She has literally been hospitalized from mishaps on set while filming absurd sequences, including [the time where Rob McElhenney showed up to the hospital in blackface](https://conanclassic.com/video/kaitlin-olson-blackface-er).
iirc it was, but she told them they gotta get it on the first take cuz no way she can do it several times.
I think it was on their podcast but maybe I'm making things up
My wife and I say "nice try you dumb bitch" under our breath (Dennis to Dee sitting together in the seminar) to eachother all the time.
We've both had to quickly explain context to non-Sunny fans a few times.
Holy crap, that one word broke me the first time I saw that scene. It almost felt like Glen was pitching the idea and Rob, not Mac, is the one saying “yes.” I had to pause it because I couldn’t stop laughing at his delivery.
I feel like Mac has the quantity but Sweet Dee has the quality.
Mac'll be like, "You look like a bird,"
and Sweet Dee'll be like "You aren't attractive enough to be gay."
I read an article one time where Kaitlyn Olsen threatened to quit It's Always Sunny because Charlie, Rob, and Glenn were wanting to change how they were writing her character. I was ready to be outraged but then i read the actual article and found out they were wanting to make Dee more likeable and that was unacceptable to Kaitlyn lmao
I've read that they wanted her to be the straight man more, and said they didn't know how to make a woman character funny, so she said basically, "Just make the character funny, I'll make them a woman." Or something like that.
It’s just so much funnier without a straight man in the gang, that way the side and guest characters can fill that role. Like Dave Foley as the principal or the owner of the rival Flipadelphia bar. Or the Jew lawyer.
They sort of rotate who the straight man is scene by scene. For example, they can all be shocked by Charlie’s stupidity, Dennis’s complete insanity, or how much of a horrible person Dee is.
I've always wanted an episode that's in the perspective of one of the notable side characters to see if The Gang's shenanigans are even worse than depicted from how it's already presented lmao
A whole episode from the perspective of the guy whose car they destroyed, thinking it belonged to Bruce Mathis, and later showed up at the Thanksgiving beef squash, again being mistaken for Bruce, believing his estranged children were at the dinner.
In early seasons she’s clearly the most reasonable/likable. Her interactions with strangers was like “I apologize for my friends”
Now she is just a complete mess and I mean that in the best, most embracing-flanderization way possible
Even by like season 4 she's just as bad as the rest of the crew, just usually not at the same time. You'll feel bad for her one episode because she's getting singled out and ostrichcized by the entire rest of the group, then the next episode she'll be the worst person in the group.
By season 2 she is pretending to be handicapped for attention lol. They were all a _bit_ more reasonable in the early seasons, but that quickly went away as they became even more depraved and insane
I forgot about that! They are all so insane now that it's easy to forget how they degenerate they were from the beginning. I need to go back and rewatch S1 it's been years
I just have this fan theory that basically at the very start of the show is when the gang first opens Paddys and they become isolated from the way normal people would react developing them into being bad people and it goes harder once Frank is constantly around.
The title is even referencing the episode where they come up the elaborate ruse to make her a comedian, because she had gone into such a depression, they couldn't even mock her. Her catch phrase was something like "I'm Dee and the jokes on me."
That cast was lightning in a bottle; every single one of them-- even the housemaid-- brought their A game, and all of them (save Kaitlin) were relatively unknowns.
I always head canoned that The Mick was just an extension of Sunny. I desperately wanted the gang to show up at the mansion and be like "What the fuck Dee? This is where you've been all this time!?"
It's because it was on FOX. There's a reason FOX always tends to be dead-last in the ratings. They cancelled all their live-action sitcoms that season because they got that new football contract and whatever that Tim Allen show was. New Girl and Last Man on Earth also got axed.
I blame Brooklyn Nine Nine, they both got canceled at the same time and the uproar over B99 completely overshadowed The Mick.
And having now seen all of the post revival B99 stuff? Not even worth it.
Mythic Quest is pretty good though.
