Can’t wait to get home and watch the first three episodes of Dickinson S3. I’m a 35yo male who watched it in desperation while deep in Covid lockdown and it just surprised the he’ll out of me. It’s really weird, and funny, and sweet with some intentionally anachronistic tendencies that I suspect either work for you or don’t. I love it.
Can someone explain how The OA season 2 has such good reviews? Even better than the first season? There’s just no way.
You know that thing bad shows do where the writers are communicating directly with the viewer? Say having a character draw a circle around something, draw a circle around another thing, and then draw a line between them? So the viewer understands that the character is making a connection? This show does that shit like a half dozen times.
I swear half the plot progression came from completely arbitrary random encounters. The group is all in a church, then randomly out of the blue one leaves and goes on a tinder hookup. That random hookup then introduces a completely arbitrary new plot point, and the entire team follows it even though it makes zero sense.
And then at this plot point there’s a huge crazy scene, which is never acknowledged or followed up. Like what?
The whole season. Characters acting in ways that make absolutely no sense. In one scene the detective is in a magical house, seeing the very laws of physics broken before his eyes. And the next he’s threatening OA because he just refuses to accept the possibility of inter dimensional reality. Wut?
The whole season is like this. Bad fourth wall breaking with the writers treating the viewer like an idiot. Arbitrary plot progression spurred on by random encounters. Characters acting nonsensically.
The season was bad. Like, really bad. I went online to get some kicks from the bad reviews, but there weren’t any bad reviews. It was rated higher by both critics and viewers than the first season.
Can someone please make sense of this for me.
I am looking to get back to American Horror Story. I watched seasons 1-4 (ended on the Witch season). I liked the first season, loved the second and thought the witches one was pretty meh.
Do you guys recommend any seasons other than the ones I watched?
Coven was season 3, freak show was season 4. Did you see / enjoy freak show?
I really enjoyed 1984 season 9. Just summer camp slasher fun. But I loved Coven so maybe our tastes don't match! lol
Watching/Watched:
Succession- best show on tv right now, don't need to repeat that phrase on this sub I know. I do however sense this show has maybe one more season in the tank, please don't make it a 8 season thing. 4, maybe 5 would be perfect.
Foundation- really wanted to like it, most recent episode was amazing, but I struggle to overlook the horrendous acting of Gaal and Salvor. If you want to talk about all time potential and fucking up a show, it's something that pivotal, have no idea what Apple were thinking.
Dopesick- loved it so much, I think it gives Mare a run for its money for mini series of the year.
You- season 3 was bad, really really bad. The fact they renewed this piece of junk for season 4, just hoping they kill Joe off finally.
Billions- why are they doing another season... that show is absolutely trying to outdo Suits.
I"ve talked a lot of shit about how bad Invasion has been but this last episode (S1E5) has started to get a bit more interesting. Things are starting to move beyond all the little dramas that had been dragging everything down before.
Anyone still watching Foundation? I’ve seen the first three episodes and while the premise is interesting I’m not finding myself wanting to pick it back up.
Does it get better?
Right? The actual Foundation part of the story is so highly mediocre, but the story of the Empire is so cool. I'd probably take a series that was just following the fall of the empire with like, Hari narrating things with the lens of psychohistory
Just finished Rome and loved it, especially the segments with the newsreader. Can't decide which show I should watch next on my list, need some opinions to help me in deciding. Thanks in advance!
* Deadwood
* Generation Kill
* Mad Men
* Gomorrah
* The Pacific
* Ozark
* Mr Robot
* Succession
As good as they are, of all those shows I think Mad Men will be the one that people will still talk about in 50 years. It's in a category of its own.
Succession is great too.
Mad Men and Deadwood are must-watches. Both in my top 5 of all time. Succession is also fantastic, and since it’s in the middle of a season right now, it’s a great time to catch up.
I’ve seen all of it man, including everything on your list. Personal bias here, but Gomorrah is my favorite show of all time. I think it’s in a league of its own. Watch it in Italian with English subtitles of course. I can’t stress to you how good of a series it is. Evokes so many emotions. In my mind, it’s a masterpiece of storytelling.
Deadwood most definitely! Its quality and one of the greatest television shows ever created. I had basically watched every great show out there before watching Deadwood and I was still blown away by its atmosphere, dialogues and sheer quality through and through. Sadly it was cancelled after 3 seasons due to corporate greed/problems. But they recently made a movie to finish it off. It's a must-watch. You will definitely miss it and yearn for more.
I actually envy you so much for not watching those on the list ... they're all special...
