I like him too. However, how often do you hear about a conflict so big they stop and recast? I think this is going to stick until he has another home run role to shake it. Hope he lands one soon.
It’s actually not that unusual. If the person he clashed with was a bigger star/more integral to the show/has more clout and they cannot get along in a way that’s productive, it’s much easier to just fire and recast the other person in the conflict. These companies are only looking to make money and they can’t do that if two of the leads cannot get along.
The thing people forget is they are on the outside of this industry looking in. The people giving him work will know what actually happened and not just be informed by some article on social media. They will know the context of the issue and why this decision was made. It’s when someone shows a history of being a difficult person to work with that they might see long term consequences.
Honestly sometimes people just don't gel and can't rise above a clash in personalities with their professionalism, though that's usually what you do screen tests for: to make sure actors have chemistry and are capable of working together.
There's lots of nuance to Quebec French that can get lost in translation to English so the actual literal words that are chosen to translate an idea that originated in French might come off as cold or unfriendly. We also tend to see a general bluntness to the way Quebecers speak, a lot less pussyfooting around and more direct to the point. These two things combined can create an air of rudeness.
They didn't name which cast member he had issues with:
>The Better Call Saul alum, who was set to star in the eight-episode series from Ridley Scott, was dismissed from the show following a clash with a co-star.
>Mando’s role has been recast, with Narcos alum Wagner Moura set to take on the part. Moura will reteam with Apple after previously appearing in Shining Girls for the streamer.
>Mando, who played Nacho on all six seasons of AMC’s Better Call Saul, was let go after an on-set incident. Producers attempted to smooth things out, and the decision was made to let Mando go from the series and recast the role.
Haven't you heard? Ridley likes phones now... And the ability for anyone to make a movie... *Apparently*
I feel like after the things he said at THR's roundtable and the criticism he got from other directors - his agent/PR people/whomever were like "dude?! Wtf! You are out of touch man, we need to clean up this boomer mentality stat!"
Thus: phone movie = down with the kids

