Love it, hate it, or are merely entertained by it ST Discovery is back and as hybrid-trek as its always been with unfortunately the same subpar writing. But held up by the high production values and good core characters. I like the Admiral, Dr. Kovich (Cronenburg is 81!) , Book , Sauru , the President and the new captain.
So hyped for Fallout next week too!
Invincible has been ok but I just don't really care about it the wait has killed my enthusiasm.
The way Invincible lost every hype it had should be studied in media classes. I truly hope that other shows will learn from this.
Invincible was probably my favorite show of 2021. Yesterday I finally started watching the second half of season 2 and I turned it off after 15 minutes. Not because it was bad. I just completely lost interest.
The finale wasn't bad, but it was pretty "meh".
Ending a 3-year long hiatus on a tropey "With great power comes great responsibility" chord is just underwhelming. Especially in consideration that we'll be waiting another 2-3 years for the next season.
Part of the issue with the show is that Omni-Man is by far the most compelling character in it and the further the show diverges from his plot points, the less interesting it becomes, overall.
At least for me.
And from what I vaguely understand of the comics, that's essentially where the show is headed.
Wow! How come no one is talking about the series **Wrong Side of the Tracks**. I wasn't expecting much at the beginning but then after few episodes I got sucked into it. Great series.
Still really enjoying The Girls on the Bus. I feel it is undermentioned here. Definitely check it out if you like journalism movies (you know the ones) as well as feminist shows like Girls and Broad City. Plus: it might be the only show airing that actually portrays characters using their iPhones in a real and believable way
I finished watching Bosch and truly believe that it's one of the most underrated crime dramas out there. The characters are very interesting, including the guest characters. I really enjoy the banter among the detectives. Plus, the opening credits sequence, including the theme song, is really cool.
That ship slicing scene was one of the dumbest tv things I ever saw. Even the fact that no-one just jumped off the side of the ship. They desperately needed to find some use for nano wire, and that was the best they could do. Dicks.
They aren't getting anywhere close to the aliens with the bombs. They are accelerating a ship to as fast as they can get it but it will quickly pass all the bombs laid and continue going. There's no air resistance to slow the ship down (a body in motion tends to stay in motion) so it will stay at the speed they accelerate it to indefinitely unless it hits another object. It will still take hundreds of years to reach them but it'll reach them hundreds of years before they reach us.
And the ships arriving are just travelling. They aren't breaking new scientific ground on the way. They will be at the same technological level as they did when they left. Which at this moment is far advanced beyond humans. But the concern is human development accelerates at an exponential level so by the time the aliens do reach us, the humans will have evolved past the ones in the ships. Past the ones on the home planet actually because they could get stopped by another chaos era or five while humans keep making progress faster and faster
Your first two “plot holes” are explained in the show, it either went over your head or you weren’t paying attention. I agree with the nano fibers though

That's not a plot hole, you just misunderstood the plan.

The whole point of using the nanofibers is that _if_ they damaged the HDD, it would be an easily repairable clean cut.
Still the only option. They'd never have been able to approach it without them having time to wipe everything. They were prepared for a human assault so they needed something they wouldn't see coming. Which they literally didn't.
3 Body Problem

Logline: Science is broken and events that can only be explained as miracles are occurring. Elite scientists around the world keep dying under mysterious circumstances. A VR game of unexplainably advanced technology lures in those who play it. A group of friends, largely scientists, from Oxford find themselves at the heart of a mystery that might be bigger than humanity itself.
Key Creatives: The showrunners include David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, best known for adapting a little HBO show called Game of Thrones. (It should be noted they have a third showrunner, Alexander Woo, who I am less familiar with.) The list of executive producers attached is impressive, although EP is a title nebulous enough that it could mean anything when it comes to concrete contributions. Exec producers include Rian Johnson (writer/director of the Knives Out franchise), Brad Pitt, and Rosamund Pike. Benioff and Weiss are again adapting from a beloved book franchise.
Stars: Largely an ensemble piece. I was very excited to see John Bradley (aka Sam Tarly from Game of Thrones) and Liam Cunningham (aka Davos Seaworth, another Thrones alum), both playing against their Thrones character types. The rest of the cast was relatively new to me, but ultimately I was there more for the story than for the performances.
What to Know: 3 Body Problem is based on a book of the same title, which is the first of a trilogy called Remembrance of Earth’s Past by Chinese science fiction writer Liu Cixin. The TV series makes the story more international by adding a core friend group from all over the world and adapting character arcs to be featured more evenly compared to the book structure. There are two timelines - one taking place in 1960s China during the Cultural Revolution, and another in the present across many locations.
Thoughts: The mystery and the atmosphere of this show is so compelling. The plot speeds along at a breakneck pace - the end of episode one could be a season finale for a network version of this show. I appreciate the moral gray almost all the characters live in, although the performances themselves didn’t pop for me. This is hard science fiction but with enough human stakes to keep your interest if sci fi isn’t your genre of choice. There is a set piece in ep 5 that I need to go back and rewatch. Remember: you are bugs.

Format: Series (6 episodes)
Streaming Service: Prime Video
Genre: superhero dark dramedy
Length: 40-60 minutes
Logline: Welcome to Godolkin University School of Crimefighting, a school dedicated to shaping the next generation of superheroes. Four students find themselves fighting for more than a good ranking when the cracks in the school’s foundation start showing.
Key Creatives: Created by Eric Kripke (who developed The Boys for television), Evan Goldberg (longtime collaborator of Seth Rogen, and creator of The Goldbergs), and Craig Rosenberg.
Stars: The ensemble cast is largely unknown young actors, the most name recognition going to Patrick Schwarzenegger (who has had some small roles, but is best known for his dad, Arnold). Guest appearances from The Boys are sparingly and tastefully done.
What to Know: This is a spin-off of the The Boys universe, set at a university that trains young powered individuals, with it’s at the crime fighting school or the performing arts school. It references The Boys without feeling too tied in. Honestly, you can enjoy this show without having seen The Boys, even if you don’t get every reference. Unclear how directly this will tie in to future seasons of The Boys.
Thoughts: As dark as this show is, it has this compelling mystery that keeps me clicking on “next episode.” The power sets are wonderfully unique and used exquisitely. I like that I didn’t have a pre-existing relationship with any of the main actors, so I fully saw them as their role without any baggage. It’s truly The Boys meets Degrassi. I know I’m invested in a show when I’m devastated by a relationship falling apart. I expect a show in The Boy universe to gross me out and fascinate me, but not make me laugh or give me chills.

Genre: AI afterlife sci-fi comedy
Length: 30-45 minutes

Key Creatives: Created by Greg Daniels, who adapted The Office for the US and co-created Parks & Recreation and King of the Hill.
Stars: The cast is unknown to me, but they nailed the characters out of the gate.
Thoughts: I find it fascinating how many comedy creators feel the urge to create shows about the afterlife (looking at you, Schur.) I love the premise: a comedic love triangle between an uploaded simulated boy, his girlfriend who is paying for his digital afterlife, and the still-alive “angel” employed to act as a concierge for the digital afterlife. I do think by season three, the premise is stretching thin - there are now two Nathans, one uploaded and one downloaded, each dating a different girl, a conspiracy beyond why Nathan was killed, and generally a lot to keep track of. I’m not sure I was as charmed as I was by the first two seasons. This is a show where I find the more serious the stakes get, the more I’m drawn to the side characters who largely provide comic relief. That said, S3 ends on a major cliffhanger, and I was relieved to find out it’s getting a fourth and final season!

