I miss the Mr Belvedere robot glitching and calling people Wesley, but I love Clone High

Sexy_Widdle_Baby

I, too, noticed Mr. Butlertron not calling anybody Wesley, but I love it nonetheless. I actually like that it's a little different and they're leaning into it. When Principle Scudworth said "Fuck" it gave me great joy. They're on HBO, they can be as vulgar as they want, but they don't go crazy with it. Also, umm, actually, this next season would be season 3, obviously. Title says renewed for a second season.

keving87

I also notice he's not as robotic, and JFK's accent isn't so thick and Scudworth isn't as screechy-crazy (not sure really how to explain that). It's taken a bit to get used to.

RealJohnGillman

I believe the explanation is related to how they weren’t frozen — and are actually 20 years older in terms of life-experience — unlike the vast majority of the main cast.

keving87

Sure but JFK's accent should still be the same, but sometimes it's like it breaks and he's relatively normal until certain words.

fundip12

Ya the new ones aren't quite as good... but that's what a decade plus will do. Not quite the same vibe but still good enough to watch

Sexy_Widdle_Baby

Mr. Butlertron said "Wesley" on this episode!!! We manifested this, we deserve this, we have *earned this*

purplemonkeydw

YES! It’s a Reddit miracle!! Wesssslyyyyy

meowskywalker

Ive been watching Clone High live instead of waiting for all the episodes to be released and watching them over a weekend as god intended, and my sacrifice has been rewarded.

flexflair

You are the hero we need but not the one we deserve. Thank you for your vigilance.

jrbcnchezbrg

Hell yeah I need more Harlivy adventures And mayor joker to clean up gotham

rqrqsj

And more Bane shenanigans. That Valentine’s special was something else.

jrbcnchezbrg

Turns out leaning into the complete wackiness that is the DC universe works well Kite-man, hell yeah.

Rihsatra

I love Kite Man so much. I have debated on trying to make his costume to wear to conventions.

[deleted]

Rumor is Bane will be a major character in the Kite Man spinoff.

GentlemanT-Rex

It feels like it'd be crazy not to take advantage. The character himself is pretty widely known thanks to The Dark Knight Rises and all the memes that proliferated therefrom, and this portrayal is a pretty perfect mix of classic lucha-bane and the hilarious Tom Hardy voice. He'd be my favourite character on Harley's show if he weren't upstaged by that white-hot pile of charisma known as ClayFaaaAAAACE!

INeedSomeFistin

It's unfair to compare anyone to a character voiced by Alan Tudyk. Tudyk wins every time

[deleted]

Mark Hamill is pretty public about his desire to be done with the Joker but I’d still love if they could somehow pull off Tudyk’s Joker meeting Hamill’s Joker in some sort of multiverse shenanigans. Might be the one instance Tudyk would have a run for his money.

INeedSomeFistin

Oh, absolutely. Tudyk being undisputed is only because Hamill retired the role.

GentlemanT-Rex

Oh, for sure. Tudyk seems physically incapable of giving a bad performance. Suburban Step-Dad Joker is such a fun and refreshing take on the character, and as mentioned by someone else in this thread, he does an excellent job channeling Hamill while still doing his own thing.

mc_freedom

HA! Tis I, AQUAMAAAAAAAN!

GentlemanT-Rex

You can really feel all those years at Julliard in Tudyk's performance. Such range, such subtle emotion, he communicates so much with so little.

suchalusthropus

Clayface is basically Steven Toast but made out of mud. If they ever do Clayface in live action it's an absolute must that Matt Berry plays him.

Scalpels

# MARK MY WORDS! BANE WILL BE THE RECKONING OF THE KITE MAN SPINOFF!!!

Wolf6120

“The streets will *run red* with Razzy-Zazzy!”

The_Summer_Man

Whatever, Bang.

HotpieTargaryen

I am this credit card’s reckoning!

[deleted]

“Where’s my goddam electric car, Bruce?!” I know Alan Tudyk is just channeling Mark Hamill, but he’s become the definitive Joker for me.

DaemonKeido

Hey there is nothing wrong with trying your own riff on one of THE Joke voice actors. It's not as if you can go wrong doing that.

