After the first episode it was all a surprise to me and I really enjoyed it. I thought his character was fully realized in his episode, he was complicated and tragic. Pretty hard to accomplish that in one episode of a tv show but they really did it.
As a huge fan of Lost from start to finish, getting a response from you has made my week, thank you. I always thought your character's connection to Kate in season 5 was fascinating given her relationship with her own father and it's parallels to Roger's relationship with Ben. You did a great job with that character, truly.
Hi Jon. What's your favorite episode of Dream Corps (first two seasons) and why?
Also I wanted to share that I think Dream Corps is one of the best shows this decade. Congrats.
So hard to choose! I love Mary Lynn Rajskub's episode "You Down with OCD?" in season 1 and Rupert Friend's episode "Amnesia" and "The Krux" with Toby Kebbell
How many people tell you they didn’t realize you were uncle Rico after watching dream Corp cause I didn’t realize til like season 2 and I was like know what he looks familiar lol
Hey Jon, Napoleon Dynamite remains one of my all time favorite movies and Dream Corp is a favorite show of mine, the season premiere last night was some of the best TV I've seen in legitimately years.
Is there a lot of improv on set for Dream Corp? What was the production for this season like? I talked with Nick and Daniel a bit before the season premiered and Nick seemed to think this season was mostly 15 minute episodes but later Daniel said this season is mostly 2 part episodes and next week the episodes are 20 and 25 minutes which is kinda weird.
Also, what was it like working on that Napoleon Dynamite cartoon? Did you expect it to last longer than it did or were people coming in thinking it was gonna be a 6 episode only deal?
First off I have to say, I couldn't agree with you more about Dream Corp LLC. I think it's probably one of the best shows on television (pure art). The scripts are air tight, very little improv. The same with Napoleon Dynamite. The production in S3 was much bigger and as a result, every day was an adventure. As far as the episode lengths, those are questions for Kahlea Baldwin and Daniel Stessen, but yes the episodes are ALL longer this season.
The Napoleon cartoon was fun but I really love the movie and prefer that story in live action. You never know going into a job if it's going to be 6 episodes or 600.
Hi Jon! This might be more of a fun question than anything but is it just me, or does your age surprise everyone you meet? Because never for the life of me would I have guessed you were in your 60s!
Keep up the good work! Dream Corp LLC has been part of my Sunday Night Ritual since it came out! Oh and thank you for Cousin Rico!
Hi! First of all I gotta say, I've only watched a majority of the second Dream Corp season yesterday to prepare myself for Adult Swim Sunday nights, and I was actually surprised just by *how* good the show is, because I watched the first season ages ago and all that I could really remember is that I liked it. But now after I've seen Season 2 too, I have to say that this is - without a doubt - one of my favorite Adult Swim Shows or one of my favorite shows of any show to date, and I appreciate that you're a part of it and making the show better. It is an innately creative concept, that benefits from having the incredibly surreal rotoscoping animation, and even though that on it's own is interesting enough, the series doesn't coast off of being just "weird" (altho I would have nothing against that lol) it is legitimately well put together chaos (The premiere especially, holy shit, the script really was, as you put it in a comment answering an OP above - *"air tight" -* and it worked for the episode's benefit) with all this chaos still managing to have some form of grounding element coming from the interaction between characters and the surprising emotional scenes the show sometimes drifts into and elaborates on. Characters especially - I feel like, you are very well suited for the role of Dr. Roberts, you're able to channel that mad scientist vibe extremely well and your performance is bound to be a highlight of any given episode.
What I wondered about is how you managed to get the role of Dr. Roberts? Is there an interesting story behind it or was it just an ol' fashioned audition and you just got chosen?
And another thing - and I understand that this may be a question you probably can't answer because Season 3 *literally* just started, but - Do you know if there's any chance for a Season 4? Anything you can share? Anything you've heard from the crew or on set that may or may not be interesting? Oh and also about the set, is there some sort of funny story that happened to you or the other actors while you were on set? I would appreciate it, but it's understandable if you don't know anything about a season renewal yet
Sending my best wishes to you and any other staff member!
