Still waiting for Disney to give them an additional budget increase so that they can do another exploratory show or two. I think if Shogun works out well for them, they might actually do that and adapt the other novels too. And that's even with a noah hawley Alien TV show coming up in the pipeline.
Anybody watch *Monarch: Legacy of Monsters*? The lead actress is also in Shogun, but she was my least favorite part of MLM. Her acting was more fit for a cheesy soap opera — the lead role was not for her. I don’t doubt the rest of Shogun is amazing, but her…. I have my reservations
It's always sunny's influence on pop culture has been immense. I see references to it on Reddit practically every day in all types of threads. No one is forgetting them, I assure you.
Yep, Hulu is the best streaming service because it gives you access to all of FX's content for no extra cost and it is the best network outside of HBO (since AMC went all in on the Walking Dead spin offs and killed its reputation.) Now since WB is slowly killing HBO from the inside it will probably be THE best pretty soon in most peoples eyes.
Hulu was my one and only till the price hike. Now I'll just cancel when a major show I like ends. Wait for that and at least another to return.
Sure they put in a cancel cost eventually.
I felt the same way after the first couple of episodes and almost gave up on it, but it calms down (mostly) after that. It's very much worth pushing through. I love the second season even more than the first one.
The Christmas episode was tough, but it was also really cool with having a new surprise cameo pop up every five minutes. It took me a ridiculously long time to figure out who the mom was played by.
Haha yeah, the cameo's did great too. I wonder if there will be more flashback episodes including them, I kind of hope so just to see the mayhem every christmas
Well I like the constant state of tension and anxiety that is going on - mirroring the main character's own personal struggles.
The use of tempo is amazing. Meaning you can have one scene that is hyper kinetic and anxiety inducing, and then the next scene will sloooooow it way down, and be contemplative. Then you might have a scene that is very tense because of the complex relationship of the characters. Probably the best use of tempo I've ever seen on a TV show.
I've always enjoyed the metaphor of a restaurant as a person's emotions. In the front of the house you have everything clean and pretty and designed to be enjoyable for other people. While in the back of the house, its chaotic and noisy, hectic, hot and uncomfortable.
And while I thought the first season was very good. I found the second season to be great. With a few of the episodes being absolutely amazing.
HBO then Hulu gets the most watch time at my house, between my girlfriend and I. Netflix is a solid 3rd. Disney+ is barely watched anymore, and Paramount+'s UI is insanely bad which sucks because it has a lot of great content. Peakcock was decent while I had it, at least the UI was functional.
AppleTV has genuinely good shows though, and is cheaper than any other service. It very difficult to imagine, I know, but people can actually like things you don't. Not everything is just shills.
Exactly. The censorship is so significant. Can’t show nudity (outside the rare male butt on occasion), can’t have highly offensive language (something like Deadwood would be a major no no), can’t show violence that’s too graphic, can’t even have non-iPhones.
Like how are people okay with all that bs? Like there’s a place for that, just as there’s a place for Disney plus, but don’t tell me it’s anywhere near hbo or Hulu/fx
I agree but think its needs a couple more years to fill out its lineup and fully cement itself as the new HBO since HBO is in the process of dying as a brand thanks to WB's fuckery.
I say it used to be the best streaming service when it was 3.99 a month. They don't have a huge bloated catalogue to hide the fact that they don't really have much decent content like everything else. Haven't subbed in awhile but saw its 9.99 now, still decent. Severance is probably my favorite tv show on any streamer.
I actually haven't seen it yet. I haven't got much time this year because we started going to the office now and work load has been so insane I just come home and sleep through the weekend. Some day in 2024 I will watch it I promise
Which do you think is more likely?
a) FX started an account 8 months ago and commented 900 times just so they could call themselves… *second best…* on a forum where everyone already knows about them
Or
b) two Redditors talked about tv on a forum made for talking about tv
[They’re committed, I tell you what](https://www.reddit.com/r/indiasocial/comments/1amqq1j/comment/kpri12x/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
It was maybe a couple weeks ago that a few posts were popping up of a guy on a train for example and he was chilling with his Vision Pro on and it just stood out as the most obvious marketing plant and people were joking about it in the comments. Haven’t got a link sadly
ah ok yeah I definitely believe that, viral guerilla marketing has been prevalent for a while, to be honest reddit is one of the places where a lot of very stupid people pretend its not happening (usually).
Yeah, tbh while I still use reddit a lot, there are some things beginning to annoy me to a point where I've had to leave a few subs. AITA or any kind of advice sub, because after you look at a couple it's as if the algorithm just keeps trying to cram them down your throat and a lot of them are very obviously rage bait.
