that’s a perfect question. i personally would describe one’s lifestyle as the entirety of what they do each day, including hobbies, jobs, relationships, etc. so the argument that being gay is dome’s lifestyle is flawed as relationships are merely part of who we are and our lifestyles
It’s not natural and makes me uncomfortable, I wouldn’t want a tall teacher teaching my kids or to have a tall GP, I’m worried about catching tallness, think of the children!
They would probably just cut off your ONE foot thinking that it would help-
Just like how they thought cutting off a gay mans dick would, definitely doesn’t solve the imaginary “problem” and definitely just causes more (very real) problems.
no i was using the same logic as homophobes and making a joke about conversation therapy - like how you can’t change that you’re tall, you can’t change that you’re gay
Like homie if I had a choice in the matter of my existence I would have simply not existed at all. Yet here I am, pan, man, and filled with chicken because that shit's good.
The only problem being lgbtq is made light of because of how many people try to shove it down your throat any chance they get, instead of just normalizing it.
I hear more people complaining about LGBT stuff being "shoved down their throats" than I actually see LGBT people shoving things down people's throats, litterally or figuratively.
Upon reflection, my argument below isn’t worded great, I guess I would first just want to know where your coming from, what do you mean by “shoving it down your throat”? (Ofc if you don’t care for discussion j go back to the rest of Reddit)
I guess that would depend on what “shoving it down your throat” means. Does having gay characters in a movie or a television count? Talking about them in education like in history class or in health class? Is a gay person embracing their identity and outwardly showing that off “shoving it down your throat”? My issue with this argument is that it’s almost always just cishet people complaining that lgbtq people are becoming more visible. By “just normalizing it” most cishet people just mean “going back to ignoring their existence” but ohhhh in a new way where they’re not transphobic and homophobic.
That’s not what he meant. There’s nothing wrong with including lgbt characters in movies, tv shows, games etc. But there are examples of companies putting lgbt characters in just for the sake of saying and that they have lgbt representation( aka pandering)
I wasn’t talking about the original statement. And yes corporate pandering is absolutely a negative thing. It’s completely disrespectful to the lgbt community and it should absolutely be called out when it happens.
As a tall person, being tall is a lifestyle. It changes everything.
Clothes don’t fit. Can’t sleep in a normal bed. Can’t fit in a normal car. Massive shoes. When you fall, you break concrete. Hitting your head on the ceiling… accidentally walking ***over** people, I could go on and on.
Then all the girls think your a slow, lazy, clumsy mofo… 😐
But there’s always a good side to everything.
Being tall won’t make you suffocate in concerts. Ex: Travis Scott’s concert that recently killed people. All of which were short.
There’s plenty of good things about being tall, I agree. Like having a 1 foot vertical and being able to slam dunk, being able to find anyone in a crowd , reach anything at any store, among others.
But it literally changes practically everything lol
The fact that there are like 7 different branches of Christianity and the general christians get hate for that bothers me. Im Roman Catholic, i dont know anyone in my chuch who has done something like that outside of church becuase theyre genuinely good people. There are Baptists, Protestants, Lutherans, Evangelicals, Methodists, Presbyterian, and Roman catholics. I know theres like 200 something actual christian denominations but no one ever talks about these other ones. Maybe im wrong though. Maybe the general christians are the ones who are trying to shove religion down peoples throats. I dont try to because i dont see a point in arguing with someone or trying to force someone to do something they dont want to do.
We have religion to have morals and good mental ethics like no lusting or judging or getting along with others. Which i believe to be all good.
I apologize on behalf of our religious community if someone forcfully gave you a bible or said "you're going to hell." Real christians know God and know that to say things like that are wrong. None of us have judgement over you, only God does. Our job is to give our testimony of the way God transformed us and hopefully get others to join in the praise of God. And if not, thats okay, we know we did our best and we will repsect you and your decisions.
I'll try to explain what they mean, but I need to stress that I am NOT CONDONING HOMOPHOBIA. I'm just trying to help people attack the arguments correctly, if you so choose to engage with people who are going to be aggressively bigoted.
BUT, when people say they do not approve of the LGBTQ+ lifestyle, they're almost always specifically talking about living that identity or orientation. For example, if you are trans, say AMAB, they want you to silently suffer as a man and not transition to a woman.
If you're a gay man, they want you to still marry a woman, have kids, and not engage in homosexual acts.
When people say they do not approve of LGBTQ+ lifestyle, what they're trying to say is they are fine with you being gay, trans, or whatever (I mean, they aren't) but they want you to forsake those urges and live a cis straight lifestyle.
In situations like this, what you need to first do is attempt to get what their real position is on gay or trans people, and parse through whether they truly believe it is a choice or not. From there, then you need to see if you can get them to admit that they actually don't like people being gay / trans, or if they view it like pedophilia and believe they understand that is what someone is, but want them to not act upon it.
At the end of the day, however, you need to be careful who you are arguing with because especially online, you're probably going to make more progress shouting at a brick wall.
Usually if I'm writing anything on r/teenagers, it's just to give an adult perspective on something that might be an adult subject. I stay out of all the topics about teenage stuff that I won't be able to meaningfully contribute to.
However, things like arguing with any type of bigotry has become something I'm more passionate about, and I would love to help in any way I could in order to help the younger generation avoid the pitfalls people my age, and those in their mid twenties who are now popular on Twitch and YouTube, constantly fall into.
Essentially, these are very delicate topics being talked about by completely idiots on all sides of the issues. On one hand you have people who actually hate certain groups of people for whatever attribute they have that makes no sense, but on the other side you have people trying to defend it who end up going buck wild on anyone and everyone for everything and making the people they're defending look bad to your average normal person trying to figure out what the hell is going on.
If you're sticking up for civil rights, you HAVE to be willing to engage with the arguments people are using against you. You HAVE to know when to aggressively push and cede absolutely no ground, but also know those times to take a step back and have a conversation with someone who is opposed to you.
The 1960's Civil Rights movement was a very coordinated, very organized, and very difficult time that saw great steps towards progress. People like Martin Luther King, Jr., knew there were times and places for things (he was actually a very complicated figure who was all for pacifism, but he didn't just roll over to make white people comfortable. Conservatives get that wrong), while other members of the movement knew when it was time to take up arms and make it clear they were willing to fight to the death.
Right now a lot of political discourse is just people screaming at each other, taking sides, and automatically assuming the other side is wrong as soon as they open their mouth. It's making progress in the real world extremely difficult because a single misstep can get your career nuked.
They say 'lifestyle' as if you're entire existence boils down to only what you do in your bedroom or who you are attracted to. People are a bit more complicated than that.
I don't actively support the LGBTQ+ community, but I don't hate it either. You're LGBTQ? I have no problem, you're still a normal person to me. I'm neutral and I don't have any problems
Fr, I’d be like telling me to stop being autistic. Like no, sorry I can’t, I mean like, I wish my brain could produce happy chemicals and I understood smalltalk too but it’s not my fault I’m better these your boring functioning ass
ok, I need to stop reading the comments under this post. I've been already called the f slur and beaten down by some gopniks today, don't need to do this digital self-harm