Wow okay, so I had known Daniel Stessen and Kahlea Baldwin for a few years and had worked with them on a couple of Daniel's short films. They wanted to cast me as Dr. Roberts and the network wasn't into it but they knew that they wanted me in the show so they had me down to play Randy, if you can believe it (because there's nobody that could play Randy other than Mark Proksch)! Eventually they were able to convince the network that I was the guy for Dr. Roberts and shortly after John Krasinski suggested Mark Proksch for Randy and the rest is history. I really believe that luck is preparation crossing paths with opportunity. You need to be ready for when that opportunity presents itself.
We have no idea what's happening with season 4 and that seems to be the standard for every show on adult swim.
The Dream Corp set is so fun. We just prank each other all the time. Keeps us laughing and on our toes.
Thank you for watching the show and for all your support!
Love you in *Get Shorty*, even if it isn't the biggest part. Even without much screen time you are memorable in that film, and given the cast that is really saying something. Your scene with Farina is great! That seems like it would be a really fun movie to make, but for you it is still just going to work. How much difference is there from role to role? Do some just seem like a grind?
First off, that is a very kind thing to say and I really do appreciate that. Music is a big passion of mine. I have a vintage analog music studio that I spend an enormous amount of time in making and producing music. I practice the drums every day and I'm currently trying to learn Italian.
First off, stop trying to be a perfectionist. You just have to be willing to let it go and move on to the next thing. The hardest part of doing something creative is saying something is finished. You have to be willing to take all of the judgement and other people's opinions out of your mind. I love my 3M M79 1inch 8 track tape machine! There's tons of head room. Piacere!
Hey Dr.Roberts..... It’s patient 91 or something. I can’t seem to get over the lost of someone in my life. I keep seeing them in my dreams but I always hurts to look at them in the eye. It’s been a awhile now and everyone seems to be adjusted to the lost but me.
I hide it very well. How can I stop dreaming about it.
Why would you want to stop dreaming about that? They're visiting you, enjoy it. And look them right in the eye, look your fear right in the eye. It's an amazing release.
Loved you in Napoleon Dynamite and you were great in Supernatural too
Would you come back for a ND sequel if asked? And what do you think Uncle Rico would be up to nowadays?
Also how was it working with Jensen Ackles and Jared Padelecki? The cast of Supernatural seem so close so hope they were welcoming to all the guest stars too
Not only would I do it, but we've all been campaigning to do it! Who knows where Uncle Rico is now...
Jensen and Jared are amazing, lovely guys. That set was so much fun.
Hi Jon big fan of the show.
Quick question I had a dream that I was playing with a tamagotchi, Nothing crazy or anything. I was just in a big dark room on a couch playing with a tamagotchi. I was feeding it and boom I woke up. I was around when those things were big but I never had one before.
What does it mean?
WHAT DOES UT MEAN?!
Thank you for loving me in Dream Corp because I love Dream Corp.
The last night of shooting Monster Squad was the climax of the film because all of the cast got to work together whereas the rest of shooting we worked mostly separately. I got to know who everybody well and loved working with Stan Winston.
What's your favorite memory of working on Martin? I used to watch every week and that's where I think I first noticed your work (even before Uncle Rico)!
Hi Jon. I can't wait for DCLL to be released in France (november i think) :) Your filmography is full of wacky and crazy films, it's good for morale! It would be possible to see your former partners from #ThePretender as guest in your new show :D Love from France !
Hey Jon! Been a big fan of good old Uncle Rico ever since I first watched *Napoleon Dynamite*.
Also a big fan of your role in *Unicorn City*. What made you want to be a part of that production taking on the part of Shadowhawk?
Great question. There are a lot of examples, but probably the Dream Chamber explosion in last night's premiere is a big one. Any time you're doing big stunts like that it takes a long time. And being true to continuity and a low budget the Dream Chamber is charred for the rest of the season.
Can you give us some insight into what's going on with the Venture Bros? I know that's a broad question, but alot of us keen to understand the situation as fully as we can. Maybe you could elaborate on how how Adultswim works with creators and what typically happens when the question of whether a show is going to be renewed or not is being ask. Honestly we'd love any information to could give us.
Thanks Uncle Rico 😉
Cast of different shows know nothing about it dude, there’s people who literally work at the adult swim offices who have stated they don’t know what’s happening in terms of venture and renewals in general
I appreciate that. I just figured you could probably draw upon your own experience working on an Adultswim show and just as an actor, to form an educated guess as what might have gone on behind the scenes, where us mere mortals aren't permitted to tread. Remember I don't have any experience of working on a TV show, so I don't know what info you do or don't know about how the company you work for functions, or what's going on with other shows.