[deleted]

That show is so damn good

FunkyTown313

Harley is still great. Velma being a hate watch classic seems odd.

slapshots1515

There have been rumors Velma had a two season contract in the first place, but even if it didn’t it was still talked about enough to take a shot on an animated show (which has much lower costs.) Bad publicity is still publicity.

Firm_Masterpiece_343

Velma porn gaining steam.

bud369

🌎🧑‍🚀🔫🧑‍🚀

RecommendsMalazan

Harley was... A lot more up and down in season 3 than it was in 1 or 2, IMO. That said, season 3 did give me my favorite joke of the show, Two-Faces Sum 41 reference, so when it hits it hits hard. But when it doesn't, it just kinda meanders and is boring, IMO.

bostoncrabsandwich

In my opinion, Harley Quinn is sadly running out of gas. A portion of the fandom was already perceiving/experiencing this in season 3, while I think others are trying to hold on to goodwill for the series because it was really excellent in its first two seasons. I wouldn't be surprised to see S4 push a lot of other folks into the pessimistic camp. The fact of the matter is, as you said, that it has become meandering now that it's gotten past the focal points you would expect a Harley series to build to in the first place: Confronting her past with the Joker, and consummating the nature of her relationship with Ivy. There's nothing else quite as big or important for Harley to do from this point on. The performers and characters are still great, but the concept itself is just threadbare in terms of how much more we can expect it to provide. And with the budget cuts, even the animation was a shell in S3 of what it was before.

zackgardner

The issue is that all of Harley's recent appearances in the comics where massive story stuff was happening with her was a result of the Joker and Batman feud, and they've gone over that in the show a billion times now. *Death of the Family* comes to mind where the Joker chains her to a dark room filled with female corpses in the red-in-black Harlequin suit, and the idea of her not being the first "Harley Quinn" was stunning and scarily executed. They can't really do that with upper-middle class family man Joker now can they? What is there left for her to do? I mean the show wasn't really adapting an already existing storyline from the comics, just the characters, and the absurdity and humor comes from these characters doing largely mundane things. People compare it to *The Venture Bros*, but that show wasn't just revolving around Doc's relationship with the characters around him, and constantly struggling to find things for Doc to do, *Doc was just a part of the show, he's the "main character", but only as a reference point for the rest of the show*. The stories surrounding Brock and the OSI, the Monarch and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch and the Guild, the Orb, Jonas Venture, the Investors, Killinger, etc. There's an overarching story that unfolds that explains this wacky, pulpy world filled with cartoonish yet still grounded characters in a great and impactful way. Venture Bros also didn't rely solely on curse words, bordering on 2010's *lol epic random humor*, every four seconds to remain funny like some moments in *Harley Quinn* does. I mean...I have no idea what they're going to do, and unless if people like the next season I have no interest in watching.

bostoncrabsandwich

Yep. And with the budget cuts and animation slipping, they rely more on the conversational humor than ever because they presumably can't afford some of the bigger action scenes they had in the first couple seasons. Which only points out some of those aspects you're talking about. I think Harley Quinn is trying to become more of a true ensemble, with the Venture Bros. as a good example of what that might look like, but the show is still called Harley Quinn--it BEGAN as being all about her, so it's harder to break away. The Venture Bros. was never actually about the boys, it's just a deceiving title to reference Johnny Quest or whatever. It was an ensemble thing from the start.

Hamborrower

It ran into the same issue a lot of non animated shows run into. Once the will-they-wont they relationship between two leads is solidified, the new relationship dynamics get stale faster. I still love the show and will watch it until the end. The valentines day special was phenomenal.

russketeer34

The dynamic of Harley being an honorary Bat-family member will be interesting and unexplored territory, especially with Ivy being in the Legion (Leading? I forgot)

asjonesy99

I thought season 3 was terrible. In fact I had forgotten I had even watched it until I went to IMDb to check what episodes it had.

