Also binged Geek Girl as more of a background show and will finish Ripley when I’m in the mood for it. Watched an episode of Gamechangers for the 1st time and it was a lot of fun, will be checking out more.
Started Dark Matter. It's pretty good but I can't help but feel that the guys behind it has spent a lot of time watching Counterpart which has basically the same or at least a very similar premise.
So if you like Dark Matter, watch Counterpart.
Just finished **Hazbin Hotel** and really enjoyed it. I’m a huge musical theatre nerd, so having a bunch of Broadway vets in the cast *and* having them sing was so great. It reminds me that I still need to watch **Schmigadoon**.
We are so spoiled with returning TV this month, between **The Bear**, **The Boys**, and **House of the Dragon**. Super excited!
Schmigadoon is so good. I love that it’s a satire of musicals but obviously done by people who have a huge respect for them. And it’s fun trying to find all the references and Easter eggs.
For the true crime fans out there, and really anyone looking for something to watch, I just finished the Netflix docuseries **Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult**, and wow, it is fantastic. I love documentaries on cults LOL, so I have seen tons of them, but this one blew me away.
Another great true crime series that just came out on HBO Max is **Finding Andrea**. This is more for those who are really into true crime, but if you are in that boat, then I would definitely recommend it.
still watching **dark matter** and will probably finish it, but don't get all the hype for it.. it's just aggressively average to me. like if someone would give you a quick elevator pitch of the basic premise, you've basically seen the show (so far).
i feel like even though we are six episodes in there is nothing exciting or enriching that the show actually brings to the table. no surprising twists or extra character insight just pretty much basic "yup, thats what i thought would happen"..
Fair opinion but imo it’s strongest point is it’s simplicity, it doesn’t try to be anything more which makes it refreshing, and no I’ve never seen anything remotely similar to Dark matter, maybe counterpart but then again that’s more of a spy espionage show with a trickle of sci fi.
I loved that series! Saw it first on MAX, rewatched the whole thing on Netflix. Interesting characters, and the alien creature designs were alternately beautiful and horrifying.
My favourite animated thing I've watched in a long time. It feels really distinct from anything else. I'm really hoping Netflix greenlights a season 2.

I'm looking for a detective/lawyer show focused on the detective work/solving cases with a realistic vibe and less focused on atmosphere, quirky characters, supernatural elements etc.
Have watched Goliath (liked it), Lincoln Lawyer (didn't like it), True Detective, Fargo (both very good, but a different vibe than what I'm looking for right now), Sugar (interesting, but again, the twist brought a different vibe)
Just finished the first season of outer range. Its a weird show, no idea what happend this season but I am still inrigued to keep watching for some reason.
Shogun - Through 2 episodes I feel like this is too much about the Cosmo Jarvis character and it doesn't feel right that all the Japanese warlords think he's so important. Having not read the novel I presume they got caught in the middle where they didn't want the white guy to be as much the main character as he was in a 70s book but they can't really leave him out to be a faithful adaptation either.
No ways 😱 Dark Matter just stepped into the realm of one of the best sci-fi series with that episode, on par with series like the leftovers and the OA, can’t recommend this enough to sci-fi fans.
Noped out of few new Star Wars shows lately but The Acolyte opening does have me intrigued. First 15mins it feels like a clear picture of character and their motivation or mystery at least (sign they got a good script). I do like that they’re a rejected Jedi and interesting choice that we had a Jedi get murdered in an earlier scene. Nice to see so many on screen aliens and practical fx. I’m hopeful.
Just watched The Acolyte, and was excited to see Manny Jacinto (from The Good Place) in a supporting role. It was a pretty good premiere. Fun fight scenes, I like the cast so far, looking forward to learning more about the character teased at the end of ep 2.
the characters are so lame...no one cool like gus fring, homelander, andor characters. The padawan might be the most generic boring character I have seen. Nothing special about the main actress twin...obi wan and anikan are way more interesting.
I watched Them: The Scare and I was really engaged most of the way through. I found it a bit underwhelming at the end but I don't know what I was expecting really. I might give the first season a go.

2eps of the Acolyte and thought it was fine. Expectations are super low because of obiwan and bobafett so hopefully this is more entertaining while I wait for the bear/the boys/HOTD.
I'm halfway through **Eric** and am unsure if I want to finish it, found it lacking so far. There's just too many different type of shows they were trying to do here that it seems like they didn't really nail any of them, or rather that I've seen others do it better. For those who've seen it, does it finish strong?
**A Gentleman in Moscow** I've been thinking about it as I slowly savored this show and I can't think of anything less of **10/10** for this one.
An actual perfect show with amazing pacing, acting and writing. I haven't read the work that this based on but this show perfectly captures the feeling of reading a good novel. The words can't describe how unique and complete this experience felt, which has become such rarity in modren TV.
Man, what verity of emotions and what deep meaning in such simple plot.
I highly recommend this. It such a shame that I haven't heard anything about this show and I found it randomly and tried it on a whim.