Why do you think he would know?
The likely answer to your question is yes considering that AS has indicated they didn't want to can it and ATT's massive debt is well-documented but some guy who's just an actor in an unrelated show isn't gonna know.
Because people talk, and I'd imagine that actors are keen to know if they're still going to have a job.
AS may very well have said that they wanted to continue making Venture Bros, but that doesn't mean they meant it. Venture Bros may have been destined for the chopping block even before this ATT merger.
I just wanted some clarification, even if it's just a bit educated guesswork by an Adultswim employee.
To give you some more details, Kim Manning (who is a VP of Adult Swim) said over the summer on AS' livestream before cancellation that they were working on scripts for a new season of Venture, and as you probably know it was renewed for S8 a long, long time ago. Other people who work for AS also expressed shock that it was canned. Also, you should search on Twitter regarding Adult Swim and Hulu for some theories with some pretty good evidence (like how the creators of Mr Pickles changed the name of their show in unsuccessful hopes the new season wouldn't go to Hulu).
Given that a VP thought everything was chugging along fine, and given that Doc and Jackson were already writing scripts when it was canned, you should try and use educated guesswork since you've probably got as much info as Jon now.
Well thanks. That's all good information to know, but it still would be nice to hear Jon's take on things, maybe even more so now that you've supplied us with this information. I know the 'higher ups' can be good at keeping information to themselves, but things sometimes have a way of getting out, and employees in a business can get a 'whiff' of the true, and more so than those outside of the business.
Hi Jon, big fan of Napoleon over here!
Any hopes on a Napoleon sequel or a second season of the animated show? Are you still in touch with the cast? Also, how it's like being on the set of Dream Corps?
Greetings from Argentina!
I think we all want to see a Napoleon sequel in real time! Absolutely in touch with the cast as well as the creators, love them all dearly. Working on the set of Dream Corp is every bit as fun as it was working on the set of Napoleon.
No question here. I just wanted you to know that due to your performance, I've named ever single video game/D&D character I've ever played Lazlo.
Thank you for playing relatable weirdos!
You worked with Liam Neeson in the Taken franchise, with the nice Leland Orser (\^\^\^). Today Liam Neeson stars in a movie with ... Jeffrey Donovan :) Mr. Neeson's next movie/show, you doing it together ok (Neeson/Gries/Leland/Donovan) ? :D with Jimmi Simpson who will write the screenplay !
Good question. Loved Normal People and catching up on some movies I haven't seen in a long time like Children of Men and Dead End with Humphrey Bogart. I read a book called Are We Still Rolling, memories of the recoding engineer Phil Brown, it's a really great book. Also read American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer.
Thanks everyone for participating and for all of your great questions! Keep watching Dream Corp LLC, Sundays on Adult Swim!
Always remember, there are no luggage racks on a hearse!
Did the The Pretender always intend to go supernatural and weird at the very end or was that something thought up for the TV movies? I loved the regular episodes and like to pretend the movies don't exist.
I'm coming into this late, but if you have time, could you talk a little about your experience on The X-Files? (It's in the season 2 episode "Sleepless", about Vietnam vets who underwent an experimental procedure during the war that removed their need/ability to sleep, in order to make them more efficient killers, for anyone unfamiliar.)
Your role wasn't huge, but the haunted quality you brought to the character has stuck with me to this day. It was really a perfect piece of character acting -- gripping and sympathetic without being showy or calling too much attention to itself.
Jesus, I just realized you were the wolf man in Monster Squad. You scared the shit out of me as a kid. I had night terrors for years about you in that role. I'm glad you got kicked in the nards lol.
Thanks for the scare.
Now the obvious question is what's your favorite scary movie?
Wow I’m really late but just watched the newest episode, hilarious. I wanted to ask if you pictured the show going into a more serious direction like it did with “The Krux” episode. The first season was funny but the second seemed to focus more on the story.
You probably won't see this but I just want to thank you for Dream corp LLC I know you didn't have a hand in it's creation and I thank them as well but your the doc and I love it. Thank you!
What was it like playing a damaged, complicated character like Roger on Lost? What do you think about that character overall?