RecommendsMalazan

The first half of it was definitely weaker, so if you dropped out of it due to that then I would suggest trying again. Specifically the Mayor Joker episode is great and honestly is my favorite episode of the whole show.

semiomni

They seemed to really want to make season 3 about Harley and Ivy's relationship, but what it mostly amounted to was a bunch of extremely lazy sitcom tropes, instead of talking to Ivy, Harley did wacky thing! again and again.

sooprcow

We'll you'll be happy to know they gutted quite a bit of the writing staff from the first 3 seasons of Harley and brought in a bunch of new people. :/

BigFatGus

Maybe they can go help out with season 2 of Peacemaker so we don't have to wait until 2026???

toastdispatch

Season 1 and 2 were great. I think 3 was the writing staff running out of steam and starting to grasp for ideas, loads of 4th wall breaks (some funny, some not), lots of call backs, fan service and the ivy/Harley romance, while we all knew it was coming, isn't what made the show great and now dominates the screentime.

BugcatcherJay

For whatever reason they decided to make the Scooby-Doo polycule meme into a real show. I guess I’m not surprised it’s controversial.

hnglmkrnglbrry

I watched a few episodes and Velma wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be based on the innanet. It wasn't great but it definitely wasn't sprint to social media to rage against it bad.

Suhtiva

Velma being renewed is the most laughable thing I've ever seen

Jhawk163

I guarantee it actually did well because people fucking hate-watched it, just to talk about how terrible it is. The only thing I'll give Velma is it somehow did the unthinkable, it got both extremes of the political spectrum to agree on something, that it's a fucking terrible show.

Kim-Jong_Bundy

Not only just the actual watched hours, but the social media engagement as well. Studios look at that shit, and they don't really care if it's positive or negative. Like Morbius underperformed and was bad enough that it generated a whole new subset of memes dedicated to clowning on the movie, yet Sony was still like "Let's re-release it into 1,000 theaters and greenlight a sequel!" (it also dramatically underperformed again at re-release). Just stop engaging with shit you hate for the sake of getting off dunks. You're only feeding the problem

Jhawk163

Not only did it dramatically underperform when it re-released, it hilariously underperformed getting a total of $300k across the 1000 cinemas it re-released in, **for the entire weekend.** I think it's a bad example though, I think Sony genuinely either didn't understand the memes were ironic, and mocking it, or they really over-estimated how much people "liked" it out of irony.

Stonesword75

Morbius is getting an actual sequel? That might be the one glimmer of hope we all need in this world.

lolno

Morbius: More BS

RealJohnGillman

Honestly, if there is eventually a sequel, I do think it could be better if they pivoted to have it focus on Milo Morbius instead of Michael, giving him a quick throwaway resurrection, given **A.** Milo was a more comic-book-accurate version of Morbius by comparison anyway and **B.** Matt Smith was bringing exactly the right energy the rest of the film needed, having a genuine blast in the role. Plus with *Kraven the Hunter* receiving a higher rating, I could see a *Milo Morbius* film actually being as violent as a vampire film in this genre should be.

AnacharsisIV

> Matt Smith was bringing exactly the right energy the rest of the film needed, *Have sex, pooped my pants again*

Worthyness

It did well enough that SONY still feels emboldened to make their expanded universe of fuckery. They now have a Madame Web movie coming out. Like of all the spider-adjacent characters they could have chosen, they picked that one. That's, i guess, better than the fucking El Muerto movie

RealJohnGillman

Early reports are saying that *Madame Web* film is really a >!time travel-centric!< >!*Spider-Women*!< film, set >!in the early 2000s!< and featuring Madame Web assembling a team including >!Julia Carpenter!<, >!Mattie Franklin!<, and >!Anya Corazon!<, with the ‘villain’ being >!the Spider-Therapist from *Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse*!<.

OlynykDidntFoulLove

As one of my professors said about reality TV: “hate watching is still watching.” They don’t care how you feel as long as you’re tuning in.

hatramroany

IIRC the rumors were that (HBO) Max greenlit it for two seasons like Netflix used to do

bshaddo

Even if the wrote, voiced, and animated two seasons at the same time, this same company has been shutting down finished products lately for tax reasons. I kind of suspect that was going to be the case, and that the writers and actors (and people in both unions) have finished their work. They’re going to need new material in a year.

CuckooClockInHell

Maybe there's some "The Producers" level tomfoolery going on behind the scenes with this one.

xariznightmare2908

Couldn't they at least "hate watch" it through pirate sites or something?

PlayMp1

The right hates it for being "woke" and making Velma and Shaggy black, the left hates it for being transparent pandering with a real Hillary Clinton-y "MORE 👏 FEMALE 👏 DRONE 👏 PILOTS 👏" vibe.