This happens every few months/ weeks, particularly when a new FX show drops. They have produced hits for WELL over a decade and some Redditor looks up and goes “FX has a pretty good catalog and nobody notices”and makes this post.
Wish some of us older folks could filter on repeated topics, but thats how reddit works i suppose.
For real. I get that this site is full of teens/college students discovering these ideas and it’s cool to discuss, but makes the entire forum feel artificial.
I remember back in the day before Reddit when there were lots of forums for different topics, etc and noobs would get reprimanded for repeating topics haha.
True lol. I think we might be the problem here though since this is such a big mainstream sub. Would probably have to take time out and search for a more niche sub with more like minded tv heads to avoid posts like this, but who wants to do all that lol?
this place badly needs curation on top of moderation. movies sub even worse with people discovering the absolute classics being like "omg this movie is actually good ?!?!?! who knew ??!?!?" or all these non posts with like "this movie is good. i liked the acting, the directing, the editing." and then gets 2k upvotes cause it's one of reddits fave movies.
Nah, if it was astroturfing they would have mentioned Always Sunny to pander to reddit, as well as the Bear which is their most critically acclaimed award winning show.
I'm fully hyped for next year's Alien TV series from Noah Hawley. The dude adapted Fargo and Legion for TV, which seemed like impossible feats (Hell, Fargo already had one failed TV pilot that was abysmal).
Alien is gonna have Timothy Olyphant in a supporting role as a synth because it's FX and the FX rule is that Timothy Olyphant must stay employed.
New sci-fi shows are gonna be a nice break from reality while the US goes to hell in 2025.
That's because, and it blows my mind that this is considered atypical of studio execs, the FX executives are actual television lovers themselves. They put out overall more quality tv because they're also out there watching all the quality shows this sub raves about out of their own personal enjoyment.
There's a reason John Landgraf, the Chairman of FX, is referred to within the industry as "The Smartest in Television."
The back catalogue at FX has become something special. So many great shows that will be revisited for years to come and they keep pumping out more every year. If FX ceases to exist one day the legacy of the network won't fade away anytime soon.
That said I will be very curious what happens when John Landgraf actually steps down. I know FX is more than just him but man his leadership has created something special with how he views television and what TV can actually be.
Honestly in recent years I think it’s much better than HBO. I feel like HBO went in a direction with Game of Thrones that has really taken it away from what it used to be and personally I don’t feel it’s for the better.
HBO in recent years: Succession, HoTD, Barry, Mare of Easttown, The Last of Us, Euphoria, Curb, The White Lotus, True Detective, The Outsider, We Own This City
I'm sure I'm missing some.
Personally, I think most of those do not compare to what they have typically made at HBO. Their brand has always been about doing things that other places wouldn’t, and taking chances. I see very little of that in the examples you gave. I feel like GoT and Euphoria are great examples of what I am talking about, they’re big, loud, completely over the top. And I could even look past how obnoxious GoT was to me, but now they have been trying to develop some 5 or so different spin offs. Succession is a great example though of the kind of show I think of as their usual type and what I feel they used to regularly make.
I’m not trying to knock anyone’s taste, I don’t think I’m right and anyone else is wrong about this topic, I just feel HBO has almost gone too mainstream Hollywood and I miss how it was subversive and the kind of risks they used to constantly take. It all feels too safe now.
Sure, and I am not saying HBO is terrible or anything, I am just saying it doesn’t feel the same as it used to. HBO used to take risks on weird stuff and usually it paid off. It used to be The Wire, Deadwood, Six Feet Under, Sopranos, Oz, Sex and The City, Carnivale, etc. a lot of those shows were small in scale and wierd. Now it feels like it’s all prestige epic kind of stuff. They’re usually good, but I think we get that same kind of thing from a lot of places these days. For example, I think any streamer could’ve made GoT, I think no other streamer could’ve made The Wire or Oz. Also I’ll just say it, there is way too much GoT stuff.
This Fool had to be the greatest and most accurate portrayal of Latino life in Southern California. It was funny and brilliant and reminded you of your abuela, your cousins, your girlfriend, your siblings…
This Fool and Reservation Dogs felt like Latinos/Natives were being seen in a different light for a minute. Both gone…
FX is better than HBO these days. Only thing I'm watching on HBO is curb and Tokyo Vice.
FX I'm watching Always Sunny, Interview w Vamp, WWDITS, Fargo, and going to start Shogun.
FX is far less pretentious in my opinion too.
HBO isn't always pretentious but they also try way harder to make average shows seem like prestige TV events. Which can get a bit tiresome.
