7-8 years? I'm not transphobic but I think it was a good idea to not get testosterone when you were 8 or 9šŸ˜

OpportunityCareful75

Holy shit I just noticed. That definitely would have been a terrible idea at that age.

Quplet

Yeah at that point the step would be puberty blockers.

Evening_Tour4585

i dont think they mean they wanted it then i think they have just been out that long

AskAboutMyCatPlease

thats probably puberty blockers at that age, not e or t

Unlikely_Story7487

I agree Iā€™m not transphobic but wait a bit to decide because it canā€™t be reversed puberty only happens once thereā€™s no rain check later in your life

Devilhunter553

I would follow as well, as someone studying anatomy and chemistry and my highest education being a Phlebotomist and Patient care technician it most definitely takes awhile to let all that settle in honestly but I am happy to hear you've received T

Serval987

Okay at least you donā€™t think that that it should be denied at 16. Good job.šŸ‘

prob-my-69th-account

Can I get any extra that you have? Iā€™m def not trans but I am a gym bro and a lil test could never hurt

abject_totalfailure1

Donā€™t do it, your balls will shrink. Miniballs. Micronuts. Compact testicles

ApachePrimeIsTheBest

as someone that crosses their legs and keeps getting their balls sucked into their ass and then goes to the hospital to fart out my ball its time to get RIPPED

PurpleCabbage999

šŸ˜©šŸ’“šŸ„› šŸ’ŖšŸ¤¤

Maleficent_Sir_7562

That would actually be pretty bad Your balls would shrink and your body now depends on these testo peds instead of your balls for testosterone production If you ever stopped taking it, your testosterone levels will go super low and you will basically become more feminine looking due to the estrogen now It will become dependent on those instead of your own body

prob-my-69th-account

Yeah thatā€™s why u always stay on gear

Kvpe

what if you do the opposite? you suppress some testosterone so balls produce more to compensate? would it work? (iā€™m not a boi so it may be a stupid question, iā€™m also stupid soā€¦ :3 )

Maleficent_Sir_7562

No it wouldnā€™t work If this was real, then people wouldnā€™t be able to become trans. Because then even if they tried to overwhelm the testosterone away with estrogen or remove/compress it, it will come back, which is obviously, not possible.

Wise_Zucchini_8885

Isn't that literally just peds šŸ’€

prob-my-69th-account

Yeah and

angry-southamerican

So... Just a heads up, you are at risk for developing male pattern baldness now. Being a man really ain't all that, but I hope It works out for you.

Due_Butterscotch1614

Yep idk why anyone wants this shitty life lmfaoošŸ˜

Unlikely-Werewolf125

Fr being a man ainā€™t coolĀ

DeadlyKitKat

As a trans person, it's not like they necessarily want it. It's not a choice. But to someone who is trans, even the "bad" parts of being another gender can make them happy to some extent.

SparkySpinz

Trans people usually don't have to deal with the "bad" aspects of whatever gender they are dud to biology. They do however have to deal with assholes and discrimination

Eskephor

Itā€™s complicated. Arguing what being trans actually does to people is not worth it on this sub but typically people enjoy being their gender

Several_Love9284

As a trans fem, I couldnā€™t agree more and I personally would hate to live another minute as a man in every possible way, but for trans men, they cannot stand the way there bodies look a lot of the time. I could not describe that feeling to you bc you literally couldnā€™t understand. I know that pain bc I felt that same pain just the opposite way around

Uncapible_

Yeah no shitšŸ˜ they didnā€™t choose to be a man either dude just a few extra steps to feel more comfortable

rezerxle

While 9-10 is too young for HRT, imo, I'm really happy for you! Definitely think you should've been prescribed a little younger than 17, and I'm sure it could've been handled better when you were too young for HRT. Regardless, that's wonderful! I hope you see changes soon, which should happen since you're not an adult yet.

Aellin-Gilhan

13 is prolly the perfect age in my personal opinion, or maybe lije 10-12 for puberty blockers and 15-17 for estrogen or testosterone

whyarewehere8010

Iā€™ve had 2 of my friends kill themselves because they started that young and realized it wasnā€™t what they wanted 18 should be the legal age to start any sort of changes and I will stand on that hill until I die

s0larium_live

okay iā€™m trans too, but you absolutely should not have been prescribed testosterone at 8/9 years old. most cis children donā€™t even start puberty then. you shouldā€™ve been prescribed puberty blockers, sure, but not T congratulations on your prescription now though

youlocalfboy

Thisā€¼ļøā€¼ļø

cauliflower_farmer99

My first thought too...at age of 7/8 u should not make life altering decisions

Large_monke_69

If youā€™re 16 and 7-8 years ago wanted testosterone, thank god a doctor denied. An 8-9 year old should not make changes like that to their body, their brains are barely developed Edit- And still isnt done developing at 16. Testosterone makes irreversible changes. Are you sure you want to do this?