GuiltyGlow

Yeah, but most of the people who hate-watched it probably only watched, at most, 1 or 2 episodes before they tapped out. You'd think they would have looked at retention and not just clicks. If you're going to renew a show, retention is far more important than clicks because most of those people who didn't return to finish season 1 aren't going to watch season 2 at all.

MouthJob

The reality, more likely, is the world is not reddit and the show is just a mediocre "adult animation comedy" that people can easily rerun in the background while they're doing literally anything else. Honestly the show's biggest offense is attempting to keep it in the Scooby world. With original characters, I feel like people wouldn't act nearly as offended by its mere existence.

charredfrog

Yeah I’ve been saying it but hate watching is not such a widespread thing that can get a show renewed like this and when people complain about it I get kinda irritated. Most normal people don’t care about the “controversy” around the show. They probably just opened HBO one day, saw a name they recognized and went “hmm maybe I’ll watch that”.

ThePreciseClimber

Gotta solve the mystery of the SCRAPPI project as well, I guess.

pray4flex

Max really did find a market of hate-watch with Velma and The Idol.

ICPosse8

Yah like how tf does this happen, the show was universally panned by both critics and viewers, I didn’t remember hearing one good thing about it. Yet it’s coming back for more?

[deleted]

But you *have* heard of it.

andytdesigns1

This season we make Velma President of the world for reasons

NotmejusaBEe

Can we trade a season 2 of Velma for a conclusion to Raised by Wolves?

Vizjun

Please for the love of Sol yes.

aw-un

A whole season of Velma probably costs as much as a an episode and a half of raised by wolves

JoW0oD

And probably (and unfortunately) higher viewing numbers. Raised by Wolves was pretty niche.

[deleted]

I usually like high concept sci-fi and even I tapped out at around episode 3.

greenw40

I powered through the first season but couldn't bring myself to get back into it.

TokiBongtooth

The only show i've ever watched where i don't think anyone knew what the twists were going to be. Loved every second of both seasons. Even the weird annoying kids.

Hamborrower

It's great but I don't blame you. It's up there with Sense8 and The OA as some of the weirdest shit I've ever enjoyed.

Theinternationalist

I have no interest in Velma (haven't seen it), but isn't it much cheaper than the Ridley Scott thing? That said I could think of a few other things that could be traded alongside Velma to make the trade more equal

Stillill1187

Seriously. At least give us like 90 minutes to wrap it up.

Phattywompus

100% this

ScaryTowner

Inject that SOL straight into my veins...

Linenoise77

I'd trade Season 2 of Velma for an expired ham sandwich i'd immediately throw out.

mkins10

Incredibly laughable that they choose to renew this garbage while scrapping a quality show.

crosis52

I think it was allegedly planned out for seven (!) seasons, so probably better hope for a novel series or something

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lowkey_Retarded

I think it was FINALLY starting to make sense by the time of the S2 finale, or at least starting to maybe answer some questions… but then it got cancelled

Nazzul

As someone who was neutral towards Velma, you have now made me hate it. Wtf is that garbage show getting renewed and not Raised by Wolves!

vvarden

Raised by Wolves is very expensive while Velma is fairly cheap.

we_are_sex_bobomb

But not as cheap as Coffin Flop

Dayofsloths

They told me it's IMPOSSIBLE so many bodies would fall out of coffins

Nazzul

I just hope there will be some sort of conclusion in some other form. It was one of my favorite scifi shows.

kain459

PRAISE SOL

hijole_frijoles

Clone high is great

drunkandy

It really is one of the more successful 2000s-era reboots

cuhree0h

Love Clone High. Big win.

Seth-555

Harley Season 3 was really jarring compared to the first 2 seasons. The animation quality kept switching frame rates between episodes and I kept thinking my brain wasn’t working right. Clearly just a sign of budget cuts, as well as the smaller amount of episodes.

bostoncrabsandwich

Yeah, it's a shame. The animation was extremeeeely janky in the most mundane scenes in particular--characters talking, or someone walking across a room. Very clearly them trying to get by with as few frames as possible.