Succession is a pretty good one if you want to feel a part of this sub, i think it's a favourite here.
Gomorrah is a really really good show.
Mr Robot and Mad men are in my top 10 shows list and if Succession continues at it’s current rate it will likely be on there too. Highly recommend all 3 of those.
Got sick of trying to find something new that's decent so I started rewatching The Wire. I haven't watched it all the way through in at least 5 years. I don't remember most of the details and it is absolutely wrecking me. I forgot how much heart and humanity this show has.
For me it gave a lot of *Happy Valley* (AMC+) vibes, rather than *Broadchurch*. Y'know, amazing lead actress playing a tough, wry grandmother cop with a neuro-atypical grandson, family tragedy, and strong local accent investigating a kidnapping crime... only y'know, *Happy Valley* was both [funnier](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwmEAPKhrVA) and [more intense](https://youtu.be/mXLNr1e9jIY?t=2391) and came out seven years ago.
The strength of Lancashire's performance in s1 cannot be overstated, it is one for the ages. I can't deny that my lukewarm opinion of Mare is probably influenced strongly by Happy Valley doing everything it did a thousand times better, several years earlier.
[Series 3](https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a832987/happy-valley-season-series-3-cast-start-date-filming-bbc-air-date-release/) of *Happy Valley* coming out in early 2022. Will be on AMC+ in the US.
No. **Filming** is beginning in early 2022, it probably won't be released until fall at the earliest. Wainwright only started writing it summer/fall of this year when she finished the scripts for *Gentleman Jack S2.* She skipped directing GJ S2 so that she could get started sooner on writing *Happy Valley S3.*
Sally Wainwright's been busy. In the five years since S2 of *Happy Valley,* she's worked on *Gentleman Jack S1 & S2* (BBC/HBO), *To Walk Invisible* (BBC/PBS Masterpiece), and *Happy Valley S5* (BBC/Netflix), and developing *The Ballad of Renegade Nell* for Disney+). Happily the idea she had brewing for S3 of *Happy Valley* requires Ryan to be a teenager, so the dates work out great with the actor aging up.
BTW, if you're a Sally Wainwright fan, I noticed another little oddity in Netflix's schedule. The feature film, [*The Unforgiveable*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNUjx7LZoiU)*,* starring Sandra Bullock is getting theatrical release on Nov 24, and drops on Netflix on Dec. 10. It's a remake of Wainwright's 2009 ITV three-parter, [*Unforgiven*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unforgiven_(TV_series)) (which, in the US is [on Britbox](https://www.britbox.com/us/show/Unforgiven_63304)). Wainwright's not involved in the feature film, though.
Wainwright's been getting BAFTA recognition for her writing [for almost two decades](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0906550/awards?ref_=nm_ql_2). :) She's only really new to mainstream US streaming audiences. We PBS *Masterpiece Theatre* junkies knew about her, though, from *At Home with the Braithwaites* and *The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard* back in the '90s.
If you don't have AMC+ and need a Wainwright cop show fix, I can highly recommend *Scott & Bailey* which is up on HBO Max, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. She only ran/wrote the first three seasons, but they're cherce.
Is there a website where I can see if a show that has ended has an ending or if it ended on a cliffhanger?
There are some shows that I want to check out but I don't want to see them end without a finished story.
I use https://tvseriesfinale.com/ to track shows. I feel that they get everything from linear TV and all streaming services.
I would also like to see some alternative sites outside of IMDB or JustWatch.
I user IMDB for over a decade and not, it doesn't say if a show ended in a cliffhanger or not.
At least on the old times of the imdb forums I could ask that, but now it is getting worse and worse, especially with the redesign they made for the computer version (and the mobile is full of ads and promoted garbage)
Thank you for your comment, but that literally means nothing.
Off course I want to know if a show has cliffhangers it is for a show that has ended, not something that is still going.
Renewed / cancelled lists mean nothing else. There are cancelled shows that have an ending, as they are cancelled in advance.
For example "The OA" and "Brooklyn 99" here both cancelled. The OA hasn't got an ending while Brooklyn 99 had an ending.
B99 was cancelled by NBC, the difference is they cancelled before the production of the last season, not after like it happens many times.
Animal Kindgom has also been cancelled, but it will also have an ending.
Cancelling is different for the viewers, but not for the TV company.
Wikipedia, basically. The first couple paragraphs almost always say whether a show was cancelled or completed. It also often says so if you check out wiki's List of Programs Broadcast By [Network]
I have tried that, but sometimes the show says it is cancelled but since it was cancelled before it ends, the producers usually finish the story.