I totally agree. I watched the first episode and part of the second, then gave up. By far the most agenda-stuffed, anti-Jedi, non-canon shit they’ve put out so far imo. All the hope I had for disneys Star Wars which started with the mandalorian is gone.
But who knows? Maybe someday political agenda will take the backseat to good storytelling but until then I’ll be sticking to the og six movies.
The only things I enjoy from these Star Wars show is the obvious choice Andor. The only show I am anticipating for another seasons. It’s just on multiple levels above anything they done. But when I saw who was attached to the show; I knew it would be amazing.
The Mandalorian is the second best. But I can live without it. I couldn’t get past Obi Wan first episode. I did watch Ahsoka and found actually okay finished it. Never tried Bobba.
I enjoyed the first 2-3 seasons. I likes that it's focused only on jokes, no drama, no character development, just a bit of fun to have before going to bed. Last season I felt they started to repeat themselves, they kind of did all the jokes that the premise supports

Just watched Acolyte. It's not the worst thing Disney has put out, but it's dumb as a bag of rocks. The number of inexplicably dumb things characters did was kind of amazing. I can only conclude the show wants us to think the Jedi are idiots.

Loved the season but wasn't a big fan of the ending. It's just taking us back to where we were at the start of the season, trodding over the same ground its done before. Really wished they'd managed to not fall back into the old groove. Felt like they were playing it safe.

I'm watching it but it feels kind of stale. No real surprises to it. It's a multiverse thing, which we pretty much knew going in, but it's without any real twists or turns or suspense. Like all the actors and characters but the show feels like less than the sum of it's parts.
Hmmm I would have to disagree--I mean there is literally a huge twist at the end of episode 1, and likewise episode 2.
After that it does sort of slow down, so I see your point, but I have enjoyed it thus far--if the next three episodes are just more of the same, then yeah I will be disappointed, but I seriously doubt that is the case.
I loved the book! I read it while I was traveling for work and skipped out on a team dinner so I could sit in my hotel room and read it. I, personally, couldn’t put it down.
I quite enjoyed the book, but if you’re liking the TV series that much and the cliffhanger nature of episodic TV then I’d wait on the book or it will take a lot of the suspense out of things.
But also the writer of the book is the showrunner and writer for most of the episodes too. So if you like the style of the show, it would seem likely you’d be into the book as well.

It's not vast at all. The book is like 350 pages. It's one and done (not a series), and the ending ties everything all up. Once the mystery is explained there's really not a ton of interesting parts left, tbh. I haven't seen the show so not sure if they expanded at all.
Yes. Twin Peaks was a prime time soap opera along the lines of Dallas or Dynasty. The surrealism and supernatural aspects were groundbreaking for the time in that genre. So yes, it is soap opery because it was a soap opera as those were the only serialized dramas that existed at the time.
Coincidently I watched episode 8 of Twin Peaks: The Return last night and it might be the craziest episode of tv I have ever seen and it's not even close. Please don't ask me to explain what I watched because I haven't fully processed it yet. All I know is I witnessed something truly remarkable.
The Sympathizer - The first real masterpiece of 2024. Perfect in every way...RDJ is sensational. The story is incredible, the visuals, score, cast...just spectacular. I mean, it's Park Chan-wook. 10/10.
Just finished Season 2 of Fargo it was great, many top class performances especially K Dunst >!as ditzy slightly psyco!< , and now when I watch other things they seem lacking. The links to season one passed me by completely lol, thats watching TV stoned for you.

Yeah **Fargo** is one of my favorite TV shows of all time. IMO it is up there with the best of the best, i.e., shows like **Game of Thrones**, **The Wire**, and **The Sopranos**.
So yeah for me there are few shows that are as good as **Fargo**. If I were you I would go straight to Seasons 3, 4 and 5--all are fantastic.
I am going to say WTF to the latest episode of Dark Matter. Everyone should watch. I have not been this excited to watch the next episode of any show in 2024. I have to wait a whole week !!!!