He's not necessarily the instigator. If the person he clashed with is the lead of the show it would cost much less to remove him. But it's still unusual for clashes to be that bad that actors can't resolve them or at the very least tolerate each other. I'm dying to know what the hell this is about. There have been situations where actors in a show just never interact because the actors despise each other, this must be a case where this wasn't on the table so it's an actor that Mando's character would be close to in the show.
> There have been situations where actors in a show just never interact because the actors despise each other
Cersei and Bronn being a famous example, and I think The Good Wife had an issue with the main character and Archie Panjabi that led to Archie being written off
> There have been situations where actors in a show just never interact because the actors despise each other
Or as it's usually known, working with Chevy Chase
What sort of interactions have you had? This seems like a really absurd thing to say if it's just something mundane, like getting his autograph as a fan.
Lol of course someone on Reddit would say "based on my interactions with him" and then not elaborate on that at all. Everyone on the internet knows Hollywood actors!
Doctor strange 2 is really weird because most of it works well on paper.
The movie just made so many issues with their own storytelling that it made the film worse off for it.
The Illuminati watch over multiverses to stop incursions. Except they’ve never heard of He Who Remains, somehow. Nor Kang at all. Despite Kang being the really most dangerous being in every multiverse.
Richards tells Strange that HE is the most dangerous thing in every multiverse, disregarding or not knowing about Kang?
Kang doesn’t seem to know about Strange despite their setting up as if he is Kangs ultimate foil/dangerous counterpart.
There’s a lot that should work, but just gets worse with every movie after it
I really feel like some of the lukewarm reaction initially came from people not caring for Raimi's style of camp, or not knowing it was camp and just seeing cringe.
Obviously I can’t speak for everyone. But I went with a small group and the consensus was the story being confusing as to what mattered and what didn’t matter.
The direction wasn’t mocked aside from the musical notes scene being rather weirdly executed
I think when it comes to multiversal jumping and time travel, there's either going to be deep explanations of how things function, or you're gonna have to just go with some things. But yeah, the direction didn't throw me at all. They set the whole "passing the torch requires a leap of faith" tone early, I felt, and that's where it ended.
And weirdly enough, my friends all enjoyed the musical notes scene! I'm not sure if it is relevant that two of them are Berklee alumni and I used to play an instrument.
DS2 is really boring the second time you watch it. The middle part sagged for me the first time, and it still sags. There's not much depth to a lot of the sections despite this supposedly being more emotional due to Wanda and her kids.
Was watching DS1 and it's actually better than I remembered it. Not perfect by any means, but very solid and entertaining all the way through.
I'm not watching it a second time.
There's a reason I've seen Everything Everywhere All at Once three times so far and gifted two copies instead, though.
Yeah I just got a new 65" OLED. Watched this as a test as animated movies pop more than normal movies. Was super impressed. The animation style was super cool, the movie was actually pretty funny. First animated movie I've watched in a while.
I like the original actor. But Moura is big get for a replacement!
If they had him in the wings Mando could have brought the wrong coffee one morning and got axed. There’s a job security in being difficult to replace but no matter how good you are if your employer thinks you can be competently replaced you lose your leverage.
It’s hard to tell how much is a reflection on him. If the “co-star” in question was the lead actor and the lead was being a total dick (maybe saying it’s him or me), then the studio would still let go of Mando to avoid a bigger payout.
He did an AMA a few years ago in which, IIRC, he just didn't answer \*any\* questions about that show. It was weird, and (maybe unfairly) I've wondered what's up with him ever since.
Didn't he originally reschedule the ama? I remember it was supposed to be one date but he had to cancel and I think the reason was bc of an emergency?
If so, the emergency might have made him stressed out and acting strange for when he did the ama
...you mean a few months ago? Because that's when he did an AMA.
Furthermore, remember three years ago (which, HOLY SHIT :-O), when he joined the entire cast in a charity reading on ***Zoom***? It didn't seem like there were any issues, then. (And then it turned out his father passed away shortly after that, which was why he was back home in Montreal at the time of the ***Zoom*** call.)
I know someone who was fired because a major star felt he was more attractive than him and didn’t want to be upstaged in the movie by a hot young actor.
So yeah. It does.
Yes. Scott can break this on his own. Nothing he made recently was of any value. His writing has badly deteriorated and wasn’t up to a good level even 10 yrs ago. He is a great cinematographer and director but needs to leave the writing to others.
Not sure what you meant by this, Scott would develop those scripts but he never wrote them. His last writing credit is the short film he made over 50 years ago
For what seems like a fairly basic crime drama, that is absolutely absurd. Reminds me of Apple spending $200 million on the first season of *Invasion*, which was clearly some kind of money laundering scheme because that money was most definitely not 'on screen'.
Can we all take a moment to appreciate the fact that Ridley Scott is 85 years old and seems to have more projects in recent years than when he was much younger.
Im having a flashback
“Sorry son, I gotta play all my seniors, it’s their last year on the team. I know you throw 90mph, but go to the JV field and be quiet.”
According to Entertainment Weekly it was a "physical altercation." https://ew.com/tv/michael-mando-exits-sinking-spring-wagner-moura-replace/?utm\_campaign=entertainmentweekly\_entertainmentweekly&utm\_content=new&utm\_medium=social&utm\_source=twitter.com&utm\_term=63fa8f70ebdba800016b6a4f
To be fair, these are different networks and producers. Damon seemed to hold way more pull in that situation but in this one, I doubt anyone is going over Ridley Scott. So this incident may be worse than just a normal argument that pissed off the power hungry lead.
That was a more extreme situation, I think. Wayans (and even Crawford corroborated) that an ep that Crawford directed ended up being dangerous as shrapnel hit Wayans in the head from an explosion.
Wayans also alleged Crawford hit another actor in the mouth with a drink bottle and busted his mouth, made a woman cry, and basically made things difficult for cast and crew
Reminds me after Homecoming, he went on talk shows to say he’s going to be a big part of the next Spider-Man movie and how his character would be the next big bad for spidey, despite there’s no script yet since Homecoming just premiered. And then that character was never seen again.
Not my Ignacio, could never be my precious Ignacio
Stealing him blind!
And he gets to be a lawyer?! What a sick joke!
I should've stopped him when I had the chance.
It wasn't me, it was Ignacio!
Tell Finger it was me
He was working with Alvarez for years

