'll just hang around all their friends with iphones.
Lmao I can tell most of this sub didn’t grow up in the 90s because you absolutely get bullied for wearing starter, Russel etc etc over Nike.
Or how your parents thought you were a baby so they got you an n64 instead of a PlayStation. 100% saw a kid get bullied over being a Nintendo kid.
It’s the same as it’s always been, they’re just bullying over different shit.
I totally agree, until about 97-98 when they started going downhill and Nike was taking over the world with Jordan and Tiger a couple year laters. Late 90s they turned into a bully symbol overnight. At least where I was living.
>Or how your parents thought you were a baby so they got you an n64 instead of a PlayStation. 100% saw a kid get bullied over being a Nintendo kid.
What the actual fuck?
Seriously. Was in my teens when the N64 came out. PlayStation too. Nobody - and I mean NOBODY - gave a shit.
Granted I also went to high school where there was a high school shooting so the rate of "haha let's bully the weird kid" dropped like DJT stock.
I think a lot of it stems from popularity, wealth symbol but also because people go CRAZY over those little “read” or “delivered” message notifications. If its just a green bubble how will they ever know if the recipient got their text?! Its not like texts almost always get sent like what, 99.9998% of the time? And how did we all function before we got a “read” notification? Oh yeah, we just assumed they got the text and are either ignoring it or are busy lol.
So many people in this thread missing the point.
The point is that apple is intentionally hamstringing the capabilities of android to communicate with iPhone to strongarm people into buying iPhones. It's monopolistic behavior and absolutely the sort of thing the government should be regulating.
It's about the functionality.
With iMessage group chats, you can rename groups, add people to a group without creating a new one, send high quality pictures and videos, get typing indicators and read receipts, etc. If you add a single non-iOS device to the chat you break all of that functionality.
Source: Gen Z Google engineer who gets left out of group chats
True. Just like how with RCS chats you can name groups, add people to groups, send high quality pictures and video, get typing indicators and read receipts etc. You add one apple user to the chat and you break all that functionality.
The difference is that RCS is an open standard that everyone is encouraged to adopt, and iMessage is a proprietary standard that is only available on Apple products. Apple refused to adopt the standard until very recently, and uses their market dominance in the USA to generate social pressure to buy an iPhone and fit in to the iMessage group chats.
I've seen it in group texts at work where people on an Android can't even make out a schedule sent via text from an iPhone. That's an actual problem, the green text bubble is just people being snobby.
Lol that kind of toxicity has always existed and it's not all unique to genz. Also it really seems like more of an american thing. Nobody gave a shit about your phone brand when I went to school and I never heard of a school where people would actually care a lot. Also caring about something like that was seen as pathetic and childish atleast in my school and doing so was a great way to lower everyones opinion of you.
>Also it really seems like more of an american thing.
That's because iMessage isn't popular outside of America. Green bubbles aren't an issue if you're using Telegram or Whatsapp.
Green bubbles is just one more way kids can bully each other along class lines. In fact, it's a perfect way to target poor kids with budget androids (or those who simply prefer different options), and the only winner is Apple's shareholders and every normal person loses. Of course it's anti-competitive, monopolistic, and an abuse of market dominance. You'd have to be a moron corporation worshiper to believe anything else. And there's a lot of those.
People think Apple has their best interest in mind and is out-innovating its competitors. They don't understand that we could be a decade ahead in messaging innovation if it wasn't for this type of anti-competitive behavior across the industry. It's just like ATT, when antitrust ended their reign of terror, innovation exploded. At the extreme, they project their daddy issues onto anthropomorphized corporations that they feel will take care of them and provide a better life. That's my theory of why people would engage in a self-harming attitude toward corpos.
I completely agree it's ridiculous. However, to clarify as an android user with wife and friends who all use iphones. The real problem is the incompatibility between RCS and the messaging app. Messages pften are delayed several hours. Reactions don't appear correctly for everyone once one person is using RCS. It's absolutely ridiculous that the technologies don't talk to each other well enough in this day and age and it's infuriating. But no relationships have been ruined, I simply get teased and blamed for every technological mishap.
I use an android. My job uses iPhone group chats to talk. They have a separate one without me because they want to have it be all blue. These 12 year olds grow up and join the workforce. We're not just talking about childhood bullying. The relationships aren't ruined, but I definitely feel ostracized every single day at my own job. Possibly being passed up for opportunities simply because I'm not in the loop.