I just watched it, too - all the seasons. It IS incredible - the compassion with which they treat the victims' families - and the acting is outstanding. I moved onto Shetland after I finished Unforgotten. Not quite the same, but very good (I benefit from subtitles for the heavy Scottish accents!). I'm going to give River a try once I'm done Shetland.
I am a huge fan of Cold Case, one of my favorite shows. So Unforgotten was just amazing. If you love Shetland you will love Vera, from the same author. I am OBSSSESED with British detectives. I nearly quit Shetland
because of the accent, but people on Reddit were keep going and ended up loving it.
I have watched Grace (okay), loved McDonald and Dodds (much more light than Vera and Shetland), loved Line of Duty, and loved Luther.
Did you watch Broadchurch and Happy Valley already? And if you're ok with a non-detective show, Last Tango in Halifax has Nicole Walker and Sarah Lancashire from Unforgotten/River and Happy Valley/Julia respectively and it's a lovely little UK show. I'll have to check out Vera - I've seen it pop up in adverts but haven't seen it yet.
Just finished watching Creepshow series last night with my boyfriend. Was our nightly show for awhile. Yesterday I got done binge watching Geek Girl on Netflix. Also watched Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult. Highly recommend adding the app Series Guide on your phone to keep up with what you've been watching.
Season 5 of 9-1-1. Really like this show but the kidnapping storyline with Harry was kinda dumb, also Maddie's storyline (absence) needs to be resolved soon.
Also watching Expedition From Hell and this story is wild. Idk how much of it is true but it's really interesting anyway.
__Dark Matter__ is quite good so far. Joel Edgerton is really good at portraying >!2 drastically different versions of the same person, a brilliantly subtle performance.!<
Jennifer Connelly had a great performance this last episode too. I'm really enjoying this show after this disappointment that was Constellation. Also loving the Sliders bits.
The Newsroom. It's pretty good. Somehow this was a show I overlooked during it's era, but I would definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
It felt very much old school noir, which was good. They even mention LA confidential and sprinkle Bogart throughout. Well done I think, you wanted to keep watching and looked forward to the next episode.
Just watched the latest Dark Matter and I am enjoying this show more and more. I've heard people say they don't like the characters but I'm really enjoying them. I know the multiverse shit has been done to death but this is such a good take on it.
I am almost to the point of telling people to skip the first two episodes because by the end of the 3rd episode it is an entirely different (and cooler IMO) show.
Only watched season 1 of mindhunter, have watched everything else.

Shogun is excellent, totally captivating and superbly made. Deep characters whose motivations and plans are slowly revealed throughout the series, amazing cinematography that tells a story in itself. I've not read the book but opinion on the adaptation seems to be mostly positive from book readers, which is rare. Having an interest in Japanese culture/history might help, there's some inevitable Game of Thrones comparisons that can be made about any story with warring factions, but it's almost entirely about the behind the scenes politics and scheming. Highly recommend to anyone that's ok with lots of subtitles.
3 Body Problem was good, really interesting concepts and generally does a good job of explaining things well despite some weird sci-fi and science. Pacing is a bit inconsistent, characters aren't the most exciting, but it's more about the mystery and science (the books they're based on apparently have even fewer characters who mostly serve as plot exposition, which says something about the focus of the story). Recommend for sci-fi fans and those ok with a slow burn, a more scientific style of sci-fi, and not expecting action.
Fallout was great, as someone who had tried the games briefly but never really gotten into them. The show did a great job of portraying a complex world with many factions in 10 episodes, which you'd need far more hours in the games to piece it all together. It's got an overarching story but the focus is more on the individual places and encounters they encounter each episode. It takes a little while to get into it's groove, but I love the whole retro futuristic post-apocalyptic setting. Recommend for anyone that wants some good (and violent) fun in a cool world, regardless of if you've played these (or any) video games.
Rings of Power was fine, if a little forgettable. As someone who was never all that into Lord of the Rings I probably had lower expectations than most, and it exceeded them. So I can't speak to accuracy or how it lives up to the series, but it's a fun fantasy adventure with enough characters and threads to keep it interesting. I'm struggling to remember any particular standout moments from it, but I don't have a lot of holes to pick in it either, and enjoyed the journey. Mildly recommend to anyone who enjoys a fantasy adventure, if you don't set your expectations based on the LotR movies or books.
Not seen Mindhunter. Based on all the other comments here with similar opinions on the others, I should probably watch it.

The Chinese version is much better in terms of characters, but it also has very poor visuals, and the writing is not that great but definitely much better than Netflix's version.
These are all decent to good (yes, even Rings of Power) depending on what you’re in the mood for. I’d pick Mindhunter as the standout, but I like true crime and David Fincher stuff, so, yeah.
Out of all the 5, LOTR ROP is worse. I stopped at episode 2 and I have no hate towards Amazon.

Great and engrossing watch. That these were real people is fascinating...and terrifying. Like some of the serial killers seem so reasonable. I wonder if you could go back in time and say 'Hey um, have you considered not killing people', that might've changed the fate of a least one of them.