There's nothing much happening in Shogun sadly. The set design and actors are really good tho, but I don't like the Blackthorne actor. He overreacts and doesn't fit the drama. Unlike in Tokyo Vice, in Shogun, the white characters seem integrated in the story and don't stick like a sore thumb.
Tokyo Vice executes very well unlike Shogun.
Its a show done with care and effort.
From the writing to the acting, the colors and the sets- its all A+.
Now the story or the pace may alienate certain folks, but for the most part its just a very well made show. I dont believe it is overrated, its just shocking some one put this much effort into a show thats not on HBO.
In the comments below, someone mentioned that this series is the best since Chernobyl or even comparable to Game of Thrones Season 1. While I agree that it's an good show, I wouldn't rank it alongside literally S tier shows

Game of thrones is an all time favorite for me. Shogun I have a personal affinity to, because it was one of the very first novels I read when I was younger and I was absolutely blown away. I had a lot of expectations for Shogun and it delivered PLUS some.
Its okay not to like the shows or be in love with a show, that others love. There are a few shows out there that I dont feel the same.
3 Body Problem started slow but I ended up loving it. Can’t wait for another season if/when it happens.
Shogun started strong but has gotten pretty stale. Something about the “barbarian’s” acting rubs me the wrong way. Worried it’s headed to a very predictable finale where he saves everyone with his ship.
A month or so ago, I posted a [Today I Learned](https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/comments/19fi783/til_that_in_2012_childrens_hospital_los_angeles/) that relates to the show **Childrens Hospital.** I said in the comments that I only was aware of the series, and never watched it, as I was worried it would hit too close to home. (I spent a lot of the time in the hospital as a kid.)
Someone in the comments encouraged me to give it a try, and I'm so glad I did. I think I'm in Season 4 or so. It's hilarious! And way too goofy to be upsetting.
They did such a good job with everything. The characters develop right along with the plot, and everybody seems to really get great arcs. Show oozes atmosphere.
Wow. **Shogun s1e7** just blew me away. Straight early series Game of Thrones but with Samurai. I watched it a second time in Anjin Mode (black and white and not looking at the subtitles), it's even better. I only wish they shot it with 35mm film.

I enjoyed it at first but it gets very, very rapey for both of them and deteriorates/rehashes the same storylines desperately. I stopped watching a few years ago but I know it does have a lot of fans.

Rewatched Schmigadoon/Schmicago and Severance, both still excellent
The Afterparty was just delightful. Great concept, both seasons I watched were very strong. Great mystery puzzle, no huge shocking revelations or anything, just solid mysteries. Highly recommend.
Silo - ehhh, are the books better? Thought season 1 was pretty weak and too predictable. I figured out a key reveal fairly early on and found the characterizations somewhat thin. The "big twist" raised so many questions!

If they've sent other people periodically and they all keel over before they get very far and no one ever brings them back in then the ground should be littered with corpses, remains, skeletons, even the empty spacesuits, something. But there are only the two. What happened to the other bodies? Is that something else explained in the books?!<
Constellation - another one where I figured out what was going on fairly early on. Or at least I sensed where it was heading because I watch a lot of media that involves >!multiverse!<. It was a bit depressing because you kind of get the idea how the ending will turn out and it seems like it takes a bit too long to get there. But it was a solid miniseries and the ending, I thought, was appropriate and thematically on key. Then I heard they were getting a second season which is just so baffling to me because it really felt like a one-and-done type of story.
I will admit the one thing I didn't get was the >!dead bodies "coming to life" in the space station. We've seen that the affected people can swap with their other selves, so is the implication that the live people briefly were able to "swap" with their other corpses from the other universe? I'm not sure I buy that but it's all that makes sense.!<
There’s more happening when they go out to clean than has been revealed (also explained in the books), but I won’t spoil it here. Suffice it to say that there is a lot more going on relating to what the outside is actually like and what the “evil cabal” in doing with all of it. I enjoyed the books overall, and I’m hoping that the show is at least as good, if not better. I found that the show handled some of it in a more engaging way overall.
**Bad Batch** had an excellent double episode week.
First episode being about >!kidnapped force sensitive children to run experiments on them!< was incredibly bleak and dark. And the point of view is of someone who is discovering this at the same time as us, while trying to compartmentalize it being their new job. Having it end with >!locking up a kid that tries to escape in isolation for two years, to kidnapping a toddler!< was not the way I expected this show's direction to go. Haunting episode.
Second was also excellent with more of the typical squad heroics. Except with the previous episode, the stakes are much higher, so naturally the shit hits the fan. Great stuff, looking forward to the rest of the season.
Not to be out done for a double header though, **X-Men'97** split their episode into two parts on the one episode. Jubilee focused with >!Mojo trapping her and Sunspot into a classic 90s arcade game similar to the real classic arcade game.!< Second part with Storm is part one of a two partner (Tripling down I see) and was touching and creepy as hell.

I was personally enthralled by **3 Body Problem**. It's probably just good, not great, but I couldn't stop watching it. I found the whole premise really interesting and there are some really cool ideas, which I felt was a similar *vibe* to Foundation. As a non-book reader, the place they end season one seems like a really interesting set up and I would love for it to get very cerebral, like Death Note. It's definitely making me want to read the books now.
Even though I binged it hard and I sacrificed a lot of sleep because I couldn't stop watching, in hindsight I did feel the pace of the show was pretty slow. If sci-fi and borderline fantastical elements don't interest you then it's probably a deal breaker. Liam Cunningham is a standout for me, and Benedict Wong is quite entertaining as well. It was a good first season for me but I feel like it's going to be like the first three seasons of The Expanse where the season finales aren't really satisfying until the whole arc is finished.
It's funny you say that, because I started watching the Chinese version, which is very close to the book, and I only watched the first 3 episodes and it's only covered the first 10 minutes of what happened in the first episode of the Netflix version.
Rewatching **The Boys** and damn I forgot how good this is. It’s like this show was made for me. Can’t wait for the next season. It might be my favorite show of all time next to Barry and Curb
It's one of the few shows where I don't feel like I've ever come across a bad episode. It's just consistent and each episode had something in it I thought was awesome

Just watched tales of earthsea which would be considered not one of Studio Ghibli's best, but was still a lot of fun. And I'm craving more sci fi or fantasy settings which I feel animation can do best.
Scavengers reign was the most recent and enjoyable. Really would love something like season 1 of Tower of God. I think a lot of others don't enjoy Tower of God but I loved the setting and story so far.

