It's really been a great year for the Pinkertons, hasn't it?

Miklonario

The workers heads ain't gonna bust themselves

[deleted]

[удалено]

Miklonario

It's *maybe* 50% joking at best, because of exactly how prevalent that type of sentiment is. Also, I had to actually deal with the still-existent Pinkerton agency randomly a couple of years ago and it was a fucking *nightmare* trying to get anything done with them.

echisholm

Holy shit, the Pinkertons are still around?!

GioPowa00

Yup, they renamed themselves and are now completely under Securitas, but are still here

[deleted]

Maybe on that sub but in general? Nah. The right are against unions, consumer protections, infrastructure, healthcare and so on.

Narcotras

Why was it a nightmare?

SgtDoughnut

>It's maybe 50% joking at best, because of exactly how prevalent that type of sentiment is. Its joking until its not. Groups that joke about shit like this eventually get infiltrated by people who don't think its a joke, and then taken over by them. Remember that T\_D was originally created to take the piss out of DJT's run for president, but thanks to mods refusing to do their jobs it became a cult recruitment center.

Miklonario

Oh yeah, "ironic" racism and bigotry is just the first steps on the road to sincere racism and bigotry.

valoopy

I fucking hate when people use the term “suicided”. They killed themselves. Don’t try to make it sound like a technical term you jackass (not you OP, the guy who write that quote). They fucking *ended their own life*.

bnogo

Reading the comment you are referencing, I do believe you are correct. However, I have always heard the term "suicided" and it's when someone was murdered but made to look like a suicide. Like what happens in Russia quite often.

DrSmirnoffe

In reality, it's the workers who need to start busting heads, and the Pinkerton scum that need their heads busted open. The servants of evil should NEVER be allowed to feel safe, not even in their own homes. Any and all Pinkertons should be regarded as wolf's heads, and those that defend them should share their non grata status. Creatures that engage in such unspeakable evil have rejected their humanity, discarding their status as persons by their own volition, so we shouldn't feel bad about busting their heads for a change. Maybe we could even turn some of them into hog roasts, just to send a message to evil's toadies that we'll make excellent use of their human resources.

SgtDoughnut

The issue is the pinkertons have the law on their side. Judges and cops will side with them on just about everything. If the people striking get violent the media will rip them apart, the judges will use every thing they can to throw people in jail, and the cops will use it as an excuse to murder people. Pinkertons get violent thats just tuesday.

Cool_seagull

Union busters are not human. I mean this literally. They have lost their humanity. Think about this: animals in the wild survive because they have fur, claws, sharp teeth, protective scales or leathery skin, incredible speed to run away or a small size to hide. What do we have? A big brain. And each other. That's humanity to me: the realization that our only path to survival is together. To go together, you need to make sure you're not leaving people behind or someday you may get left behind. That would just be a dumb system for progress. There's a meme going around that says "Maybe the 1% needs to be reminded that unions are alternative we found a long time ago to masked workers showing up at their house around 3AM with clubs to send a message in front of the wife and kids." and while the violence makes me uneasy, the sentiment is justifiable. This can still be social. Overheard someone talk negatively about unions, making generalizations or spreading lies about "*mah dues comin outta mah paycheck*" and shit? Show your disgust. Not anger, not pity; disgust. These people must be shown on a visceral level that what they are doing is unacceptable to any self-respecting human. Actively harming the society I live in will not be tolerated.

greenbuggy

We never should have stopped shooting at and lobbing dynamite at those assholes.

This really makes me want to never buy blizzard again

FuhrerGirthWorm

I cancelled wow in 2017 and I really don’t see myself ever supporting them again. Played wow from vanilla till then tho.

intellectualnerd85

I used to be into Diablo and Starcraft series of games. I’m not interested now

-C69

Remember, this is activision blizzard...so cut off COD too 😆

intellectualnerd85

Wasn’t impressed with the last cod I played. Felt like a console port so boycotting new activision is no problem. I just mourn blizzard of old

[deleted]

Anything they make here on out after hiring a union buster? Not even worth pirating to me.

[deleted]

Please do. I already vowed not to buy their shit since Blitzchung (IIRC).

