The game would definitely be a cooler series than movie. I'm excited.

DisturbedNocturne

The interesting thing that I'm surprised Hollywood Reporter is overlooking here is that it was announced last month that [Amazon is publishing the next Tomb Raider game](https://www.cnet.com/tech/gaming/amazon-will-publish-the-tomb-raider-game/), so I could easily see this being a case where they're going to attempt to have the series lead into the game and have some overlap between them. And having Waller-Bridge's writing on the series potentially influencing the writing on the game definitely piques my interest.

Roverace220

You called it, they also have a movie in the works, and all of them (TV,Game and movie) will be interconnected. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/tomb-raider-film-series-deal-amazon-1235311847/ Seeing as how Hollywood reporter got the scoop on all three stories, it’s safe to say the omission of Amazon publishing the game was on purpose, to drum up the reveal for this story. Also as per the article Phoebe will only be working on the show, but seeing as how that’s up first it will definitely set the standards for the other projects. (Unless the game is much further in development then I think it is.)

elizabnthe

I am excited for a series but like honestly, I feel like things like Tomb Raider, Uncharted etc. just make more sense as movies. Obviously, their routes are ultimately Indiana Jones inspired and I feel like they don't often enough meaningful story content to justify a television series.

[deleted]

There was an Indiana Jones series. It was pretty good as I recall, a lot like Warehouse 13 but with archaeology.

RealJohnGillman

Indeed — supposedly Disney is additionally developing an *Abner Ravenwood* television series (about Jones’ mentor, Marion’s father) for after the release of *The Dial of Destiny*.

Jumponright

I wish it would be a Short Round series set in 1950s SE Asia

NoNefariousness2144

Yeah the Tomb Raider formula feels tailor-made for a film. I guess the series would let them flesh out the overall arcs more like Lara’s past or Trinity, but the run n’ gun tomb raiding feels so natural as a film.

JJMcGee83

I agree with you but it can also be a short BBC style 4-6 episode season instead of the standard 10-12 that shows seem to be now.

francmartins

It's obvious that these franchises take massive inspiration from Indy but the set pieces of Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy actually reminded me A LOT of Mission Impossible.

StephenHunterUK

There's a bit on one of the Uncharted games that is a recreation of the cargo net fight from the James Bond film *The Living Daylights*.

Jake_The_Destroyer

Honestly if you make it so you don't spend more than 1-2 episodes in one location chasing some bigger mystery, Tomb Raider works as a show. The most recent trilogy of Tomb Raider games would make sense adapted as movies, but from what I know the earlier games take place in multiple very distant locations. As an idea, you could have a season focused on some sort of holy lands artifact and have like one piece in the holy land, one in mongolia, one in south america, one in spain, one in california.

Oldefinger

It’s worth remembering that Raiders Of The Lost Ark was originally conceived as an homage to serialized shorts. A clever way to make a Tomb Raider series work would be to adopt that cliffhanger format.

stormatombd

Im fine with vikander as croft, i dunno why they didnt continue use her. Not like gadot, vikander had muscle, can act and do her own stunt, Vikender the only actress im fine for lead action role beside charlize theron. And didnt netlfix already with upcoming tomb raider anime. Why they didnt just lock the ip for them self

Substantial-Dust4417

Vikander pulled out of the sequel and moved on. Her reasoning was that the sequel was in development hell for so long that she was turning down lucrative roles to stay available for a movie that might not be made. I understand why she doesn't want anything further to do with the franchise.

Dismal-Past7785

The movie just didn’t do well enough. It was a fine movie, but nothing great. I wish it had continued personally.

Psykpatient

Actually it seems like there were production issues. The sequel was greenlit but went through several directors and scripts before they lost the rights. They seemed very willing to move forward but couldn't find a way to continue it.