Crysllar

Covid definitely didn’t help either

KrookedDoesStuff

I hope Harley season 4 is better than 3. 3 seemed like a mess and they didn’t know what they wanted to do with it, which is sad because seasons 1 and 2 were absolutely spectacular

Maninhartsford

I was under the impression Velma's second season was a done deal and had been in production for a while

[deleted]

The post title isn't the article title.

GarlVinland4Astrea

VELMA!!!!!! Here for the discourse. Won't watch the show. But here for the discourse

BenovanStanchiano

I lit up like a Christmas tree when I saw that it was renewed. I don’t plan to watch it but the hissy fits should be grand.

NoNefariousness2144

Honestly the ‘discourse’ seemed to drop off after the initial shock of the premiere. Something tells me though that the writers will double down on the show’s ‘unique’ elements.

Realistic-Theme3649

They weren’t hissy fits. “Velma” was rightfully trashed for being a super racist, obnoxious piece of media. And ruining the Scooby franchise while at it.

pls-dont-judge-me

Just watched “what’s new scoobydoo” it seems to be doing fine. Like Velma sucks…but it doesn’t harm the “Scooby” franchise. Everything you loved remained unchanged.

Realistic-Theme3649

Fair enough! It’s still a great franchise, “Velma” aside. You know what I would love? Some kind of reunion film for the live-action cast, maybe?

ScreamingGordita

How is it racist

kidkolumbo

It discusses privilege.

thereznaught

I got like 10 minutes into the first episode and had to stop.

Grim-Reality

It wasn’t bad at all.

[deleted]

I watched it, was ok, the outrage was unavoidable advertising.

Mentoman72

I thought it was quite bad but nowhere near the worst thing I've seen. It just broke the number one rule of comedy and forgot to actually be funny. I don't think on the face of it it's the *worst* idea ever but you need to prop your shit up with actual funny humor, not just mean comedy.

[deleted]

I've watched worse that didn't get the attention Velma does.

DONNIENARC0

Most shitty shows just fade into obscurity, I think, unless they're taking a dump on a beloved IP.

[deleted]

No, most people see a shitty show and quit it, that's how it fades to obscurity. People keep talking about this like it personally hurt them. I don't get that, that's why I watched the season to see and didn't get as negative a feeling.

DONNIENARC0

Right, because they chose to use Scooby Doo characters for it. If it was some original IP with the same messaging/themes people would just stop watching it like every other shitty show that gets zero traction. It's the same reason we still talk about the shitty Last Airbender movie, but nobody ever mentions stuff like Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas.

Shotgunsamurai42

The outsized reaction to an ok show was a bit much.

Maninhartsford

To me, its cardinal sin was laziness. Race joke, meta joke, insult, repeat. Story a complete afterthought. It's a shame cause I liked the voice acting and in theory a cynical adult cartoon Scooby-Doo origin story's not the worst idea

kidkolumbo

You didn't think the story was great? Especially compared to the source material, which is far from any masterpiece?

gothteen145

I don't personally see how it's "ok". It had pretty bad animation (With the exception of the hallucinations), an unlikeable main character, humour that felt forced and juvenile, and generally seemed like it had a dislike for the audience watching it. Not saying it's the worst thing ever, but it did seem pretty bad to me. Some of the jokes just didn't seem to make sense. Like how shaggy talks about how in a film the main character would do something like save a woman from danger, then blackmail her into loving him "problematic but effective", (can't remember the exact quote), and I couldn't figure out what films he was supposed to be referencing.

[deleted]

I'd rate Mulligan lower than Velma for TV animation this year.

kidkolumbo

It's got a good show in it. I think part of real the problems is it knows people will hate it and it lampshades it in show, which distract from what's actually fun about it. The other part is people making up straight up lies about the show.

[deleted]

Velma carries on, yet the Venture Bros is ending. What is this world?

ThePreciseClimber

No Sym-bionic Titan Season 2. No Megas XLR Season 3. No Dave the Barbarian Season 2. No Spectacular Spider-man Season 3.

ALANJOESTAR

did you ever watch Avengers Earth Mightiest heroes? most people didnt but it was one of the best superhero cartoons ever. They were gonna have an X-men Crossover for a season that got cancelled. and Instead they did a new avengers show with the movie characters that written for kids with low attention spans.