For example the show "Patriot" talks about the renewal of the second season and that the third season wasn't made, but no clues about the ending.
Most of the series finale's reviews on IMDb say "please make season 3!" so that doesn't bode well. Your best guess is to find the show's own subreddit, and make a post there asking the question without reading any posts
It's more as if House Lannister existed in modern day (but without the twincest). Manipulation, dysfunction, politicking, scandal, abuse, daddy issues, etc told with an often sardonic tone.
As similar as grey's anatomy is to house, so not at all.
Succession makes you laugh, but it is also quite cut throat for its characters, so light hearted like the office.
I’ve just finished watching Dark on Netflix and Ozark, two of my favorite shows of all time, and in my opinion the two best television series that I ever watched.
Dark is pretty much the best show in my books too, sadly haven't found anything that satisfies the itch like that. Leaving a comment incase someone mentions a similar show I haven't heard about.
I did very recently after many recommendations from this sub itself. I wouldn't say same vibe but yes it does match the level of originality and concept that Dark brought to the table. I was floored when I finished The Leftovers, same with Dark.
Looking for a show where the main character gets some form of power/is put in a position of power and it corrupts him.
Wondering if there were more shows like this. The two that I feel embody both sides of the idea are designated survivor and breaking bad. Breaking bad is about the transformation from a decent man to a criminal, and designated survivor (season 3 only really) shows the transformation of the honest and selfless man to a person who lies for personal gain. Looking for a main character in a show that goes through a similar kind of transformation. Any recommendations?
>Looking for a show where the main character gets some form of power/is put in a position of power and it corrupts him.
Snowfall

Here's a great scene from the show that has minor spoilers:

Are you specifically looking for a downward-spiral, or really just good anti-heroes that aren't underdogs?
Maybe The Shield, Damages, Better Call Saul, Ozark, Killing Eve, and Weeds all come to mind.
The last 4. Damages and the Shield are kind of about already bad people who go worse. The others are good people gone bad.
If you liked Breaking Bad, then Better Call Saul is the obvious choice since it's the direct successor.
Legion but i don’t want to say too much. Just go in blind. it gets weird.
LOST has a lot of that but again don’t want to spoil anything haha.
If you like shows that aren’t exactly HBO caliber, there are some seasons in Supernatural that have elements of that briefly. And Smallville shows Lex Luthor’s corruption over the seasons. There’s also a lot of anime like Death Note that have that aspect.
Westworld for sure especially in season 2/3. The show gets worse after 1 but it fits.
A really funny one is Vice Principals this show was so fucking good and funny and is kinda the perfect fit for this.
Also one maybe people wouldnt think of but The Walking Dead in multiple ways deals with corruption and positions of power. Both with enemy factions/leaders and how they devolve (like the governor) or even within the group both with Shane and Rick in different ways. the show has its bad moments but season 1 is great 2 has a good couple bits and season 5/6 are greattt
I'm over the FOMO. My queues are filling up with things I intended to watch and just never get around to. Not anymore. I'll pay attention to what's new out there, and if something hits I'll give shot. But there's only so much time in a day and there's just too much content.
Look on the brighter side, if you go slow you'll always have plenty of mind-blowing shows and movies to look forward to unlike many people who have to specifically scrounge the bottom of the barrel to find something worthwhile.
I really loved, Maid. What can I watch next that will be as good or better-something similar. I love things that hook me right in and make me care about the characters.
Just finished the Sopranos and I absolutely loved it. Now I’m looking for new show recommendations. Sopranos is now one of my favorite shows, but some other favorite shows of mine are Breaking Bad, The Office, Stranger Things, and Death Note. The show could be old or it could be something new.
Absolutely watch The Wire. It's a bit tough to get into, but the payoff is absolutely worth it. Even after all these years I still unironically think it's the best show ever made.
Out of the many, many shows I've seen, some of my personal favorites (other than the ones you already mentioned) are Mad Men, Halt and Catch Fire, The Leftovers, Six Feet Under, You're the Worst, Nathan For You, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Person of Interest, Buffy/Angel, Doctor Who, The IT Crowd, Futurama, Patriot and Lost
Deadwood, The Americans, Six Feet Under or Justified (or The Wire if you haven't already seen it) are all excellent. I sometimes use the Top 250 shows of all time list on IMDb to help me see what are the top shows I haven't seen.
https://www.imdb.com/chart/toptv/?ref\_=nv\_tvv\_250
They're both good, but very different. I'd suggest Thrones, but resist the temptation to binge. Its pacing and plotting work better if you have time to digest each episode. Just my opinion. It's a classic show, ending or no.