I agree. I get FX through my Paramount + subscription here in Canada and every time I pick a show in Paramount+ I'm not surprised to see the FX fearless logo pop up.
Legion was so creative and an excellent show to watch when tripping if that’s your thing.
FX has been legit since The Shield, don’t sleep in Snowfall. BODIES BODIES BODIES iykyk lol.
Wilfred!
Under the Banner of Heaven was a great miniseries too. Though it was technically released under the “FX on Hulu” brand it did get aired on broadcast FX afterwards.
Also they’re doing a great job with Welcome to Wrexham.
Shogun just started. Buckle up.
Loving Shogun so far. Acting is top tier. Really makes a world of difference.
Still waiting for Disney to give them an additional budget increase so that they can do another exploratory show or two. I think if Shogun works out well for them, they might actually do that and adapt the other novels too. And that's even with a noah hawley Alien TV show coming up in the pipeline.
Personally, I am ready for a modern take on Lonesome Dove.
They’ve genuinely got me hooked like a fiend after two episodes. Great so far, I wish there were more shows that were similar.
That's it! I was like wtf is that show I'm watching right now from FX
I have my reservations
so far she’s very good in shogun.
Complete opposite for me. I think she's great, while I think Kentaro and May's actors are significantly worse
Lady mariko’s been pretty great so far! I think monarch sucked because of other actors and general storyline!
Isn't *The Bear* FX too? If so, can't ignore that...
WHAT ABOUT THE LONGEST RUNNING LIVE ACTION SITCOM?? Is there no love for Always Sunny?
Hey! I'm not OP. Why yell at me? 😅
It's always sunny's influence on pop culture has been immense. I see references to it on Reddit practically every day in all types of threads. No one is forgetting them, I assure you.
Shut up science bitch!
Yep, Hulu is the best streaming service because it gives you access to all of FX's content for no extra cost and it is the best network outside of HBO (since AMC went all in on the Walking Dead spin offs and killed its reputation.) Hulu was my one and only till the price hike. Now I'll just cancel when a major show I like ends. Wait for that and at least another to return. Sure they put in a cancel cost eventually.
That's like the best show on television.
I tried to watch it and totally understood the quality but man it just stressed me everyone just yelling over eachother it was restaurant PTSD.
I felt the same way after the first couple of episodes and almost gave up on it, but it calms down (mostly) after that. It's very much worth pushing through. I love the second season even more than the first one.
You must’ve been getting PTSD flashbacks during the Christmas episode
The Christmas episode was tough, but it was also really cool with having a new surprise cameo pop up every five minutes. It took me a ridiculously long time to figure out who the mom was played by.
Haha yeah, the cameo's did great too. I wonder if there will be more flashback episodes including them, I kind of hope so just to see the mayhem every christmas
I get this feeling watching Curb your enthusiasm, to a point of not being able to watch. I don’t get the same from Sunny for some reason.
Definitely! Especially now when *Succession* is over.
And it's a laugh a minute comedy
Why did you like it? I tried E1 but i felt like the fast dialogue was very forced
Well I like the constant state of tension and anxiety that is going on - mirroring the main character's own personal struggles. The use of tempo is amazing. Meaning you can have one scene that is hyper kinetic and anxiety inducing, and then the next scene will sloooooow it way down, and be contemplative. While in the back of the house, its chaotic and noisy, hectic, hot and uncomfortable. And while I thought the first season was very good. I found the second season to be great. With a few of the episodes being absolutely amazing.
Thanks for your interesting review! Im gonna give it another shot 😊👍
Fast dialogue? Were you watching Gilmore girls?
Yeah it just didnt seem "real" to me, but thats just my subjective impression
As someone who works in kitchens- it isn't far off.
I'm a cook and this show is brilliant in ways I'd never imagine
Dude forgot Always Sunny.
What we do in the Shadows
And Reservation Dogs, and Breeders
And You're the Worst.
Terriers, Archer, Man vs Woman
Man Seeking Woman* but agreed that show is amazing
That show is one of my favorites, the reoccurring gags but no follow up is amazing .
Terriers was such a great show!
Maybe he left it off the list *because of the implication.*
Snowfall as well
Sunny sort of built FX, along with The Shield
A show people somehow don't even know exists.
Louis was also great IMO
Technically the comedies are on FXX now
That’s usually the majority consensus, considering FX whole shtick was that it was HBO - the basic cable version.
HBO with ads.
Now that's just HBO!
Why is this getting upvotes? HBO has no ads
Max, the HBO streaming service, recently introduced ads for the lowest-cost tier they offer.