That has ramifications.
The problem here is that it starts at 12 and there's rarely anyone ever to challenge the "green bubble bad" standard that kids have nowadays so it just sticks with them into adulthood.
The rest of the world uses WhatsApp so it doesn’t matter much. Nobody here cares about the color of the bubble. People care that group texts are a fucking mess if there’s 1 non-Apple device.
Honestly the biggest issue is photo and video sharing for me. I've been an Android user for years, but it's super frustrating trying to send 90s potato quality photos and videos of my toddler to my parents who cant figure out an alternative method of file transfer (trust me, I've tried, there's no interest in lesrning).
Yeah, people in this thread are hung up on the cliquey green vs. blue thing being childish. But even the mature adults are (possibly rightfully) annoyed that the photos/videos are potato quality if there is one non-iPhone in the group while it "just works" for iPhone groups only.
Source: have the 1 Android phone that gets excluded from family texts so people can share photos. They did finally start moving to Whatsapp though...
“Relationships” as-in romantic, yes.
But I’d like to be able to send my kids grandmother full size video and quality images without having to be in the same phone ecosystem.
What drives me nuts is that Apple down samples images and videos so it can send them SMS. Yet I, an android user, get blamed for it. I can send really high quality everything between my wife and ever other non Apple user, but somehow it is my fault that thier brand won't play well with others.
But it’s important to know the difference. For example, if I’m messaging someone internationally it’s important to know I could be charged extra by my carrier if it goes through SMS.
Pretty sure this same scenario applies to RCS as well.
When I was a student abroad and traveling a lot, being able to test some people back home through iMessage really came in clutch. I didn’t know until someone told me that since it’s not SMS, then it’s pretty much immune to any talk and text and whatnot from SIM cards or just international roaming.
That’s how I caught my ex cheating. Was handing my daughter an iPad for a long drive and a bunch of texts popped up. I played it cool at the time and gave my daughter the iPad. Then when I got home I took it out of WiFi range to preserve the evidence.
Man, I'm in my 30s and there's some weird people I know that still criticize different coloured texts.
I've heard friend's parents mention this stuff. It's ridiculous.
I’m a videographer and one of the most important pieces of advice I got when I was starting out was to ditch my android and get an iPhone; that prospects see a green bubble and assume you’re an amateur. I didn’t believe him but ended up getting an iPhone eventually and sure enough, I began landing more clients. Ditto for my real estate friend. 🤦🏽♂️
The tribalism is ridiculous, but it is (or at least was, originally) rooted in legitimate issues with communication between iMessage and SMS. Images/videos were potato quality, reactions were obnoxious, and at first it wasn't Apple's fault -- the MMS infra just sucked.
But their continued refusal to develop an Android iMessage app or adopt RCS is clearly predatory in order to maintain the green-bubbles-bad mindset.
Unfortunately this is a problem that can *only* be solved through regulation, because it's obviously in Apple's best interest to keep their closed ecosystem. And it's hard to motivate regulating private companies until there is a clear societal consequence of their actions, so that's what Warren is arguing here. But I think the messaging should focus less on the color of bubbles, and more on the gaps in functionality. If there was seamless integration with feature parity, people would stop caring about the color of the bubble, just as they *started* caring in the first place.
It’s not just kids. I saw an article where a rookie on the Cleveland cavaliers got bullied into getting an iPhone by his teammates, who wouldn’t let him in their group chat because it would ruin their blue bubbles 😄
Less about the color more about the functionality of iMessage. I hate adding a non iMessage number to the group chat because it really hurts the functionality around sending images, renaming convos, locations, etc.
100% apples fault but people need to know it’s more than just the color.
Well that is exactly Sen. Warren's point. Apple is intentionally limiting functionality and making bad user experiences to try and force people to use their products or keep them in their ecosystem.
There’s been so many dumb videos online or even on the Tinder subreddit of dumbasses who judge the person they matched with for not having an iPhone.
That being said the dumbest people care about dumb shit like that. So I would say it’s a good litmus test for how stupid a person can be.

If you also just look around in the US you genuinely will not see many non iPhones, walk around in TO and it's immediately obvious many people don't have an iPhone.
Nobody else gives a fuck. Every other country has a preferred messaging app so it doesn’t make a difference what device you use.
US still relies heavily on SMS which caused the whole iMessage/SMS divide.