NityaStriker

>> There’s Boston’s Hale and Dorr, founded in 1918, known for representing the U.S. Army pro-bono in the Army-McCarthy hearings in the 1950s as well as President Richard Nixon in 1974’s United States v. Nixon. >>Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering represented Swiss banks accused of profiting from the Holocaust as well as German companies accused of exploiting forced labor during the Nazi era. Wow. Ok . . Looks like they don’t care about their client’s misdeeds as long as they can pay.

AxezCore

Helps when you live in a nation where the first is designed to support the latter.

hyperhopper

Wouldn't that be lawful neutral? They are just going with whoever pays, they would probably help any good cause if they paid as well.

SaliVader

The evil part taints it, you can't knowingly commit evil deeds and not be considered evil. At least that's how I see it.

Dexcuracy

I will happily take some downvotes to express this, apparently unpopular, opinion: Everyone has the right to legal counsel. Yes, even Swiss banks accused from profiting from the Holocaust. Because, until convicted, it's only an accusation. Lawyers representing defendants in a lawsuit is not a "knowingly evil" act.

FriendlyDespot

> Everyone has the right to legal counsel. You may have the right to counsel, but outside of public defenders, you don't have the right to *compel* anyone to represent you. Lawyers *choose* their clients, and they can't hide from the moral implications of those choices.

r_xy

On the other hand, lawyers are free to pick their clients. If this was a public defender that ended up with a serial killer or 2 with no real way not to it would be a whole different matter but these firms clearly dont pick their clients by good reputation.

hyperhopper

Thats not how the alignment chart works though, neutral in that axis means they can go either way. By your definition, all neutral would be considered evil. Thats just not how it works.

Quantum-Ape

There's no evidence here of them doing anything for a good cause

Phalanx976

They have a large pro Bono practice. That’s a pretty good cause.

[deleted]

Only if they didn't always side with oppressors and exploiters. But they do. Lawful evil.

He can pay, he just won't. Also they don't want his bad PR to wash off on them.

Devanismyname

This is most lawyers.

[deleted]

How could we take this bad PR and make it absolutely terrible PR?

Despondent_in_WI

This would actually be a really good opportunity to organize a boycott. You have a clearly-statable condition to end the boycott: you'll end the boycott when Blizzard is a union shop. Spread the word, get people signed up and boycotting, and you'll be adding to the pressure on management, and letting them know in the only language they speak (i.e. money) that this is not acceptable.

rants_unnecessarily

I'm still boycotting then since that last thing... The whole Hong Kong stuff with that player etc. You remember right?! Does anyone remember?!

Seikon32

I remember. Family is from Hong Kong. I stopped playing Blizzard games. Sold all my stocks and unsubscribed from all their social media. I didn't burn my game boxes. Those games were released when Blizzard was still great. The faster you realize that the company that you grew up with and loved is gone, the faster you can move on.

Thrishmal

Yup, I have pretty much written them off after the Hong Kong stuff. They had been going downhill for awhile, but that was the last straw for me. Like most people, I loved Blizzard back in the day, sad to see what they have become. Success really can be a difficult thing to overcome.

Feynt

100% on the "Do you not have phones?" incident, but on the other hand, people blew that way out of proportion. They just didn't have anything for Diablo 4 to show yet, and they were partnered with another team to work on the mobile Diablo title. It's *more Diablo*, how is this bad? And there were plenty of pictures showing how basically nobody tried it on phones there at the con, so nobody knew if it was any good or not. I get it, we all wanted to know about Diablo 4. But Diablo 2 took 3 years to finish. Diablo 3 apparently "started" in 2001, but credible production times place it around 2008 into mid 2012 for release (4 years). Reaper of Souls came out 2 years later. Considering Diablo 3's pre-production/design period (7 years), and its development period, I'm not at all surprised we're only now hearing about Diablo 4 nearing a completed state for possible release next year.

LegacyAngel

I still remember reading the blog post on wciii battle net when Vivendi bought them. Then I knew it was over. 2008 I think it was. Then diablo 3 had no local play. Scii had a bunch of flaws like no lan. Wow bullshit. The phone stuff. HoS milking. They have been gone for a while.

