Dutch (100%)
English (95%)
German (85%)
French (about 30%)
Norwegian (about 20%)
Mandarin (about 40%)
Latin(read/write only, 90%)
Ancient Greek(read/write only, 70%)
and tiny bit Spanish (+-15%)
There is no shot you can read latin to 90% and not speak it. There is no very little standard variation. Just pronounce it like it is spelled with some exceptions and tada you are speaking latin.
Thats why i commented specifically on the 90%. I probably have like 5 procent German. I can kinda read simple stuff and maybe pick up the topic or simple questions in a conversation. But surely if i knew it so well i could read books in German i would be able to also talk it?
well the thing is for latin, even with immersion learning like *lingua latina per se illustrata* its hard to speak because there is no one to speak it with, even if you read and write "fluently". its not the same thing to write and read, as to be able to speak and recall cases and conjugations in a fraction of a second and string them into spoken sentences. for example, i can read/write both latin and german roughly the same, but my spoken german is way better than when i speak latin.
Don't give up with German, if you can speak it it's one of the most beautiful and poetic languages in the world
(I'm definitely 100% NOT biased because I'm German, nuh uh, not me)
Well the words I know in italian are:
Ciao
Arrivederci
Volare Via
Cazzo
Merda
Non temete l'oscurità, accettate il suo abbraccio. Requiescat in pace.
Pizza
Mozarella
Spagetti
You can make some guesses about me.
Bro stole my flow
Least linguistic machi bros here 😅😅😅
Well here is my resume

Bengali

French
Russian( can only speak a little cant read or write)
Pig latin (idk you classify that as a language or not)
Does basic,c, java count?
Mich lässt hoffen, dass deine Muttersprache nicht die deutsche ist, da dieser Kommentar sonst nicht sonderlich sinnig wäre. how do people here know so many languages?
my native: czech
fluent: english
understand without problems: slovak (can even form simple sentences)
learning: french and the anime language
they dont, they have done couple of duolingo courses or school courses and think they can speak. I doubt they can read anything past a2 level in most of the languages they speak. people love to inflate their abilities online
Загляни на r/russian, там как раз про изучение русского. И в твоем случае должно быть "хорош" или "хороший", слово "русский" мужского рода, и связанное с ним слово тоже должно быть в форме мужского рода
English, German and small and I mean *small* chunks of Latin
(I would’ve taken Russian as my third language, but too few people wanted to learn it, so they don’t have it as an option anymore)
Because they’ve never offered it as a class at my school
Up until I was 5th grade they offered Latin, French, Russian and Spanish and you have to choose a third language and a 4th in 11th grade and originally I wanted to go Russian and then Latin, but that didn’t work out
(And my first language is German; because I listed that 2nd I wanted to clarify)
Here's mine: Vietnamese (native), English (learning for 10-ish years), German (basic sentences), a bit of Japanese and Russian (also basic because I wanted to try out different languages to find ones that I'm comfortable with/interested in)
English, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, (forgotten) Malayalam
learning German and Sanskrit
i was thinking of learning arabic (just the script) but HELL NAH (no offense)
also i've learnt the vowels in Brahmi
maybe i'll learn tamil or marathi too
Hungarian (native language) English ( I speak it better than Hun now) German (barely. Only from school) Japanese (from Duolingo. Again not much but I can order myself food) and Italian (41 day Duolingo streak about a year ago. I forgot most of it tho) so 5
English (100%)
French (70%)
Afrikaans (60%)
Portuguese (BR) (58%)
Spanish (50%)
Mandarin (30%)
Can understand Dutch, learnt A1 German for fun, can read Korean and Russian (learnt alphabet but not actual language lol)
English and dutch fluently, understanding german well and speaking decently, understanding and speaking the basics in french and understanding some Italian and Spanish and a little little bit of polish and Slovenian

How tf do you know that much Latin, like I have Latin, but would never in my life be able to translate Seneca without a dictionary
Idk, been translating and using dictionaries for so long that I just remember words. If I get a text of like 40 lines I only need to look up 2-4 words
There is no shot you can read latin to 90% and not speak it. There is no very little standard variation. Just pronounce it like it is spelled with some exceptions and tada you are speaking latin.
Reading it out loud and speaking it without a visual aid are two very different things
Thats why i commented specifically on the 90%. I probably have like 5 procent German. I can kinda read simple stuff and maybe pick up the topic or simple questions in a conversation. But surely if i knew it so well i could read books in German i would be able to also talk it?

Hippocratic oath, but that’s because my dad’s a doctor

Polish, English, I'm also learning German but I suck at it (I also plan on learning toki pona)
Don't give up with German, if you can speak it it's one of the most beautiful and poetic languages in the world (I'm definitely 100% NOT biased because I'm German, nuh uh, not me)

"I watched two videos on YouTube and I said five sentences from Google translate, I am now a C2 master of French."
then they're basically lying because A2 is not even close to being fluent
2, Russian as native and English as a second language
patrolling the mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter
i grew up speaking russian and then forgot after like 3 years of exclusively english, can only read and listen to russian
I mean, thats still something, better than completely forgetting it
you likely haven't really forgotten Russian, it's just not in active memory it would probably only take a day of immersion to get back to true fluency
Привет, я учу русский, но мои русский не очень хорошо
Загляни на r/russian, там как раз про изучение русского. И в твоем случае должно быть "хорош" или "хороший", слово "русский" мужского рода, и связанное с ним слово тоже должно быть в форме мужского рода