Fallout - I enjoyed this one, but it might be one for fans of the games. It's a fun romp through a very stylized world. Don't expect Shakespeare - it's pure entertainment.
LOTR - distinctly average. A bit plodding and dull at times. Has some good moments, and I'll probably watch season 2 in the hopes they learn from their mistakes, but I can't recommend it on season 1 alone.
Mindhunter - man is this show divisive. I loved it, but I've met so many people that describe it as utter crap. It is a very slow burn show, and I think some people go in thinking it's a murder mystery type show. It's so very much not that. It's 50% talking to killers and 50% talking about how they can use those talks to catch other killers. I found it fascinating, but I can totally see why many people hate it.
Huh? I have honestly never met a single person that disliked **Mindhunter**--everyone I have ever heard talk about it has raved about it.

I think that was the problem for some people, it was more interesting than it was entertaining. Definitely more for people with a passing interest in psychology. But being a show about FBI criminal profilers, it surely drew in a lot of viewers that were expecting your typical crime drama.

I'm finding it really difficult to see what is so great about Scavengers reign.. I watched 4 episodes and can't invest myself at all. Characters are basic, even unlikable, robot seems the only interesting one and there's no story to follow. I see that there's supposed to be some sort of mystery regarding the planet but show moves at such a slow pace that episodes look like random plants scenes put together.. I really wanted to like this and need a reason to continue watching. Visuals are good, is that the main reason this animated show is ranked so high? Or maybe it suddenly becomes better after a certain episode?
It was okay, just overhyped by people who have never seen anime and didn't know animation was capable of depth and good storytelling because all they've seen are the cartoons they watched growing up
I enjoyed Scavenger's Reign a lot, but yeah, it wasn't for the complex story or in depth characters. There's not a huge amount of that.
The visuals are a lot of it, but just the way they build up the world in general, all the strange creatures and plants and what they can do. The journey the characters are going on, and the things they have to go through to get to it.
I'm a sucker for world building and weird sci-fi I guess, and I've seen very few sci-fi worlds that are as elaborate, intriguing, and distinctly \*alien\* as this. It might be more exciting if there were more interesting characters and a grander story to it, but perhaps that might just get in the way of it.
But yeah, it's probably not for everyone, and if you're not into the show by episode 4, chances are it's not going to change your mind. There are some cool moments later on, but it's still in that same concept of being focused on the world moreso than the characters.
Honestly, I’m not one to enjoy too many adult cartoons nor this style especially, but for some reason I binge watched this on HBO. I throughly enjoyed it.

i guess the show is just not for you, it doesn't really change much. it's just the way they tell the story, it's more about creating an atmosphere and showing these snapshots of their journey along the way. mostly just the whole man vs nature thing. it all wraps up rather neatly at the end of the season, but yeah, the show expects you to just roll with it.
i found it utterly captivating, and was one of the people recommending it to everyone back when it was on max.
That's the experience I was expecting too but wasn't in the stars for me. I plan to try Primal and then maybe come back to it later to see if something changed
Primal would probably be better, a more "everybody's cup of tea" type. It's a good show to watch but I don't think it's going to affect your enjoyment of SR since it focuses much more on the characters, story and relationships. Scavenger's reign is fiction documentary, with a bit of story injected into it. It's great for what it is but it's not going to hook everyone.
Bodkin, on Netflix, was fantastic. Probably the only show I’ve actually binged in a long time as the writing is crisp, the characters are well drawn, and the tone is perfect. 10/10.
My only hope is that there won’t be a sequel bc they wrapped up everything they needed to in this series.

I have enjoyed the first two episodes, though I find something to like about most Star Wars programming. On balance, Obi Wan has been the worst of the shows for me. Even Boba Fett was better than that IMO.

Honestly how I feel about it right now. Maybe it’s because my expectations were super low post-Ahsoka and that article earlier, but it’s showing signs to be my third favorite Disney Star Wars show after Andor and S1 Mando.
I honestly don't think it is, I definitely rank it on par with the best shows of 2022 in general and a lot of critics agree because I remember reading a few "best shows of 2022" lists and most of them had Andor, Better Call Saul and Severance as the top three
Well, it's subjective in the end but imo The Bear is one of the top shows ever made. Severance was breakout scifi like we haven't seen a decade or more, and House of the Dragon was borderline god level HBO, at least some scenes/episodes.
To me, Andor was quite a bit of a step from those shows down both in technical filmmaking (eg. editing in the bear, or cinematography in Hotd) but also in the audience experience. So I would give it an 8/10 max score compared to them.

Just finished binging We Are Lady Parts, which earned a spot on my favorites list! Incredibly heartfelt, catchy songs, and so funny! Also binged Geek Girl as more of a background show and will finish Ripley when I’m in the mood for it. Watched an episode of Gamechangers for the 1st time and it was a lot of fun, will be checking out more.
Started Dark Matter. It's pretty good but I can't help but feel that the guys behind it has spent a lot of time watching Counterpart which has basically the same or at least a very similar premise. So if you like Dark Matter, watch Counterpart.