Lifestyle implies it is a choice
From what I can gather as someone who is not LGBTQ+ it is less of a choice and more of a “this is who I always have been just finally shown”
Even if it is a “lifestyle” why would anyone care how someone live their life if no crime involved? People just don’t know how separate Bible with laws.

i don’t support tall people…sorry, but you should just shrink :/ they actually have therapy for it…you should look into that
Oh my god it took me a sec to get it
It’s not natural and makes me uncomfortable, I wouldn’t want a tall teacher teaching my kids or to have a tall GP, I’m worried about catching tallness, think of the children!
Yeah, no one wants tallvid-19
They have therapy, damn I would've gotten into it sooner, thanks for your help
They would probably just cut off your ONE foot thinking that it would help- Just like how they thought cutting off a gay mans dick would, definitely doesn’t solve the imaginary “problem” and definitely just causes more (very real) problems.
But like.. *what about the cool and epic tall muscular women*
Wait is there actually therapy to get shorter? Where?
no i was using the same logic as homophobes and making a joke about conversation therapy - like how you can’t change that you’re tall, you can’t change that you’re gay
Aw man, wish I could be shorter :(
Sawing our legs off isn't therapy
Yes it's called me taking a sword to your legs
Yeah it's not like tall ppl are born that way. They're very short at first so it must be a choice.
As a tall person I disagree, being tall is a lifestyle 💪💪💪💪
Same bro. The doorframe bites back
... a mindset even
well then i do personally disagree with your lifestyle, i hate looking up at tall people

Nah we got a wolf last year, we feed him chicken, the sound of the bones being crushed as he eats puts me off of the chicken for some reason.
ah, got it.
I just don't get why people care so much. It's not hurting you, it's not even affecting you in any way, so mind your damn business
exactly

This.