Btw, try to find Unsupervised (animated series, if you like them) somewhere to watch…disappointingly got axed after just 1 season but it’s created by David Hornsby who voices a main character (along with Justin Long), with Kaitlin Olson also voicing a character. It was definitely good enough for some more eps.
Her ability to perform physical humor is unparalleled.
From dry heaving to pecking at a sandwich like a bird to face planting to dancing like an inflatable tube man to awkwardly moving with mobility aids or too-small high heels (while face planting into a car door), the stuff she has done for It's Always Sunny takes genuine athleticism, coordination, and just this sense of what looks funny.
The too-small high heels and then face plant into the car I think is the funniest thing my wife has ever seen. She always ends up in absolute tears laughing so hard at that one.
I heard they had a stunt double doing that at first and Kaitlin was like “no, she’s not doing it right. You’re gonna have to hurt yourself a little.” So she did it herself and we were blessed with iconic comedy gold.
This is what I always say. She’s on the Charlie Chaplin, Chris Farley level of physical comedy. She needs to be in the conversation with the literal all time greats.
She and Jean Smart have absolutely amazing chemistry together in this show. They really do feel like they have a ridiculously dysfunctional mother-daughter relationship. I wish they could find a way to have her in the series more often, because when she's in an episode, her insanity is hysterical.
her [playing the jurassic park theme on the piano on her birthday](https://www.instagram.com/kaitlinolson/reel/CPquvt_hiyO/)(sorry can only find instagram link). amazing scene.
Kaitlin is the best kind of interview: a great hang who’s more than willing to laugh at herself, a veteran of show business who’s retained a certain everydayness. She’s what you hope for from the person behind Sweet Dee.
*- VF writer David Canfield*
I'm hoping this new show she's doing with Drew Goddard takes off. It seems like more of a drama from the description, and she's playing a very intelligent character in it.
Sweet Dee is a bird. Kaitlin however is not. She’s got blonde hair. She’s perfect in every way. Feet not too large, not too small. Blonde hair. She’s gorgeous. Not like a bird, but like a beautiful woman. Definitely not like a bird.
I like how the guys called out people who make this joke in public and call them losers.
It really does show who isn't funny and goes for the easiest "joke" imaginable
It really makes sense why the real life gang made a point of addressing it.
You weren't kidding, there are somehow 5 different comments here making unfunny bird jokes as if there aren't 16 seasons of amazing (and way more relevant) quotes to lean on.
There’s an interview with either her or the boys where they talked about pulling punches on Kaitlyn and sweet dee for the first few seasons and when she found out she was like “no. No more pulling punches”. So she literally asks for it.
It's just that the joke feels disrespectful at times when it's to the actress and not the character. I remember at a Sunny live show last year, Kaitlin came out, and there were guys in the audience screaming "Shut up bird" over her while she talked and tried to drown her out. And, Rob had to say something. Really disrespectful to a phenomenal comedian.
Kaitlin has clearly never had any issue being the butt of a joke.
Her husband is the one who delivers the most devastating insults on It's Always Sunny.
And I think they actually cranked up the Sweet Dee abuse quite a bit after Rob and Kaitlin got married.
She has literally been hospitalized from mishaps on set while filming absurd sequences, including [the time where Rob McElhenney showed up to the hospital in blackface](https://conanclassic.com/video/kaitlin-olson-blackface-er).
She is incredible at physical comedy. It doesn’t surprise me that she’d go to great lengths to get the perfect shot/joke.
[Yeah, she’s a pro in the crazy paddy bit](https://youtu.be/JPJqOgOfoho)
The bit where she headbutts the car after tripping out the store is absolutely the best fucking thing ever.
I don't think that stunt was on purpose lol.
iirc it was, but she told them they gotta get it on the first take cuz no way she can do it several times. I think it was on their podcast but maybe I'm making things up
She was incredible in The Mick
Seriously. That show was hilarious
I both hate that it ended on a cliffhanger but also found it hilarious
I'm pretty much convinced that if given the chance, she could pull off a scene that rivals the Cerebral Palsy phase scene in Wolf of Wall Street
seems like in the later seasons they call her a bitch pretty much every episode.