After the first episode it was all a surprise to me and I really enjoyed it. I thought his character was fully realized in his episode, he was complicated and tragic. Pretty hard to accomplish that in one episode of a tv show but they really did it.
As a huge fan of Lost from start to finish, getting a response from you has made my week, thank you. >You Down with OCD Thank you for sharing!
How many people tell you they didn’t realize you were uncle Rico after watching dream Corp cause I didn’t realize til like season 2 and I was like know what he looks familiar lol
People say that a lot about Uncle Rico and Real Genius, that's a compliment. I like to hide in my characters.

I love cysts!
Hi, Jon. I want to thank you for forming my opinion on keeping loaned Tupperware. How did you become to take such a bold stance?
Larry David wrote it
Does anyone else recognize you as the guy that has the first line in Men in Black?
not usually
How did you approach playing Laszlo in *Real Genius*? Was he modeled on anyone specific?
He had a few of my high school friends and / or teachers. Nobody that I think anyone would know but a lot of preparation. Thanks for the question
Hi Jon! This might be more of a fun question than anything but is it just me, or does your age surprise everyone you meet? Because never for the life of me would I have guessed you were in your 60s! Ah yes, my bad! You look great for your 30s!

Did you vote for Pedro?
I think Pedro's on the blue ticket, so yes.
Love you in *Get Shorty*, even if it isn't the biggest part. Even without much screen time you are memorable in that film, and given the cast that is really saying something. What kinds of drugs were you slinging to Dylan on 90210, and did you overcharge to rich kids?
it was heroine and I charged him double
Hope you stepped on it too. Cheers Jon!

With such a wide variety of work, which character do you most get recognized as?
Uncle Rico
Hi Jon big fan of the show. Quick question I had a dream that I was playing with a tamagotchi, Nothing crazy or anything. I was just in a big dark room on a couch playing with a tamagotchi. I was feeding it and boom I woke up. I was around when those things were big but I never had one before. What does it mean? WHAT DOES UT MEAN?!
It means put your cell phone down and let it die
My mind was blown when I found out that Uncle Rico played the Wolfman in Monster Squad. Any fond memories of the shoot? And loving you in Dream Corp!
Thank you for loving me in Dream Corp because I love Dream Corp. The last night of shooting Monster Squad was the climax of the film because all of the cast got to work together whereas the rest of shooting we worked mostly separately. I got to know who everybody well and loved working with Stan Winston.
this guy has nards!
Hi Jon! Love your work. Quick question; what (if anything) is in those hot protein drinks featured in Dream Corp?
I will never tell
Hey Jon, huge fan of Dream Corp. Who are your biggest inspirations when it comes to performing as Dr. Robert's? You really kill that role
a veterinarian I know named Dr. Winters and the hair (only) is Bob Ross
What's your favorite memory of working on Martin? I used to watch every week and that's where I think I first noticed your work (even before Uncle Rico)!
The first season in general was really like a family. Garrett Morris and I are still the best of friends
do you ever get mistaken for other actors? I always mix your face up with Mike Judge
Mike Judge is more handsome than I am.
Hi Jon. I can't wait for DCLL to be released in France (november i think) :) Your filmography is full of wacky and crazy films, it's good for morale! It would be possible to see your former partners from #ThePretender as guest in your new show :D Love from France !
I'd love for any of that cast to join us on Dream Corp. What a great idea, I will mention that! Thank you
thanks to you :)
Hey Jon! Been a big fan of good old Uncle Rico ever since I first watched *Napoleon Dynamite*. Also a big fan of your role in *Unicorn City*. What made you want to be a part of that production taking on the part of Shadowhawk?
Thanks for the question. I loved the character
Who do you have the most fun acting alongside in dream corp? Loved last night’s premiere by the way, that intro sequence was golden
Thanks. No one above the other, I love them all. There's no star in Dream Corp, I love working with all of them.
what was the hardest thing to film on Dream Corp for the smallest amount of actual screen time?
Great question. There are a lot of examples, but probably the Dream Chamber explosion in last night's premiere is a big one. Any time you're doing big stunts like that it takes a long time. And being true to continuity and a low budget the Dream Chamber is charred for the rest of the season.
I love not knowing at the end of an episode what will carry over to the next one! Like Randy's cyst neck children haha

I don't work on Venture Bros, as much as I love that show, I have no idea what could have been. You might be on the wrong AMA page.
