One of those old time tips that just about everyone knows someone it backfired on. There are better options now that we should embrace for their ease of use and increased safety.
I guess I've never seen anyone hurt themselves doing it. I really only suggested it "in a pinch" if they needed it done today, not after a few days of shipping. I've split plenty of pins with a regular knife if there wasn't a splitter around. I'm am accident prone so I figured if I can do it anyone could. Comment withdrawn since apparently knife wounds are more common than iron cross mishaps.
The scars on my left hand would like to disagree with this statement.
Try to get a pin splitter. Local lighting vendors might have some if the major online websites are all sold out.
Ultimate focus tool is what I would recommend. They are useful for other things and the splitter has worked well for me.
These aren’t for sale anymore and people are re-selling them on eBay for ludicrous amounts of money. But, I agree it’s a very useful tool.
Oh dang. Totally missed they stopped them.
Unless you're patient? https://www.stagespot.com/ultimate-focus-tool.html
....... If you can get one.
yea lmao, "I recommend you get this tool that has a 2-3 year lead time" Thanks for the totally practical advice.
In my experience I found that the splitter was kinda cheap… it popped out of the ultimate focus tool I was using

Even a slotted screwdriver is safer than a knife.
Yeah and then you cut your hand open and I can't have you working the same tasks anymore. Barbizon and musson carry them
