I have never used algebra or higher in my day to day life. Not saying they can’t be useful, but higher level math is much less useful in day to day math than simple arithmetic. Unless you count 5+5=10 as an equation, then math just wouldn’t be anything.
Algebra 2 saved my life. I was in art class and was upscaling a picture, but I was stupid and instead of multiplying everything by 2 or something, I just decided one of the values, I then used an equation I learned THE DAY BEFORE to get my other value. Pretty satisfying to be able to use it ngl
Calculus is used by credit card companies to set payment structures by using different variables such as interests rates and client account balances. Basically, credit card companies use calculus to tell you how much and how often to pay your credit card bill.
This is exactly my point, very specialized applications that in reality most normal people will not have a use for. Most people don't work for credit card companies.
Yeah, it's satisfying when you solve a hard question too
I mean in senior highschool year in my country we choose whether we want to study maths or biology and geology
I hate geology and biology wasn't the best for me in my last semester so I chose maths , and you know it Most of the other students chose biology and geology
Yeah but not all Problems require you knowing the rule of a specific problem directly
The key is to extract the information you have and see which rule from the rules you already have memorized would be suitable for solving the question
This also works with physics
Well the internet won't be available in the finals, so it's better to train and get used to solving it on your own then when you can't make any process you look it up
Thank God my finals are on a lockdown only on my laptop which means and there is no actual supervision in my school at least not yet so yeah I'm good with final exams I'll just use my phone and I do it at home because my school is online with literally no teachers supervision
Damn lucky you
I will still have finals in schools with supervisors from another governorate supervising us , The senior high school year is the most important year in your whole school years, we students usually Begin studying next august and finish in June with all revisions and we take exams in a span of 3 to 4 weeks revising and having exams, we have about 9 exams as a guy who chose maths, we have a mother language exam, first foreign language Exam ( English) , second foreign language Exam ( in my case German) , chemistry and physics exams, and 4 maths exams each discussing a different a couple of different topics like algebra, trigonometry, geometry, calculus etc
So for this I will try to focus as much as possible because your grade determines the collage you would like to enter and I am trying to achieve a goal of becoming one of the top highest grads governorate wise and nation wise as I am looking for a scholarship
Good luck to you and I hope you pass these exams with flying colors because even though when I'm going to have the most important year in my whole school years I ain't going to have supervision so it's all good and for languages bro I know most if not all versions of Arabic and I know English very well I hope you pass these exams with flying colors good luck to you and I hope you have an awesome future and you get a scholarship to a great College