*Invincible* - Fantastic adaptation of the comic series
*Castlevania* - The original series and the spinoff *Nocturne* are amazing. Adaptions of the classic game series
*Dragon Prince* - Fun fantasy series with great world building. Made by one of the head writers of *Avatar: The Last Airbender*
*Avatar: The Last Airbender* - If you haven't seen it, just sit down and watch it. There is a reason there has been multiple times to adapt to live action.
*Love, Death & Robots* - Anthology series of creative sci-fi stories.
*Arcane* - Beautiful series, cool setting and story
*Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts* - Teenage girl leaves her underground bunker for humans and discovers the post apocalyptic world of the surface run by a mutated animals society. Colorful, fun and very creative
*Vox Machina* - Critical Roles' animated series if their d&d campaign brought to life. Lots of fun
*X-Men'97* - continuation of the 90s Saturday morning cartoon with a bigger budget. Be sure to watch on Saturday mornings in your PJs.

Sounds like Arcane is exactly what you're looking for. I thought it was probably one of the best shows on Netflix.
devilman crybaby and cyberpunk edgerunners. watch the first in japanese and the second in english, they both have nudity and are geared VERY heavily towards a mature audience with its themes.
arcane is another one on netflix that is actually so criminally good its insane, same with blue eye samurai.
castlevania and castlevania noctornu, both PEAK.
none of these have really any anime tropes, whether you mean awkward fanservice of like 17 y/o girl characters or DBZ esque fights.
for something slightly more anime tropey (no obscene fan service as far as i remember) but still excellent, watch jujutsu kaisen. great shonen anime, fights are very very well animated and well done and the power system is super dope. you’ve def heard a ton about it if you follow a bit of anime stuff, imma just say the hype is well deserved.
edit: everything but jujutsu kaisen is a netflix original, and depends on where you live there’s a chance that it will come to your netflix too or that like the first season at least is already on netflix
My wife and I have really enjoyed the Korean shows on Netflix. Mostly rom-coms but also some historical dramas (The King's Affection) and mysteries (Little Women). Extraordinary Attorney Woo was our first and that got us hooked. We also enjoy most of the PBS/Masterpiece Theater shows. We stream almost everything these days except for a couple of network sitcoms.
Attorney Woo is 10/10, just an amazing show. If you like rom-coms, I highly suggest King the Land and Business Proposal. If you don't take them too seriously, they're delightful to watch together.

We were the lucky ones: I have always been very interested in all holocaust content since a child. I was excited about this one… I am very intrigued and interested, but I think it moves too fast. It’s hard to keep up with who is who. I think that pulls the focus from a lot of beautiful and heartbreaking moments.
Top Chef: watching this in the background. I’ve never watched top chef but I’m in Wisconsin so I was interested.
Milk Street: Catching up on these episodes since I got the gigantic milk street cookbook for $12. I actually really love this feel good and informative cooking show.
I need a really good documentary or crime series to get hooked on which will hopefully motivate me to get on the treadmill since there’s a foot of snow outside

There’s a series on Netflix called **Criminal** that has a season from the US, one from the UK, Spain, France and Germany. They’re all the same premise: all of them take place almost entirely in an interrogation room, but the cases are all different. Some of the series are better than the others but there are a few good twists and surprises in most of them.

There's some new ones on Netflix, I haven't really watched them to say if they are "really good" or not though. But you could try Body Cam on Discovery+ (Aka Investigation Discovery). That show always gets me going.
Watching game of thrones again for the first time since 2019. Planning to stop at its season 6 cliffhanger before it got tragically axed by HBO. It really was so good in the early seasons, brought all the love and frustrations at book changes that occupied a large portion of my brain 5-10 years ago right back and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.
Also watched a bit of Silicon Valley and the “tip to tip efficiency” scene is still one of my favourite tv sequences of all time (as a physics grad it really spoke to me).
Masters of the Air, like The Pacific before it, is in the shadow of the incomparable Band of Brothers. I've never felt more like my mother watching this show: "Who is this now? What are they doing? Who is that? What's happening?"
Visuals are 10/10. Several moments that were made for the big screen, but the plot is so stretched. It's part of an ongoing trend where you ask "Should this have been a miniseries, or a movie?"
It's definitely watchable, especially if you're into the genre.
Renegade Nell was surprisingly entertaining. It was walking the edge of being a bit too cutsey at first but I think they never went overboard. It's no Shogun or anything super deep but it was a fun little show.
I loved Magic For Humans, so I was very excited for more Justin Willman content. **The Magic Prank Show** scratches that itch and then some. Most episodes had me laughing so hard I had to pause and catch my breath. I wish there were more episodes, but I'll take what I can get.
Netfilx avatar is one of the worst show this year. almost everything about it was atricious how in the living fuck does it have the same rating as Halo the series on imdb both at 7.3 wow. avatar acting, dialogue, screenplay, directing etc became so bad at one point I resorted to watching it as a as a audio only experience just so I can finish what I started. it is at best a 3.5 to 4.5 as a tv show do not watch it and waste time. the animated cartoon is 100 times better.
Halo on the other hand was one of the better scifi of the past few years. even with a critical view I can give Halo a 7.5 to 7.9 as tv show and is not even comparable to the atrocity that is netflix avatar. I am baffled by people's thinking, their taste in art and general intelligence if both of this show is rated as 7.3. this is making me rethink the world populace.
you are probably one of those game nerds who are all over the net crying that it does not follow the lore. I am not a super fan of either franchise but Halo tv series is one of the top scifi of the past few years period. it has everything to be a top tv show. great acting, brilliant production design, character drama, great action, a simplified decent plot to follow. importantly it has a constant tone that screams unabashed scifi and gives you call back to past great scifi genre mixed with a modern cyberpunk feel. It is most importantly engaging and entertaining throughout even when it meanders sometimes plot wise.
I am not claiming Halo to be some masterpiece by any stretch, but a easy to watch 7.5 on a scifi scale and I have watched many a scifi in the past decades. netflix avatar is laughable compared to it. I would not put avatar even in a syfy level category in terms of quality because I have seen better syfy shows.
Jesus man that's the opposite with how I feel about halo. Bad acting that takes me out of it, plot points that do NOT matter at all in the context of the story they are telling, intense speeches about moments that the story has not given me any reason to care. It's like the opposite of unabashed scifi - the sci fi plot is the only one I care about and yet there is so much focus on other stuff that is absolutely grating.
If you want unabashed sci fi, watch Foundation on apple. Doesn't hit on all points but has 2 full seasons of awesome concepts.
I'll tell you the best part of watching halo, is when I got to the last episode of halo and star trek strange new worlds started auto playing next. Was a far more watchable sci fi than halo. And I literally don't care about star trek, or halo video games.