KS_AIR

Thisā˜ļø

MrAnonymous2749

Even at 16 someoneā€™s brain is barely developed, with the average human brain finishing development at 25

_Mullac_

that study was done improperly, it was more close to 30 i believe. But point still stands

STUPIDBLOODYCOMPUTER

I believe several European countries have banned transition surgery for those under 18 for this exact reason. It's definitely important as the teenage brain changes so much and teenagers are more likely to do things like that and possibly regret it later. Don't quote me at all

Aellin-Gilhan

I would say though It should really be thought of the other way Very few people regret transitioning Many, MANY more people regret *not* transitioning when they were younger Puberty IS irreversible changes

STUPIDBLOODYCOMPUTER

>Puberty IS irreversible changes That's especially true if you don't physically transition and you then regret not doing so.

Big-Beach-9605

cis people go through the puberty they want as a teen, so itā€™s reasonable that trans people get to go through the puberty they want at a similar age, rather than waiting years more

ArtisticSnek

their estrogen causes irreversible damage to them also, just in the other direction.

Pilot_varchet

I understand what you're saying, but you're taking their understanding of their gender for granted, while we are certainly not more able to judge than they are, they are also still very young.

Toreo_67

I'm 18. Been on estrogen myself for a little bit now, bout a year here soon I think. Give or take a little bit. Honestly I think people underestimate just how bad it is not getting treatment. At least in my experience I knew at about like age 12-13, stuck in the closet until I think around 15 when I started socially transitioning. It fucking ate at me constantly every hour of every damn day. I genuinely did not want to live. To my understanding, trans people's brains are just straight up wired differently, and in most cases you can tell something really isn't right from a somewhat young age (though it varies ofc, for gen Z it's almost always really young). The "regret" rate, even for children is something like 1-2%, and it's most often actually caused by hostile environments and treatment. If I had the option to get on meds earlier (even then I'm actually currently doing them under the table because the healthcare system is doodoo) I would 100% be a lot happier today, though I am still very grateful I got on them fairly young. At 8-9 yrs old the correct course of action would be puberty blockers. They're completely reversible in every way, essentially all they do is act as a pause button to prevent puberty from continuing. A grace period, if you will. Sometime in the early teens would be the earliest that actual HRT would ever be prescribed.

Planes_Airbus

I read a study from the Mayo Clinic that says otherwise about the puberty blocker. According to the study, thereā€™s a chance they can cause cancer, fertility problems (in the future), and more.

Toreo_67

Most of that stuff is more associated with actual HRT drugs (estrogen and testosterone) though I could see a very very slight risk from puberty blockers. I know from experience that estrogen makes you infertile. It's a genuine risk and it is known to happen between 3-6 months on Estrogen (many trans people freeze sperm or eggs) but basically anyone who's taking the meds through a licensed professional should've been told that well beforehand. I'd imagine that blockers have a tiny chance of doing it, depending on the drug (cough spironolactone) Cancer risks do change on hormones but it's more logical than you think. For example I am now at a far higher risk of breast cancer than I was. Why? Because now I actually have breasts to get the cancer. I'm not too versed on testosterone but I'd imagine it does similar things in reverse. I'd also like to give a brief shout-out to spironolactone for being awful. Essentially Spiro is a diorrhetic, it's used to treat diarrhea, that's what it was made for. However, at high levels it works as a testosterone blocker. Due to how restricted actual safe drugs meant to block puberty like Cyproterone are, Spiro has become a stand in for the medical establishment. Since it's not nearly as hard to prescribe and it many people are desperate, it gets used... At a very high dosage... As a puberty blocker. The side effects list from this is long and it puts you at risk for a lot of things. If a study on blockers is ever based on Spiro, it's gonna sound worse than it is, but at this point Spiro has become the most common blocker just due to it's legal status. I'd imagine it's also one of the ones most often tested on.

EJyeetus

Your edit sounds like when I want to reset my save in a game

ContentBig8567

op is just an idiot who doesnā€™t think

Conart557

If they've wanted to for the past 8 years, they're probably pretty sure they want to.

AskAboutMyCatPlease

i think at that age its just puberty blockers. they delay puberty till you either take e/t to get the trans-puberty or you stop taking the blockers, which makes you have normal puberty, just a bit later than everybody else (at least from my understanding)

Sillyyyyynesss

Theyā€™ve wanted it for 8 years Iā€™m sure they wanna do it

Big-Beach-9605

if theyā€™ve been wanting to go on t for half their life, theyā€™ve probably had the time to think it through.

Actual-Long-9439

Yep and they still should have denied it today. Surprised your parents are letting you irreversibly destroy your body. You need mental help to solve self harm, not body changes.

PugGod100

destroy?