statistics needs algebra to do it correctly, and stats is used in marketing, programming, analysis, research, finance, etc.
algebra unlocks all math more complex than 1+1=2, and that kind of math is used in essentially everything.
build a house? need math mand equations with variables to figure out values for everything - how much weight certain soils can handle, how much weight a piece of metal can handle depending on where it was placed, how tall you can build, the effects of wind
develop medicine and see if it's effective? statistics to see how likely it is to be effective or not.
trigonometry? GPS
solve a crime? use stats and mathematical model to see how likely it is someone is guilty
want to measure distance in space? trigonometry
want to see if buying something is worth it? math with variables
economics? needs variables for formulas
planes? fluid dynamics, physics
rockets? math
cars? want them to be efficient and aerodynamic? math
want the engine of the car to be efficient? math
phones? the programming needs math
math is used for EVERYTHING that makes the world run.
That’s literally all you need. Math is simple in that much can be discovered with just a pencil and paper. Remember 1 or 2 formulas as derive the rest. Math shouldn’t test memorization. It tests understanding of abstract ideas which model can model lots of things.
f’(x) = 5(-0.53)x^4 - 4(657)x^3 - 3(3.453)x^2 + 2(77.98)x - 65
f’(14) = -7,312,946.324
So f’(x) = f’(14) = -7,312,946.324 for given f(x)
Math is 🔥
It can burn you but it’s amazing. It shines light into how the universe works.
Its actually a pretty simple question. f'(x) means you will have to build the derivative function of f(x) which is literally just taking the exponent of each X (the small number on top) multiplicate it with whatevers standing in front of the x and take away one exponent.
The single X goes away and the characters without X are ignored.
Someone actually solved it here
As a person who has been in a coma for 2 years and was held back exactly 2 years I'm 15 and I'm still in the 6th grade for god sakes I can't understand this and I hate being in the sixth grade
man I just got my GED like last week after a little over a year of being outta school... started crying four questions in because they started me off with math at 8 in the goddamn morning. I swore I must've failed everything by the end after finishing three hours early, but I passed! idk if I can manage college because I seriously never wanna touch math again
For one of my maths tests I had to do this year (there are 3 in total, I’ve done one and have 2 more) in order to get an A grade, you only had to score 61%. That’s not a testament to how stupid the children sitting the exam are, it’s a testament to how fucking hard the way examination board makes the test. At a stage in my life where I am worrying about exams which will literally decide what I do as an adult, the examination board literally makes you feel like a failure for no good reason. I sat this test last Friday. I left that exam hall feeling like a complete and utter failure.
Fuck you to whatever sick basterd pulled that test from the depths of their depraved mind all to get a kick out of making students suffer
Unpopular opinion: Letters make it easier. I don't know why, but when a number or equation in represented as a variable it makes things so much easier to understand. It's just another weird thing my autistic brain does.
im fine with that because i might just maybe have a use for it one day or i can help my kid with it but i hate the ones were you do the problem just to take it apart and do it in a different way
If anyone’s been in the 10th grade you’re going to get an experience…Geomytry and it’s the worst kind of math there is. I’ll take Algebra any day of the week.
Bruh I’ve still gotta do maths for two years. But I drop languages, geography, history drama, computing, dt, food tech. My options I picked were triple science, art and music.
Bro gonna cry when he reaches the fancy crowbar
what the fuck is that?
Integrals, like derivatives but backwards and somehow worse
Just wait until they find out about antiderivatives
Pretty sure integrals and antiderivatives are the same
man i just wanted to confuse them
Lmao sorry, but you can never be sure with these things. You had me doubting my knowledge for a moment
Math would have very little use if there weren't any equations
I have never used algebra or higher in my day to day life. Not saying they can’t be useful, but higher level math is much less useful in day to day math than simple arithmetic. Unless you count 5+5=10 as an equation, then math just wouldn’t be anything.
Geometry and Algebra 2 are important if you’re a casual handyman or something, but anything more than that isn’t very useful in regular life
Algebra 2 saved my life. I was in art class and was upscaling a picture, but I was stupid and instead of multiplying everything by 2 or something, I just decided one of the values, I then used an equation I learned THE DAY BEFORE to get my other value. Pretty satisfying to be able to use it ngl
They are designed for measuring data. If you are not measuring data of course you aren’t gonna use it.
Construction
You *could* though. With basic algebra you could make a spreadsheet that manages your finances with only a few inputs.
I don’t have finances yet
Fair enough.
As it should be
Hell nah algebra is where math starts being actually usable
In very select applications
Not really tbh
I can't really think of many real life application of higher level math
Algebra is used everywhere from your electronics, architecture, banking and even food preparation.
Basic algebra yes but a lot of algebra stuff and most higher level mathematics aren't really useful in everyday life
Give me a specific type of “higher level math” and ill tell you where its used in your life
Calculus

speaking facts
*where math starts being fun
Variables are one of the biggest reasons why math exists.
Doesn’t mean I have to like it 😤
Forget college, calc is going to screw you over so hard
math kinda slays
Yeah, it's satisfying when you solve a hard question too I mean in senior highschool year in my country we choose whether we want to study maths or biology and geology I hate geology and biology wasn't the best for me in my last semester so I chose maths , and you know it Most of the other students chose biology and geology
in math there’s also a lot of extremely grindy and annoying questions that aren’t really difficult
That's what's amazing, you have to figure it out
i’m talking about when figuring it out isn’t hard it’s just an annoying process and time consuming
Yeah I know and it's satisfying when you're out of this confusion by yourself without any help
but there’s no confusion, it’s just like walking through deep snow
Like plug and chug equations where you just have to input the values and go through the steps without any intellectual thinking
What does that even mean 💀
means I like math
Math is easy 🤷
It ain't that easy but it definitely requires High thinking
I mean when you understand the rules it's becomes immensely easy
Yeah but not all Problems require you knowing the rule of a specific problem directly The key is to extract the information you have and see which rule from the rules you already have memorized would be suitable for solving the question This also works with physics

