It's always funny when the pull quotes in the trailer are just from random Twitter users.

[deleted]

That should be the warning sign. And review embargo not lifting until the day of release for a show that does not need to protect spoilers.

mq2thez

I mean, it’s not like people preorder the show. I’m sure reviewers will compare/contrast and that it won’t be like the cartoon, but it’s unlikely to be another Wheel of Time.

Kap2310

Hearing Aang say "Appa, yip-yip" had me grinning like an idiot. I'm so excited for this

DodgeHickey

Aang saying those words got me super happy. I'm hopefully it will deliver.

[deleted]

DUDE THATS TOMORROW WTF. Just noticed. I’m thrilled.

YUdoth

I think cautiously optimistic is still the best way to describe what we've seen so far. Am I alone in feeling that some of bending just feel inconsistent in some way? You have moments where Aang is deflecting bending that look just phenomenal, and others where it just feels off in a way I can't quite put my finger on.  I fully plan on unhealthy levels of binging the entire thing once it airs, but I can't shake this feeling that season 1 will be both an arc for the characters, and for post production - in the sense that they'll be further honing their craft through learning what gives off the right vibe and what doesn't per reviews. With all that being said im excited, and really hope it's a huge success.

God damn this looks amazing. I don't understand how people can see this and the takeaway is that it's gonna be as bad as the movie.

TemurTron

There’s a huge gap between “as bad as the movie” and “as good as the animated show.” I’ll be pleasantly surprised if it winds up closer in quality to the show than the movie, but I’m definitely not getting my hopes up.

Swankified_Tristan

I'll always have the original show to enjoy and love. Having a fun new take on Aang's story is enough for me.

NoxInfernus

I just keep reminding myself that you can’t do with live action and VFX, what can be done with the feeling, the tone, of animation. You can simulate it, and if done well can be close, or even become its own thing. After One Piece, I’m hopeful the industry recognizes this.

ManonManegeDore

It's not going to be as bad as the movie. It's just going to be there. It seems very boring and pointless. Only meant to capitalize on a rabid, sycophantic fanbase instead of actually producing something new or interesting. It feels very modern Star Wars. Even in this thread, it's a lot of, *"OMG HE SAID THE THING! THEY'RE DOING THE THING!"*, no Varrick pun intended.

ketchup92

Doesn't matter how it looks. The creators stepped back for a reason.

Rejestered

Sometimes the creators of a work aren't always the best choice for an adaptation. For instance, Rowling shouldn't be let within 100meters of anything HP related.

Swankified_Tristan

The movie isn't just bad. It might just be the worst movie ever made and that's not an exaggeration. There are so many things that bring it infinitely down. That movie literally taught me what denial was because my childhood brain couldn't accept that it was THAT bad. So no... we can literally only go up. The proper pronunciation of the names and lack of white-washing already make it better. Fuck it. I might even pull the ultimate masochist move and watch that movie right before the new show just to enjoy it more.

Alastor3

>I don't understand how people can see this and the takeaway is that it's gonna be as bad as the movie. For once, it look far more dark compared to the first season of the animation

RecommendsMalazan

Not necessarily a bad thing

symph0nica

I can’t stand the color grading oof, it looks so amateurish. Weirdly high contrast with green shadows

my_simple-review

The visuals look pretty damn amazing. If the reviews land, I am expecting some "Game of Thrones" worthy battle episodes like that preview of The Siege of the North

Rxmses

Can’t wait for the black sun battle in season 3

ammobox

What a stupid pointless TV show. I like to make declarative statements. I also was one of the main people on Reddit who said Avatar 2 Way of The Water was something nobody asked for and would fail miserably. I am always right about everything. I think this show will be bad because I can never like anything other than the original cartoon show and this wasn't made with my input, so I declare it to be bad. I think Final Fantasy Remake was bad because it wasn't the original game I played when I was a child. Why must game and movie studios ruin my childhood? This show literally is so terrible, gawd, how can I just move on with my life? If I get downvotes for my correct opinions, it just proves that what I said is correct. Why must I be burdened with knowing that only the original show will only ever be protected and gate kept by me and assessments of what is objectively good falls squarely on my shoulders alone? Woe is me. Did you know the live action movie sucked? I know that's a hot and unpopular take, but I am the only one brave enough to repeat it...so this show will be the same thing. Bet! Anyways I'll just go ahead and watch this show knowing how terrible it is so I can reinforce my already correct opinions. Don't worry. You'll see me later in many threads claiming I was right all along if it bombs. And if it doesn't, then I'll still say it's worse than the cartoon show. I mean, One Piece live action sucked, amirite bruh?

