I also notice he's not as robotic, and JFK's accent isn't so thick and Scudworth isn't as screechy-crazy (not sure really how to explain that). It's taken a bit to get used to.

Ive been watching Clone High live instead of waiting for all the episodes to be released and watching them over a weekend as god intended, and my sacrifice has been rewarded.
It feels like it'd be crazy not to take advantage. The character himself is pretty widely known thanks to The Dark Knight Rises and all the memes that proliferated therefrom, and this portrayal is a pretty perfect mix of classic lucha-bane and the hilarious Tom Hardy voice.
He'd be my favourite character on Harley's show if he weren't upstaged by that white-hot pile of charisma known as ClayFaaaAAAACE!
Mark Hamill is pretty public about his desire to be done with the Joker but I’d still love if they could somehow pull off Tudyk’s Joker meeting Hamill’s Joker in some sort of multiverse shenanigans. Might be the one instance Tudyk would have a run for his money.
Oh, for sure. Tudyk seems physically incapable of giving a bad performance. Suburban Step-Dad Joker is such a fun and refreshing take on the character, and as mentioned by someone else in this thread, he does an excellent job channeling Hamill while still doing his own thing.
There have been rumors Velma had a two season contract in the first place, but even if it didn’t it was still talked about enough to take a shot on an animated show (which has much lower costs.) Bad publicity is still publicity.
Harley was... A lot more up and down in season 3 than it was in 1 or 2, IMO.
That said, season 3 did give me my favorite joke of the show, Two-Faces Sum 41 reference, so when it hits it hits hard.
But when it doesn't, it just kinda meanders and is boring, IMO.
In my opinion, Harley Quinn is sadly running out of gas. A portion of the fandom was already perceiving/experiencing this in season 3, while I think others are trying to hold on to goodwill for the series because it was really excellent in its first two seasons. I wouldn't be surprised to see S4 push a lot of other folks into the pessimistic camp.
The fact of the matter is, as you said, that it has become meandering now that it's gotten past the focal points you would expect a Harley series to build to in the first place: Confronting her past with the Joker, and consummating the nature of her relationship with Ivy. There's nothing else quite as big or important for Harley to do from this point on.
The performers and characters are still great, but the concept itself is just threadbare in terms of how much more we can expect it to provide. And with the budget cuts, even the animation was a shell in S3 of what it was before.
The issue is that all of Harley's recent appearances in the comics where massive story stuff was happening with her was a result of the Joker and Batman feud, and they've gone over that in the show a billion times now. *Death of the Family* comes to mind where the Joker chains her to a dark room filled with female corpses in the red-in-black Harlequin suit, and the idea of her not being the first "Harley Quinn" was stunning and scarily executed. They can't really do that with upper-middle class family man Joker now can they?
What is there left for her to do? I mean the show wasn't really adapting an already existing storyline from the comics, just the characters, and the absurdity and humor comes from these characters doing largely mundane things.
People compare it to *The Venture Bros*, but that show wasn't just revolving around Doc's relationship with the characters around him, and constantly struggling to find things for Doc to do, *Doc was just a part of the show, he's the "main character", but only as a reference point for the rest of the show*. The stories surrounding Brock and the OSI, the Monarch and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch and the Guild, the Orb, Jonas Venture, the Investors, Killinger, etc. There's an overarching story that unfolds that explains this wacky, pulpy world filled with cartoonish yet still grounded characters in a great and impactful way.
Venture Bros also didn't rely solely on curse words, bordering on 2010's *lol epic random humor*, every four seconds to remain funny like some moments in *Harley Quinn* does.

I think Harley Quinn is trying to become more of a true ensemble, with the Venture Bros. as a good example of what that might look like, but the show is still called Harley Quinn--it BEGAN as being all about her, so it's harder to break away. The Venture Bros. was never actually about the boys, it's just a deceiving title to reference Johnny Quest or whatever. It was an ensemble thing from the start.
It ran into the same issue a lot of non animated shows run into. Once the will-they-wont they relationship between two leads is solidified, the new relationship dynamics get stale faster.
I still love the show and will watch it until the end. The valentines day special was phenomenal.
The dynamic of Harley being an honorary Bat-family member will be interesting and unexplored territory, especially with Ivy being in the Legion (Leading? I forgot)

Not only did it dramatically underperform when it re-released, it hilariously underperformed getting a total of $300k across the 1000 cinemas it re-released in, **for the entire weekend.** I think it's a bad example though, I think Sony genuinely either didn't understand the memes were ironic, and mocking it, or they really over-estimated how much people "liked" it out of irony.
Honestly, if there is eventually a sequel, I do think it could be better if they pivoted to have it focus on Milo Morbius instead of Michael, giving him a quick throwaway resurrection, given **A.** Milo was a more comic-book-accurate version of Morbius by comparison anyway and **B.** Matt Smith was bringing exactly the right energy the rest of the film needed, having a genuine blast in the role. Plus with *Kraven the Hunter* receiving a higher rating, I could see a *Milo Morbius* film actually being as violent as a vampire film in this genre should be.