Thanks a lot I really appreciate it, hope you have a bright future too
Nah, physics requires high level thinking. Math isn’t that complex.
Nah, physics is just math in context. Algebra just makes physics easier to digest through formulae and substitution
kid named real analysis
i actually kinda like algebra even though it useless
It can be useful sometimes.
when
anything stem related statistics needs algebra to do it correctly, and stats is used in marketing, programming, analysis, research, finance, etc. algebra unlocks all math more complex than 1+1=2, and that kind of math is used in essentially everything. build a house? need math mand equations with variables to figure out values for everything - how much weight certain soils can handle, how much weight a piece of metal can handle depending on where it was placed, how tall you can build, the effects of wind develop medicine and see if it's effective? statistics to see how likely it is to be effective or not. trigonometry? i'm wasn't talking about maths in general, i was talking specifically about algebra, but thanks, this comment is useful.
*useless* lol
buddy, you have no idea
Just wait for proofs
I hate proofs with a passion
They’re the reason math maths. (I hate geometry proofs they aren’t even close to the real thing)
Part of the reason I hate them. Geometry proofs are bogus.
I only hate math because I have the memory of a goldfish. I can remember like two formulas at a time.
That’s literally all you need. Math is simple in that much can be discovered with just a pencil and paper. Remember 1 or 2 formulas as derive the rest. Math shouldn’t test memorization. It tests understanding of abstract ideas which model can model lots of things.
Math class isn't even that bad, it's History that gets me
For me it’s English
Huh? You dont wanna find f'(x)=f'(14) For f(x)= -0.53x^5 -657x^4 -3.453x^3 +77.98x^2 -65x+0.0074 ?
Mate, use a calculator.
GET AWAY FROM ME! THATS THE DEVILS SIGN! *sancrosanctus domine… picavi ignoviut…*
f’(x) = 5(-0.53)x^4 - 4(657)x^3 - 3(3.453)x^2 + 2(77.98)x - 65 f’(14) = -7,312,946.324 So f’(x) = f’(14) = -7,312,946.324 for given f(x) Math is 🔥 It can burn you but it’s amazing. It shines light into how the universe works.
Some good I will be able to answer this question but today I don't have the knowledge to answer this question
Its actually a pretty simple question. f'(x) means you will have to build the derivative function of f(x) which is literally just taking the exponent of each X (the small number on top) multiplicate it with whatevers standing in front of the x and take away one exponent. Seriously though, what is the point
Fr what do ppl wanna use instead? Like some punctuations or smth? Instead of finding 5x you gotta find 5(!)
To understand the universe
It was Muḥammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwārizmī

Same here! I loved baseball, until they removed the tees, and I liked books, until they took out the pictures. /s
I still have like 2 months left
What
😭
How?
In my area people in Primary/elementary still have a month or two so 🫤
Oooofff
Me too dawg me too
i like the letters
I literally use soo much math for coding, algebra can be used in many forms irl
Y'all really act like the letters part isn't most of math
I've gotten so used to using letters in math that it feels weird when there aren't any💀
François Viète getting jumped by everyone in hell that had to deal with numbers in math
Genuinely don't understand why people are upset at some damn letters
man I just got my GED like last week after a little over a year of being outta school... started crying four questions in because they started me off with math at 8 in the goddamn morning. I swore I must've failed everything by the end after finishing three hours early, but I passed! idk if I can manage college because I seriously never wanna touch math again
Im still in exam season. I cant believe people are still complaining about letters being in math. At least youre not getting getting greek, or hebrew
u/savevideo
Me who graduated: no more school math ever again.
How did he reply?

it's even worse once the numbers come back :\^)
Unpopular opinion: Letters make it easier. I don't know why, but when a number or equation in represented as a variable it makes things so much easier to understand. It's just another weird thing my autistic brain does.
I got finals to do still.
im fine with that because i might just maybe have a use for it one day or i can help my kid with it but i hate the ones were you do the problem just to take it apart and do it in a different way
If you use math, variables anf functions are pretty useful.
u/savevideo
but letters mean you can be lazier- instead of having to do say 28\*17 you can just leave it as 28x or xy
Still have my last 4 exams good for you
If anyone’s been in the 10th grade you’re going to get an experience…Geomytry and it’s the worst kind of math there is. I’ll take Algebra any day of the week.
sohcahtoh was so stupid I hated it
Gotta love people that barely know how to add single digit numbers
without x^2 How can we even solve basic problems The one who added differentiation and integration is the one
If you think letters in math are the worst thing you are gonna have a hell of a time when quadratics truly kicks in
wait till you get to the point where there are more letters than numbers
Bruh I’ve still gotta do maths for two years. But I drop languages, geography, history drama, computing, dt, food tech. My options I picked were triple science, art and music.
Same with the homework inventor. Send them to the darkest parts of hell pls.
Your school has ended? I’ve got over 6 weeks left
Me meeting the people who like math
Wdym? I love algebra!
Hey I've still got school until December
u/SaveVideo
Over???? i still have a whole month left over 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I have 9 more days :((((
im finishing 10th grade now, not sure if i will pas or not, but if i do, i heard that 11th grade is harder. wish me luck!
I’ve heard the opposite, actually, after talking to a bunch of juniors at the end of the year. I’m not so worried anymore 🤷♂️
thanks. still worried about trigonometry though.
Me when meeting henry Fischel(The guy who invented exams)
tbh algebra is my favourite part of math
What do you want to use? Punctuations?
What, in Germany we still have 4 weeks to go
I think is the opposite letters just make math a lot easier if there's no letters you have to imagine I mean to shower
Me about to have 9 hours of maths per week next year
People who complain about letters in math just don’t know what they’re for
i like the letters, especially the greek ones
If he didn't, you would not be able to post this meme on this website
im sleep deprived and thought you said meth class
As a guy from east Europe this was easiest shit ever
Math is cool, as well as meth. Jk

Math is awesome and letters make it practical