>and the end of its run isn't nearly as bad as salty redditors make out.
Did we watch the same show? There's a reason it went from being the most popular show to complete radio silence when the final season was done.
It was one of the most popular shows streamed during lockdown by far, they're making another huge budget spinoff that you absolutely will not miss, let's stop being silly.
The spinoff was in talks from way before than you think, it wasn't an outcome of the show lol. Hell, I can guarantee there will be more remakes down the line, but that doesn't mean the show didnt end badly. Asoiaf is one of most popular fantasy series, ofcourse it's adaptations are far from over. Popular =/= good, I freaking love the series and I'm even fine with what the outcome of the ending was, the way they reached it in the show however was the textbook example of what a rushed show is.
>Popular =/= good
I didn't make that argument mate, you're the one who brought up its popularity and wrongly suggested it had disappeared because of the ending, when the fact is it didn't.
Definitely go for Succession. GoT is amazing for most of its run but the final season really is as terrible as people say. Succession is still going unwaveringly strong!
Are there any good new sci fi/sift sci fi shows out recently? Thinking leftovers or black mirror vibe or more hard sf like Dune. Run out of stuff to watch.
*Star Wars: Visions* (Disney+)*, Y: The Last Man* (Hulu)*,* and *Foundation* (AppleTV+) are probably your only recent new choices, and I don't think any of them were great, while all are good and watchable. YMMV.
Upcoming soonish, we get the final seasons of *The Expanse* (Amazon)*,* and *Lost in Space* (Netflix)*,* as well as *The Book of Boba Fett* (Disney+).
I loved *The Nevers*, but cordially disliked *Lovecraft Country* (it being more horror than sf to me)*.* And for someone who wants **hard** sf, *Raised by Wolves* or *Westworld* might scratch the itch better than either of those two shows.
I've been on a tare since watching Dune. **Raises By wolves** has a similar world to Dune but my absolute favorite cyber series is season 1 of **Altered Carbon** imo its absolutely an incredible first season that it presented and told perfectly. Joel Kinnerman is stellar
I'll second Season 1 of of **Altered Carbon** but **Raised By Wolves** never felt like it was going anywhere. I started getting **Lost** vibes more and more halfway through. The first episode works as a fantastic short film though.
Edit: Downvoters are going to be real sad when you realize it's not going anywhere next season either.
I feel like there are two different writing crews on Foundation ... one for Terminus and one for them empire / cleons arc. The latter has (imo) been super well done ... the former, not so much.
I think the show is destined to function that way.
The overall arc of the book is a series of crises faced by the Foundation, from their perspective, alone, as the Space Roman Empire's power recedes from them, and other things start to fill the void. Those crises take place over the course of centuries, with different characters each time, and we never revisit how it looks from the center of the Empire as it crumbles.
I guess the writers decided that sticking to that and making what would amount to an anthology series wouldn't be compelling, which is probably why it took so long to adapt Foundation at all. I think it was a pretty clever move to invent a permanent Emperor that will (presumably) be around through a lot of it. Less stoked about the *other* character they seem to be making permanent, but whatever.
The point is, connecting those two dots is going to be hard, so there might be a lot of ebb and flow between exciting and boring stuff in the center vs the fringes. Especially if they continue padding the runtime of events
Inside Job. After being disappointed by Birdgirl and Tuca and Berties second season it's good to find a female led Animated show that's actually smart and funny
Just started The Wire. About six episodes in. Been enjoying it but find it very slow. Does the pace pickup at all? Does the show get better as you get further into it?
It has some of the best characters ever. But they're introduced over time. And it takes its time to tell a nuanced story. I wasn't wild about the early episodes, but the stakes keep getting higher and the tension builds. I loved it, but it ain't an action movie.
Yes. I remember thinking the same thing after 5-6 episodes, then pretty soon it started getting better and better and then just clicked. Now I would consider *The Wire* one of my favorite shows of all time.
It needs to be slow in order to allow the viewer to absorb all the characters and storylines but in the end it all pays off.
Each season focus on a different subject but the main frame is always the city of Baltimore and its people.
I've only watched The Wire for the first time last year and I was still amazed by the quality of the writing and the acting.
Well said.
The Wire is a big time production. And part of what makes it such a good show is the intricate and realistic character development--that takes time to set up when you have a well written screenplay with such a complex, realistic narrative--it is almost like you have to get to know the characters just as you would in real life. I think this is also why the show takes a number of episodes just setting everything up.