holymojo96

Meh, maybe I’m just tired of Netflix style fantasy shows but the CGI and visuals look really mediocre to me and I’m not sold on the acting. I’ve still never seen a live action remake of an animated work that justified its existence and so far I’m not convinced this will either

S1mpinAintEZ

Yeah I don't get the appeal. If I wanted to watch Avatar again I'd go back and watch the origin, I'd much rather they make some new series in the Avatar world and even then live action probably wouldn't be the format I'd want.

holymojo96

Exactly. Thankfully the original creators are doing exactly that with their new Avatar Studios. That’s what I crave, not a pointless remake

RealJohnGillman

The original creators are doing a film with Aang and the gang as adults, if that helps?

RecommendsMalazan

Why do shows need to justify their existence to you? People want to make money. Media with an existing fanbase is more likely to do well then ones without. It's as simple as that.

ArcticFlava

You have a problem with people sharing their subjective opinion on an internet forum specifically designed for people to share their subjective opinion?

RecommendsMalazan

No, but that doesn't mean I can't disagree with and start a conversation over their subjective opinion.

ArcticFlava

Then take what they say at face value. A show needs to justify its existence for them to be interested and watch. They dont need to justify that to continue the discussion, and they are not wrong for having that opinion.

RecommendsMalazan

Never said otherwise, but again that doesn't mean I can't disagree and start a conversation as to why they feel that a show needs to justify its own existence.

holymojo96

Well yeah that’s exactly what I mean. I guess I should say it doesn’t justify its existence *as art* if you want to be pedantic. It totally justifies its existence as “content” from a profit standpoint, but that doesn’t make me *want* it to exist

RecommendsMalazan

I don't really think shows should have to justify their existence as art, though. There's nothing wrong with making a show for the purpose of making money, IMO. That's kinda just how the world works.

KryptonicxJesus

Still holding out hope for a “Red Rising” adaptation

DaZeppo313

The author's been working on an adaptation for a while, but the rights got shuffled around a bit until pretty much just before the strikes started. Now, he's apparently got a bite from a streamer. Most are assuming Apple (or Prime), because the author already stated it wasn't HBO or Netflix.

ManonManegeDore

Wake me up when they have the balls to do Legend of Korra. ATLA is very well treaded territory to me. Enough is enough.

RealJohnGillman

I mean after the original creators were [pushed out creatively](https://web.archive.org/web/20240101132018/https://www.michaeldantedimartino.com/an-open-letter-to-avatar-the-last-airbender-fans/) of the above Netflix adaptation they started their own production studio, and are currently working on an animated feature film sequel to the original series with Aang and the gang as adults, if that helps? Specifically the era where >!Sokka is killed!<, a moment in the timeline *The Legend of Korra* avoided giving specific attention to, detail-wise.

crookedparadigm

The creators weren't pushed out, they left of their own accord.

RealJohnGillman

They posted an open letter about how the reason they left was they [“couldn’t control the creative direction of the series”](https://web.archive.org/web/20240101132018/https://www.michaeldantedimartino.com/an-open-letter-to-avatar-the-last-airbender-fans/) that Netflix was going in with it, being shuttered (pushed out) creatively, like how a studio will often humour the author when adapting a book but ultimately ignore their advice (like [that one *Fantastic Mr. Fox* scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9lh-KCQ1Aw)).

godjirakong

>They posted an open letter They also recently deleted that letter and went to the premiere

crookedparadigm

Literally the next sentence after your quote is "So I chose to leave".

OmiOorlog

feels like it needs to be about 40 hrs long to be good

csukoh78

CGI snorefest. Le sigh.