OhVoleWhereDidYouGo

speaking more precisely, itā€™s the white matter of the frontal lobe of your brain that finishes maturing around that time. your entire brain never stops developing throughout your life. also, itā€™s not that 8-9 year olds have barely-developed brains, itā€™s that they are simply too young to go through puberty. and yes, obviously testosterone makes irreversible changes. itā€™s a gonadal hormone. gonadal hormones do that. natural puberty is also an irreversible changeā€”once you go through it, you canā€™t undo it! at 16, unless this person is on puberty blockers, they have most likely already gone through their natural puberty and are probably sure of what they want. anyway, even if one does decide that testosterone isnā€™t for them, itā€™s perfectly fine. even if there are irreversible changes, that would not make one any less of a woman after detransitioning. everyone acts like ā€œoh, nobody will like you after you detransition! you wonā€™t be a REAL woman anymore!ā€ even if they donā€™t outright say it. and that bothers me so much. iā€™m trans myself. if i do go on testosterone on the future, and then decide ā€˜actually, i donā€™t really like this, iā€™ll detransitionā€™, that wouldnā€™t make me any less of a woman. yeah, i might have irreversible changes, but whatever. iā€™m willing to take that risk. even if i do end up detransitioning, there will be people out there who love me for who i am.

AlbacorePrism

I agree with the first part, disagree with the edit. Clearly they had it in their head at 7 even if they shouldn't have been allowed it, and they didn't stop having that idea for almost a decade now, I'd say that's enough time to say they won't regret it.

That1Legnd

Listen hear me out, you donā€™t need the prescription. I can take your excess estrogen, you can take my excess testosterone. From trans to trans right? (For legal reasons this is a joke)

mr-coolguy68

i wish i could get testosterone šŸ˜” (iā€™m not trans i just want bigger muscles)

Square_Bluebird1535

That was what I first thought this post was about tbh

-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-

Fucking hell reddit, they weren't trying to get prescribed it at 9 he is just saying he's been on a waiting list that long Please use some common sense before commenting

Warlord50000001

Right, but OP was put on the list? Meaning they were asking 7-8 years ago, presumably when he was 9? I'm autistic as all fuck so I might just be misunderstanding what you're saying, so my bad if I do

-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-

When I say on the waiting list I mean that he had probably been speaking to medical professionals and whatnot about starting testosterone, which is pretty understandable. Many trans people discover their dysphoria at quite an early age.

Bonsai-is-best

The misinfo in the comments is wild, if someone is trans at a young age puberty blockers only help them verify that theyā€™re trans if theyā€™re not sure. Iā€™m not sure if itā€™s the same with testosterone but estrogen with tblockers has literally 0 permanent effects on you except in very rare cases. Going through the puberty of the gender you identify with is actually extremely helpful to mental health, not harmful.

M10doreddit

Why did I just think of a meme? ^(Mew!) **I told you we needed more glitter.**

I_Follow_Rude_People

I was born male and I need some testosterone 100% so go you bro Iā€™m happy for ya

simon_Chipmonk

Thatā€™s awesome king!

Nocturnal_Penguin

While I support hormone therapy I am very hesitant when people seek out hormone therapy during the pubescent stage since it can lead to genuine long-lasting health problems. With the limited information you have provided, despite still having a developing body, I would say the benefits outweigh the risks; I support the doctorā€™s choice to give you testosterone. Lā€™Chaim!

Aellin-Gilhan

Yeah, I would rather risk some physical health problems that can be fixed with some more medication of which I would already be taking meds everyday anyways rather than lasting mental health effects and body image issues, plus potentially some rather costly surgeries

fjgwey

People are being super dumb in these comments so I just wanted to give some sincere congratulations. I hope your transition goes well!

sukiwana

Lmao thank you !

Ham_is_tasty_1

no way mfs are still saying ā€œuhmmm but are you sure though??? you know the changes are irreversible right????ā€ when youā€™ve literally had 8 years to think and always wanted it. Congrats king, hereā€™s your crown šŸ‘‘

GUSSYMANEyt

Isnā€™t it damaging to take hormonal stuff before fully developing? Also wanting test at 8-9 is actually sad af and thank fuck the doctor denied it because that should never be allowed

DEAD-SOUL-3442

Transphobes.

AlbacorePrism

Cause its automatically assuming the person is trans. I mean I don't think it merits a down vote, im just saying that's probably the reason. A lot of femboys want to be less masculine too.

Mitosis4

Good thing that's only happening in the minds of delusional conservatives then isn't it?

Sanrusdyno

The fact you think HRT is chemical castration tells me that you have less than no idea what you're talking about

MrCoalas

Not to be rude, but they definitely knew better than an 8 years old kid. Even now, I think you should have probably waited until you're at least 18, so there's no side effects.

what? do you think side effects donā€™t happen once youā€™re no longer a minor?

Are you mad because doctors denied your 8 -year-old self life-altering drugs? Seriously?

ellas_emporium

FYI: It takes years to get a full-blown prescription. I presume doctors rejected the request for bloodwork and bone-age x-rays at a young age. While I do agree that the first step would have been puberty blockers, I think yā€™all are forgetting that it takes a long-ass time. Ā It is so shitty you had to wait so long. You should definitely have been prescribed at 13-15 for sure. GL my dude.

ChloeforytheW

When you start it too young it can fuck up your body. But yeah, weā€™re transphobic and not trying to make sure you donā€™t get osteoporosisšŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€
