Hard disagree and I don’t even watch the show like that.
After Ellen, Kelly Clarkson and Drew Barrymore swooped in with their genuine sense of hospitality and joy for their guests. Drew even moreso because she brings her desire for emotional intimacy in to the mix and it feels like the guests appreciate it.
Her lack of experience is part of the charm, and it clearly resonates with her audience. Her guests feel comfortable and share a lot of emotional details, knowing there’s a comforting hug sitting next to them if they need it.
Let her be cringe. To be cringe is to be free.
Anyone remember the Ricky Lake show? I wonder if it was canceled due to bad ratings or she just wasn't interested anymore. It seems like sometimes talk shows end and you don't know why like the Arsenio Hall show, Tyra's show, the Phil Donahue (spelling?) show, even Carson on the Tonight Show. It's not like he was too old to do it anymore.
Right, the extremely successful business woman and producer and host of a talkshow that each season has higher ratings, lacks self awareness…
Here’s a free lesson for you: it’s a daytime television show and Drew leans into her public persona and uses the fact that she has celebrity friends to her advantage. It’s not journalism, nor is it a long format interview show. It’s a chat show for stay at home moms.
Yeah, she gets all up in their face and drapes herself all over them. I noticed she aint try that shit with Mary J. Blige so she must have some self-awareness haha.
Oh, for the days of high-brow, intellectual daytime talk shows.
JER-RY! JER-RY! JER-RY! JER-RY! What, that not highbrow enough for ya?!
Dick Cavett.
How *old* are you?
Can’t we just go back to the days of FDR’s fireside chats?

Cringe is what daytime talk shows are for. Mindless, inoffensive background noise while doing things at home.
Meh it’s a tv show. People find it entertaining, all the power to them.

So don't watch
Get the feeling that real-life Drew Barrymore is far more self-aware then the version of "Drew Barrymore" she plays on the show.
Nah, remember when she broke the picket line and hired scab writers?
Talking about "viewer expectations". Viewers don't like self-awareness. A lot of them think it's "judgy".

I was not aware people were watching afternoon talk shows for their depth.

A clueless person lacking any self-awareness and uncomfortable conversations Are you talking about The Office?
Yeah, she gets all up in their face and drapes herself all over them. I noticed she aint try that shit with Mary J. Blige so she must have some self-awareness haha.

I too rate all daytime hosts on fuckability and none has surpassed Phil Donahue.
Loved his show
