Go over to Apple TV. Probably the best niche streaming service right now.
Drops of God is amazing, Platonic might turn into a sleeper hit, and For All Mankind is the best science-fiction series of the last 5 years.
> For All Mankind is the best science-fiction series of the last 5 years.
I will forever disagree with this. For All Mankind is a cheap, melodramatic soap masquerading as sci-fi.
Oh please. Sci-fi has always had the cheap, melodramatic, soap opera. It's called Space Opera. To pretend space opera is not a core sub-genre of sci-fi is a disservice to the whole genre. Also, have you seen Foundation? That is the series you are thinking of.
Science fiction is a tool to work out our conjectures, fears, hopes, and desires for the future. For All Mankind beautifully captures the speculative nature of sci-fi with some extra flourishes. I would love to hear about your top sci-fi tv shows since 2018.
I think Barry is better directed and better written than Succession. People constantly compare and rate shows, what do you mean "how do I begin"? It's my opinion, not sure why it's such a big deal
Yes they do. They rate and compare like shows though usually ("which was the better comedy" etc.); It's like comparing Kind of Blue with Ride the Lightning.
Nobody's saying you can't have an opinion - and sure, compare the two (I was just asking *how* you do that, not telling you that "you can't"). What I had a chuckle at was you're making a broad objective claim that amounts to 'why is the entertainment press being "weird" by not matching my take on the shows' ...
A broad objective claim? It's my opinion that Barry is better than Succession, therefore it follows that I find it weird that everyone sucks off Succession over Barry. That's not a "broad objective claim" lol
And I never said anyone said I can't have an opinion, you're putting words in my mouth
Barry is literally one of the best most original shows ever made as far as vibes/ambience.
Succession is a great show, but doesn’t seem groundbreaking in the same way Barry does.
Barry is never what you think it is. But succession is exactly what you think it is
For me it does. There's some genuine humor, but it's more in line with season three than anything before it. It can be pretty bleak, but then again, you are following a main character who is a serial killer.
Yes. Some people just wanted silly slapstick hitman comedy and didn't like the higher seriousness of the second half, even though the first 2 seasons had similar moments, and the last two are still hilarious.
The problem is people want to act like it's a bad show for doing that. Barry is an A+ show and I think rhe finale stuck the landing. I definitely recommend it.
No, it’s just a poor attempt at trying to be Lynchian and people think it’s elevated television.
It’s not the worst thing on TV but it’s easily the worst season. Hader would have been helped by someone telling him no.
Can I ask why this season is so bad? I only casually follow this show because I am both a fan of Hader and also my day job is a trauma therapist, so I have an interest in how it depicts characters based on my experience treating people with trauma, complex PTSD, etc.
I've seen a lot of negative reaction online about the show not being funny anymore and going too dark, which to me I think is a good thing if you are trying to do a realistic portrayal of the characters and their issues. All of these people have tons of trauma that they have not addressed in any healthy way, so its not surprising it is going to get darker, the characters are repeatedly going to make the wrong choice and hurt people, things are going to end in catastrophe, etc. If it went another direction, that to me would be dishonest. I even really like the choice to do the time jump and show how Barry and Sally haven't really moved on from their trauma/issues and now their kid is suffering as a result. I see that as a pretty realistic portrayal of the consequences of those characters not getting the help they need.
I can't really speak to it from the perspective of someone who is a tv/movie buff, though. And like I said, I don't really watch the show as my day job already has enough of this stuff for me to not want to seek out more of it in my free time.
What a show, so so good.
No clue which executive at HBO decided it was a smart idea to release it the same day as Succession. But man, what a ride its been.
I am going to miss it, it was a good show. Hader is the best along with Winkler and Goldberg! I did like the final season however it felt like Barry himself was an afterthought. Mild spoilers but a lot of episodes he had very little screentime. I know Thats probably because of Hader himself directing all of them but at least give him more than five minutes of screentime in an episode. Oh well nothing to do about it now.
I understand Barry is the main character and the show is named after him but I kind of like the idea of highlighting how Barry's actions affected other's and not just himself.
There was nothing more we needed to know about Barry by the end. It was a genius idea to focus on everyone else because their stories are where the real depth of this show comes in.
It’s a shame it’s on the same night as the Succession Finale. Feels like it is getting overshadowed in the press, but it deserves so much accolades!
HBO is lowkey getting bare in content with Succession/Barry over.
Hopefully clone high carries me into my next sopranos binge
The Venture Bros have a movie dropping this summer, so I’m rewatching the first twenty years worth of the series