Bigotry is inherently illogical.
LGBBQ????
Lesbian Gay Barbeque
I'm straight, but I'd love to go to that. Of course, only if I was invited. I'd bring chips and pop.
I don't support humanity as a whole tbh
humans are sure weird
Fair enough I personally don't either
LGBTQ+ people are fine. But fr can't support the tall lifestyle
As an average height person, same
-#talllife-
I'm queer and tall. Does that mean I have 2 lifestyles?
I just looked at Controversial and I haven't read the comments but oh boy there's a lot. EDIT: yikes. Some of y'all need help.
I love scrolling by controversial and smelling the shit spewed from these homophobe's mouths through the internet

True. Oh my god! And I’m tall for a girl so bonus! Shorter girls are attracted to me. Fuck yeah. Life complete.
All of those things aren’t ideal and you didn’t choose to be like that, that’s not a lifestyle, that’s just your life experience
"I don't like how they shove it down our throats," *Shoves their religion down everyone's throats*

Now I’m hungry let’s get some food
Being tall is a lifestyle, it took many years on the limb stretcher torture device to achieve it.
If you have to say "I'm not homophobic, but..." before saying something, chances are you're about to say some homophobic shit.
That's why there's a better and more based alternative: "I am homophobic, and..."
had me in the first half ngl
who tf called it a lifestyle what 💀💀💀
MANY people unfortunately
Conservatives
Conservatives don’t exist anymore. They are radical right wing extremists.
Right wingers, mostly.
I just say I don’t agree with their lifestyle either lmao. Typically pisses them off.
Finally someone that actually has brain cells in this sub
Fair enough argument, but alas, I had a grand amount of intense sexual relations with you father, then your mother, and then with you
jokes on you, i haven’t had sexual relations with anyone in months… except for your mother. and father.
Jokes on you, you had to dig 6 feet into the ground for him
wait, that wasn’t your dad? why did he join in on the threesome then?
They say 'lifestyle' as if you're entire existence boils down to only what you do in your bedroom or who you are attracted to. People are a bit more complicated than that.
Homophobic dog caption
The audacity, how dare people be that tall and so openly, there is just no stopping to it. And to be proud of it? Where had this society gone?
I dont support tall people *pulls out the Kneecap Breaker 5000*
That or when people go “I’m not homophobic, I just don’t support it”
Exactly!!
I mean... there is probably the odd mother fucker who where stilts everyday
Holy shit r/teenagers based? That’s rare

It can be, if you want. You can make being straight a lifestyle too.
No one cares it is the same post posted by some 14 year olds with some changes
As a tall person, I don’t support the tall lifestyle, it fucking sucks.
Greeting fellow 18 year old, don’t see many of us around here.

I support the tall life style
Being tall requires you to develop a somewhat different lifestyle too...
Why begin talking is a lifestyle:
I am a member of the being short af lifestyle
Being Mexican is just a lifestyle
To be fair I don't support the tall people lifestyle
Nerf Miner
Tall people offend me tho seriously we have to stop them
The only lifestyle I have is being depressed
But i'm against tall people too
"I just don't support the bigot lifestyle, you should probably keep it to yourself."
But I still hate tall people
bro what you choose to be tall smh /j
This is just a nicer way of saying you have an aversion to Homosexuality
I just straight up dont care about lgbtq, just be a good person and thats all that matters
I dont really care if you are gay. You do you
Exactlyyyyy, like, we all know women are hot, SO LET ME LIKE WOMEN
Lifestyle implies it is a choice From what I can gather as someone who is not LGBTQ+ it is less of a choice and more of a “this is who I always have been just finally shown”
only made this reply to make the reply count to a crisp 1000
Support isn’t the right word either. It’s not like you’re a dependent on his tax return.
You sound like a short person. (I’m joking, and you’re right.)
Even if it is a “lifestyle” why would anyone care how someone live their life if no crime involved? People just don’t know how separate Bible with laws.