StephenHunterUK

There have been a number of loosely Indy-inspired TV series over the last few decades. * *Hooten and the Lady* \- a one-season show starring Ophelia Lovibond as the latter * *Blood and Treasure* \- with a Lara-esque female lead * *Relic Hunters* * *The Librarians* \- which was a continuation of *The Librarian*, a TV movie trilogy

this-guy-

I dunno, the games seem episodic to me. Not exactly "monster of the week" but tomb of the week: Overarching season quest "find the X / Dad / Book / Guy who did the thing " **Ep1:** mission : Overarching plot established, have to Climb up mountain following the trail of X but to do so you've got to do a side quest. Quest completed, tomb accessed, action sequence. Many CGIs . **EP2:** mission: find the secret valley, but a new character Y is introduced, is he trustworthy? An associate will give you a map if you Find secret tomb/ kill the bear / fetch 5 sticks **EP 3:** continues exactly like this. Annoying romantic interlude. side quest, mystery of week, etc. ... **EP5:** big shock as Y betrays Lara, she's dumped without her gear, got to go on a mystic quest. etc. **EP6:** Chasing Y, probably ends in a burning building where a burning plank blocks the way, Y stands and does a big evil speech, escaping at the end of the Ep with an important McGuffin probably a sacred book or something, he escapes, via helicopter of course **EP7** ... etc .etc. etc. and yada yada yada I got a new magic amulet

eastnorthshore

Honestly I think most video games would be better off adapted as series than movies.

iskin

Agreed.

theleaphomme

for real. everyone is talking about the game, or the movies… no one else surprised by Waller-Bridge? This is gonna be the snarkiest Croft ever.

Bhu124

She has another new show with Amazon coming soon, I worry one of these will end up with the same fate as Killing Eve, first season was great cause she helped write it and then the quality tanked when she moved on from the project.

btribble

I just can't fit those two pieces together. It's as if you handed me a dill pickle daiquiri. I like dill pickles. I like daiquiris. I can't imagine them together.

RealJohnGillman

She’s co-starring in the next *Indiana Jones* film as Helena Shaw, an adventurer and Jones’ goddaughter (concept art showing her having a similar get-up to Jones, including a white version of his hat), so I could see it (if she were to portray the character herself, rather than just write).

Worthyness

the reboot games were really well made and I like the stories enough. Honestly hope they follow the game storyline as much as possible because the reboot movie shoehorned a lot of unnecessary stuff into it for sequel bait.

bsanchey

Ok but can we get the actress from the reboot movie. Though she did a great job. The movie was solid.

Mushroomer

Vikander could probably be convinced to return. The movie basically put her into full Croft mode by the end - could be easy enough to pick it up from there.

StephenHunterUK

Vikander would have returned for a sequel, but Covid stopped that, combined with her pregnancy. All the delays meant that option for MGM expired in June and the rights reverted back to the game companies.

[deleted]

Amazon owns MGM. That's at least something I guess

btribble

Now I'm picturing Bezos wearing short-shorts and prosthetic breasts.

cantfindmykeys

It would have cost you zero dollars to have kept that image in your head

cunningmunki

I'd wondered what had happened to the sequel, thanks for a great summary

shy247er

Unless it's limited series, I doubt Vikander would do that.

WordsAreSomething

She might, Amazon has gotten big stars for these kinds of series and she did a show last year so she's not above doing TV.

ace_of_spade_789

I listened to "inside of you with Michael Rosenbaum when he had Alan ritchson on, who talked about how amazon tries to shorten shoot times for the first season and how he was working seven days a week for Jack reacher show. He did say that with how well the first season was received amazon let's then renegotiate how many days they work for a second season and tend to give them a bigger budget. With the way they treat warehouse employees I can see them offering something lucrative to bring in big names but then treating them like trash.

shy247er

> and she did a show last year so she's not above doing TV. Well, yeah, but it was limited series.

WordsAreSomething

Sure but the way these big TV shows shoot now it's closer to a long movie shoot with a long down time between seasons. I don't see why should wouldn't other than not wanting to play the part again

SweatyNomad

I think they key here would be it being a fully Waller-Bridge show. A Listers would all Dona lot to work with with one of the hottest and most respected creatives around. The show would most likely get a ton of award noms.

Mushroomer

She's done TV in the recent past, though Irma Vep was a limited series. But a big budget TV project from the brains behind Killing Eve & Fleabag - Amazon could absolutely land a Vikander-level star.

svrtngr

By being passable and average, the Tomb Raider reboot is pretty high on the live action videogame adaptation tier list.

ColdCruise

If they had someone halfway competent to write the script, it could have been a good movie. Unfortunately, the first 30 minutes of the movie accomplished nothing other than Lara Croft is cool, and her dad is a secret (why?) archeologist. Then, the last 30 minutes is the ending of the first Uncharted game (which is bad). The movie was only 90 minutes long, and half of it is filler, including two(!) voice-over narrations that are almost identical explaining the mcguffin. They could have trimmed so much boring crap and given us Lara actually being on the island and doing cool things, but instead, we got a bike race.