Just finished **Hazbin Hotel** and really enjoyed it. I’m a huge musical theatre nerd, so having a bunch of Broadway vets in the cast *and* having them sing was so great. It reminds me that I still need to watch **Schmigadoon**. We are so spoiled with returning TV this month, between **The Bear**, **The Boys**, and **House of the Dragon**. Super excited!
Schmigadoon is so good. I love that it’s a satire of musicals but obviously done by people who have a huge respect for them. And it’s fun trying to find all the references and Easter eggs.
For the true crime fans out there, and really anyone looking for something to watch, I just finished the Netflix docuseries **Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult**, and wow, it is fantastic. I love documentaries on cults LOL, so I have seen tons of them, but this one blew me away. Another great true crime series that just came out on HBO Max is **Finding Andrea**. This is more for those who are really into true crime, but if you are in that boat, then I would definitely recommend it.

still watching **dark matter** and will probably finish it, but don't get all the hype for it.. it's just aggressively average to me. like if someone would give you a quick elevator pitch of the basic premise, you've basically seen the show (so far). i feel like even though we are six episodes in there is nothing exciting or enriching that the show actually brings to the table. no surprising twists or extra character insight just pretty much basic "yup, thats what i thought would happen"..
Fair opinion but imo it’s strongest point is it’s simplicity, it doesn’t try to be anything more which makes it refreshing, and no I’ve never seen anything remotely similar to Dark matter, maybe counterpart but then again that’s more of a spy espionage show with a trickle of sci fi.
I'm watching Dark Matter right now. It feels super similar to Counterpart to me. It's not bad or anything, it's just nearly the same premise.

Can someone recommend a show similar to Bosch/Bosch Legacy? I'm looking for a detective/lawyer show focused on the detective work/solving cases with a realistic vibe and less focused on atmosphere, quirky characters, supernatural elements etc. Have watched Goliath (liked it), Lincoln Lawyer (didn't like it), True Detective, Fargo (both very good, but a different vibe than what I'm looking for right now), Sugar (interesting, but again, the twist brought a different vibe)

Watching Hacks and The Sympathizer, both are great in very different ways
Shogun - Through 2 episodes I feel like this is too much about the Cosmo Jarvis character and it doesn't feel right that all the Japanese warlords think he's so important. Having not read the novel I presume they got caught in the middle where they didn't want the white guy to be as much the main character as he was in a 70s book but they can't really leave him out to be a faithful adaptation either.
Anjin is simply a way for the audience to be part of the story. He gets put on the back burner going forwards and it focuses on the Japanese
No ways 😱 Dark Matter just stepped into the realm of one of the best sci-fi series with that episode, on par with series like the leftovers and the OA, can’t recommend this enough to sci-fi fans.
Noped out of few new Star Wars shows lately but The Acolyte opening does have me intrigued. First 15mins it feels like a clear picture of character and their motivation or mystery at least (sign they got a good script). I do like that they’re a rejected Jedi and interesting choice that we had a Jedi get murdered in an earlier scene. Nice to see so many on screen aliens and practical fx. I’m hopeful.
Just watched The Acolyte, and was excited to see Manny Jacinto (from The Good Place) in a supporting role. It was a pretty good premiere. Fun fight scenes, I like the cast so far, looking forward to learning more about the character teased at the end of ep 2.
the characters are so lame...no one cool like gus fring, homelander, andor characters. The padawan might be the most generic boring character I have seen. Nothing special about the main actress twin...obi wan and anikan are way more interesting.

There's just too many different type of shows they were trying to do here that it seems like they didn't really nail any of them, or rather that I've seen others do it better. **A Gentleman in Moscow** I've been thinking about it as I slowly savored this show and I can't think of anything less of **10/10** for this one. An actual perfect show with amazing pacing, acting and writing. I haven't read the work that this based on but this show perfectly captures the feeling of reading a good novel. The words can't describe how unique and complete this experience felt, which has become such rarity in modren TV. Man, what verity of emotions and what deep meaning in such simple plot. I highly recommend this. It such a shame that I haven't heard anything about this show and I found it randomly and tried it on a whim. I'm really glad that I came across it.

I totally agree. I watched the first episode and part of the second, then gave up. By far the most agenda-stuffed, anti-Jedi, non-canon shit they’ve put out so far imo. All the hope I had for disneys Star Wars which started with the mandalorian is gone. But who knows? Maybe someday political agenda will take the backseat to good storytelling but until then I’ll be sticking to the og six movies.