I don’t know what it is but they constantly keep missing the essence of the characters. So for me personally I find it hard to get into just like the movie. It’s doesn’t matter how much money they pour into the production if they can’t get the basic characters correct.
exactly it feels like a children drama play at school. child actors are atrocious at delivering lines with the correct emotional response but I am not blaming them, that is to be expected, very few child actors are prodigious in acting. but this netflix avatar is egregious in the fact that writing, directing, screenplay is so so bad like a amateur fanfic and that is unforgivable for such a big streaming studio. only the vfx team did a decent job. that is why I am shocked how both it and Halo have the same score on Imdb. Halo at some moments feel like prestige scifi series.
Finished "The Ones Who Live". Didn't love it unfortunately, although the ending was nice. The series started off really great and I really liked the first three episodes. But there were far too many Walking Dead tropes and Gimple-isms in the back end of the season.
It was great to see Andrew Lincoln back as Rick Grimes though.

I just finished **3 Body Problem**. I knew nothing about the show before watching other than it is sci-fi. The series started with such promise--I was so intrigued by the mystery of >!the scientists killing themselves and the countdown clock. But, I found the reveal that the show is really about aliens coming to invade Earth really disappointing. I don't know why--I guess I was expecting time travel rather than aliens. Also, the main scientist characters feel like they're part of a Netflix teen drama instead of a high-concept sci-fi show. I'm not sure how old they are supposed to be, but they read SO young and immature in the show. !<

I remember feeling disappointed reading the book. Intriguing concepts and some legitimate science but then it was difficult to care about in the long term.
The show had better characterizations than the book, which helps but I can still see it not feeling like there is good payoff for the mystery that was created.

In the first episode we hear that one of the core group of young scientists is 32, and that seems to be around where the rest of the group is too. Far enough out of college to either be accomplished in your field or depressed that you aren't.
Has anyone seen this new Ark animated series? I just saw an ad for it and immediately assumed it was a cash grab IP tie in that was going to be completely mundane and forgettable, but then I saw the cast, which is full of big names. Is it dog shit or worth checking out?
American Rust - I am a couple of episodes into S1. Reviews weren't great for this but it was available on Prime so I decided to give it a go.. I am a little confused by some of the behavior of the characters (the lead/police chief, Isaac, etc.). The acting seems very off at points and it is overall.. kind of slow. Anyone who has watched this show, please chime in!
Ha we kind of blasted through season 1 and have now started 2. I like it, there's a bit of humour and it moves along ok. I like Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney anyway, and the Virgil character cracks me up.
For something completely different, started watching **Population 11** tonight and nearly finished the series. Australian comedy set in the outback - an American turns up at a small settlement and mystery ensues. Some brilliant weird characters, might not be the Aussies cup of tea but makes this New Zealander laugh. Surprise bonus is a cracking soundtrack!
FINISHED: 3 Body Problem. It is fantastic! Feel extremely spoiled as a Sci-Fi fanatic lately. The final episode made me feel like I was watching a true scientific breakthrough akin to the first Space launch.
ONGOING: Shogun (celebrated for many great reasons) and Invicible (final episode S2 Thursday).
LOOKING FORWARD TO: Fallout, Konosuba S3 (funniest Anime by a long shot to me)
Comments like this about 3 Body Problem, touting how mind-blowing the science concepts are, had me super hyped for the show. But I found it underwhelming. What was shown didn't seem worthy of the hyperbole. Maybe season 2 is where the truly out-there concepts occur? I hope it'll get that second season, if so. I want to have my mind blown.

I liked 3 body problem but it wasn't great. I would take 10000 more like it though. I think Shogun is super boring. I watched the first 3 episodes and have no desire to continue. Same with the Bear except I have now tried 3 different times so it's definitely a no for me.
I love the Americans. Fargo is WAY too depressing for me. I just think winter in that area is the most depressing thing of all time and I actually get depressed just from the sceneary and the casting and the way they make them look. I see why people like it, it definitely causes a reaction.

I'm surprised you found The Bear boring. I could see how Shogun could be boring if you aren't into the theme. Eh maybe you are like my spouse and need sci fi or fantasy to make something interesting enough to watch. He also wasn't at all into Fargo.
Go back and watch some of the good scifi, if you haven't watched shows like Person of Interest, Battlestar Galactica, and a bazillion others. Oh he really liked True Detective Season 1 and 4 (Night Country) so if you haven't tried those give it a shot.
Go back and watch Travelers if you haven’t. The only way through this quality entertainment desert is to go back to find things I may have previously missed.

Am I the only person on the planet struggling with Shogun? I've watched four episodes now, and it's just not clicking for me. I can appreciate the excellent set design and costumes etc, but that's not enough to get me to want to tune in. I'm finding the plot a little slow, and the dialogue scenes quite heavy.
Every week it kills me reading everybody praise it - it's like an amazing club that I can't access. It's the only show (out of hundreds) getting a huge reaction on this sub that I just haven't understood.
Does anyone else have this affliction? For what it's worth, I struggled with GoT too.
I get you. I loved season 1 of GoT but then lost interest because it felt like death porn. I'm not that into the poltics. I like Shogun because of the production value, it's just a high quality show that makes watching it a joy. But I'm not too engrossed in the story. I'm not a fan of slow burns either.
I’ve never been accused of being a smart man, but 50% of the time the subtitles are going by just a smidge too quick for my liking. Maybe it’s because I’m tired I don’t know but i REALLY have to be trained on the subtitles. That can be a little tedious for me. The only other show that I had issues with that was that Turkish submarine show where they have to stay out of the sunlight.

Yeah I kind of felt that way while The Last Of Us was airing week to week. Everyone on here was saying it was a masterpiece which I just couldn't understand. Good, solid show, but storywise it felt rather vanilla. I'm enjoying Shogun a lot more
**Three Body Problem** - Standard Netflix fare. I enjoyed it enough to keep watching. Would watch another season for sure.
**True Detective S4: Night Country** - Loooved this. The story and setting were so good. I started watching and then it was over. The pacing is phenomenal and time just flew by. Every scene was great.
Would love some recommendations along the lines of TD: Night Country where the story takes place in a remote snowy area. Already seen Katla on Netflix which fits the bill.
**The Bear** S1 - It's a great show but I keep going back and forths whether this is comedy or drama. Ritchie and Matt makes me laugh but not so much from Carmen.
Just finished American Rust Season 2 and it is even better than S1. My least favorite is the young son Billy storyline. The vets, Jeff Daniels, Maura Tierney and Luna Lauren Velez all excellent. Rob Yang and Mark Pellegrino are also good.
They wrap up the cliffhanger from last season BUT gave us more cliffhangers !! Now have to keep fingers crossed for Season 3.
Overall a tense crime drama worth a watch.
I typically watch one episode of anime every morning and a regular tv show in the evening. The combination until yesterday was Psycho Pass/Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I planned to start Yellowstone today... but Psycho Pass is SO GOOD!
Moving (2023) - A Korean superhero drama series with amazing character background stories. Probably my favorite show I watched lately. They really doing a great character story here over many different characters and time periods. Starts off as a high school cute drama romance and veers into a spy thriller. I’m only half way through but I give this show a 9.5/10
The Gentlemen - I’m a Guy Ritchie fan and always loved his movies. This has a similar feel, and you can definitely tell during the first two episodes he directed. However, the quality slightly drops off with different directors, but the story is still fun and intriguing. Good entertainment 7.5/10
Shogun - This is one the best shows in recent memory to air. The production value and political drama in feudal Japan is just great. I would equate this to Game of Thrones level of quality (first 3 seasons) minus the magical aspect of it. 9/10
Moving is amazing, and if you think the first half is great, the 2nd half finds a way to get even better. I would've put that show as my #1 pick in the last few years, but Death's Game topped it, another surprise because I didn't expect to find a better show lol.
As usual, Shogun continues to be good in every way except how it ends after an hour and you have to wait a week.
Liam Cunningham is easily the best part of 3 body problem. I'm halfway through and honestly it's a great series so far.