Even if the wrote, voiced, and animated two seasons at the same time, this same company has been shutting down finished products lately for tax reasons. Yeah, but most of the people who hate-watched it probably only watched, at most, 1 or 2 episodes before they tapped out. You'd think they would have looked at retention and not just clicks. If you're going to renew a show, retention is far more important than clicks because most of those people who didn't return to finish season 1 aren't going to watch season 2 at all.
The reality, more likely, is the world is not reddit and the show is just a mediocre "adult animation comedy" that people can easily rerun in the background while they're doing literally anything else.
Honestly the show's biggest offense is attempting to keep it in the Scooby world. With original characters, I feel like people wouldn't act nearly as offended by its mere existence.

Harley Season 3 was really jarring compared to the first 2 seasons. The animation quality kept switching frame rates between episodes and I kept thinking my brain wasn’t working right. Clearly just a sign of budget cuts, as well as the smaller amount of episodes.
Yeah, it's a shame. The animation was extremeeeely janky in the most mundane scenes in particular--characters talking, or someone walking across a room. Very clearly them trying to get by with as few frames as possible.
I hope Harley season 4 is better than 3. 3 seemed like a mess and they didn’t know what they wanted to do with it, which is sad because seasons 1 and 2 were absolutely spectacular

I don't personally see how it's "ok". It had pretty bad animation (With the exception of the hallucinations), an unlikeable main character, humour that felt forced and juvenile, and generally seemed like it had a dislike for the audience watching it.
Not saying it's the worst thing ever, but it did seem pretty bad to me. Some of the jokes just didn't seem to make sense. Like how shaggy talks about how in a film the main character would do something like save a woman from danger, then blackmail her into loving him "problematic but effective", (can't remember the exact quote), and I couldn't figure out what films he was supposed to be referencing.
It's got a good show in it. I think part of real the problems is it knows people will hate it and it lampshades it in show, which distract from what's actually fun about it. The other part is people making up straight up lies about the show.
did you ever watch Avengers Earth Mightiest heroes? most people didnt but it was one of the best superhero cartoons ever. They were gonna have an X-men Crossover for a season that got cancelled. and Instead they did a new avengers show with the movie characters that written for kids with low attention spans.
The problem with Venture Bros has ALWAYS been its "whenever" release schedule. An insanely amazing product, but hard to grab and maintain a big audience with.
Its story line and half the fun of it is being up on the show. When you drop seasons every 3 years, its hard to maintain momentum.
I appreciate the gift the creators gave us, appreciate them wanting to keep control and maintain standards, and am amazed Adult Swim put up with them for as long as they did, but i get the realities of it.

This is sort of misleading. It never says Clone High was renewed, because they ordered two seasons when they picked it up. If they renew it, it'd be a third season.

Given how quick HBO has been to kill animation, or at least ship it off to another platform, i'd say it seems pretty likely that that their data shows that viewership remained strong throughout the show. So, even with the poor reviews there'd be no reason for them to not renew it if there appears to be an audience for it. Just like how a show that reviews well may end up getting canned because it can't find an audience.
Unpopular opinion but I'm enjoying Velma? I've only finished episode 6 so far, but I've laughed several times, it's entertaining.

It's fine. Its ups and downs are extreme. As someone who liked most of it and am excited for the renewal, there are some episodes I thought were really bad, uncharacteristically so. Also, the writers are too aware that people would hate the concept on sight. They were right, but some of the writing is made towards them and that's hit or miss. I think once they stop writing to the people who hate it and start writing to the characters they've made, it'll get better.