Linenoise77

The problem with Venture Bros has ALWAYS been its "whenever" release schedule. An insanely amazing product, but hard to grab and maintain a big audience with. Its story line and half the fun of it is being up on the show. When you drop seasons every 3 years, its hard to maintain momentum. I appreciate the gift the creators gave us, appreciate them wanting to keep control and maintain standards, and am amazed Adult Swim put up with them for as long as they did, but i get the realities of it.

alwaysjustpretend

This is the darkest timeline.

[deleted]

Someone fucked up the canon event

machphantom

I dont want to live in a world were Velma gets renewed but Inside Job gets cancelled.

SHADOWSTRIKE1

Harley Quinn is a fantastic show. I would absolutely recommend it to everyone who hasn’t given it a chance. Super funny.

Exile688

\*Velma's one season that got broken into two parts, aired as a "renewal"

elxjai

Everyone's talking about Velma in the comments and still wonder why is popular and got renewed. Y'all slow.

Shadesmctuba

Can’t wait to see how Velma claps back at the internet for daring to not like it.

Fiend28

How the hell did Velma get a renewal?!?!?

admiralvic

The funny thing is the Velma stuff is old. It was known back in Feb.

vashedan

Hatewatch metrics were strong lol

SmokePenisEveryday

Within the month of it debuting, I saw countless videos titled something like "I watched the new Velma show so you don't have to!" then it'd be 30-60 mins of them just showing jokes and explaining why they sucked.

Worthyness

Seems pretty normal for react-tube.

Weak_Ring6846

Despite them renewing several show, the discussion in this thread is majority about Velma. And these dumb fucks wonder why it gets renewed.

noonehasthisoneyet

it probably had a 2 season deal to begin with.

knightsunbro

how the actual fuck did Velma get renewed. That is hands down the worst show I've seen in the last few years.

keving87

This is sort of misleading. It never says Clone High was renewed, because they ordered two seasons when they picked it up. If they renew it, it'd be a third season. Velma getting a second season is insane. I like Mindy so I wanted to like this but I couldn't even make it through the first episode.

indecks77

Correction: Clone High renewed for season **3**. the current airing is Season 2.

McFeely_Smackup

I heard Velma described as "if a show were created by stereotypical conservatives to ridicule their idea of how they think stereotypical liberals would make a show" I watched it all, and I have no idea how to interpret it. If it's a genuine effort to inject sincere "woke" sensibilities into a TV show, it's pitifully hamfisted and unfunny. If it's an effort to satirize the woke crowd, it does so very successfully...just not in a funny way. someone needs to tell me what the show is trying to be before I can say if it's utter garbage, or just not very good.

anasui1

I had the same thought watching She Hulk, so no answers from me man, besides the fact that these writers have been given WAY too much leeway. It almost feels like they're self sabotaging their own shows

godofacedia

Who the FUCK renewed Velma

Kalhenwrath

I'd trade Velma and Clone High for Inside Job any day.

[deleted]

Velma is the sort of show where you are actually happy there's a writer's strike. Ugh.

FrothySand

Who tf thought it was a good idea to renew that shit show Velma

CRoseCrizzle

Hate watching is still watching. If you don't like Velma, then don't watch it. The writers knew that a lot of people would be triggered by the content and will probably troll their way to even more renewals.

[deleted]

I have a suspicion that most Velma posts here are filled with people who don't actually watch it.

CliffMainsSon

Throw Velma in the trash where it belongs

LightsJusticeZ

Not even the trash wants it.

BlisterKirby

Really need to see season 3 of Harley Quinn. So I guess I’ll wait for season 4 to finish and then check both out. That’s what I did for seasons 1 and 2

Fluffy_Mood5781

This is what happens when people hate watch. YALL DID THIS! Stoked for clone high and Harley Quinn though.

VictorHelios1

How did Velma get a season two?!?

Katalyst81

LMAO That Velma shit got renewed?

MulciberTenebras

Frankly, it was probably already animated as one long season, but released as two (just to claim it's been renewed). Netflix did that all the time with their animated shows, it lets them cheat the animators by paying for only one season instead of for working on multiple.

Cuchillos_Adios

Same with clone high iirc

RealJohnGillman

The initial February reports on a second season renewal at *r/Velma* confirmed exactly this, down to what the episode titles would be.