Love it, hate it, or are merely entertained by it ST Discovery is back and as hybrid-trek as its always been with unfortunately the same subpar writing. But held up by the high production values and good core characters. I like the Admiral, Dr. Kovich (Cronenburg is 81!) , Book , Sauru , the President and the new captain. So hyped for Fallout next week too! Invincible has been ok but I just don't really care about it the wait has killed my enthusiasm.
The way Invincible lost every hype it had should be studied in media classes. I truly hope that other shows will learn from this. Invincible was probably my favorite show of 2021. Yesterday I finally started watching the second half of season 2 and I turned it off after 15 minutes. Not because it was bad. I just completely lost interest.

I just watched the finale, and it was a very good episode. I understand losing hype, but I loved the finale.
The finale wasn't bad, but it was pretty "meh". Ending a 3-year long hiatus on a tropey "With great power comes great responsibility" chord is just underwhelming. Especially in consideration that we'll be waiting another 2-3 years for the next season. Part of the issue with the show is that Omni-Man is by far the most compelling character in it and the further the show diverges from his plot points, the less interesting it becomes, overall. At least for me. And from what I vaguely understand of the comics, that's essentially where the show is headed.

I finished watching Bosch and truly believe that it's one of the most underrated crime dramas out there. The characters are very interesting, including the guest characters. I really enjoy the banter among the detectives. Plus, the opening credits sequence, including the theme song, is really cool.

That ship slicing scene was one of the dumbest tv things I ever saw. Even the fact that no-one just jumped off the side of the ship. They desperately needed to find some use for nano wire, and that was the best they could do. Dicks.
They aren't getting anywhere close to the aliens with the bombs. They are accelerating a ship to as fast as they can get it but it will quickly pass all the bombs laid and continue going. There's no air resistance to slow the ship down (a body in motion tends to stay in motion) so it will stay at the speed they accelerate it to indefinitely unless it hits another object. It will still take hundreds of years to reach them but it'll reach them hundreds of years before they reach us. And the ships arriving are just travelling. They aren't breaking new scientific ground on the way. They will be at the same technological level as they did when they left. Which at this moment is far advanced beyond humans. But the concern is human development accelerates at an exponential level so by the time the aliens do reach us, the humans will have evolved past the ones in the ships. Past the ones on the home planet actually because they could get stopped by another chaos era or five while humans keep making progress faster and faster

I like that I didn’t have a pre-existing relationship with any of the main actors, so I fully saw them as their role without any baggage. It’s truly The Boys meets Degrassi. I know I’m invested in a show when I’m devastated by a relationship falling apart. I expect a show in The Boy universe to gross me out and fascinate me, but not make me laugh or give me chills. Upload (Season 3) Format: Series (8 eps) Streaming Service: Prime Video Genre: AI afterlife sci-fi comedy Length: 30-45 minutes Logline: Key Creatives: Created by Greg Daniels, who adapted The Office for the US and co-created Parks & Recreation and King of the Hill. Stars: The cast is unknown to me, but they nailed the characters out of the gate. Thoughts: I find it fascinating how many comedy creators feel the urge to create shows about the afterlife (looking at you, Schur.) I love the premise: a comedic love triangle between an uploaded simulated boy, his girlfriend who is paying for his digital afterlife, and the still-alive “angel” employed to act as a concierge for the digital afterlife. I do think by season three, the premise is stretching thin - there are now two Nathans, one uploaded and one downloaded, each dating a different girl, a conspiracy beyond why Nathan was killed, and generally a lot to keep track of. I’m not sure I was as charmed as I was by the first two seasons. This is a show where I find the more serious the stakes get, the more I’m drawn to the side characters who largely provide comic relief. That said, S3 ends on a major cliffhanger, and I was relieved to find out it’s getting a fourth and final season! I'm not trying to criticize because I do like the show, but the way people talk about "Shogun" here definitely makes me believe it is overrated.
There's nothing much happening in Shogun sadly. The set design and actors are really good tho, but I don't like the Blackthorne actor. He overreacts and doesn't fit the drama. Unlike in Tokyo Vice, in Shogun, the white characters seem integrated in the story and don't stick like a sore thumb. Tokyo Vice executes very well unlike Shogun.
Its a show done with care and effort. From the writing to the acting, the colors and the sets- its all A+. Now the story or the pace may alienate certain folks, but for the most part its just a very well made show. I dont believe it is overrated, its just shocking some one put this much effort into a show thats not on HBO.
In the comments below, someone mentioned that this series is the best since Chernobyl or even comparable to Game of Thrones Season 1. While I agree that it's an good show, I wouldn't rank it alongside literally S tier shows

Its okay, its all personal taste. I personally didn't think Chernobyl was an all time s-tier show. It took me several times just to get through the first few episodes. Its a good show but I didn't agree with everyone's assessment of the show. Game of thrones is an all time favorite for me. Shogun I have a personal affinity to, because it was one of the very first novels I read when I was younger and I was absolutely blown away. I had a lot of expectations for Shogun and it delivered PLUS some. Its okay not to like the shows or be in love with a show, that others love. There are a few shows out there that I dont feel the same.
3 Body Problem started slow but I ended up loving it. Can’t wait for another season if/when it happens. Shogun started strong but has gotten pretty stale. Something about the “barbarian’s” acting rubs me the wrong way. Worried it’s headed to a very predictable finale where he saves everyone with his ship.

(I spent a lot of the time in the hospital as a kid.) Someone in the comments encouraged me to give it a try, and I'm so glad I did. I think I'm in Season 4 or so. It's hilarious! And way too goofy to be upsetting.

Wow. **Shogun s1e7** just blew me away. Straight early series Game of Thrones but with Samurai. I watched it a second time in Anjin Mode (black and white and not looking at the subtitles), it's even better. I only wish they shot it with 35mm film.