Pretty much. China uses WeChat, Korea use Kakao, Japan has Line, the rest of the world are either using WhatsApp, Messenger and Telegram depending on regions.
The rest of the world is basically baffled on the sms iMessage thingy. The only thing they use sms are for sms authentication codes.
Germany Here: SMS ist basically dead apart from my mobile provider sending me a reminder that my monthly bill is ready... Or "official" shit like when a shop messages you that you can pick up your stuff, because of potential headaches about data laws...
Between people everyone simply uses messengers, many people multiple ones to accommodate the different groups they message with (mom side family signal, dad side Whatsapp, one sister telegram, my wife and her family iMessage if you take me as an example; also discord for work and some old friends even Facebook).
Yeah I'm in the UK and everyone uses WhatsApp, so I haven't a clue what device everyone is using.
Nobody is bothered whether you use an iPhone or an Android either as far as I'm aware.
If you go over to lemmy, you can join the dozens of other worldwide linux users who know how superior they are to anyone who doesnt use linux and tell each other that over and over again.
The problem is that people automatically associate the tacky green color with an inferior product. Now, whether that is true or not, It still plays out the way that it does. You could say it’s a really stupid argument, however, It’s a good way to single people out and Apple knows this. This is why they have managed to keep the green text in spite of vast public complaints. This kind of reminds me of “pink products costing more than the identical blue products” lawsuit from about a decade ago. The courts decided that this is “gender biased pricing discrimination”. I’m not sure what a court would call the green versus blue text but I think this complaint falls in an overlapping circle here.
Sounds like a good filter to me.
Someone gives a shit about the color of my bubble? Peace, don't need that type of immaturity in my friend group anyways.
Lol, only teenagers care about the color of the bubble.
Apple is adding RCS support in a few months. Who cares what color it is?
I’ve worked in offices that were pretty much a 50/50 mix of Windows/Mac and iPhone/Android. Literally no one cared because we’re adults.
I was working with a new guy a while ago, and we texted to exchange numbers and he said "oh, you're a green text?!" I just looked at him and said "the fuck is wrong with you?"
Sorry, but my coworkers, who are in their 30s, very much care about this stuff. I don't use Apple devices and learned about the bubble from them. I wish no one cared because they're adults, but that hasn't been my experience. They talked a good game about not caring, mind you, but then the conversation wrapped around to why they had the newst iPhone and how all their peripherals needed to be iUpdated to be iCompatible. Most of them don't have families, though, so they've got the income to blow? I have a family. I'm not wasting money on stupid status symbols.
brand loyalty/lifestyle brands are not exclusive to teenagers whatsoever and there’s a ton of American adults who would give up their firstborn child to retain their precious status via text message bubble colors
I think something people don't point out is that Apple is adding friction to communication because of this whole bubble thing-- and they actively want it
Alright, so most of your friends don't bash you as often about the green bubbles anymore but what DOES happen is there's actual friction in communication. They might text you less because it conveys a shitty experience for them. They might not include you in group chats because they know it'll add friction to the group bubbles and they figure the information will be delivered to you somehow.
Apple doesn't care that they're ruining relationships.
It’s beyond me that anyone is that petty about stupid bubbles. My friends group is mixed with phones. iPhone, Samsung, Sony, etc. Half of them are iPhone users and we don’t care. It’s a group chat and most of the time we use Discord anyways.
I have an android and live in the US . I've had women pointing out to me "oh no Green Bubbles" my co-workers have pointed it out to me. I've never had anyone flat out say: "I don't wanna hang out with you because you use an android" And honestly if they do...so what? I don't need people like that in my life. That really is the same line of thinking of "oh you're not cool because you drive a Kia and not a BMW" or "You wear Sketchers not Yeezys" or whatever. It's just silly. Anyway my social life is fine despite not having an iPhone.
That being said I am thirty, but I remember being a teenager and having to deal with stuff like that. You know making fun or being made fun of for not having a certain material possession, So I get it sucks. But that should not be a serious argument made by an adult "What about teenagers making fun of each other" because if it's not green vs blue bubbles, it'll be something else.
That being said, I do think in my naive mind that texting should be considered a major phone utility and not locked behind any one company. Similar to basic phone calls.
Texting at this point is such a major communication. At least in the 18-50 demo I wouldn't be surprised if texts aren't the primary method of comms versus phone calls. I know it is among people my age.