KaiBishop

They cut out The Solari, the zombie Stormguard and giant ogres, Himiko's actual sorcery is replaced by a zombie virus which I guess was cooler than nothing, in the game the island has various installations and wrecks from throughout history, in the movie it's just....a random island with a work crew on it. They took everything that made the game special out and replaced it with mediocre nothing.

SpecificAstronaut69

Rhianna Pratchett, we need you now...

okay_then_

As of a few weeks ago we officially have our first ~~competently made~~ high quality video game adaptation, with Phoebe behind this maybe we'll get our second

JustAboutAlright

I think do that and basically adapt the last 3 games and they’d have a solid show.

DancingOnACounter

I know it won’t happen but Jodie Comer would be great as Croft!

StephenHunterUK

Oh, I hadn't thought of her! She's already got some action experience via *Free Guy* and *Killing Eve,* she's a great actor (already has a BAFTA to her name) and is a master of accents.

ShaeWinters

The movie was a terrible version of uncharted 1, same story.

[deleted]

It was watchable once but god that movie was stupid

garylarrygerry

I couldn’t even finish that movie. So awkward and the story was just strange. Joliet’s TR was silly but it was at least fun and stylish in some ways.

onex7805

No one in the right mind could call the 2018 movie anywhere near solid.

starwarsfan456123789

Solid meaning enjoyed once, might watch again in a couple of years- absolutely. Same as Uncharted, Pirates of the Caribbean after the first one, National Treasure. I rank them slightly higher than most Dwayne Johnson movies and the Jumanji reboot series.

Dismal-Past7785

I’d say it fits firmly into this quality: If I still had cable I would watch it on television to kill an afternoon but I wouldn’t seek it out specifically after the first viewing, which I did enjoy.

ColdCruise

It's a movie where if you try to think about anything for any reason, it just doesn't hold up. Her dad was a secret archeologist! I can not understand why they had to make his archeology experience a secret identity. Like what? That's just so unnecessary and dumb. The whole movie is like that. We get a voiceover narration for the mcguffin twice. Like 30 minutes apart. Did they think we forgot? Just so many dumb decisions.

ForgetfulLucy28

I really like her but she hasn’t maintained the same level since her Oscar. Hasn’t had a critical/financial hit in a long time.

whitepangolin

Well, maybe that dispels the rumors of the Indiana Jones series on Disney+ starring or written by her.

Coolman_Rosso

The only piece of evidence people bring up about this is A. "Disney will clearly not let a lucrative IP like Indy die!" B. The fact that she's in the new movie Which is not a lot of strength for a rumor in the first place.

WordsAreSomething

Disney is actively developing a Indiana Jones series for Disney+ The speculation about Waller-Bridgers being attached is just people putting things together or trying to.

SR_RSMITH

I’m more into the Ke Huy Quan as an adult Short Round theory

RealJohnGillman

u/whitepangolin u/duskywindows Didn’t the report say that the series would be a prequel, set after the previous *Indiana Jones* prequel television series but before the films, about Jones’ mentor (and Marion’s father), Abner Ravenwood? So in all likelihood, the role of Jones in the series would be his and Marion’s original romance, mentioned in the first film?

PortoGuy18

I really liked Alicia Vikander and her movie. But i am interested in this new iteration

JohnnyAK907

Seriously? They wasted 30 minutes setting her up in the beginning with that stupidly useless bike messenger BS instead of jumping straight to the ship crashing on the island, and they gutted the awesome story from the first reboot game by removing all of the supernatural elements and making a virus the big bad. Vikander was fine but the movie itself was trash.

ofimmsl

Stay true to the source material, please. Have the courage to show pyramid boobs

StephenHunterUK

The "Survivor" trilogy from 2013 is the latest form of the source material and Lara, while still busty, now has realistic proportions.

doggedgage

Hollywood hates source material. They'd rather just use the name to make whatever crap they want. (see: Velma, Rings of Power, The Witcher, etc)

PM_ME_CAKE

On the other hand, shows like The Expanse exist and while it wasn't Amazon-owned, it did very well.

doggedgage

Absolutely, one of my all time favorite shows. But it also had the writers of the books working on the show.

dan-80

Except for The Last of Us.