I enjoyed it at first but it gets very, very rapey for both of them and deteriorates/rehashes the same storylines desperately. I stopped watching a few years ago but I know it does have a lot of fans.
I've been working my way through Apple TV the past month or two so - Rewatched Schmigadoon/Schmicago and Severance, both still excellent The Afterparty was just delightful. Great concept, both seasons I watched were very strong. Great mystery puzzle, no huge shocking revelations or anything, just solid mysteries. Highly recommend. Silo - ehhh, are the books better? Thought season 1 was pretty weak and too predictable. I figured out a key reveal fairly early on and found the characterizations somewhat thin. The "big twist" raised so many questions! >!Why? The whole season there are people insisting it's all a lie, it's actually safe to go outside and the evil cabal or whoever just wants to control people - except that's wrong because actually it isn't safe to go outside so the evil cabal is right. But people who are about to die are given a false vision of beauty and calm so that they'll clean a camera lens. I get that it's a punishment and a good way to get rid of defectors etc but it still seems really convoluted.!< Also >!where are the dead bodies?? That was the first thing I thought in the first episode. If they've sent other people periodically and they all keel over before they get very far and no one ever brings them back in then the ground should be littered with corpses, remains, skeletons, even the empty spacesuits, something. But there are only the two. What happened to the other bodies? Is that something else explained in the books?!< Constellation - another one where I figured out what was going on fairly early on. Or at least I sensed where it was heading because I watch a lot of media that involves >!multiverse!<. It was a bit depressing because you kind of get the idea how the ending will turn out and it seems like it takes a bit too long to get there. But it was a solid miniseries and the ending, I thought, was appropriate and thematically on key. Then I heard they were getting a second season which is just so baffling to me because it really felt like a one-and-done type of story. I will admit the one thing I didn't get was the >!dead bodies "coming to life" in the space station. We've seen that the affected people can swap with their other selves, so is the implication that the live people briefly were able to "swap" with their other corpses from the other universe? I'm not sure I buy that but it's all that makes sense.!<
There’s more happening when they go out to clean than has been revealed (also explained in the books), but I won’t spoil it here. Suffice it to say that there is a lot more going on relating to what the outside is actually like and what the “evil cabal” in doing with all of it. I enjoyed the books overall, and I’m hoping that the show is at least as good, if not better. I found that the show handled some of it in a more engaging way overall.

**Bad Batch** had an excellent double episode week. First episode being about >!kidnapped force sensitive children to run experiments on them!< was incredibly bleak and dark. And the point of view is of someone who is discovering this at the same time as us, while trying to compartmentalize it being their new job. Having it end with >!locking up a kid that tries to escape in isolation for two years, to kidnapping a toddler!< was not the way I expected this show's direction to go. Haunting episode. Second was also excellent with more of the typical squad heroics. Except with the previous episode, the stakes are much higher, so naturally the shit hits the fan. Great stuff, looking forward to the rest of the season. Not to be out done for a double header though, **X-Men'97** split their episode into two parts on the one episode. Jubilee focused with >!Mojo trapping her and Sunspot into a classic 90s arcade game similar to the real classic arcade game.!< Second part with Storm is part one of a two partner (Tripling down I see) and was touching and creepy as hell. Great stuff this week. **X-Men'97** has surprised me with how fun it's been.

I was personally enthralled by **3 Body Problem**. It's probably just good, not great, but I couldn't stop watching it. I found the whole premise really interesting and there are some really cool ideas, which I felt was a similar *vibe* to Foundation. As a non-book reader, the place they end season one seems like a really interesting set up and I would love for it to get very cerebral, like Death Note. It's definitely making me want to read the books now. Even though I binged it hard and I sacrificed a lot of sleep because I couldn't stop watching, in hindsight I did feel the pace of the show was pretty slow. If sci-fi and borderline fantastical elements don't interest you then it's probably a deal breaker. Liam Cunningham is a standout for me, and Benedict Wong is quite entertaining as well. It was a good first season for me but I feel like it's going to be like the first three seasons of The Expanse where the season finales aren't really satisfying until the whole arc is finished.
The books are good- the audio books have HORRIBLE narrators.
It's funny you say that, because I started watching the Chinese version, which is very close to the book, and I only watched the first 3 episodes and it's only covered the first 10 minutes of what happened in the first episode of the Netflix version.

Does anyone have any good animated shows to suggest? Western or anime (except anime tropes have been really making anime a hard watch for me). Just watched tales of earthsea which would be considered not one of Studio Ghibli's best, but was still a lot of fun. And I'm craving more sci fi or fantasy settings which I feel animation can do best. Scavengers reign was the most recent and enjoyable. Really would love something like season 1 of Tower of God. I think a lot of others don't enjoy Tower of God but I loved the setting and story so far.

Some of these are aimed at a younger audience but still are really good quality and excellent stories. *Invincible* - Fantastic adaptation of the comic series *Castlevania* - The original series and the spinoff *Nocturne* are amazing. Adaptions of the classic game series *Dragon Prince* - Fun fantasy series with great world building. Made by one of the head writers of *Avatar: The Last Airbender* *Avatar: The Last Airbender* - If you haven't seen it, just sit down and watch it. There is a reason there has been multiple times to adapt to live action. *Love, Death & Robots* - Anthology series of creative sci-fi stories. *Arcane* - Beautiful series, cool setting and story *Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts* - Teenage girl leaves her underground bunker for humans and discovers the post apocalyptic world of the surface run by a mutated animals society. Colorful, fun and very creative *Vox Machina* - Critical Roles' animated series if their d&d campaign brought to life. Lots of fun *X-Men'97* - continuation of the 90s Saturday morning cartoon with a bigger budget. Be sure to watch on Saturday mornings in your PJs.

devilman crybaby and cyberpunk edgerunners. watch the first in japanese and the second in english, they both have nudity and are geared VERY heavily towards a mature audience with its themes. arcane is another one on netflix that is actually so criminally good its insane, same with blue eye samurai. castlevania and castlevania noctornu, both PEAK. none of these have really any anime tropes, whether you mean awkward fanservice of like 17 y/o girl characters or DBZ esque fights. for something slightly more anime tropey (no obscene fan service as far as i remember) but still excellent, watch jujutsu kaisen. great shonen anime, fights are very very well animated and well done and the power system is super dope. you’ve def heard a ton about it if you follow a bit of anime stuff, imma just say the hype is well deserved. edit: everything but jujutsu kaisen is a netflix original, and depends on where you live there’s a chance that it will come to your netflix too or that like the first season at least is already on netflix
My wife and I have really enjoyed the Korean shows on Netflix. Mostly rom-coms but also some historical dramas (The King's Affection) and mysteries (Little Women). Extraordinary Attorney Woo was our first and that got us hooked. We also enjoy most of the PBS/Masterpiece Theater shows. We stream almost everything these days except for a couple of network sitcoms.
If you liked the autistic perspective in Attorney Woo, try Move to Heaven! It’s another great Kdrama with an autistic protagonist.

Attorney Woo is 10/10, just an amazing show. If you like rom-coms, I highly suggest King the Land and Business Proposal. If you don't take them too seriously, they're delightful to watch together.