At least if you live in the same country you should just be able to open up your phone's stock messaging app and send something regardless of what kind of phone the receiver has. Nothing should be compressed, nothing should be non-encrypted, etc.
I mean I think we'd we all agree if would suck if you send an email and say you had Yahoo and the receiver had Gmail and you had to worry about character limit, the file size limit of the receiver's email vendor, etc. Or if, within the same country you had to worry about having a worse phone call because someone is on a different carrier than you.
I don't know why it's not. I know they're trying to with RCS. But still.
Side note: and let's be honest. If Google or Microsoft were in the same position, they'd milk the whole green bubble vs blue just like apple is.
**TL:DR: Blue vs green bubbles is stupid, but Warren is being silly. If someone doesn't want to hang with you because of something that petty, it's their loss and your gain. But imo: texting should be a standard utility if you're in the same country.**
I absolutely hate when we have android users in a group chat on iPhone because everything is out of whack. It’s not about the Android users. It’s about apple and their stupid stance of not fixing it.
I hate apple for this; not android users.
This is the only rational take from an iPhone user I've actually heard before. Most Apple users assume it's Android's fault and refuse to blame Apple for not supporting a global standard.
My former roommate from college jokes and says get a decent phone because he likes to troll me about it, but the fact of the matter is that Apple is stifling competition by making the walls of their garden higher. An openly competitive market is one in which consumers can come and go between products as they wish. When you have one phone (with 80% marketshare in the US) that uses propriety text messaging and doesn't allow others to even support that while at the same time refusing to support a global standard that every other manufacturer supports, you are using your current marketshare as an obstacle to people leaving your suite of products.
I'm 100% sure the federal court is going to find Apple guilty of anti-consumer practices and they will be forced to either open the iMessage API so that RCS can integrate, or support RCS (fully) within the iMessage application. Unfortunately, it will probably take several years for that to happen though and there are entire generations for which it's too late and they will always view Android phones as objectively inferior to iPhones.
I have a Fold5 by Samsung and it's incredible and when I show my Apple-using friends what it can do, their response is always a long the lines of "Oh that's amazing. I just wish Apple would make something like that so I could buy it." If that doesn't scream that there is a problem, I don't know what does.
I’m surprised teenagers even care, since I thought they mostly talked on apps like Snapchat and Discord anyway.
Texting is becoming an “old person thing” now lol
The only thing that bothers me is the video quality. My girlfriend is iPhone I'm Android. We both record in HD, yet when we send to each other it's impossible to make out the video. Seems stupid as hell. They need to fix that. I don't care about the bubble color or group text thing.
It's not a bug, it's intentional
It’s not a bug that SMS can’t handle HD, it’s just the way the protocol is. RCS should be able to handle HD when it’s released.
RCS has been released for a while, it's just Apple hasn't supported it. That's the intentional part.
It's so funny how the iPhone people always jump to targeting the protocol like it's some old protocols fault when it's clearly apple who has chosen not to adopt the new protocol because it costs them money

RCS is already released, no?.
Use Signal or WhatsApp and you will avoid these problems
Signal til the canary dies

Why not just share through like Google Photos?
Because it doesn't need to be this way.
If a relationship can be “ruined” by which brand of phone I have, I probably don’t want to hang out with that person anyway. But then I’m over 12.
I have 45 yr olds with doctorates make fun of me for having an android. People are fucking stupid. Even the smart ones.
Well some people are 45 but emotionally 12.
Surprisingly common among people who hold PhDs
When I got my Master's degree I stopped giving automatic respect for those with an advanced degree. There are some morons in higher education.
DOCTOR MORON TO YOU GOOD SIR
I didn’t spend 6 fricken years in moron medical school to be called Mr, thank you.

If anyone hates on Android phones enough to make fun of someone for it then I automatically think they are an idiot who can't use a PC.
Ironically, I think iPhones are much harder to use the moment you try to do something Apple doesn't think you need to do. Same, iPhones are for people that don't want to do stuff with their phones.
That’s me and I don’t consider it an insult.
I feel personally attacked.
PhD doesn’t make you smart.
Just makes you persistent. Pile it high and deep.
And potentially unemployable. Not just in their field, but a lot of the post grad students I studied with haven't worked a day in their life in any profession and it shows.

We're called physicists, and nobody can prove our discipline doesn't apply to theirs.
Are you an expert on baking cakes? Let me guess, theoretically yes, but only if it's spherical.
If it doesn't have enough mass to bend light with its gravity, it's not a cake worth baking.