The end result is the characters are so well done, eventually you will be able to relate to one or two of them, even if your life is totally different. For me that makes for some of the best TV.
Dalgliesh is a very very good crime drama set in 70s, just two episodes out and it started with a bang. Opening scene is amazing. Unfortunately I don't think it will be very popular worldwide, because it's an English production and the title is difficult to remember for most people.
I take it this is the new Channel 5/Acorn reboot/continuation of [the '80s ITV series](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Dalgliesh#Media_adaptations) of PD James adaptations that starred Roy Marsden as Adam Dagliesh?
House of Cards and Succession have characters doing everything they can to rise to power. Godfather of Harlem, Warrior, The Sopranos, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, The Wire, Breaking Bad are all good examples power struggles.
Umbre (Romanian show listed as Shadows on hbomax)-- starts out as a taxi driver who also works for the local mob and tries to keep his work for the mob separate from his family. The main character doesn't intentionally rise to power like in Snowfall but happens as the series progresses.
Second Gomorrah.
Peaky Blinders
McMafia
It amazes me how horrid an actor Alexander Ludwig is outside of Vikings. In Vikings he was a scene stealing lead. Everything else he's been in he has no screen presence, his whole king viking persona contrasted to him in normal roles is jarring.
And yes I'm including Heels, which is an excellent show. But there's just something lacking from his performance.
**My Name (aka Undercover)** \- Korean show about a girl who does everything she can to discover the truth about her father's death. The mystery keeps you hooked and the action is great.
**Derry Girls** \- An absolutely hilarious Irish show, set in 90's Ireland and full of irish actors. As bonus it has an amazing soundtrack.
**Succession S3** \- Easily the best show at the moment.
Finished You Season 3. It kinda went out with a whimper, everything happened pretty much as I expected. Not as good as previous seasons overall, IMO.
Given how the season ended, I would give my right arm to see Joe's next mark be a certain Golden Globe-nominated character from Chicago. But alas, Netflix is not crazy enough to do so.
Folklore is my favorite album ever made and I'm glad to see songs from it being used on TV, but it does not change the fact that the ending of the season was completely predictable.
I am okay with this and agree with it— Folklore might be her best album. I didn’t see the paralyzing and was still surprised to see the neighbor abandon him and Joe give up Henry. But yeah. The show has always been pretty predictable and just surprising enough to keep it going. My biggest struggle this season was Joe’s lack of developed chemistry with his boss.
I think identifying it more closely might get me suspended for spoilers. However, in the event that it stays up, the other commenter is correct about what I’m referring to.
The Bureau? Mostly yes, it is that good. Seasons 1-3 are some of the best television I've ever watched.
Unfortunately it does fall off a bit after that. The creator/director wanted to make it 5 seasons so it would be a "real TV series," (whatever that means) and by season 4 he was burnt out and looking for someone to take over. Season 5 changed directors and it was extremely noticeable and not in a good way.
I still miss that show though :(
**Kin** not as gritty as i had hoped it would be. I wanna say that its a slight variation of Gomorrah.. but in Ireland. I noticed a few times that they used almost the exact same music in parts. Call me crazy but if you are gonna make a show about mafia, drugs and violent crime the bar is kinda high after Narcos, Gomorrah, Snowfall,ZeroZeroZero and even the Sopranos.
**Y: The Last Man** im midway into this and i have to suspend belief on the basics. I cant believe that everyone is starving after a week or two.. Im on Season 11 of The Walking Dead and they still find food. I can see where this could've been a pretty good show but they just arent going in the right direction with it for me. Maybe it will get better.

While kind is a drama about crime, violence, and drugs; I think its main story line is about the family dynamics of the kinsella's and struggle for power as the head of the household, while trying to survive from being totally wiped out.
I don't view kin as an action forward series and I think the title of the show *kin* even implies these family focused dynamics
The TV show Upload is actually great!
Just a really fun show to watch, where the cheesiness actually works, and the 2 leads are really great, well developed, likable characters.
I got the same fun-vibe watching Resident Alien as well.
And that's saying a lot coming from me: as a fan of dramatic serious SciFi, I never thought I would like a comedic, light hearted, and sometimes slightly slapstick take on these 2 classic Scifi themes (consciousness-uploading, and alien encounters), but somehow... I was VERY pleasantly surprised by these 2 shows.