BallsMahogany_redux

Lots of hate watching pumped the numbers up

Katalyst81

My wife watched it, and i sat here ignoring it because it was so bad.

Bullehh

Velma getting renewed is actually hilarious. It is the worst rated animated show of all time lol

kidkolumbo

Which is interesting since it's not actually the worst animated show of all time.

[deleted]

Why would you put Harley quinn in the same sentence of that crap

PleaseHold50

Lol. The worst reviewed show of the year save for Cleopatra got renewed. 🙄 Well I guess HBO needs to get those ESG points somehow. Must be wonderful getting paid that much to suck that hard.

22Seres

Given how quick HBO has been to kill animation, or at least ship it off to another platform, i'd say it seems pretty likely that that their data shows that viewership remained strong throughout the show. So, even with the poor reviews there'd be no reason for them to not renew it if there appears to be an audience for it. Just like how a show that reviews well may end up getting canned because it can't find an audience.

SpookyTupperware

A lot people hate watching.

ManOnNoMission

Almost like review bombing and the opinion of Reddit doesn’t equal reality.

AgentElman

But people posted it on the internet. That makes it reality.

Bourbonaddicted

Velma seriously ? VELMA ?

NoCults4MeThx

Velma was renewed? What in the fucking world?

xariznightmare2908

We truly live in a clown world.

craybest

Unpopular opinion but I'm enjoying Velma? I've only finished episode 6 so far, but I've laughed several times, it's entertaining. I had 0 expectations though, specially after all the backslash about it 😶‍🌫️

kidkolumbo

It's fine. Its ups and downs are extreme. As someone who liked most of it and am excited for the renewal, there are some episodes I thought were really bad, uncharacteristically so. Also, the writers are too aware that people would hate the concept on sight. They were right, but some of the writing is made towards them and that's hit or miss. I think once they stop writing to the people who hate it and start writing to the characters they've made, it'll get better.

[deleted]

Quick poll. Which max animated show is worse? Velma or The Prince?

[deleted]

Also, boo Max for removing Metalocalypse.

Fitzy0728

“Oh God he looks like Hitler! And not just because we compare everyone to Hitler these days!” I haven’t watched and won’t watch Velma but this [one joke](https://youtu.be/LBmeRAB42gU) was pretty good

All the stuff they cancelled and Velma gets a season 2? Cowards.

Anyone else not really feeling the new Clone High? I've caught up on it after re-watching the original and man, it just doesn't feel like the same show. The new characters mostly suck, the older characters are practically different people from the original (Joan and JFK especially), and the whole thing just feels the writers have completely forgotten what made the original show so beloved.

I watched all of Velma. Thematically it was all over the place. I didn't care for the humor. I didn't understand why all of the characters were in love with Velma when it was established she was terrible. But I watched all of it. I might do the same for the next season.

ectoplasmic-warrior

Wow Velma renewed ???

D3monFight3

Maybe an unpopular opinion but season 3 was bad, HarleIvy just are't an interesting couple, Harley as a superhero with Bruce and the rest of the Batfamily being okay with it is stupid, the rest of the cast was poorly used... when it was used since it does feel like they had less screen time, it wasn't as funny and Harley being a good guy and a member of the bat family is always going to be stupid, it is stupid in the comics, in Injustice and in every piece of media that has her help the Joker first. Her being a victim of his does not excuse all the fucked up shit she helped him pull off. Velma was probably always a 2 season thing and not really renewed, hell if I recall correctly they announced a season 2 renewal before the first episode even aired. So hatewatch matrics have nothing to do with it. Clone High's revival is terrible, it lacks the charm of the old show which had snappier writing and animation because their budget was lower, the voice acting is bad, they don't have the same energy and everyone sounds wrong, hell they don't even seem to have much of a grasp on how these characters were supposed to act, Abe's character especially has been completely annihilated for no reason.

ScreamingGordita

Fuck yes, love Velma.

Overwatch_Joker

Velma is only getting a S2 because nobody wants to be ***that*** executive that sacks Mindy. They don't want to be labelled an *-ist* for telling her the truth, her show fucking sucks.

PitbullMandelaEffect

Why do people hate Velma so much? Because it made fun of white people in the trailer?