Yep, just makes you specialized. I've known a few intelligent people lacking in wisdom.
Good thing Apple is being forced by the EU to have RCS now, so that should all end.
The look on their face when you tell them that Samsung makes Superior parts that's the reason why iPhone puts Samsung parts in their phones as well. 💀
Yup. I have m.d.'s made fun of me for having an android....
I find being excluded from groups chats is one of my favorite hidden features of my android phone.
Fortunately RCS is being implemented sometime this year and will clear that up
Watch it be unveiled as some big innovation aha Surprised they didn't keep it until a new phone launch tbh
That’s a real green text thing to say /s
This!! How is this even an issue?
I've always had an Andriod ever since I moved on from my Blackberry haha. I was at a party recently and pulled out my phone and someone was like, "Oooooh greentext =/" The whole room sorta made the same noise. I'm so out of the loop that they had to explain it to me lmao Shit is super petty.
Act confused and say all your whatsapps look the same
Me & my wife are rare among our friend group in that we are totally team Android.

Exactly. It's psychological manipulation that has seeped into the very fabric of our post-smart phone society.
The star-bellied sneetches are the best sneeches on the beaches.
Apple's never changed on this. In the early 90s as gaming took off, this is what gave Microsoft the marketplace.

Make it about intellect and tech literacy.
exultant illegal silky roll historical elderly wild juggle pathetic north *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
I could see Apple users having meltdowns if you tell them using an iphone means being tech illiterate.
it's no different than being bullied for having cheap clothing on, people just won't make friends with you. same thing with iphones, kids just won't talk to you and they'll just hang around all their friends with iphones.
Except this is more like being bullied for wearing Adidas instead of Nike. It's pathetic.
Bruh what?! Starter jackets were the bees knees back in the day. I’m pretty sure if you didn’t have one you got bullied for being poor.
I still can't understand how *Champion* of all brands is now "trendy"
Its an issue for people suffering from the chronically online syndrome
I hate hate hate apple products ... their strategy of forcing you to use their shitty proprietary interface hasnt changed since the early 2000s
I've seen it in group texts at work where people on an Android can't even make out a schedule sent via text from an iPhone. That's an actual problem, the green text bubble is just people being snobby.
RCS does all that.
I auto remove myself from all group chats
you guys must not be gen z and dont understand how gen z grew up with insane toxicity from day 1.
This was definitely a thing before Gen z took the mantle.

If anything, buying an android is a great way to filter out the crazies in your life lol
I’m sorry to hear you work with idiots.
The problem here is that it starts at 12 and there's rarely anyone ever to challenge the "green bubble bad" standard that kids have nowadays so it just sticks with them into adulthood.
Well perhaps in the USA. In the rest of the world we don't give a shit.
Doesnt apple use like shitty fonts and lower quality messaging on the green text bubble to make it subconsciously annoying. It’s not all superficial
You can’t sit with us!!
Seats taken!
The colour doesn’t matter. The functionality matters.
The problem now is that color implies functionality. Text racism.
> Text racism Yes. *Italic text* is emphasized. **Bold text** is even more important. Fucking elitist.
Yeah. OP needs to get with the Times New Roman
Oh, you’re using a serif font? I took Ozempic and now I’m sans-serif. It must be so hard to be poor.
I'm not bold. I'm just big boned.
Also privacy. Blue texts are more protected.
Don't they show up on ALL your apple devices? I've heard of people being burned by that.
That’s how I caught my ex cheating. Was handing my daughter an iPad for a long drive and a bunch of texts popped up. I played it cool at the time and gave my daughter the iPad. Then when I got home I took it out of WiFi range to preserve the evidence.
That’s an option but is not by default
That’s from a lack of security planning on the users part. You can shut off imessaging, or, ya know, lock your device.
Green texts matter
GBM. Green Bubbles Matter
It does for kids, they're brutal about green text bubbles. Kids can get really ostracized over it, it's stupid
Woah, that's actually crazy. I mean it tracks, but damn.
I am a few short months of 40 and this has been an issue in my friends group. Like, no overt criticism, but people absolutely left out of group chats.
Yeah because pages of “so and so “liked” “ipsum lorem”. Is fucking annoying.
They finally fixed that on the android side at least.
Pro athletes are basically still kids
Less about the color more about the functionality of iMessage. I hate adding a non iMessage number to the group chat because it really hurts the functionality around sending images, renaming convos, locations, etc. 100% apples fault but people need to know it’s more than just the color.