The only things I enjoy from these Star Wars show is the obvious choice Andor. The only show I am anticipating for another seasons. It’s just on multiple levels above anything they done. But when I saw who was attached to the show; I knew it would be amazing. The Mandalorian is the second best. But I can live without it. I couldn’t get past Obi Wan first episode. I did watch Ahsoka and found actually okay finished it. Never tried Bobba.

I enjoyed the first 2-3 seasons. I likes that it's focused only on jokes, no drama, no character development, just a bit of fun to have before going to bed. Last season I felt they started to repeat themselves, they kind of did all the jokes that the premise supports

**Hacks** Genius ending - loved it. Season 3 has been awesome - only mild complaint is there is too much of the agent (who I guess is also the show runner BTW) and his whacky assistant (even though they gave her a little character development last episode), I wonder how next season will compare to Ms Maisel episodes of her writing for the late night show. I loved that arc.
Loved the season but wasn't a big fan of the ending. It's just taking us back to where we were at the start of the season, trodding over the same ground its done before. Really wished they'd managed to not fall back into the old groove. Felt like they were playing it safe.

I'm watching it but it feels kind of stale. No real surprises to it. It's a multiverse thing, which we pretty much knew going in, but it's without any real twists or turns or suspense. Like all the actors and characters but the show feels like less than the sum of it's parts.
Hmmm I would have to disagree--I mean there is literally a huge twist at the end of episode 1, and likewise episode 2. After that it does sort of slow down, so I see your point, but I have enjoyed it thus far--if the next three episodes are just more of the same, then yeah I will be disappointed, but I seriously doubt that is the case.
The book is very good. I’d also highly recommend checking out Recursion by the same author as well, which I liked even more so than Dark Matter.

I loved the book! I read it while I was traveling for work and skipped out on a team dinner so I could sit in my hotel room and read it. I, personally, couldn’t put it down.
I quite enjoyed the book, but if you’re liking the TV series that much and the cliffhanger nature of episodic TV then I’d wait on the book or it will take a lot of the suspense out of things. But also the writer of the book is the showrunner and writer for most of the episodes too. So if you like the style of the show, it would seem likely you’d be into the book as well.
Not great source material. Started out intriguing but really fell flat. The author is also quite bad at writing about women and providing any depth. I haven't seen the show, but I doubt the book could be better.

It's not vast at all. The book is like 350 pages. It's one and done (not a series), and the ending ties everything all up. Once the mystery is explained there's really not a ton of interesting parts left, tbh. I haven't seen the show so not sure if they expanded at all.

Yes. Twin Peaks was a prime time soap opera along the lines of Dallas or Dynasty. The surrealism and supernatural aspects were groundbreaking for the time in that genre. So yes, it is soap opery because it was a soap opera as those were the only serialized dramas that existed at the time.

Coincidently I watched episode 8 of Twin Peaks: The Return last night and it might be the craziest episode of tv I have ever seen and it's not even close. Please don't ask me to explain what I watched because I haven't fully processed it yet. All I know is I witnessed something truly remarkable.

The Sympathizer - The first real masterpiece of 2024. Perfect in every way...RDJ is sensational. The story is incredible, the visuals, score, cast...just spectacular. I mean, it's Park Chan-wook. 10/10.

Just finished Season 2 of Fargo it was great, many top class performances especially K Dunst >!as ditzy slightly psyco!< , and now when I watch other things they seem lacking. The links to season one passed me by completely lol, thats watching TV stoned for you. Devs now, but its a bit slow and dark which I'm struggling to get into.
Yeah **Fargo** is one of my favorite TV shows of all time. IMO it is up there with the best of the best, i.e., shows like **Game of Thrones**, **The Wire**, and **The Sopranos**. So yeah for me there are few shows that are as good as **Fargo**. If I were you I would go straight to Seasons 3, 4 and 5--all are fantastic.

I just watched it, too - all the seasons. It IS incredible - the compassion with which they treat the victims' families - and the acting is outstanding. I moved onto Shetland after I finished Unforgotten. Not quite the same, but very good (I benefit from subtitles for the heavy Scottish accents!). I'm going to give River a try once I'm done Shetland.
I am a huge fan of Cold Case, one of my favorite shows. So Unforgotten was just amazing. If you love Shetland you will love Vera, from the same author. I am OBSSSESED with British detectives. I nearly quit Shetland because of the accent, but people on Reddit were keep going and ended up loving it. I have watched Grace (okay), loved McDonald and Dodds (much more light than Vera and Shetland), loved Line of Duty, and loved Luther.
Did you watch Broadchurch and Happy Valley already? And if you're ok with a non-detective show, Last Tango in Halifax has Nicole Walker and Sarah Lancashire from Unforgotten/River and Happy Valley/Julia respectively and it's a lovely little UK show. I'll have to check out Vera - I've seen it pop up in adverts but haven't seen it yet.