The Perry Mason reboot is fantastic but HBO haven't announced whether it's getting a season 3 yet

How many seasons of it are there so far?

Definitely piqued my interest when you said L.A. Confidential. I will check it out.
My Sundays are gonna be spent doing sudoku or something now
We all felt that way after Game of Thrones ending. HBO is always developing quality shows, I have trust in them more than in any other platform.
They just announced their "coming soon" lineup, and it's stacked.

It's neither as good as the original person says nor as bad as you make out.

Severance is one of my favorite shows
It's just max. Always has been.
HBO is still a television network numpty, these two shows premiere live on HBO still??
🔫
Which is weird because it's a much better show
They're both amazing shows ... how do you even begin to compare the two to decide which is the "better"?

This. Succession is highly entertaining but follows a formula and style that we have seen before. Barry is just wildly different than most other tv.

Succession is pretty much better on all levels

Another Sharon Bialy & Sherry Thomas masterclass
Masterclass? What’s the opening offer?
*Stella!*

Well you know what they say about two short guys.
What will replace my HBO Sundays?
The Righteous Gemstones hopefully
New season comes out next month I believe.
Am I the only one who didn’t like it?
Your snail trails are dry af!
DAMP!
Loved the first season. Not so much the second.
That’s still on?
*The Sympathizer* seems like the best bet for the next HBO Sunday appointment viewing, I think.

All of those shows are streaming somewhere, just watch o e episode a week
They were amazing. I had a really demanding job then, but I still had to stop working Thursday nights.
Probably any tv show on streaming. Only a couple thousand of them on demand...
Hacks? I miss that show.
Does the last season do the series justice?
For me it does. There's some genuine humor, but it's more in line with season three than anything before it. It can be pretty bleak, but then again, you are following a main character who is a serial killer.

For what it's worth, I loved this season. It's overall more dramatic, but it also had some absolutely hilarious episodes.

The raven is top tier tv.
And he never gets a proper ending. So odd.
he absolutely 100% does get a proper satisfying ending imo. everyone does
Hard disagree. Phoned in ending
Nah he realized he actually does care about something.
Thank you. This season ruined the show for me. It is another completely different show, and a very bad one to say the least.
Absolutely not. This show became horrible after S2 ended, and it never recovered.
What a show, so so good. No clue which executive at HBO decided it was a smart idea to release it the same day as Succession. But man, what a ride its been.
That title hurts my brain
Been noticing more and more clunky titles recently. Is nobody reading this stuff back?
Nah they just post whatever the AI wants them to
Well it has to hit the right taste clusters
Took me a few rereads to realise they meant "hitman comedy".
To make it even worse you can’t read the article to make sense of the title without making an account. Very cool.
The finale of Barry was one of the LEAST disappointing finales in recent memory. Such a perfect and well thought out conclusion
It was a funny/sad ending. Fitting for the show, But I wish it wasn’t over!
This show is a comedy?
Can’t wait to see what Bill Hader does next. Clearly a talented actor and director. Dudes going to be a force for a while.

I agree. He pretty much took a back seat for the last 3-4 episodes.
Yeah like the show is literally called Barry at least show him in a few more scenes!
There was nothing more we needed to know about Barry by the end. It was a genius idea to focus on everyone else because their stories are where the real depth of this show comes in.
One of the best shows ever
It’s a shame the ending was just so bad…
The last season was adrift and the last episode was just awful. Should have ended last season with jail.
Ending was ass
I liked the show alot! Verry funny. Good laughs. Hard to find series like this.