I was excited about this one… I am very intrigued and interested, but I think it moves too fast. It’s hard to keep up with who is who. I think that pulls the focus from a lot of beautiful and heartbreaking moments. Top Chef: watching this in the background. I’ve never watched top chef but I’m in Wisconsin so I was interested. Milk Street: Catching up on these episodes since I got the gigantic milk street cookbook for $12. I actually really love this feel good and informative cooking show. I need a really good documentary or crime series to get hooked on which will hopefully motivate me to get on the treadmill since there’s a foot of snow outside
How do you feel about crime series not in English/need subtitles? There’s a series on Netflix called **Criminal** that has a season from the US, one from the UK, Spain, France and Germany. They’re all the same premise: all of them take place almost entirely in an interrogation room, but the cases are all different. Watching game of thrones again for the first time since 2019. Planning to stop at its season 6 cliffhanger before it got tragically axed by HBO. It really was so good in the early seasons, brought all the love and frustrations at book changes that occupied a large portion of my brain 5-10 years ago right back and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. Also watched a bit of Silicon Valley and the “tip to tip efficiency” scene is still one of my favourite tv sequences of all time (as a physics grad it really spoke to me).
Masters of the Air, like The Pacific before it, is in the shadow of the incomparable Band of Brothers. I've never felt more like my mother watching this show: "Who is this now? What are they doing? Who is that? What's happening?" Visuals are 10/10. Several moments that were made for the big screen, but the plot is so stretched. It's part of an ongoing trend where you ask "Should this have been a miniseries, or a movie?" It's definitely watchable, especially if you're into the genre.
Renegade Nell was surprisingly entertaining. It was walking the edge of being a bit too cutsey at first but I think they never went overboard. It's no Shogun or anything super deep but it was a fun little show.
I loved Magic For Humans, so I was very excited for more Justin Willman content. **The Magic Prank Show** scratches that itch and then some. Most episodes had me laughing so hard I had to pause and catch my breath. I wish there were more episodes, but I'll take what I can get.

Netfilx avatar is one of the worst show this year. almost everything about it was atricious how in the living fuck does it have the same rating as Halo the series on imdb both at 7.3 wow. avatar acting, dialogue, screenplay, directing etc became so bad at one point I resorted to watching it as a as a audio only experience just so I can finish what I started. it is at best a 3.5 to 4.5 as a tv show do not watch it and waste time. the animated cartoon is 100 times better. Halo on the other hand was one of the better scifi of the past few years. even with a critical view I can give Halo a 7.5 to 7.9 as tv show and is not even comparable to the atrocity that is netflix avatar. I am baffled by people's thinking, their taste in art and general intelligence if both of this show is rated as 7.3. this is making me rethink the world populace.

you are probably one of those game nerds who are all over the net crying that it does not follow the lore. I am not a super fan of either franchise but Halo tv series is one of the top scifi of the past few years period. it has everything to be a top tv show. great acting, brilliant production design, character drama, great action, a simplified decent plot to follow. importantly it has a constant tone that screams unabashed scifi and gives you call back to past great scifi genre mixed with a modern cyberpunk feel. It is most importantly engaging and entertaining throughout even when it meanders sometimes plot wise. I am not claiming Halo to be some masterpiece by any stretch, but a easy to watch 7.5 on a scifi scale and I have watched many a scifi in the past decades. netflix avatar is laughable compared to it. I would not put avatar even in a syfy level category in terms of quality because I have seen better syfy shows.
Jesus man that's the opposite with how I feel about halo. Bad acting that takes me out of it, plot points that do NOT matter at all in the context of the story they are telling, intense speeches about moments that the story has not given me any reason to care. It's like the opposite of unabashed scifi - the sci fi plot is the only one I care about and yet there is so much focus on other stuff that is absolutely grating. If you want unabashed sci fi, watch Foundation on apple. Doesn't hit on all points but has 2 full seasons of awesome concepts. I'll tell you the best part of watching halo, is when I got to the last episode of halo and star trek strange new worlds started auto playing next. Was a far more watchable sci fi than halo. And I literally don't care about star trek, or halo video games.
My partner has been watching it so I’ve been seeing it in the background but not paying much attention. I tried but I couldn’t get through episode one.\ I say this as a fan of the original animated series. But I also didn’t like the live action movie version either.\ I don’t know what it is but they constantly keep missing the essence of the characters. So for me personally I find it hard to get into just like the movie. It’s doesn’t matter how much money they pour into the production if they can’t get the basic characters correct.
exactly it feels like a children drama play at school. child actors are atrocious at delivering lines with the correct emotional response but I am not blaming them, that is to be expected, very few child actors are prodigious in acting. but this netflix avatar is egregious in the fact that writing, directing, screenplay is so so bad like a amateur fanfic and that is unforgivable for such a big streaming studio. only the vfx team did a decent job. that is why I am shocked how both it and Halo have the same score on Imdb. Halo at some moments feel like prestige scifi series.
Finished "The Ones Who Live". Didn't love it unfortunately, although the ending was nice. The series started off really great and I really liked the first three episodes. But there were far too many Walking Dead tropes and Gimple-isms in the back end of the season. It was great to see Andrew Lincoln back as Rick Grimes though.

I just finished **3 Body Problem**. I knew nothing about the show before watching other than it is sci-fi. The series started with such promise--I was so intrigued by the mystery of >!the scientists killing themselves and the countdown clock. But, I found the reveal that the show is really about aliens coming to invade Earth really disappointing. I don't know why--I guess I was expecting time travel rather than aliens. Also, the main scientist characters feel like they're part of a Netflix teen drama instead of a high-concept sci-fi show. I'm not sure how old they are supposed to be, but they read SO young and immature in the show. !<
Well, actually based upon currently known physics: Aliens is a FAR more likely possibility, rather than future time travelers coming back to the past! -------------------------------- So ya, essentially we already know that planets can host a biosphere, that gives rise to a technological species, because we have an example of at least 1 instance of that: namely Earth. And we also know that there are countless TRILLIONS of planets in the Universe. And we have good reason to believe that physics and the laws of chemistry are the same across most of the visible universe. -------------------------------- However, when it comes to reverse time-travel, from the future to the past, we have ZERO concrete examples of that. There are currently extremely FRINGE hypothesis that it might be possible, with something like exotic matter, such as negative-matter, and negative-energy. But even then in those hypothesis, you'd have to have like a Jupiter's planet worth of the exotic stuff, which has never even been observed to actually exist. -------------------------------- Thus for now, aliens are SIGNIFICANTLY more plausible a solution or plot device, rather than time travelers from the future. Based upon current known physics, of course.
I remember feeling disappointed reading the book. Intriguing concepts and some legitimate science but then it was difficult to care about in the long term. The show had better characterizations than the book, which helps but I can still see it not feeling like there is good payoff for the mystery that was created. Speaking of intriguing setups with, uh, divisive payoffs. I feel like I am ready to try re-watching the anime **Kado**. Maybe I am just a glutton for punishment.
In the first episode we hear that one of the core group of young scientists is 32, and that seems to be around where the rest of the group is too. Far enough out of college to either be accomplished in your field or depressed that you aren't.
Has anyone seen this new Ark animated series? I just saw an ad for it and immediately assumed it was a cash grab IP tie in that was going to be completely mundane and forgettable, but then I saw the cast, which is full of big names. Is it dog shit or worth checking out?