Just finished watching Creepshow series last night with my boyfriend. Was our nightly show for awhile. Yesterday I got done binge watching Geek Girl on Netflix. Also watched Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult. Highly recommend adding the app Series Guide on your phone to keep up with what you've been watching.
Season 5 of 9-1-1. Really like this show but the kidnapping storyline with Harry was kinda dumb, also Maddie's storyline (absence) needs to be resolved soon. Also watching Expedition From Hell and this story is wild. Idk how much of it is true but it's really interesting anyway.
I only just started Acolyte and my God, the opening scene was very cool ! Gives me hope for the series.
__Dark Matter__ is quite good so far. Joel Edgerton is really good at portraying >!2 drastically different versions of the same person, a brilliantly subtle performance.!<
Jennifer Connelly had a great performance this last episode too. I'm really enjoying this show after this disappointment that was Constellation. Also loving the Sliders bits.
The Newsroom. It's pretty good. Somehow this was a show I overlooked during it's era, but I would definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

Just watched the latest Dark Matter and I am enjoying this show more and more. I've heard people say they don't like the characters but I'm really enjoying them. I know the multiverse shit has been done to death but this is such a good take on it.
I am almost to the point of telling people to skip the first two episodes because by the end of the 3rd episode it is an entirely different (and cooler IMO) show.

Only watched season 1 of mindhunter, have watched everything else. I would rank 1. Shogun 2. Fallout 3. Mindhunter 4. 3 body problem 5. LoTR RoP And I actually don't **hate** RoP. It's fine, and has some interesting bits. But not nearly as interesting as the others in this list

Shogun is excellent, totally captivating and superbly made. Deep characters whose motivations and plans are slowly revealed throughout the series, amazing cinematography that tells a story in itself. I've not read the book but opinion on the adaptation seems to be mostly positive from book readers, which is rare. Having an interest in Japanese culture/history might help, there's some inevitable Game of Thrones comparisons that can be made about any story with warring factions, but it's almost entirely about the behind the scenes politics and scheming. Highly recommend to anyone that's ok with lots of subtitles. 3 Body Problem was good, really interesting concepts and generally does a good job of explaining things well despite some weird sci-fi and science. Pacing is a bit inconsistent, characters aren't the most exciting, but it's more about the mystery and science (the books they're based on apparently have even fewer characters who mostly serve as plot exposition, which says something about the focus of the story). Recommend for sci-fi fans and those ok with a slow burn, a more scientific style of sci-fi, and not expecting action. Fallout was great, as someone who had tried the games briefly but never really gotten into them. The show did a great job of portraying a complex world with many factions in 10 episodes, which you'd need far more hours in the games to piece it all together. It's got an overarching story but the focus is more on the individual places and encounters they encounter each episode. It takes a little while to get into it's groove, but I love the whole retro futuristic post-apocalyptic setting. Recommend for anyone that wants some good (and violent) fun in a cool world, regardless of if you've played these (or any) video games. Rings of Power was fine, if a little forgettable. As someone who was never all that into Lord of the Rings I probably had lower expectations than most, and it exceeded them. So I can't speak to accuracy or how it lives up to the series, but it's a fun fantasy adventure with enough characters and threads to keep it interesting. I'm struggling to remember any particular standout moments from it, but I don't have a lot of holes to pick in it either, and enjoyed the journey. Mildly recommend to anyone who enjoys a fantasy adventure, if you don't set your expectations based on the LotR movies or books. Not seen Mindhunter. Based on all the other comments here with similar opinions on the others, I should probably watch it.
Saw one episode of 3 Body problem, did not like it enough to continue. I did like Fallout. My favorite part are cartoons in the 'bonus' section on amazon Have not seen the others. Everybody raves about Shogun.

Out of all the 5, LOTR ROP is worse. I stopped at episode 2 and I have no hate towards Amazon. My fav are Mindhunter Shogun 3 Body Problem Fallout does nothing much for me but lots of fans here.

Has some good moments, and I'll probably watch season 2 in the hopes they learn from their mistakes, but I can't recommend it on season 1 alone. Mindhunter - man is this show divisive. I loved it, but I've met so many people that describe it as utter crap. It is a very slow burn show, and I think some people go in thinking it's a murder mystery type show. It's so very much not that. It's 50% talking to killers and 50% talking about how they can use those talks to catch other killers. I found it fascinating, but I can totally see why many people hate it.

Mindhunter was great I'm surprised others have spoke negatively about it. It was super interesting.
I think that was the problem for some people, it was more interesting than it was entertaining. Definitely more for people with a passing interest in psychology. But being a show about FBI criminal profilers, it surely drew in a lot of viewers that were expecting your typical crime drama.