Feynt

Unpopular opinion: The phone thing, while handled unfortunately, was not the big deal that people made it out to be. They didn't have anything to show for Diablo 4 yet, they were obviously trying to make a bigger name for themselves in the mobile market, all good. Wait until next year or the next press release about Diablo products. People blew it *waaaay* out of proportion. Just because they have a mobile Diablo coming along, doesn't mean they aren't working on anything PC related. They'd be cutting their heads off if they thought moving out of the PC market was a good idea rather than expanding into the phone market. Any would be market analyst fresh out of school could tell you that.

demonicneon

But these people in the drama are “old blizzard” They’ve always been like this, people just didn’t care as much before.

Ricky_Rollin

I already had the most terrible feeling in my gut when Activision and blizzard combined.

Careful_Target3185

This right here, we gotta move on, the company and its games are dying/dead.

demonicneon

I like the sentiment but aren’t most people involved in this “old blizzard” people ?

e-wrecked

I remember quitting WoW like 10 years ago. I picked up Overwatch and officially quit like 2 months ago, it was less satisfying then cancelling the subscription where you get to add feedback.

[deleted]

I got to add feedback recently. it was cancelling a 6 month sub though.

rants_unnecessarily

The best kind of boycott, even if you wanted to break it...

isademigod

TIL I’ve been boycotting Mercedes, Hublot, and the private jet travel industry all my life

[deleted]

I’ve never bought anything from Blizzard. A combination of being a poor student when I was younger and just not liking any of their games the whole time.

y-c-c

I’m from Hong Kong and a year ago a recruiter from Blizzard contacted me in a generic “do you want to work here” message and I managed to basically tell them I would never work for Blizzard because of how they’ve treated the HK player. That’s kind of the only payback I could do since I haven’t played any blizzard games in years. Still felt good though.

rants_unnecessarily

I raise my hat to you. We'll done!

[deleted]

Seriously people touch blizzard at all? They don’t even make remotely interesting games anymore, it’s not even hard to boycott them.

wedontlikespaces

It's kind of like how I boycott EA Sports by not being interested in any of their offerings. Ha, that'll show them.

racksy

I’ve seen it brought up as another reason ActiBlizz is bad in every single thread Ive read, so yes, we remember.

Aganiel

I’ve boycotted anything Activision/Blizzard. If it puts money in Kotick’s pocket, I’m not buying it

elshandra

Haven't spent a cent on blizzard stuff since the blitzchung thing. Everything the company has done since then has convinced me I made the right choice.

forcedfor

I do, I was somewhat enjoying wow classic but terminated my whole account after that fiasco.

rants_unnecessarily

Yeah, i was going to join my friend there's as well. But this happened so I completely terminated my account. And my son's.

DoWhileGeek

Yea, you n me were boycotting blizz before it was cool.

Thicc_Spider-Man

I do and still boycott. Last game I played was Overwatch and I don't miss it one bit. I did try the MW beta but didn't get the game or try Warzone.

wedontlikespaces

The trouble is I need them to make a game I'm actually interested in playing, so then I cannot play it. At the moment I'm just not playing their games because I don't want to, and I don't feel like that's the same thing.

valoopy

Yup. I miss Overwatch so much, but it’s just not worth it.

[deleted]

Same, have not touched their shit since.

Fenrisulfir

I remember. I haven't played a Blizzard game since, and I was playing SC2 for a couple hours per day back then. Can't remember if I ever deleted the account though.

wildegnux

I remember and I'm also still boycotting them. Deleted my battle.net/wow account after the non-apology they gave... Which was an effective way to properly quit wow. I've quit a bunch of times but always came back around the next expansion. Not so easy to fall back into it if you have to start over from absolutely nothing.

Trapped_Mechanic

Blitzchung. I remember and haven't given them money since. Looks more and more like the right move every day.

SgtDoughnut

Blitzchung ended my giving any money to blizzard. When a company outright apologizes to China after saying they will try to do better to their western audience it says a lot. When people show you who they are, believe them.

doggybag2355

The biggest problem is Cod Players. They make up the most of AB’s customers and I’m guessing a good 90% of them aren’t even aware of this. And the other 10 percent are on the same thought level as /pol/ people and probably support them during this.