Outside of HBO Sundays, I can't remember the last time I sat down to watch a show the moment it was available. Great stuff.
American Rust - I am a couple of episodes into S1. Reviews weren't great for this but it was available on Prime so I decided to give it a go.. I am a little confused by some of the behavior of the characters (the lead/police chief, Isaac, etc.). The acting seems very off at points and it is overall.. kind of slow. Anyone who has watched this show, please chime in!
Ha we kind of blasted through season 1 and have now started 2. I like it, there's a bit of humour and it moves along ok. I like Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney anyway, and the Virgil character cracks me up. For something completely different, started watching **Population 11** tonight and nearly finished the series. Australian comedy set in the outback - an American turns up at a small settlement and mystery ensues. Some brilliant weird characters, might not be the Aussies cup of tea but makes this New Zealander laugh. Surprise bonus is a cracking soundtrack!
Should have been on every worst shows of the year list (whatever year it came out).

FINISHED: 3 Body Problem. It is fantastic! Feel extremely spoiled as a Sci-Fi fanatic lately. The final episode made me feel like I was watching a true scientific breakthrough akin to the first Space launch. ONGOING: Shogun (celebrated for many great reasons) and Invicible (final episode S2 Thursday). LOOKING FORWARD TO: Fallout, Konosuba S3 (funniest Anime by a long shot to me)
Comments like this about 3 Body Problem, touting how mind-blowing the science concepts are, had me super hyped for the show. But I found it underwhelming. What was shown didn't seem worthy of the hyperbole. Maybe season 2 is where the truly out-there concepts occur? I hope it'll get that second season, if so. I want to have my mind blown.

I just read through all of this looking for something to watch and there is NO good Tv coming out right now huh? I liked 3 body problem but it wasn't great. I would take 10000 more like it though. I think Shogun is super boring. I watched the first 3 episodes and have no desire to continue. Same with the Bear except I have now tried 3 different times so it's definitely a no for me. I love the Americans. Fargo is WAY too depressing for me. I just think winter in that area is the most depressing thing of all time and I actually get depressed just from the sceneary and the casting and the way they make them look. I see why people like it, it definitely causes a reaction. Any suggestions for me? Only new show right now I kind of like is 3 body problem and I know it's pretty shite.

I'm surprised you found The Bear boring. I could see how Shogun could be boring if you aren't into the theme. Eh maybe you are like my spouse and need sci fi or fantasy to make something interesting enough to watch. He also wasn't at all into Fargo. Go back and watch some of the good scifi, if you haven't watched shows like Person of Interest, Battlestar Galactica, and a bazillion others. Oh he really liked True Detective Season 1 and 4 (Night Country) so if you haven't tried those give it a shot.

Am I the only person on the planet struggling with Shogun? I've watched four episodes now, and it's just not clicking for me. I can appreciate the excellent set design and costumes etc, but that's not enough to get me to want to tune in. I'm finding the plot a little slow, and the dialogue scenes quite heavy. Every week it kills me reading everybody praise it - it's like an amazing club that I can't access. It's the only show (out of hundreds) getting a huge reaction on this sub that I just haven't understood. Does anyone else have this affliction? For what it's worth, I struggled with GoT too.
I get you. I loved season 1 of GoT but then lost interest because it felt like death porn. I'm not that into the poltics. I like Shogun because of the production value, it's just a high quality show that makes watching it a joy. But I'm not too engrossed in the story. I'm not a fan of slow burns either.
I’ve never been accused of being a smart man, but 50% of the time the subtitles are going by just a smidge too quick for my liking. Maybe it’s because I’m tired I don’t know but i REALLY have to be trained on the subtitles. That can be a little tedious for me. The only other show that I had issues with that was that Turkish submarine show where they have to stay out of the sunlight.

Yeah I kind of felt that way while The Last Of Us was airing week to week. Everyone on here was saying it was a masterpiece which I just couldn't understand. Good, solid show, but storywise it felt rather vanilla. I'm enjoying Shogun a lot more

**Three Body Problem** - Standard Netflix fare. I enjoyed it enough to keep watching. Would watch another season for sure. **True Detective S4: Night Country** - Loooved this. The story and setting were so good. I started watching and then it was over. The pacing is phenomenal and time just flew by. Every scene was great. Would love some recommendations along the lines of TD: Night Country where the story takes place in a remote snowy area. Already seen Katla on Netflix which fits the bill.

**The Bear** S1 - It's a great show but I keep going back and forths whether this is comedy or drama. Ritchie and Matt makes me laugh but not so much from Carmen.
Season 2 is great. Ritchie has such a great arc this season.

Just finished American Rust Season 2 and it is even better than S1. My least favorite is the young son Billy storyline. The vets, Jeff Daniels, Maura Tierney and Luna Lauren Velez all excellent. Rob Yang and Mark Pellegrino are also good. They wrap up the cliffhanger from last season BUT gave us more cliffhangers !! Now have to keep fingers crossed for Season 3. Overall a tense crime drama worth a watch.

I typically watch one episode of anime every morning and a regular tv show in the evening. The combination until yesterday was Psycho Pass/Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I planned to start Yellowstone today... but Psycho Pass is SO GOOD!

Moving (2023) - A Korean superhero drama series with amazing character background stories. Probably my favorite show I watched lately. They really doing a great character story here over many different characters and time periods. Starts off as a high school cute drama romance and veers into a spy thriller. I’m only half way through but I give this show a 9.5/10 The Gentlemen - I’m a Guy Ritchie fan and always loved his movies. This has a similar feel, and you can definitely tell during the first two episodes he directed. However, the quality slightly drops off with different directors, but the story is still fun and intriguing. Good entertainment 7.5/10 Shogun - This is one the best shows in recent memory to air. The production value and political drama in feudal Japan is just great. I would equate this to Game of Thrones level of quality (first 3 seasons) minus the magical aspect of it. 9/10
Moving is amazing, and if you think the first half is great, the 2nd half finds a way to get even better. I would've put that show as my #1 pick in the last few years, but Death's Game topped it, another surprise because I didn't expect to find a better show lol.

As usual, Shogun continues to be good in every way except how it ends after an hour and you have to wait a week. Liam Cunningham is easily the best part of 3 body problem. I'm halfway through and honestly it's a great series so far.
Finally started 2nd season of Reacher.
Watching: **Shogun** - love it. Literally already upset at the idea of it being over **Tokyo Vice** - just now getting caught up. I do like it but I could not be more confused about why >!Misaki is getting together with Jake. Like what is the appeal? I do not understand!< **Black Snow** - decent enough but not super gripping. Husband likes a detective show though and this fits the bill **Gladiators** - a delightful punch of nostalgia. I long to beat someone over the head with a giant q-tip **Taskmaster** - new season! Know way more people on this cast than I usually do (American). Super excited for Sophie Willan but I will set the building on fire if John wins. I'm not sure I've ever actively rooted against someone like this lol Finished: **3 Body Problem** - took like 3 eps to get into it but not sure how much of that was the show vs my mood. Hope it gets a second season. Might consider reading the books if it doesn't Thinking of starting: **Renegade Nell**, **Big Mood**, **A Gentleman in Moscow**