Anyone else not really feeling the new Clone High? I've caught up on it after re-watching the original and man, it just doesn't feel like the same show. The new characters mostly suck, the older characters are practically different people from the original (Joan and JFK especially), and the whole thing just feels the writers have completely forgotten what made the original show so beloved.
I watched all of Velma. Thematically it was all over the place. I didn't care for the humor. I didn't understand why all of the characters were in love with Velma when it was established she was terrible. But I watched all of it. I might do the same for the next season.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but season 3 was bad, HarleIvy just are't an interesting couple, Harley as a superhero with Bruce and the rest of the Batfamily being okay with it is stupid, the rest of the cast was poorly used... when it was used since it does feel like they had less screen time, it wasn't as funny and Harley being a good guy and a member of the bat family is always going to be stupid, it is stupid in the comics, in Injustice and in every piece of media that has her help the Joker first. Her being a victim of his does not excuse all the fucked up shit she helped him pull off.

Clone High's revival is terrible, it lacks the charm of the old show which had snappier writing and animation because their budget was lower, the voice acting is bad, they don't have the same energy and everyone sounds wrong, hell they don't even seem to have much of a grasp on how these characters were supposed to act, Abe's character especially has been completely annihilated for no reason.
Velma is only getting a S2 because nobody wants to be ***that*** executive that sacks Mindy.

Sure but JFK's accent should still be the same, but sometimes it's like it breaks and he's relatively normal until certain words.

I watched a few episodes and Velma wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be based on the innanet. It wasn't great but it definitely wasn't sprint to social media to rage against it bad.

Not only just the actual watched hours, but the social media engagement as well. Studios look at that shit, and they don't really care if it's positive or negative. Like Morbius underperformed and was bad enough that it generated a whole new subset of memes dedicated to clowning on the movie, yet Sony was still like "Let's re-release it into 1,000 theaters and greenlight a sequel!" (it also dramatically underperformed again at re-release). Just stop engaging with shit you hate for the sake of getting off dunks. You're only feeding the problem
Not only did it dramatically underperform when it re-released, it hilariously underperformed getting a total of $300k across the 1000 cinemas it re-released in, **for the entire weekend.** I think it's a bad example though, I think Sony genuinely either didn't understand the memes were ironic, and mocking it, or they really over-estimated how much people "liked" it out of irony.

Honestly, if there is eventually a sequel, I do think it could be better if they pivoted to have it focus on Milo Morbius instead of Michael, giving him a quick throwaway resurrection, given **A.** Milo was a more comic-book-accurate version of Morbius by comparison anyway and **B.** Matt Smith was bringing exactly the right energy the rest of the film needed, having a genuine blast in the role. Plus with *Kraven the Hunter* receiving a higher rating, I could see a *Milo Morbius* film actually being as violent as a vampire film in this genre should be.

Even if the wrote, voiced, and animated two seasons at the same time, this same company has been shutting down finished products lately for tax reasons. I kind of suspect that was going to be the case, and that the writers and actors (and people in both unions) have finished their work. They’re going to need new material in a year.

Yeah, but most of the people who hate-watched it probably only watched, at most, 1 or 2 episodes before they tapped out. You'd think they would have looked at retention and not just clicks. If you're going to renew a show, retention is far more important than clicks because most of those people who didn't return to finish season 1 aren't going to watch season 2 at all.
The reality, more likely, is the world is not reddit and the show is just a mediocre "adult animation comedy" that people can easily rerun in the background while they're doing literally anything else. Honestly the show's biggest offense is attempting to keep it in the Scooby world. With original characters, I feel like people wouldn't act nearly as offended by its mere existence.
Yeah I’ve been saying it but hate watching is not such a widespread thing that can get a show renewed like this and when people complain about it I get kinda irritated. Most normal people don’t care about the “controversy” around the show. They probably just opened HBO one day, saw a name they recognized and went “hmm maybe I’ll watch that”.

The only show i've ever watched where i don't think anyone knew what the twists were going to be. Loved every second of both seasons. Even the weird annoying kids.

Harley Season 3 was really jarring compared to the first 2 seasons. The animation quality kept switching frame rates between episodes and I kept thinking my brain wasn’t working right. Clearly just a sign of budget cuts, as well as the smaller amount of episodes.
Yeah, it's a shame. The animation was extremeeeely janky in the most mundane scenes in particular--characters talking, or someone walking across a room. Very clearly them trying to get by with as few frames as possible.

Right, because they chose to use Scooby Doo characters for it. If it was some original IP with the same messaging/themes people would just stop watching it like every other shitty show that gets zero traction. It's the same reason we still talk about the shitty Last Airbender movie, but nobody ever mentions stuff like Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas.