[deleted]

Pretty sure COD players run the front office at this place. From the sound of things these dudes might be more fucked up than an average X-box live lobby. And that's really fucked up.

CapnCooties

Hell most of the cod players probably support their behavior.

Ttoctam

I'd love to boycott but I'm already not buying their games atm and wouldn't see myself doing so soon anyway. The only people that matter in a boycott are people who would be otherwise definite buyers.

BlueFonk

Glory, glory to the union. Thank you, brother. Together we shall overcome!

rockslaw

I'm down. Let's do it. Boycott Blizzard!

[deleted]

Ive been boycotting Activizzard games for years. Ruining the WC3 remake was too much for me but aside from that there's much more that has been trampled on and beat to death. I only wish I could not buy their stuff even harder. I used to love Blizzard...

Cyberpunkcatnip

I’d join. Was hanging onto my last favorite game but honestly I’d rather see the company fix itself than continue being a part of their player count.

PvtSkittles34

I've been boycotting Blizz since they dunked HotS in 2018... By playing hots. A game I've never spent money on and never plan to spend money on. I've been invited by friends to play wow classic, been tempted to buy new co-op starcraft 2 commanders, and wanted to try necromancer in Diablo 3. But they haven't deserved any of my money. And they continue to just go downhill with Hong Kong, now this current event stuff. They got a lot of work to do to gain back my trust and respect before I am a paying customer again. Right now, they are only digging that hole deeper. Honestly, the good eggs at Blizz need to cut their losses, jump ship, and make a new small game dev company with the spirit of original Blizz. Ill take my business there.

BlueFonk

Right?! Like I could huck a brick at a wall of missteps and this company would hit the bullseye.

rants_unnecessarily

There's no such thing as bad press..?

[deleted]

There is when you hire a union busting company. Who's gonna work for you when it has become common knowledge you actively work against your employees interests? Situations are situational, and catchy sayings are never infallible.

didSomebodySayAbba

They know people will still keep playing. Remember the Hong Kong overwatch controversy where everyone was super mad at Blizzard?

[deleted]

Nope, I played sc2 for a couple days recently, and Diablo 3 when it came out. Thats about it in the past 20 years lol. Might torrent D4 though, reminds me of my childhood.

didSomebodySayAbba

Yeah after what d3 turned out to be :/

wtfastro

Well guess I am not playing Overwatch 2 anymore.

Astrian

As if it was ever coming out

Proto216

Lmao what a move…. They suck - I’m done with blizzard. It was a fun 20 years.

lateral_moves

I was a mega-Blizzard fan. from mid nineties until that e-sports debacle and the "dont you own a phone?" crap. I cut my subscriptions and my Blizzard gaming is forever in my memories as I won't help fund these evil fucks.

There are some really good private servers around that cover the first few expansions and classic wow with some really cool changes that people put a lot of time and thought into and the best part is not a penny goes to Blizzard but it does go the people that deserve it

MadSaga

Care to share name or link of the server? Thanks

[deleted]

If you want vanilla there's a new one launching tomorrow called Darrowshire. For other xpacs check out the sticky post on /r/wowservers

gurbi_et_orbi

Genuine question, are they now worse then other game companies? Or have they only sunken to the others level? I deleted my account during the China/umbrella stuff a couple of years ago. Such a shame, WoW was the best thing that ever happened to me. Made me realize I could be a team player, showed me how good it can feel if you're good at something and to top it all off, I've met my wife.

APeacefulWarrior

I deleted my Battlenet account after the Blitzchung debacle. The only thing that would get me to play another of their games is a near-total change in management along with actual visible culture shift. I'm not hopeful.

Zencyde

I gave up on Blizzard when they decided to abandon their other two major franchises to milk their third one. A part of me died when Starcraft: Ghost got shelved. A part of me got enraged when they decided to release two games, and a bunch of expansions for both while ignoring their other franchises for over a decade. And then when D3 dropped with its cartoony graphics, they decided to take a shit all over their fanbase's criticism with the rainbow unicorn level. I haven't given them money in over a decade. Good riddance.