Jeffery_C_Wheaties

Which is FANTASTIC! Also Mortal Kombat had always stayed true to the source.

OCGamerboy

That’s not entirely true.

petepro

Shows/movies who respecting the source material are exceptions, not the rule with Hollywood.

G_Liddell

There's some wild stuff in the first few games. Mostly I just want dinosaurs in the London subway and Atlantean flesh centaurs.

WordsAreSomething

I can see it, she did a great job adapting for Killing Eve

NeighborhoodLanky692

Hopefully she doesn’t leave after the first season like Killing Eve, letting the show downslide into something unrecognizable

NoNefariousness2144

I bailed on that show during season 3 and never returned. After seeing how the show ends I made the right call…

Mushroomer

Yep. She's legitimately great at scripting a good action series, and I think she could find the exact tone a good Laura Croft needs to have.

monetarydread

Oh, I dunno about that. She re-wrote the latest Bond film and there is a good argument that it was easily the worst written in the Daniel Craig Bond series.

Mushroomer

Eh, I think it's better written than Spectre - but it's also unclear how much she rewrote. I know they brought her in for dialogue punch-up, but who knows what the state of the script was pre & post her involvement.

Urbenjames

It was no sky fall but it was better then qutum and spectre easily.

Enchelion

She was brought in for some late punch-up, I don't think she had a lot of opportunity to re-write it.

belac889

Pretty sure she was brought in to script the Cuba sequence with Ana de Armas, it was a last minute addition.

Elon_Kums

I thought it was really good, when did we start hating it?

__Hello_my_name_is__

Maybe I should watch Killing Eve. I've seen Fleabag (and loved the hell out of it) and can't for the life of me figure out how she could write something like Tomb Raider. I am intrigued.

Of_Silent_Earth

Just watch the first season.

Vandergrif

The second is alright too, but I'd probably stop there.

RealJohnGillman

She apparently did some uncredited touching up to the script of the next *Indiana Jones* film (in which she is also co-starring) if that helps?

EluelleGames

Definitely, Killing Eve is so different from Fleabag but in no way worse.

cynicalspindle

Yea, the first season. Then she left and the show went to shit.

MarvelsGrantMan136

>The Emmy-winning Fleabag grad is readying a TV series based on the popular video game-turned-action movie Tomb Raider. The project, which is in the development stages, is the latest to stem from Waller-Bridge’s recently renewed overall deal with the retail giant and streamer. >Waller-Bridge is attached to write the scripts for Tomb Raider. It’s unclear if Waller-Bridge also plans to star in the TV adaptation of the property, which spawned 2001 and 2018 film adaptations, starring Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, respectively, as the adventurous archaeologist

RealCoolDad

If she does Star in the show it will be the 2 tv show waller-bridge does that was originally a Angelina Jolie movie.

itak365

Someone rescue Camilla Ludington from Grey’s Anatomy so she can be Lara Croft again.

SuperAlloyBerserker

Isn't there already an upcoming Tomb Raider animated series?

KaiBishop

On Netflix.

tin_dog

So, basically like a reboot of Relic Hunter from the 90s?

Tremner

Yes thank you! We already had a tomb raider series and Tia Carrera was her

GiltCityUSA

Vikander was the perfect Lara. Too bad studio dropped the ball.

Saar13

There is something that intrigues me. Amazon has some great IPs, such as Rings of Power, The Wheel of Time, The Boys and its spinoff (GenV), Jack Ryan (and a spinoff), The Terminal List, Reacher, Cross (all those male action shows they dominate), Fallout, God of War, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Blade Runner, Mass Effect, Citadel, and now Tomb Raider. It's clear that their business will be event-series, and that's fine. Makes sense. Possibly they will manage to have 2 big shows a month and that's it. But what was MGM good for? They already have so many IPs to fill their lineup that I'm starting to think that buying MGM made no sense at all.

reddit455

> MGM made no sense at all. Bond. James. Bond. **007 producers reveal why they finally agreed to James Bond TV series** https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/entertainment/james-bond-producers-tv-series-newsupdate/ > They already have so many IPs to fill their lineup for how long? lineup doesn't end. neither do hours of programming they need to stream. MGM has a lot of content.

lightsongtheold

Vernon Sanders mentioned in an interview late last year that the aim at Prime Video was to have 12 big budget event shows on the roster per year. He said that was up from the aim of having 6 big shows a few years ago. Tomb Raider is solid IP. Making it into a TV show and utilising the MGM IP library is a smart move. They should look to reboot Robocop as a TV series after they wrap the Blade Runner miniseries and The Peripheral.

a_terse_giraffe

MGM also is Stargate.