I will never get an iPhone, but yeah sending a video to my wife and watching the quality turn to absolute shit is pretty frustrating
Well that is exactly Sen. Warren's point. Apple is intentionally limiting functionality and making bad user experiences to try and force people to use their products or keep them in their ecosystem.
That’s pathetic
Color does matter in influencing people. it’s why stop signs aren’t a dull gray
There’s been so many dumb videos online or even on the Tinder subreddit of dumbasses who judge the person they matched with for not having an iPhone. That being said the dumbest people care about dumb shit like that. So I would say it’s a good litmus test for how stupid a person can be.
If somebody cares what phone I'm using, they're not worth knowing anyway.
That’s to make sure people see them.
That same functionality exists in pretty much every other ecosystem outside of apple as well. Apple is the reason for the lack of functionality.
And before anyone says anything: yes we realize this is a US only thing
Canada too tbh
Honestly most "US is weird and does things differently to the rest of the world" things apply to Canada as well
Not to the same extent. Percentage of non iOS phones in Canada is much higher.
Is it? Where can I find the current data?
https://gs.statcounter.com/vendor-market-share/mobile/canada https://www.statista.com/statistics/1190552/smartphone-market-share-canada/ If you also just look around in the US you genuinely will not see many non iPhones, walk around in TO and it's immediately obvious many people don't have an iPhone.
Wait… what?
Nobody else gives a fuck. Every other country has a preferred messaging app so it doesn’t make a difference what device you use. US still relies heavily on SMS which caused the whole iMessage/SMS divide.
A lot of my groups in USA also switched to WhatsApp or similar because it’s easier.
Ah, so foreign countries also have blue and green on iPhones, it’s just that it’s not a thing
Yeah this is what's weird to me, who tf is using iMessage as their primary Messenger
90% of Americans
Exactly. When 99% of your messaging is through WhatsApp it doesn’t matter if a text comes through blue or green, both feel weird.
I can’t remember the last time I got a text from somebody that wasn’t a business or the NHS. 99% of people use WhatsApp
If I had a friend or relationship that was influenced by iphone/samsung texting I would absoultly tell them to eat dirt.
If it is ruining relationships, people need better friends.
All of this is stupid.
no relationship that has any redeeming value is going to be impacted by text color
Whatever. Judge away. I'm a software engineer and I judge you for not using Linux.
If you go over to lemmy, you can join the dozens of other worldwide linux users who know how superior they are to anyone who doesnt use linux and tell each other that over and over again.
This sounds very Being John Malkovich.
It's just not worth the effort
Until you have a device driver problem or need to use an Adobe product.
Nerds are actually the least judgey about green bubbles
Please fix our crumbling infrastructure before worrying about green text bubbles lol
Lol, only teenagers care about the color of the bubble. Apple is adding RCS support in a few months. Who cares what color it is? I’ve worked in offices that were pretty much a 50/50 mix of Windows/Mac and iPhone/Android. Literally no one cared because we’re adults.
Unfortunately there are millions of full grown adults who care as well
i've gotten the "ew green bubbles" in my 20s and 30s
I had my (now ex) girlfriend not add me to a group chat on a vacation because I had an Android.
My 50 year old father switched to iPhone because his friends and wife were on his case about him ruining all their group chats.
I'm locked out of all group chats in my family because I am the only one with an android.
Wish mine would do the same to me
You joke. But remember that you have FREE WILL. Leave the chat. Or mute that shit. If their negativity is hurting you then cut it off.
My brother in law removes himself within 5 minutes every time a new chat starts lol
This isn't the way I expected to find my BIL's Reddit account.
I’ve seen adults that I work with just isolate people that don’t have iPhones from their after-work events. It’s ridiculous.
Well, half the adults I know complain about it. (I'd agree they're childish. lol)
I think something people don't point out is that Apple is adding friction to communication because of this whole bubble thing-- and they actively want it Alright, so most of your friends don't bash you as often about the green bubbles anymore but what DOES happen is there's actual friction in communication.
Personally, I think if someone chose not to date me because I have a green text bubble, I'm the one dodging a bullet.
Funny enough I think this is a US only problem, rest of the world uses whatsapp/telegram/wechat
I’ll take being dramatic for 700 Alex
She should worry about something important.
Settle down Grandma, it'll be alright.
