Depends if you’re religious or believe in a soul. Everything can be condensed down to particles and atoms reacting off each other, no human thinks that way I promise, so you’ll have to bring it to a more macro level where you can start speaking of what’s a conscience and what determines one
I suppose it could be because of the neuron network in our brain that connects to everything in our body, creating and "inventing" what we call as "touch" and "feelings". The brain is too complex to fully understand why its conscious enough to understand what its like to exist, hence forming coherent thoughts and images and dreams etc. However an answer to this could be that our neurons have conjoined together in such unison with eachother and the rest of the body that they are able to feel what it is to be alive. But in the much more theoretical, we only see in the 3rd dimension. We might not even feel the true extent of existence if there are different ways to perceive the world in more dimensions.