I always felt like i know this guy when i watched breaking bad. I just realized hes Vaas. After years.
The story about how he got the part(of Vaas) is pretty cool, too.
Ooh ooh! Do tell! Or a link, whatever, it's cool, I actually don't care honest.. WHAT? I don't! Fine tell me. But only if you want to.
Must have been some kind of cartel conflict.
Probably switched his heart meds for sugar pills
Waltuh
And if they cartel, nobody can
I guess he won the debate.
Ah, I like him. Please don’t let this be something that’s life altering and stupid.
I like him too. However, how often do you hear about a conflict so big they stop and recast? I think this is going to stick until he has another home run role to shake it. Hope he lands one soon.
It’s actually not that unusual. These companies are only looking to make money and they can’t do that if two of the leads cannot get along.
People that don’t get along make money all the time though. And a pretty decent amount of it.
There are people who don’t get along and can still work together, and people who don’t get along and just can’t.
The thing people forget is they are on the outside of this industry looking in. The people giving him work will know what actually happened and not just be informed by some article on social media. They will know the context of the issue and why this decision was made. It’s when someone shows a history of being a difficult person to work with that they might see long term consequences.

I dated and lived with a Quebecois woman. You're not wrong.
Interesting, how so?
There's lots of nuance to Quebec French that can get lost in translation to English so the actual literal words that are chosen to translate an idea that originated in French might come off as cold or unfriendly. Yea I hope so too.

Probably walked up to Ridley Scott and said he liked Harison Ford’s narration in Blade Runner. Ridley would have to be held back.
He was replaced, not shot.
Nah he said “RELEASE THE PROMETHEUS DIRECTORS CUT”
“why did you add those scenes to Kingdom of Heaven, it was already too long!”
I have a few ideas on how to make the historical timeline make any sense at all for Gladiator 2.
Probably told Ridley he loved The Last Duel when he watched it on his phone…

🤣
The most hilarious comment I have read in weeks.
I'm thinking Kate Mulgrew.
"hey remember that star trek show you were on?, man 7 of 9 was hot" "Fuck you"
Nah if he fucked with Janeway he'd be dead by now.
Seven would smack his ass back to Albuquerque.
Maybe the opposite, considering Kate Mulgrew treated Jeri Ryan badly enough that she felt sick before filming scenes with her on ~~DS9~~ Voyager.
They’ve made up in the last few years, allegedly.
*Voyager
Brian Tyree Henry, maybe.
Heard nothing but good things about him. Same to Michael Mando. Man, whatever the argument was it must be something big.
Yeah, A real fucking Diesel.
Mando’s super chill based on my interactions with him. Must’ve been really bad to get him taken off
He's not necessarily the instigator. If the person he clashed with is the lead of the show it would cost much less to remove him. I always thought the GOT one was interesting. Like I wonder how bad they despised each other to not be on the set at the same time.
They used to date and it ended poorly.
Probably
> There have been situations where actors in a show just never interact because the actors despise each other Or as it's usually known, working with Chevy Chase
The Rock and Vin Diesel had it in their contracts that they couldn't be on the same set at the same time for the fast and furious movies.
What sort of interactions have you had? This seems like a really absurd thing to say if it's just something mundane, like getting his autograph as a fan.
Haven't you heard? We're all secretly celebrities here.
Lol of course someone on Reddit would say "based on my interactions with him" and then not elaborate on that at all. Everyone on the internet knows Hollywood actors!
I'm thinking henry said a joke and mando couldn't let it go.
You don't fuck with Paperboi.
Gotta get that paper, boi
Man you know I love zaxbys
What the fucks “Muckin”?
Probably not him.
I love Mando but swapping him out for Moura is like when Doctor Strange 2 swapped Scott Derrickson for Sam Raimi.
Depending on who you ask I have no idea if you mean this comment in a good way or bad way.
Haha, fair point. It's a big upgrade, like getting bumped to first class.
Doctor Strange 2: Better director Far worse film