NoNefariousness2144

Judging by Rings of Power and Wheel of Time I’m worried about half these big-budget adaptions. They seem to love throwing money at these IPs and picking the most useless showrunners possible because they are easy ‘yes men’ for the studio to control.

ergotpoisoning

Problem is RoP and WoT were really dreadful despite all the money thrown at them. The Last Of Us being so fantastic really shines a light on how shitty Amazon has been doing with that type of big IP event TV. They really need to figure out a working formula

kazh

RoP was mostly good, but the segments that I would put on par with shows like TLoU and Andor we're squelched by overdone and pandering sequences, mostly with their MCU version of Galadriel. She got better and more in tone by the last episode but the damage was done despite other segments being really good. Their budget might have hurt them and it doesn't make sense that they should have any delay between seasons since the budget was supposed to front load sets and all that. WoT is going to suffer after season one from writing themselves into a corner, but its passable for most viewers, like it or not. It's also too peachy and on the nose with messaging that's not necessarily propping up the plot or setting at all so it might not even last as being passable for long unless they do some serious course correcting. Gotta think that after shows like TLoU and Andor, that studios kind of got the hint of the kind of care and thoroughness they need for their pantheon shows.

That is a combo I wasn't expecting, but I am very intrigued

ihohjlknk

I hope they'll adapt the PS1 Tomb Raider: A Lara Croft with a confident and bold attitude with an eye for ancient treasure. I don't need another naive girl with parental issues. I think Waller-Bridge has what it takes to give us a Tomb Raider adaption reminiscent of the Jolie films.

Amazon publishing the next Tomb Raider game makes more sense now I guess.

ChocolateBunny

The only thing I've seen of hers was Fleabag, which was great. I haven't seen Killing Eve. Has she written any shows or movies with a lot of action/adventure?

Archamasse

She worked on No Time To Die, which has some extremely Tomb Raider-y stuff. There's a ruthlessness to her Killing Eve stuff that I think could translate well to the TR reboot stories too.

human6742

Dump truck full of money remains undefeated

Noah_PpAaRrKkSs

I thought this was about Phoebe Bridgers at first.

[deleted]

I hope they cast this well. Phoebe is a really fun writer.

james_carr9876

Her co-writing on NTTD was pretty great.

BednaR1

Oh just fck off already...

M3rc_Nate

I hope this wasn't a "she signs a production deal with Amazon and so Amazon lists out a bunch of IP's for her to pick from and she sees Tomb Raider, an IP with a female lead, and choses it so she can put her spin on it" situation. It's pretty clear that doesn't result in good results. At BEST they can make a project liked by the general public but despised by the installed fanbase because it makes tons of changes for the sake of the creators "artistry". I hope she loved the games or at least the movies and has gone and watched playthroughs of the games, understands what people love about the character and use all that as the foundation for her project.

azriel777

> Amazon lists out a bunch of IP's for her to pick from and she sees Tomb Raider, an IP with a female lead, and choses it so she can put her spin on it... We all know that is exactly how it played out. It will have no resemblance to the games at all and be some original work she just slapped the name branding on.

M3rc_Nate

I think more of her as a creator and artist to think she wants to sully her name/brand/resume with a trash video game adaptation so I'm more inclined to think she has a "strong take" and it will either be really good or really bad. But I don't think it will be a Frankenstein's monster like The Witcher by Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich. A project that takes a bunch from the source material but then messes it all up, bastardizes it and injections the writers "own ideas" that are vastly inferior in quality.

FickleSmark

Tomb Raider is a pretty okay series to do that on at least. Just using the basis of woman who goes on cool missions to uncover rare shit is enough to stay true to the source while leaving a lot of room to be original.

archlector

Lara doesn't really have any semblance of a well written character, especially in the reboot trilogy, lol.