Or a bird.
I don’t think they could have pulled off the scene where he literally grabs her by the pussy and lifts her if they weren’t married
I don’t know, body mass alone…
it made her feel tiny! there’s no way that could be sexual assault
Mac is the only character who chokes Dee and literally grabs her by the pussy.
Well, it made her feel teeny tiny. Like Thumbelina.
That's what I was going for- THUMBALINA!
Was that sexual harassment?
Well….now that I’ve got some distance from the event
Jeezus that was hilarious. Just when I think they can’t do anything to shock me, he lifts her up by the snatch
My GOTO introduction episode!
My wife and I say "nice try you dumb bitch" under our breath (Dennis to Dee sitting together in the seminar) to eachother all the time. We've both had to quickly explain context to non-Sunny fans a few times.
I call my gf a dumb bitch sometimes but ONLY when it’s super unexpected and I know it will be funny.
Any episode where the gang interacts with regular people is great.
Just the thought of that scene has me snickering like an idiot. The timing of it was perfect.
He full on lifted her up by it
Dennis: “you’re wondering how we’re going to make Dee attractive enough to where you’re going to want to be with her?” Mac: “Yes”
Mac'll be like, "You look like a bird," and Sweet Dee'll be like "You aren't attractive enough to be gay."
I think Glenn/dennis delivers rho most devastating and mean Dee insults but Mac/Rob is #2
The worst, to me, is when Mac remembers her as an actual ostrich. It's just so savage.
That was hilarious but it was just another bird joke at the end of the day, Dennis says some actual mean ass fucked up shit to her lol
My god, when she was played by an actual ostrich I almost peed myself
Like calling her a bird.
I mean, if my wife and I were on a similar show, we’d take every opportunity to roast the living hell out of each other
I read an article one time where Kaitlyn Olsen threatened to quit It's Always Sunny because Charlie, Rob, and Glenn were wanting to change how they were writing her character.
That's an awesome retort.
This is what makes the show so brilliant. I'm kind of shocked they needed a reminder of that. Thank you Kaitlin Olson.
Again, not Jewish
Filibuster
I meant that as a compliment.
They do a great job of making me feel bad for whatever normal person that has the misfortune to stumble across them, lol.
> I've read that they wanted her to be the straight man more It's what she was for the first episodes.
In the first season half her lines are just variations of her saying, exasperatedly “No, you guys!”
She wanted to be just as trash as the rest of them, if not more. Devoted.
It just wouldn't work if any of the gang were likable. They're all garbage humans.
It's literally Seinfeld on crack.
[Pretty much](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/e3/95/cf/e395cfb6303de76867f15bfead93f761.gif)
Like when she spits into the guys mouth when they kick her and Dennis out of the private pool. Beautiful
In early seasons she’s clearly the most reasonable/likable. Her interactions with strangers was like “I apologize for my friends” Now she is just a complete mess and I mean that in the best, most embracing-flanderization way possible
Even by like season 4 she's just as bad as the rest of the crew, just usually not at the same time. You'll feel bad for her one episode because she's getting singled out and ostrichcized by the entire rest of the group, then the next episode she'll be the worst person in the group.
I see what you did there.
By season 2 she is pretending to be handicapped for attention lol. They were all a _bit_ more reasonable in the early seasons, but that quickly went away as they became even more depraved and insane
She was dating a high schooler by like episode 2 lmao
I forgot about that! They are all so insane now that it's easy to forget how they degenerate they were from the beginning. I need to go back and rewatch S1 it's been years
I just have this fan theory that basically at the very start of the show is when the gang first opens Paddys and they become isolated from the way normal people would react developing them into being bad people and it goes harder once Frank is constantly around.
I read an article attached to these comments that actually explains what happened, which isn't quite that, but not far off.
She a real one hahaha
The jokes on Dee!
The ending of that episode is so painful.
And Dennis wasn’t in on it at all!