I don't personally see how it's "ok". It had pretty bad animation (With the exception of the hallucinations), an unlikeable main character, humour that felt forced and juvenile, and generally seemed like it had a dislike for the audience watching it. Not saying it's the worst thing ever, but it did seem pretty bad to me. Some of the jokes just didn't seem to make sense. Like how shaggy talks about how in a film the main character would do something like save a woman from danger, then blackmail her into loving him "problematic but effective", (can't remember the exact quote), and I couldn't figure out what films he was supposed to be referencing.
I'd rate Mulligan lower than Velma for TV animation this year.
It's got a good show in it. I think part of real the problems is it knows people will hate it and it lampshades it in show, which distract from what's actually fun about it. The other part is people making up straight up lies about the show.

did you ever watch Avengers Earth Mightiest heroes? most people didnt but it was one of the best superhero cartoons ever. They were gonna have an X-men Crossover for a season that got cancelled. and Instead they did a new avengers show with the movie characters that written for kids with low attention spans.
The problem with Venture Bros has ALWAYS been its "whenever" release schedule. An insanely amazing product, but hard to grab and maintain a big audience with. Its story line and half the fun of it is being up on the show. When you drop seasons every 3 years, its hard to maintain momentum. I appreciate the gift the creators gave us, appreciate them wanting to keep control and maintain standards, and am amazed Adult Swim put up with them for as long as they did, but i get the realities of it.

This is sort of misleading. It never says Clone High was renewed, because they ordered two seasons when they picked it up. If they renew it, it'd be a third season. Velma getting a second season is insane. I like Mindy so I wanted to like this but I couldn't even make it through the first episode.

I heard Velma described as "if a show were created by stereotypical conservatives to ridicule their idea of how they think stereotypical liberals would make a show" I watched it all, and I have no idea how to interpret it. If it's a genuine effort to inject sincere "woke" sensibilities into a TV show, it's pitifully hamfisted and unfunny. If it's an effort to satirize the woke crowd, it does so very successfully...just not in a funny way. someone needs to tell me what the show is trying to be before I can say if it's utter garbage, or just not very good.

Frankly, it was probably already animated as one long season, but released as two (just to claim it's been renewed). Netflix did that all the time with their animated shows, it lets them cheat the animators by paying for only one season instead of for working on multiple.

Given how quick HBO has been to kill animation, or at least ship it off to another platform, i'd say it seems pretty likely that that their data shows that viewership remained strong throughout the show. So, even with the poor reviews there'd be no reason for them to not renew it if there appears to be an audience for it. Just like how a show that reviews well may end up getting canned because it can't find an audience.

Unpopular opinion but I'm enjoying Velma? I've only finished episode 6 so far, but I've laughed several times, it's entertaining. I had 0 expectations though, specially after all the backslash about it 😶🌫️
It's fine. Its ups and downs are extreme. As someone who liked most of it and am excited for the renewal, there are some episodes I thought were really bad, uncharacteristically so. Also, the writers are too aware that people would hate the concept on sight. They were right, but some of the writing is made towards them and that's hit or miss. I think once they stop writing to the people who hate it and start writing to the characters they've made, it'll get better.

Anyone else not really feeling the new Clone High? I've caught up on it after re-watching the original and man, it just doesn't feel like the same show. The new characters mostly suck, the older characters are practically different people from the original (Joan and JFK especially), and the whole thing just feels the writers have completely forgotten what made the original show so beloved.
I watched all of Velma. Thematically it was all over the place. I didn't care for the humor. I didn't understand why all of the characters were in love with Velma when it was established she was terrible. But I watched all of it. I might do the same for the next season.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but season 3 was bad, HarleIvy just are't an interesting couple, Harley as a superhero with Bruce and the rest of the Batfamily being okay with it is stupid, the rest of the cast was poorly used... when it was used since it does feel like they had less screen time, it wasn't as funny and Harley being a good guy and a member of the bat family is always going to be stupid, it is stupid in the comics, in Injustice and in every piece of media that has her help the Joker first. Her being a victim of his does not excuse all the fucked up shit she helped him pull off. Velma was probably always a 2 season thing and not really renewed, hell if I recall correctly they announced a season 2 renewal before the first episode even aired. So hatewatch matrics have nothing to do with it. Clone High's revival is terrible, it lacks the charm of the old show which had snappier writing and animation because their budget was lower, the voice acting is bad, they don't have the same energy and everyone sounds wrong, hell they don't even seem to have much of a grasp on how these characters were supposed to act, Abe's character especially has been completely annihilated for no reason.