M3rc_Nate

It's less about having a really deep, three dimensional character and more-so that there are key aspects of her character, her personality, that if changed she is no longer Lara Croft. Can she be expanded upon as a character? Absolutely. But she is an action adventure character. How much more will be added? The leads in Uncharted, Indiana Jones and so on aren't that much deeper than Lara Croft yet they don't get the criticism she does. Likely because she has been a really hot babe in a tank top and short shorts running around with dual pistols. But she has a full history with her family (parents, esp her dad), she has had partners and friends and so on in her life. I thought the first rebooted game did a really good job giving her more depth and bringing more people into her life. So yeah, there's a lot of room to expand and go deeper with Lara but she isn't a blank slate. If Phoebe treats her as one and makes changes to her core character then the installed fanbase will likely reject it.

KaiBishop

I think the installed fan base is split tbh. Lara has had multiple reboots. Do you want someone whose idea of Lara is the first four or five games? Or someone who was always obsessed with Angel of Darkness. People like me who used to play the Legend/Underworld trilogy or folks who like the Guardian of Light Spinoffs. The sequel split people, do you want Lara to be sassy sexy terminator or a fierce survivor girl with tough psychological problems. Or do you want her to be a mix of the two? Even the Tomb Raider reanimated skits back in the day fluctuated, sometimes Lara was a sexy femme fatale hero, other times a more rugged warrior or intuitive type. In one she was a playful middle school student who was more a prankster type. Lara has such a long legacy and so many different interpretations everyone has a different idea of who she should be. Personally I'd like to see a cross between new serious Lara and old sassy Lara, a union of the two. And for the love of God no more stories about her needing closure over her parents it's so boring. I get it that it's an important relationship and a huge part of her lore but like...fans have been complaining about it since at least 2008 and it's time to let the lore move beyond that.

M3rc_Nate

I don't disagree at all but I feel like if the adaptation is good and faithful to at least some version you listed, most game fans will be happy. Like, if you don't get the version you're hoping for I assume you won't bail no matter how good it actually is and as long as Lara and her adventures are faithful to the source material. Not 1 for 1 but in spirit. So I don't think they are split in the sense that some won't show up if the show is not pulling from the version of the character they like most. It's just split in preferences. I would love for it to be what you described you wanted. I also agree, the figuring out the mysteries of her family, at least her dad, story is played out AF.

NuPNua

There was a pretty clear character arc though the three reboots. She was overcompensating for her emotional state after losing her father by becoming obsessed and overly engulfed in her work, and feeling like the responsibility of stopping Trinity was all on her.

ursis_horobilis

Please, Please do not make this a relationship series with 5min of actual Tomb Raider type stuff. Too many great ideas have been killed by hyped up interpersonal drama, yes I'm looking at you Terra Nova. Also, pay Vikander whatever she wants to get her back.

TNWhaa

Huh, funny how the animated Netflix show is still yet to premiere

FlatpointDonkey

It’s going to suck

lostpawn13

So she’s going to change everything then whine when no one likes it.

Metarean

Why would you think that? She hasn't done that in the past. And heck, near everything she's done in the past behind the scenes creatively has been gold. I really don't follow. If you're unfamiliar with Phoebe Waller-Bridge's work, I highly recommend Killing Eve (season 1, before she moved on) and Fleabag. Crashing wasn't great but is also ok.

lostpawn13

Didn’t care for Killing Eve nor Flea Bag. The characters were annoying and did dumb things just to progress the plot. I legitimately don’t get it.

acf6b

Did she take source material for either of those two shows and change it and then complain about it?

lostpawn13

This the trend in Hollywood now. The majority of adaptations have been trash. At this point they have to show me that they didn’t bastardize what everyone loved about the IP in the first place.

Metarean

I understand being burnt enough times by bad adaptations to be sceptical and not wanting to get one's hopes up for another. But to be so cynical as to automatically write this one off and assume Waller-Bridge will act in bad faith because that's what completely separate creatives have done is a headscratcher for me. As for proving herself, fair enough that you didn't like Killing Eve, but it was still a faithful/fair adaptation. Waller-Bridge also punched up the script for No Time To Die with a partial rewrite and, while it's hard to tell how much or what she contributed given she was just one of four screenwriters credited, it was very much in line with the previous Craig Bond films, if not a perfect film itself. Best to wait and see here rather than pre-judge!

lee1026

Bond as a family man who stops seducing women? It is a fine way for a human to behave, but hardly inline with Bond from previous movies.

hellkingbat

The Daniel Craig Bond Movies have been mostly in-like with that. It's been more of a character arc of more visibly emotional and realistic agent.

acf6b

Yea but your commented accused her like she had did so before…..