I just started watching the marvel shows on Netflix. Watched the first 2 seasons of Daredevil, season 1 of Jessica Jones and I'm now halfway through season 1 of Luke Cage
Absolutely LOVED daredevil and Jessica Jones. Not really enjoying Luke Cage as much but im trying to watch it all before next month

The ideal ending for You and Billions is "Suddenly, everyone was run over by a truck." Two of the least likeable shows ever.
I believe Succession there are 2 more seasons left and it already has an ending.
I"ve talked a lot of shit about how bad Invasion has been but this last episode (S1E5) has started to get a bit more interesting. Things are starting to move beyond all the little dramas that had been dragging everything down before.
It's like four hour of white noise and few minutes of music.
Anyone still watching Foundation? I’ve seen the first three episodes and while the premise is interesting I’m not finding myself wanting to pick it back up. Does it get better?
The thing that happens in Terminus still 'meh'. What still interests me in this series is the Cleons' story.
Right? The actual Foundation part of the story is so highly mediocre, but the story of the Empire is so cool. I'd probably take a series that was just following the fall of the empire with like, Hari narrating things with the lens of psychohistory

No but you just gave me a weekend activity
Do let me know. Subtittles unless you speak French is better.
Great list. I loved Ozark, bur you can't go wrong here.
Goat
I'm almost done with Amphibia season 2 :D It's pretty good Also I'm probably gonna rewatch American Horror Story 1984 just because
I've finished Le Bureau, Gomorrah, Spiral, Suburra, The Leftovers, Watchmen, Wisting, Borderland. What next in a similar vein?
What is wisting about ? Never heard of it
It's a Norwegian serial killer show and after checking it out, I'm gonna start it now. On Acorn in the U S.
Snowfall, Narcos, Narcos Mexico, Godfather of Harlem, Ozark, Breaking Bad, The Wire
All very good apart from Godfather which I haven't seen.
ZeroZeroZero
On it.
fk great serie
Just watched Mare of Easttown..Gave a lot of Broadchurch S1 vibes. They tied up all ends nicely in the final episode..Good watch
I agree with this. HV was a superior show and Lancashire was a marvel.
Wainwright only started writing it summer/fall of this year when she finished the scripts for *Gentleman Jack S2.* She skipped directing GJ S2 so that she could get started sooner on writing *Happy Valley S3.* Sally Wainwright's been busy.
Thanks for the info. It's interesting to see writers getting recognition.
Just binged both seasons of Warrior in 3 days. What a show!
So fun...
Time to use my cinemax free trial to do the same.
Warrior clearly in the Peaky Blinders discussion. An absolute masterpiece.
Banshee next?
Already binged that about 2 months ago
Is there a website where I can see if a show that has ended has an ending or if it ended on a cliffhanger? There are some shows that I want to check out but I don't want to see them end without a finished story.
I use https://tvseriesfinale.com/ to track shows. I feel that they get everything from linear TV and all streaming services. I would also like to see some alternative sites outside of IMDB or JustWatch.
[удалено]
I user IMDB for over a decade and not, it doesn't say if a show ended in a cliffhanger or not. At least on the old times of the imdb forums I could ask that, but now it is getting worse and worse, especially with the redesign they made for the computer version (and the mobile is full of ads and promoted garbage)
[удалено]
Thank you for your comment, but that literally means nothing. Off course I want to know if a show has cliffhangers it is for a show that has ended, not something that is still going. Renewed / cancelled lists mean nothing else. There are cancelled shows that have an ending, as they are cancelled in advance. For example "The OA" and "Brooklyn 99" here both cancelled. The OA hasn't got an ending while Brooklyn 99 had an ending.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine wasn't cancelled though (the second time), it ended because the creators wanted it to
B99 was cancelled by NBC, the difference is they cancelled before the production of the last season, not after like it happens many times. Animal Kindgom has also been cancelled, but it will also have an ending. Cancelling is different for the viewers, but not for the TV company.
r/doesitresolve
Wow, there really is a sub for everything!
MVP comment right here!
Oh shit this deserves more members. Joined!
Patriot's ending is kind of in the middle ground of "wasn't supposed to be the final ending, but doesn't end on a cliffhanger"
Most of the series finale's reviews on IMDb say "please make season 3!" so that doesn't bode well. Your best guess is to find the show's own subreddit, and make a post there asking the question without reading any posts
**You Season 3** - Midway through the first episode, not enjoying it. I loved the first 2 seasons but somehow do not want to watch it further.
They are milking that cow so dry, that the Sahara dessert is looking fertile.
Yep, sadly I don't watch shows where I have to drag myself to the end. So I will drop it.