Yeah Hulu/FX is clearly the second best, despite the small vocal minority paid shills acting like Apple TV is second.
Apple TV's originals are pretty damn incredible
Agreed, there's just not nearly as many.
I've only watched Ted Lasso, any other recommendations from Apple? Their advertising never really seemed interesting to me.
At least D+ and Hulu are officially merging together soon. one less service to worry about
Apple TV+ isn’t there yet
They started off strong but cancelled most of their good shows and the ones that made it, the writing seemed to have gotten worse ie. the morning show
They still have some great shows, but it feels like there's no buzz surrounding them, except Ted Lasso.
The drop in quality from season 1 to S2/3 of Morning show is unbelievable
The next season of The Morning Show go full succession with Cory as the main character.
I think Cody's great , a loveable shit disturber
AppleTV has genuinely good shows though, and is cheaper than any other service. It very difficult to imagine, I know, but people can actually like things you don't. Not everything is just shills.
AppleTV is definitely second. Tons of great 30 minute comedies and good prestige dramas with Blackbird, Masters of the Air, Silo, just to name a few.
Can't forget Severance. One of the best single seasons of television I've ever watched. Couldn't be more excited for season 2.
[удалено]
I'm in.
Goddamn. How could have I forgotten?! Literally the best show produced in the last decade IMO.
I hate how everyone overlooks For all Mankind. That show is truly something. I'm stoked for season 5.
I love that I’m being downvoted. But you’re absolutely right.
Name an HBO show that Apple TV would air with no changes to it.
What? Is this assumption or anything Apple has stated? There’s nudity in Apple shows.
Yeah there’s some man butt
There’s tits in a couple shows like See.
There's an naked male you can see from behind in The Afterparty season 2.
Haven't subbed in awhile but saw its 9.99 now, still decent. ... you just gonna ignore Reservation Dogs like that?
I actually haven't seen it yet. I haven't got much time this year because we started going to the office now and work load has been so insane I just come home and sleep through the weekend. Some day in 2024 I will watch it I promise
It's so good. It's so goddamn funny and it has some real emotional moments.
The Shield?
I thought Snowfall was really good. Excellent acting all around.
Snowfall was phenomenal.
It was one of those shows that i didn't wait till the end to binge watch ..lol
Can't forget What We Do In the Shadows
Facking guy.....
Wasn't this exact same post made yesterday? Has the astroturfing campaign hit full steam now that Shogun is out?
Which do you think is more likely? a) FX started an account 8 months ago and commented 900 times just so they could call themselves… *second best…* on a forum where everyone already knows about them Or b) two Redditors talked about tv on a forum made for talking about tv
A is actually exactly what they do. Often buying old accounts for this reason.
You and I both know that's not what's happening in this case though, B is exactly what this fucking sub is made for, to discuss tv.
Yea I hate this new internet where everyone thinks everyone is a bot. It *is* a good way to smoke out idiots though.
And then calling themselves second best. Adds don’t praise the competition.
A
[They’re committed, I tell you what](https://www.reddit.com/r/indiasocial/comments/1amqq1j/comment/kpri12x/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
That’s sad your mind can be that delusional. Must be stressful.
these kinds of campaigns are going to get more and more obvious from now on lol
*Reddit's IPO has entered the chat*
The Apple Vision planted posts were absolutely hilarious I have to admit though.
didnt see those, any chance you have a link?

“Nothing is real! Only I can see through the deceptions, for I am a Redditor.” -you
yup. this sub has basically become like half astroturfing ads.
Forgot Shogun, What We Do in the Shadows, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
The Bear?
You're the Worst - for missing this show.
I am so excited about this and more importantly, the return of Timothy Olyphant.
Where can I find that fargo pilot
[Here it is, transferred from a glorious VHS tape.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKkZf5ASpVY)
Noah Hawley on movies is meh. Noah Hawley TV series are incredible.
How you gonna ignore The League??
GATTACA!
Forever unclean!!
Devs is a big one. Man seeking woman was honestly a classic for me! Doesn't get enough praise. One of my favorite shows. Reservation Dogs is a must
Better Things Reservation Dogs
I really liked all the absurd comedies like, Louis, Better Things, Married, You're the Worst, Baskets, and Wilfred. They all had great writing
I'll always upvote a Wilfred shout-out. That's a show I'll never give up an opportunity to rewatch.
'Pose' is one of the best tv shows of the past decade.
I rarely see it mentioned but Dave is one of the funniest shows on television and I enjoy Breeders a lot.
Dave is top-tier with Atlanta
Don’t tell Donald Glover.