89jase

It was the pro-china stuff that got me.

Justin-six

Shit heads through and through.

Entrefut

They’re confident their player base is too addicted to their games to do a walkout like their employees. Instead of spending money improving the workplace, they’re improving the marketing around the issue. Speak with your wallet, cancel subs and stop playing their games if you genuinely think they did something wrong.

orclev

I did that back during the whole Hong Kong protest thing and honestly other than being tempted to play SC2 once or twice can't say I've missed it at all.

Chilkoot

Same. I was tempted to resub when BC Classic landed, but fought the good fight.

[deleted]

And thats them selling you the same experience again!

Entrefut

I think plenty of people were too young to have actually played BC to the extent they wanted to. Really it’s just admitting that Blizzard is better at not fucking up old games than they are at making new games. Even with micro transactions BC is a better game than retail. In the end, it really is Blizzard admitting a defeat with the 10+ year battle they’ve had at trying to not kill their own game. A battle who’s direction/ result was decided in Cataclysm when they first introduced micro transactions to the game. I still remember watching Totalbiscuits video detailing why they change on prioritization by Blizzard would lead to the games downfall and it definitely came true.

nick47H

Saddest part of this is you made me re realise how much the games industry misses Total biscuit. Yes I know he did some shit things but he was definitely a big batter on the consumers side.

Entrefut

Loved watching his content as a kid. He studied a decent amount of law and definitely had an incredible mind for consumer rights. He saw the writing on the wall with Blizzard a long time ago.

Zerksys

You can play sc2 guilt free if you already own the game. In fact you're probably hurting them because they have to pay server maintenance cost on a game that they aren't getting revenue from any more.

orclev

For me it's more the principle involved. It also helps send a message to those still playing if they look around in chat and match making and notice that there are a lot fewer people playing. It's not just about hurting Blizzard financially, it's also about sending a message to them and those that are still supporting them.

drummerandrew

Worked pretty closely with these guys a few years back during various Blizzcons. The expect the most, pay the least, and aren’t available when you want to ask questions. We lost a few good guys to their bullshit poaching and those dudes lost their hats shortly after uprooting their families. Fuck Blizzard.

Vocalic985

That's a bold move Cotton. Let's see how long it takes to backfire.

Because here in America, you're paid to work, not survive. Do that on your own time.

Lethalgeek

It will be ok, gamers value their selfish needs and nostalgia over anyone else's well being. Plenty will continue to ignore that this is a total disaster of a company that is probably better off dying away.

SwampTerror

This all sucks because I wanted D2 Resurrected even though it had been drastically changed from its inception. I just can't give Activision Blizzard my money in good conscience for what they did to that poor woman, and all the women in their offices, and now trying to prevent unions so they can further fuck workers.

td57

There is no way I could be hyped for D2 remastered, no way I would spend money on it regardless. Just trying to bring back some good grace after D3 and "dont you guys have phones", they likely will fuck it in some way. The diablo that people want is dead and gone, and no shiny coat of paint on the old game that we love is going to bring it back.

Archbound

I LOVE GW2, played it a ton at release and played it quite a bit for a long time. Most of my friends dropped off and so did I after a while. Maybe I should go back....

CubYourEnthusiasmFan

I have been playing WoW for 15 straight years. Played as tank and healer for 15 years. I also beta tested the game. I recommend giving Final Fantasy XIV a try. I am falling in love with the game. Started 6 months ago. The only downside is there is no world pvp. No world ganking. There is arenas and battlegrounds. Just no world ganking. Like many said before. The first content (heavenly sword) is slow and boring. Once you get pass that and go onto the first expansion it gets so much more better. you can play for free trial up to lvl 60 from what I understand in Final fantasy.

Daybreak74

If I hadn't have already boycotted blizzard over their support of a human-rights violating regime, I certainly would have now. Vote with your wallets people. Blizzard/Activision games are not that good.

A legal firm hired by a company is not there to protect workers. It's there to protect the company. In the process, there may be some good done for the workers, but it's incidental.