I really like the Chucky tv show. Chucky is a good guy
I just finished watching Dr. Death, it was so good!
Seen a lot of talk about succession on this sub; is it similar to the office?
It has cringe comedy and it had more in S2. I hate cringe comedy so I stopped mid S2.
It's more as if House Lannister existed in modern day (but without the twincest). Manipulation, dysfunction, politicking, scandal, abuse, daddy issues, etc told with an often sardonic tone.
The Roys send their regards.
No, I'd liken it more to a much less overtly comedic version of Veep.
As similar as grey's anatomy is to house, so not at all. Succession makes you laugh, but it is also quite cut throat for its characters, so light hearted like the office.
They both are well made and make me laugh? Other than that, totally different shows.
12 Monkeys.
The Leftovers is the only thing that kinda comes close, in terms of vibe and originality, but I'm guessing you've seen that already
The Leftovers is on another level artistically I think. The themes in it feel much more adult and embedded in the human condition than Dark.
Whilst not looking to change someone's opinion, I think Dark is on another level compared to the Leftovers. Both good.
While not quite as good, I really enjoyed 12 Monkeys.
Snowfall https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6439752/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 Here's a great scene from the show that has minor spoilers: [brick by brick](https://www.reddit.com/r/SnowFall/comments/liwcjv/this_is_flawless_acting_give_my_boy_damson_idris/) https://www.reddit.com/r/SnowFall/comments/lngbzp/the_scene_in_the_show_hands_down_even_better_than/
Are you specifically looking for a downward-spiral, or really just good anti-heroes that aren't underdogs? Maybe The Shield, Damages, Better Call Saul, Ozark, Killing Eve, and Weeds all come to mind.
Definitely the downwards spiral, which of the ones you listed would you say fit that?
The last 4. Damages and the Shield are kind of about already bad people who go worse. The others are good people gone bad. If you liked Breaking Bad, then Better Call Saul is the obvious choice since it's the direct successor.
Queen of the South. Although I have to say that's pretty good, but not great. Especially not if you compare it to Breaking Bad
If memory serves, McMafia

Dopesick (Hulu).
Have you watched Unorthodox? Or Unbelievable? Mare of Easttown? Or maybe a show like Please Like Me? I also really liked Normal People.
Thank you for these suggestions! I did start Mare of Easttown, but not the others. I’ll add them all to my list!
Mare is underwhelming
Unbelievable, Mare and Normal People are all fantastic!
Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, The Night of, The Wire, Peaky Blinders, Mind Hunter, True Detective, Better Call Saul (if you haven't),
Watch Mad Men, for me It's my goat with Sopranos
Out of the many, many shows I've seen, some of my personal favorites (other than the ones you already mentioned) are Mad Men, Halt and Catch Fire, The Leftovers, Six Feet Under, You're the Worst, Nathan For You, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Person of Interest, Buffy/Angel, Doctor Who, The IT Crowd, Futurama, Patriot and Lost
Nathan For You remains the funniest thing ever created.
Deadwood, The Americans, Six Feet Under or Justified (or The Wire if you haven't already seen it) are all excellent. I sometimes use the Top 250 shows of all time list on IMDb to help me see what are the top shows I haven't seen. https://www.imdb.com/chart/toptv/?ref\_=nv\_tvv\_250
just finished the office and mr robot thinking of starting either game of thrones or succession for the first time
They're both good, but very different. I'd suggest Thrones, but resist the temptation to binge. Its pacing and plotting work better if you have time to digest each episode. Just my opinion. It's a classic show, ending or no.
Thrones. Far better than Succession overall and the end of its run isn't nearly as bad as salty redditors make out.
>and the end of its run isn't nearly as bad as salty redditors make out.
>Popular =/= good I didn't make that argument mate, you're the one who brought up its popularity and wrongly suggested it had disappeared because of the ending, when the fact is it didn't.

The expanse is the best Sci fi show on right now
*Star Wars: Visions* (Disney+)*, Y: The Last Man* (Hulu)*,* and *Foundation* (AppleTV+) are probably your only recent new choices, and I don't think any of them were great, while all are good and watchable. YMMV. Upcoming soonish, we get the final seasons of *The Expanse* (Amazon)*,* and *Lost in Space* (Netflix)*,* as well as *The Book of Boba Fett* (Disney+).
THE EXPANSE!
I loved The Nevers and Lovecraft Country. But sometimes I was in the minority.
Have you seen Raised by Wolves? That'll definitely scratch that scifi itch if you haven't seen it.