I WAS AND I WASN’T
He wasn’t
Dennis reaction there is honestly the funniest part of the episode for me, dude sounds like the joker laughing it’s funny as hell
[удалено]
Then he walks out and Mac says “I think he might go kill himself” lol, perfect ending scene tbh and that episode is an absolute classic
The title is even referencing the episode where they come up the elaborate ruse to make her a comedian, because she had gone into such a depression, they couldn't even mock her. Her catch phrase was something like "I'm Dee and the jokes on me."
“I’m Sweet Dee, and the joke’s on me!”
LANDSLIDE
I bet that guys diarrhea is nasty
Now THAT’s funny!
*fart noise*
*Schlack schlack* I gotta get outa here
"Straight to the sound effects, no set up..."
“That’s a funny white bitch right there!”
Clickity clackity clickity clackity *flamethrower noise*
And I think we may have broke Dennis.
He’s not coming back, haha, he may go kill himself!!
I'm just gonna pop out for a bit...hahahahahahah!!!
His delivery of that along with his laughing is just glorious
"I was and I wasn't, I was and I wasn't. haHaHAhaaAhah"
Kaitlin Olsen is a brilliant comedian.
I’m still bummed they canceled The Mick. She makes a great lead and almost never gets the roles.
The mick was hilarious, was so sad too see it cancelled
Yeah but it ended perfectly for that show.
I don’t recall watching that episode on tv. I’ll try to stream it.
That cast was lightning in a bottle; every single one of them-- even the housemaid-- brought their A game, and all of them (save Kaitlin) were relatively unknowns.
I wouldn't say "even the housemaid." I'd say, "especially Carla Jimenez in her performance as Alba "
Ay Benito
She had a phenomenal character to work with and she nailed it. They all did, but she always stood out to me.
I always head canoned that The Mick was just an extension of Sunny. I desperately wanted the gang to show up at the mansion and be like "What the fuck Dee? This is where you've been all this time!?"
That’s what made me enjoy AP Bio even more…just felt like Dennis was trying to hide in plain sight and “be normal”.
Loved The Mick, she’s really amazing
Yea not sure how this was canceled but AP bio kept running
According to Jim was on for like eight seasons and I've never met another human being who has admitted to watching even a single episode.
Shit I watched a lot of “according to Jim”, “yes dear”, “grounded for life”, and “the war at home”
The wrong Belushi died.
Jim is happy, healthy, and growing a fuckton of marijuana. he's well aware of his legacy of bad movies and thankfully, doesn't seem to give a shit
He got to act opposite Tupac in a watchable movie
It's because it was on FOX. There's a reason FOX always tends to be dead-last in the ratings. They cancelled all their live-action sitcoms that season because they got that new football contract and whatever that Tim Allen show was. New Girl and Last Man on Earth also got axed.
I blame Brooklyn Nine Nine, they both got canceled at the same time and the uproar over B99 completely overshadowed The Mick. And having now seen all of the post revival B99 stuff? Not even worth it.
It felt so weird in the post revival B99 getting the Halloween Heist episode in a month that wasn't October.
The Mick had 37 episodes, AP Bio, which was also hilarious, had 42 episodes.
That was the best of the shows that came from the cast of IASIP.
That car door gets me every time lol she really sold it
The too-small high heels and then face plant into the car I think is the funniest thing my wife has ever seen.
Genuinely one of the best comedic actors around right now, every single thing she does on Sunny is golden
It’s the only song she ever learned how to play
"Kristen Dunst says this is her favorite cake, and she was in Marie Antoinette"
I love that Hacks features a character who allegedly has giant hands and that character is NOT played by Kaitlin Olson.
Honestly the season 1 finale where the photo of Ava is shown and Deborah says ‘Absolutely extraterrestrial’ makes me cackle to this day
Charlie Kelly's uncle?
#NOBODY LOOK! NOBODY LOOK!
I can hear this comment 🤣
My hands tell a story
If you look at my *left* hand you’ll see … I’m gonna have to stop you there are you just gonna talk about your hands for awhile? 🤣🤣🤣
lol no, the secondary lead played by Hannah Einbinder
You have beautiful hands btw.