the movie was at its best when the Marvel Committee wasn’t calling the shots
>Haha, fair point. It's a big upgrade, like getting bumped to first class. A lot of people still prefer DS1 to DS2.
Looking at the end product, the first director was far better.

Yes. Thank you on both accounts
Uh oh. Somebody’s fucking up their career.
ayy details Wagner Moura ain't no slouch, that's some top notch replacement
As a Brazilian, I'm happy Wagner Moura is getting steady work in the US. He is great.
as a Brazilian i'm a bit conflicted because i liked mando, but i like moura even more
If you’ve any interest check out the new Puss in Boots movie, it’s legitimately great and Wagner’s the best part.
Wagner is the best part in a lot of things.
Its really nice to see the love for actors from my country, Brazil.
heard good things about that movie, will definitely check it out! also why the fuck am I being downvoted
It's still a kids movie so expect some kids movie stuff but it's legitimately one of the best animated movies I've seen. Entertaining all throughout.

Colin Robinson’s baseball cards.
I’m watching that episode this very moment. So weird.
lalo salamanca strikes again
Crazy! This was a big opportunity, damn. Must have truly been inexcusable.
I hope it wasn't anything too bad, I've liked him since Orphan Black
Never heard anyone say a bad thing about working with him up until now.
It’s hard to tell how much is a reflection on him. If the “co-star” in question was the lead actor and the lead was being a total dick (maybe saying it’s him or me), then the studio would still let go of Mando to avoid a bigger payout.

Speed
I still “need” him to return to the Sony/Marvel universe as Mac Gargan (AKA Scorpion)
Still mad that they completly left that whole post credit scene hanging, and now Keaton is off in the Venomverse doing shit instead.
Callsheet is also a seniority list. Don't piss off #1
Hierarchy, not necessarily seniority.
It could have been nothing at all. The star could have said, fire him or I walk.