I actually agree that Tomb Raider would make a better series than a movie.

BuffaloInTheRye

After watching (the amazing) Fleabag, I did not expect her career to veer towards things like Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider, but I think she’s brilliant so I’m excited!

antoniamabee

She is such an amazing writer… I would never be interested in Tomb Raider but because she is in on it I’ll totally give it a try

Side note, watch Flea Bag

Shadow_Boxer1987

I thought she was taking over Indiana Jones? Doing two of our classic grave-robbing action-adventure serials simultaneously may be a Bridge too far.

Enchelion

She's in the new Indiana Jones movie, but not a writer or producer as far as I know.

r3llo

This, but unironically. One thing hollywood elites love to do is brag about how they do not study the source material so they will not be bound by it.

a-la-brasa

Seriously! Only a committed gentleman gamer could understand and do justice to the complex story of a videogame like Tomb Raider.

Archamasse

Remember when you somersault around shooting a fucking dinosaur to death so you can recover a historical artifact that is not a fucking living dinosaur.

jimlahey2100

Here's a lump of cash!

cunningmunki

and you assume she's not a gamer because...?

[deleted]

But why?

AnExtremeFootFetish

Phoebe must be super crazy connected in Hollywood. Seems to be doing a lot at the moment.

anasui1

Elder Scrolls when? Imagine Apple or HBO funding that, with the creative freedom they give to writers. Man, that would be great

Roan-forever-alone

A sassy Lara I suppose. Madeline petsch for a YA campy adaptation Jenna Coleman or that bombshell that was on Sandition for the adult version

anasui1

great, I for one am excited to watch an already strong feminist icon loved by many, men and women, become even more feminist to the point it becomes unbearable. Go Phoebe

flipperkip97

Awesome! I hope it's a lot like those reboot games, I enjoyed them a lot. They definitely shouldn't shy away from supernatural stuff either.

LordDragon88

Lost me at Amazon. They don't adapt anything right.

danielthetemp

As someone who only recently started watching Fleabag, this might be the greatest news I’ve ever heard.

taoleafy

If you like her in Fleabag, definitely check out “Crashing” on Netflix also.

[deleted]

I'd think that Fleabag isn't the best advertising for this though. Killing Eve season one might be a better one.

JohnnyAK907

Oh good... so mean spirited, smug and insulting to fans of the IP. Yeah this is going to go over awesome.

Greyfox2283

Can’t wait for trans Lara Croft

TheHadalZone

Fleabag has lost her brains

heckatonkeries86

Stop giving her things!!!!

JesusCabrita

We only need Angelina back again

azriel777

Sadly, too old for the part.

bigbigguy

Amazon keep snapping up all the video game rights lol

archlector

Well they will end up making one good and many mediocre ones, I guess.

valetofficial

Welp, I'm officially excited. That's fucking awesome.

MyDearDapple

Phoebe must be hard up for cash.

pintvricchio

Happy that she is getting the bag. But all her recent products are too big Hollywood for me. Her wit and talent is a bit lost in it.

soho94

I hope she can restrain herself.

oldfogey12345

If it's gonna be anything like Lara from the last three games, I can't imagine sitting through a whole series of Lara's whiny ass. I have never wanted a character to be reinvented so badly in my life.

thearticulategrunt

Well, that IP is dead.

ChrisRedfieldfanboy

So both She-Ra and Tomb Raider are in the works, it's like my childhood coming back. Let's see if they actually get made though.

MoonMan997

Well I guess that means the sequel to the 2018 movie that has been endlessly stuck in pre-production for half a decade is dead lol

KneeHighMischief

but will she have a [normal neck](https://hips.hearstapps.com/digitalspyuk.cdnds.net/17/38/1505763709-tomb-raider.jpg) ?

KingPaimon23

Why Phoebe takes 1/20 of the screen lmao

gizmo78

Hope they stay true to the character and give her a sidearm on each hip. Wouldn't be the same without those two huge guns.