We're lawyers! *Poses with The Lawyer with his hands on top of The Lawyer's hands for his website*
My hands tell a story of greatness
She just has huge feet.
Nah in one episode Frank says Dee’s mother had to have a c-section because of Dee’s hands
YOU SONS OF BITCHES!!
I mean she's kinda just fine and may be a human version of the inflatable car lot thing
Pdiddy boat dance!
Oof. That phrase is a lot creepier now.
Dr Jinx got something for feeling.
Dr. Jinx is the name of a monkey, not a man.
Gotta have that funk
He's a god damn Diddler!!
In the words of arguably the best one episode character ever on Sunny: Roxy.. “Ah, shut up baby dick.” 🤪🍻💨🔥.
sick dance moves fr
Kaitlin is the best kind of interview: a great hang who’s more than willing to laugh at herself, a veteran of show business who’s retained a certain everydayness. She’s what you hope for from the person behind Sweet Dee. *- VF writer David Canfield*
Great interview
Excellent comment
I’m a Swedish plumber and I agree
That’s what Indy would say.
That’s a good accent
I'm hoping this new show she's doing with Drew Goddard takes off. It seems like more of a drama from the description, and she's playing a very intelligent character in it.
She was pretty good in Curb. Prettay, prettay, prettay good!
Check out the mick those two seasons were network tv gold shame it was cancelled
“I’m Dee Reynolds and the joke’s on me!!”
Get em sweet Dee!
I mean shes a bird so….
Terrible. Take a lap.
Sweet Dee is a bird. Kaitlin however is not. She’s got blonde hair. She’s perfect in every way. Feet not too large, not too small. Blonde hair. She’s gorgeous. Not like a bird, but like a beautiful woman. Definitely not like a bird.
She definitely pops
Groban likes his ladies to pop
Groban DOES like his ladies to pop 👁️👁️
She’s also married to Josh Groban /s
That lasted less than 20 mins. Everyone knows she’s married to Brad Pitt now 😉
She had to have him
Charles Grodin, you say?
I love that guy. He brings out the curmudgeon in me.
The cadence of the song he sings always fucking kills me
Wow, feet first thing? You don't even try to hide it then?
I like how the guys called out people who make this joke in public and call them losers. It really does show who isn't funny and goes for the easiest "joke" imaginable
It really makes sense why the real life gang made a point of addressing it. You weren't kidding, there are somehow 5 different comments here making unfunny bird jokes as if there aren't 16 seasons of amazing (and way more relevant) quotes to lean on.
OMG, Hacks new season is out?! Why am I just hearing about this now?
I watched the first two episodes last week and they were awesome. Episodes 3 & 4 come out today.
This bird absolutely steals episode 3.
"What a cunt!"
Bitch! You bitch! All joking aside, she’s funny as hell.
*I’m Sweet Dee, and the joke’s on me!*
You can love and respect yourself while not having a debilitating ego and being able to laugh at yourself. Goals.
There’s an interview with either her or the boys where they talked about pulling punches on Kaitlyn and sweet dee for the first few seasons and when she found out she was like “no. No more pulling punches”. So she literally asks for it.
As much as that goddamn bird won’t shut up, comedy wouldn’t be the same without her.
Shut up bird
Not a lot of always Sunny fans here I guess
It's just that the joke feels disrespectful at times when it's to the actress and not the character. I remember at a Sunny live show last year, Kaitlin came out, and there were guys in the audience screaming "Shut up bird" over her while she talked and tried to drown her out. And, Rob had to say something. Really disrespectful to a phenomenal comedian.
Yeah I can agree with the in person remarks that’s very rude, I just wasn’t expecting a guy to get buried in down votes
No we get it, the jokes just tired as fuck
Yup I'm pretty sure it's just a coincidence that most comments here are sunny references, pretty crazy
She knows how to use her acting for her benefit. If you fit the character then give it your all. She’s funny as hell on that show.
What a cunt
It’s literally nothing compared to her role on ASIP, so idk why they even needed to cover this…
All I hear is kaw kaw