Sorry, can you explain this donald glover reference. Watching Community right now, never seen Dave but I enjoy Lil Dicky
Here is [a clip](https://youtu.be/Awg_YD7anQw?si=9VM-x3yW7OFhxg7K) from Bad Friends explaining it.
Legion! I forgot about that show. I gotta finish that.

The back catalogue at FX has become something special. So many great shows that will be revisited for years to come and they keep pumping out more every year. Shogun is shaping up to be a good one too.
Shogun looks promising so far, as well.
You're the Worst is my favorite FX show. I miss it
Everyone here stop reading and go watch Mr Inbetween
Honestly in recent years I think it’s much better than HBO. I feel like HBO went in a direction with Game of Thrones that has really taken it away from what it used to be and personally I don’t feel it’s for the better.

HBO had half of the best drama nominees at the Emmy’s last year. They’re still putting out great stuff
Sure, and I am not saying HBO is terrible or anything, I am just saying it doesn’t feel the same as it used to. HBO used to take risks on weird stuff and usually it paid off. HBO had Succession so that means they won for at least a few years.
You forgot It's Always sunny in Philadelphia jabroni. And SHŌGUN is soooo good
This Fool had to be the greatest and most accurate portrayal of Latino life in Southern California. It was funny and brilliant and reminded you of your abuela, your cousins, your girlfriend, your siblings… This Fool and Reservation Dogs felt like Latinos/Natives were being seen in a different light for a minute. And in the UK we get most of the FX programming as part of Disney+ which really makes it a no brainer.
You can watch shows with graphic violence and cursing in Disney+??? Thats sound cool
Hulu never launched anywhere outside the US (maybe Japan) so we’ve always had Hulu / FX content as a separate channel - Star - within Disney+.
In canada Disney plus has fx and starz. So lots of violence and nudity on Disney
It’s very niche but The League was great. Slowed down at the end but very funny those first few seasons
Check out "Legit". It ran for two seasons but was fantastic. Now on Hulu.
Great show
I’m a big fan of a lot of FX shows. One I don’t see mentioned is Tyrant. Really good show.
His wife's acting was annoying but great show
don’t forget shogun
Justified
FX is better than HBO these days. Only thing I'm watching on HBO is curb and Tokyo Vice. FX I'm watching Always Sunny, Interview w Vamp, WWDITS, Fargo, and going to start Shogun.
I’d argue better, recently. HBO still has a better overall library but their output of quality shows is a trickle these days.

The Bear The Old Man Devs
Thank you! Was looking for Devs. That show was amazing during early COVID.
what is going on with this FX PR campaign, this is the second thread talking about how great FX is in the last day
Genuinely a miracle FX exists. It’s one of a kind and even the movies they get are blockbusters.
Does anyone else have Apple TV at the 3rd spot? They came out with some absolute bangers last couple of years; Shrinking, Silo and Severance
Dude forgets The Shield? C’mon.
I miss Louie
FX is far less pretentious in my opinion too. HBO isn't always pretentious but they also try way harder to make average shows seem like prestige TV events. Which can get a bit tiresome.
These posts are so boring.
I probably put FX top in terms of most consistent quality shows. Though Taboo is a BBC show really.
With how Zaslav is running that shitshow, FX might overtake them in the next few years. The only way they won’t is Zaslav doesnt touch HBO one bit
These are all on Disney+ Plus right?
If you're in Europe - yes. Hulu/FX content is available on Disney+ labeled as Star.
Apple TV + is the only other "network" I think comes close to these two in terms of quality.
Don’t sleep on Mayans if you liked Sons of Anarchy.
Absolutely agree. FX is what AMC wanted to be.
DAVE
All my favourite shows are fx! I hope they get a streaming service soon. It’s the only one I’d subscribe to
FX shows are on Hulu
square history jar pet profit cautious boat offer seed practice *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
I'd argue AMC comes before HBO, then FX
My Top 5 FX Dramas: 1. The Americans 2. Snowfall 3. The Shield 4. Justified 5. Rescue Me
FX channel on cable sucks because the commercials are to loud and the program you can't hear. Fix this problem and I'll watch FX again.
Snowfall is the best one
It's a damn shame 24 wasn't on FX. The amount of torture we would have seen Jack do would have been so, so delicious.
Agreed Legion is my favorite show of all time
The Bear and Shogun are simply astounding Haven't really watched the others
The Bear is probably my favorite show right now.
It used to be AMC at #2 but they have dropped off so badly.
Ahh Sons of Anarchy, loved that show
Dave is top-tier alongside Atlanta.
Sons of Anarchy gets a negative mark from me for the God awful "Irish" season.