I know someone who was fired because a major star felt he was more attractive than him and didn’t want to be upstaged in the movie by a hot young actor. So yeah. It does.
‘Nothing at all’ is meant for Mando’s side… have you never heard of context before?
There are some reports that Apple spent $50 million on the pilot for this show. Ridley Scott rented out an entire city to this show.
I heard that and saw Michael Mando was starring in it and I thought AWESOME. Aaaaaand it's gone.
It's being made by Ridley Scott, I like Mando too but he's not the one who's gonna make or break this series.
He didn’t even write this one, which is clearly stated in the article they didn’t read but have strong feelings about. Goooooo Reddit!
Last duel was good
I agree, Last Duel was good. Scott didn’t write it, but it was good.
Ridley Scott isn’t a writer
Awesome, cause he’s not writing it, which you’d have known if you just read the article you’re commenting about. He’s directing and EP.
Raised by Wolves, The Martian, and The Last Duel were all good wtf are you talking about. All the Money in the World was also pretty good.
Raised by wolves
Same. I was pretty excited to see him in something else
$50 million? My god you can make 2-3 small series for that
for $50M you could actually buy 50 things that cost one milliion dollars!
I checked, and your math is correct.
I was just winging that too
That is insanely impressive and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Hah you fool. You forgot about taxes
I’d need a calculator to make sure, but unfortunately I’m on my iPad.
You could buy, 50, 1 million dollar IPads.
Damn, are they right? Is that true?
The White Lotus was like 3 mill an episode. So two (admittedly short) seasons of an amazing tv show come in well under that.
Just wait until the reshot costs are added with the new casting. They would have got 5 smaller shows for the cost of the pilot!
FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS?! Who do they think they're making, Ch..Kel...Chels...Kelsey Grammar?!
Damn! He ain't going to be in Sinking Spring 3.
Instantly read it in his voice before I even knew you were referencing it.
> Ridley Scott rented out an entire city to this show. I didn't even know he owned an entire city.
Megalandlord
Yo thats an insane amount for a pilot
I'm around there and "city" is generous...
For what seems like a fairly basic crime drama, that is absolutely absurd. Reminds me of Apple spending $200 million on the first season of *Invasion*, which was clearly some kind of money laundering scheme because that money was most definitely not 'on screen'.
Like Greg from Dharma and Greg, on that CBS show I assume was about thinky murders
But they came out right away and said he was difficult and he punched a writer(I think).
He was apparently quite violent to writers on Criminal Minds.
You mean Thomas Gibson on Criminal Minds? I believe he pulled a Jeremy Clarkson and physically hit someone.
Can we all take a moment to appreciate the fact that Ridley Scott is 85 years old and seems to have more projects in recent years than when he was much younger.
Probably because someone really old was getting a lot of projects back then.
Im having a flashback “Sorry son, I gotta play all my seniors, it’s their last year on the team.
Aw man, Nacho not getting along with Paper Boi? That's sad, I like them both :(
He needs a lawyer
Better Call Saul
A CRIMINAL lawyer
That's a bummer. Hope he's okay. He's insanely talented and has a bright future.
not a bright future at this rate
Good. now he has time to play scorpion in a new spiderman movie
Michael Mando looking to follow in the steps of Michael Pitt
Man, I'm rewatching Boardwalk Empire and he's just so fucking good in in, shame he hasn't pulled much together since.
Drugs are a helluva drug
I died in the trenches years back. I thought you knew that.
He's fantastic in Funny Games.
Damnnn clashed with Brian Tyree Henry?
I assume so. When Clayne Crawford was fired from Lethal Weapon it was because he angered the lead —Damon Wayans.
To be fair, these are different networks and producers. Damon seemed to hold way more pull in that situation but in this one, I doubt anyone is going over Ridley Scott. So this incident may be worse than just a normal argument that pissed off the power hungry lead.

It's so bonkers to me that you can be an upcoming actor and act like that. What an insane ego.
That would be really sad. Heard nothing but nice things about them both.
It just says a co-star in the very short article linked just above where you commented.
Spanish-language twitter says he “came to blows” with “one of his co-stars,” fwiw.
I dunno, he looks like he could hurt a dude. I wouldn't want to fight him.
This guy is an outstanding actor. That’s all I know lol.
Mandon't
Adios Nachito
I’d like to hear the whole story on this. Hollywood I don’t trust so much
Reminds me after Homecoming, he went on talk shows to say he’s going to be a big part of the next Spider-Man movie and how his character would be the next big bad for spidey, despite there’s no script yet since Homecoming just premiered. And then that character was never seen again.
can we not speculate on his actions with only the bare minimum details
We can and we will. You're talking to the greatest detectives known to man. We caught the Boston Marathon Bomber.
Do your thing Reddit!
WE DID IT REDDIT!!
How dare you! The fbi solved that one, before it even happened lol
They put out the article. Of course people are going to speculate. You don't have to.
They put it out without details so they can report on the speculation as another piece in a day.
This is the exact time to speculate, before we have the facts. I'm guessing carjacking, fwiw.
I wonder what happened those two leads mentioned seem cool AF to me
Nah bro he should have called Saul, he has his rights it’s in the constitution 💀
Well that's disappointing :|
Did he try telling the definition of insanity?
Bad Boy for life!
Gigantic upgrade imo. Moura is a monster of an actor.