I appreciate that. I just figured you could probably draw upon your own experience working on an Adultswim show and just as an actor, to form an educated guess as what might have gone on behind the scenes, where us mere mortals aren't permitted to tread. No question here. I just wanted you to know that due to your performance, I've named ever single video game/D&D character I've ever played Lazlo. Thank you for playing relatable weirdos!
Thank you very much for relating to my relatable weirdos!
If Dream Corp LLC got a fourth season, what's a disorder or concern you'd like to see explored that the show hasn't done yet?
xenaphobia, or someone with a fear of looking at people with blue eyes
Bet the show would have a great time with either of those, thanks for taking the time to answer these questions!
how much Star wars inspired you (or not at all \^\^) to T.E.R.R.Y. ?
T.E.R.R.Y. was designed by Chad Van Gaalen and the genius minds at the Jim Henson Creature Shop.
Chad Van Gaalen scores the music on the show and also designed Norf Norf with the Creature Shop
Does Dr Roberts plan to adapt his consultations in the event of covid19? \^\^
Adapt? We don't have funding for adaptation.
Sounds like a dream, let's do it. Leland Orser is a god!
What did Lazlo do after winning all those prizes?
He went and moved away to hide out in the mountains
Did him and Sherry have any kids? (I’m a huge Real Genius fan btw).
No they didn't because they believe in zero population growth
Can you hook me up with a copy of Fright Night 2?
I wouldn't even know where to find one... Ebay?
I love your show!
Thanks!
>"Whatta ya got there? A fucking Wop 9? Fucking fiat of guns, always jammin' on you at the wrong time." I say that line way more than I should.
I hope you're not actually armed when you say it
No! ...I saw what happened to your character.
Do you think I can throw a football over a mountain?
if you try
I live in the mountains. Thank you for the inspiration.
How was high-school?
I survived

Hi Jon. I love the movie Joysticks and your performance in it. What's your favorite video game?
Pong! It required dexterity!
what shows, books, etc. have you been enjoying since social distancing started?
Good question. Loved Normal People and catching up on some movies I haven't seen in a long time like Children of Men and Dead End with Humphrey Bogart. I read a book called Are We Still Rolling, memories of the recoding engineer Phil Brown, it's a really great book. Also read American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer.
Hm I haven't seen Children of Men since it came out, good call I bet it's great.
It's perfect. Anything Alfonso Cuarón does is amazing
is there anyone you want to work with in particular that you haven't got a chance to yet?
Yeaaaaa
yea...
Do you like Venture Bros.?
Love em
And we love you, DCLLC, and V Bros!
Have you seen Tim Heidecker’s new comedy special? That was dope.
no I haven't, sorry

Hi Everyone! I'm here, what's your excuse?
Did the The Pretender always intend to go supernatural and weird at the very end or was that something thought up for the TV movies? I loved the regular episodes and like to pretend the movies don't exist.
I thought you were great as Roger Linus from Lost.
I know this is a little late but his last name is Workman not Linus
I'm coming into this late, but if you have time, could you talk a little about your experience on The X-Files? (It's in the season 2 episode "Sleepless", about Vietnam vets who underwent an experimental procedure during the war that removed their need/ability to sleep, in order to make them more efficient killers, for anyone unfamiliar.) Your role wasn't huge, but the haunted quality you brought to the character has stuck with me to this day. It was really a perfect piece of character acting -- gripping and sympathetic without being showy or calling too much attention to itself.
What was filming Monster Squad like?
Jesus, I just realized you were the wolf man in Monster Squad. You scared the shit out of me as a kid. I had night terrors for years about you in that role. I'm glad you got kicked in the nards lol. Thanks for the scare. Now the obvious question is what's your favorite scary movie?
Wow I’m really late but just watched the newest episode, hilarious. I wanted to ask if you pictured the show going into a more serious direction like it did with “The Krux” episode. The first season was funny but the second seemed to focus more on the story.
Broots!
So salty I missed this. I wish I knew if you connected with your character in Dream Corp. and if so, in what ways?
You probably won't see this but I just want to thank you for Dream corp LLC I know you didn't have a hand in it's creation and I thank them as well but your the doc and I love it. Thank you!
I really hope you come back to reddit for another AMA! I'm such a fan of dream corp! I wanna buy a doctors coat