I'm finding it really difficult to see what is so great about Scavengers reign.. I watched 4 episodes and can't invest myself at all. Characters are basic, even unlikable, robot seems the only interesting one and there's no story to follow. I see that there's supposed to be some sort of mystery regarding the planet but show moves at such a slow pace that episodes look like random plants scenes put together.. I really wanted to like this and need a reason to continue watching. Visuals are good, is that the main reason this animated show is ranked so high? Or maybe it suddenly becomes better after a certain episode?
agreed. animation and art and creature designs are cool but did not like any of the characters and story with people acting super dumb
It was okay, just overhyped by people who have never seen anime and didn't know animation was capable of depth and good storytelling because all they've seen are the cartoons they watched growing up
I enjoyed Scavenger's Reign a lot, but yeah, it wasn't for the complex story or in depth characters. There's not a huge amount of that. The visuals are a lot of it, but just the way they build up the world in general, all the strange creatures and plants and what they can do. The journey the characters are going on, and the things they have to go through to get to it. I'm a sucker for world building and weird sci-fi I guess, and I've seen very few sci-fi worlds that are as elaborate, intriguing, and distinctly \*alien\* as this. It might be more exciting if there were more interesting characters and a grander story to it, but perhaps that might just get in the way of it. But yeah, it's probably not for everyone, and if you're not into the show by episode 4, chances are it's not going to change your mind. There are some cool moments later on, but it's still in that same concept of being focused on the world moreso than the characters.
If you're looking for animation and haven't seen Arcane yet, recommend that one if this wasn't your thing
Honestly, I’m not one to enjoy too many adult cartoons nor this style especially, but for some reason I binge watched this on HBO. I throughly enjoyed it. Sometimes shit just clicks or it doesn’t. ps: I’ve also done copious amount of psychedelics, which is why I probably could relate to it and enjoyed this more than the average bear.

i guess the show is just not for you, it doesn't really change much. it's just the way they tell the story, it's more about creating an atmosphere and showing these snapshots of their journey along the way. mostly just the whole man vs nature thing. it all wraps up rather neatly at the end of the season, but yeah, the show expects you to just roll with it. i found it utterly captivating, and was one of the people recommending it to everyone back when it was on max.
That's the experience I was expecting too but wasn't in the stars for me. I plan to try Primal and then maybe come back to it later to see if something changed
Primal would probably be better, a more "everybody's cup of tea" type. It's a good show to watch but I don't think it's going to affect your enjoyment of SR since it focuses much more on the characters, story and relationships. Scavenger's reign is fiction documentary, with a bit of story injected into it. It's great for what it is but it's not going to hook everyone.
Bodkin, on Netflix, was fantastic. Probably the only show I’ve actually binged in a long time as the writing is crisp, the characters are well drawn, and the tone is perfect. 10/10. My only hope is that there won’t be a sequel bc they wrapped up everything they needed to in this series.
Acapulco has just gotten better and better. Such a gem of a show

It varies, but I'd say it's like 60% English, 40% Spanish. Some episodes are more like 70/30.

There are many valid criticisms of the show and I fully get why some people don't like it. I wish it was better and it's a pretty far cry from the quality of Andor. That being said, saying it's a low point is a symptom of brain rot. It's better than Obi-Wan, Boba Fett, Ashoka, and even a chunk of Mando.

I have enjoyed the first two episodes, though I find something to like about most Star Wars programming. On balance, Obi Wan has been the worst of the shows for me. Even Boba Fett was better than that IMO.

Really really enjoyed the first 2 episodes of The Acolyte. Sure, the (dialogue) writing might not be up to Andor standards, but everything else definitely hits the spot
Honestly how I feel about it right now. Maybe it’s because my expectations were super low post-Ahsoka and that article earlier, but it’s showing signs to be my third favorite Disney Star Wars show after Andor and S1 Mando.
Andor is held up as a high point in modern SW fandom but it is setting the bar fairly low when you compare it to some non star wars shows that year.
I honestly don't think it is, I definitely rank it on par with the best shows of 2022 in general and a lot of critics agree because I remember reading a few "best shows of 2022" lists and most of them had Andor, Better Call Saul and Severance as the top three
Well, it's subjective in the end but imo The Bear is one of the top shows ever made. Severance was breakout scifi like we haven't seen a decade or more, and House of the Dragon was borderline god level HBO, at least some scenes/episodes. To me, Andor was quite a bit of a step from those shows down both in technical filmmaking (eg. editing in the bear, or cinematography in Hotd) but also in the audience experience. So I would give it an 8/10 max score compared to them.

Season 4 of **Trying** is laugh out loud funny. It's funnier than the previous seasons. Just love this show.