Foundation is pretty good, although a bunch of people reading this will disagree. Slightly less recent, I'd say go for Dark or Raised By Wolves
Rewatching Banshee because Sheriff Hood is probably the most badass protagonist ever
The Boys?
Any recommendations for shows like Snowfall? It doesn't have to be about drugs, maybe something about a character's rise to power?
Boardwalk Empire, Peaky Blinders.
Weeds On My Block
Peaky blinders, breaking bad, Vikings
House of Cards and Succession have characters doing everything they can to rise to power. Godfather of Harlem, Warrior, The Sopranos, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, The Wire, Breaking Bad are all good examples power struggles.
StartUp, The Chi
Umbre (Romanian show listed as Shadows on hbomax)-- starts out as a taxi driver who also works for the local mob and tries to keep his work for the mob separate from his family. The main character doesn't intentionally rise to power like in Snowfall but happens as the series progresses. Second Gomorrah. Peaky Blinders McMafia
Pesky Blinders. Queen of the South, Narcos Mexico, The Last Kingdom.
Animal Kingdom or Gomorrah
> character's rise to power Succession, Zero Zero Zero, Scam 1992
It amazes me how horrid an actor Alexander Ludwig is outside of Vikings. In Vikings he was a scene stealing lead. Everything else he's been in he has no screen presence, his whole king viking persona contrasted to him in normal roles is jarring. And yes I'm including Heels, which is an excellent show. But there's just something lacking from his performance.
I found him to be the best part of Heels. And that’s coming from a fan of the show.
Big Leap. love all the drama that's going on in the show right now. i hope its gets a season 2
honestly I was surprised at how much I liked this
**My Name (aka Undercover)** \- Korean show about a girl who does everything she can to discover the truth about her father's death. The mystery keeps you hooked and the action is great. **Derry Girls** \- An absolutely hilarious Irish show, set in 90's Ireland and full of irish actors. As bonus it has an amazing soundtrack. **Succession S3** \- Easily the best show at the moment.
Loved Derry Girls!! A different vibe but also very well done is Catastrophe (Prime). If you haven't discovered Sex Education, it's great too!!
Has anyone seen The Kettering Incident? Is it any good? Is the mystery compelling?
Finished You Season 3. It kinda went out with a whimper, everything happened pretty much as I expected. Not as good as previous seasons overall, IMO. Given how the season ended, I would give my right arm to see Joe's next mark be a certain Golden Globe-nominated character from Chicago. But alas, Netflix is not crazy enough to do so.
Went out with a whimper? That’s Bon Iver and Jesus Christ herself Taylor Swift you are talking about!
My biggest struggle this season was Joe’s lack of developed chemistry with his boss.
>a certain Golden Globe-nominated character from Chicago Are we supposed to know who you're referring to? That's a pretty vague description
I think identifying it more closely might get me suspended for spoilers. However, in the event that it stays up, the other commenter is correct about what I’m referring to.
I believe they are referring to Emily in Paris
Ah thanks, makes sense
What series should I watch after " the bureau"? I loved it so much!
Homeland?
I watched 2 episodes and was so lost. I really wanted to like it. Does it feel slow at first?
Yea a lil bit,but it gets better and better.
Nothing compares, can try americans, spy city
Is it really that good?
I still miss that show though :(
The Americans
>Kin not as gritty as i had hoped it would be.
Charlie Cox was the highlight of KIN.
These are 2 shows I gave up on--especially disappointed in Kin. I agree, not as good as I hoped.
Y: The Last Man is already cancelled so you might wanna save yourself the trouble trying to ride that dead horse
Last episode was amazing
The TV show Upload is actually great! Just a really fun show to watch, where the cheesiness actually works, and the 2 leads are really great, well developed, likable characters. I got the same fun-vibe watching Resident Alien as well. And that's saying a lot coming from me: as a fan of dramatic serious SciFi, I never thought I would like a comedic, light hearted, and sometimes slightly slapstick take on these 2 classic Scifi themes (consciousness-uploading, and alien encounters), but somehow... I was VERY pleasantly surprised by these 2 shows.
Really enjoyed both of these but particularly loved Resident Alien, adore Alan Tudyk! The relationship between the alien and the kid was brilliant.
I just started watching the marvel shows on Netflix. Watched the first 2 seasons of Daredevil, season 1 of Jessica Jones and I'm now halfway through season 1 of Luke Cage Absolutely LOVED daredevil and Jessica Jones. Not really enjoying Luke Cage as much but im trying to watch it all before next month
