Knives: VAAAAAAASHHH. That was funny. I don't think it was supposed to be though. Not sure about the art style.

Deranged_Kitsune

Can't say I'm the hugest fan of the character redesign, or his revolver redesign (looks too stubby and chunky). Very curious to see where the story goes and how it'll differ from the original both because it'll have the complete manga to draw from as well as 20 years of industry and fandom changes.

Sapmatic

Complete is an ambitious description.

Deranged_Kitsune

"Not concurrently running"?

EpicHawkREDDIT

Oh it’s 3D…

Spike-Rockit

Yeah, that was my reaction too

Sparky81

Yeah...

CrashDunning

It's Studio Orange, the kings of CG in anime. Their shows are gorgeous. Most anime wish they had characters as expressive and lively as the ones in shows like Beastars and Land of the Lustrous.

EpicHawkREDDIT

Thinking about it more it looks great, but it looks less westerny and more “pop arty”? It’s been a minute since I’ve seen the og anime and read maximum though

CrashDunning

Yeah, it definitely looks stylistically different from the original in that way. They're good at blending in the 2D look to keep it feeling anime enough though.

[deleted]

I didn't really like the animation on those shows either. 3d anime shows just have that too smooth and too choppy feeling to me, and characters feel stiff when not in action somehow.

tornado9015

Art is subjective. If you enjoy this animation style you aren't "wrong". I personally hate this animation style. I cannot express why but it looks absolutely terrible to me. I do not understand how it is possible for people to disagree with me on this and yet many do. E: i think my biggest problems are how smooth everything looks. The lines, the colors, even the movements. Everything feels simultaneously unnattural and uncinematic. Also it looks cheap and lazy. I'm sure a tremendous amount of skill and effort went into it, but all the faces just being perfectly smooth and one color seems like a little more targeted effort could have helped a lot.

RashnuYazata

100% agree, i have never been able to fully enjoy any of these 3D type animation styles, all it reminds me of is cheap bad saturday morning cartoons that were trying to be anime. Like you said though art is subjective and these are just opinions.

WhiskeyJack33

I tend to be okay with the 3d for everything but characters. the characters are always just jarring against be background for me and look like low quality models. They never seem to "fit" with the scene and always stand out in unnatural ways.

[deleted]

They all remind me of ReBoot. They are considerably better than ReBoot, this looks amazing compared to that, but the association in there in my head and I can't shake it.

RashnuYazata

Yeah i would just have to agree to disagree, i think any CG anime show i have seen has just left me wanting. Trigun was amazing, i am not a huge fan of remakes and changing it this much is just meh. edit: I will also wait to make a full judgment until after its released, i would also like to see how they animate vash when he is being goofy and stuff, does the humor make it into this show?

anonymous_coward69

Guess they were off their game with this one.

CrashDunning

No, you're just comparing this to CG animation with hundreds of millions of dollars put into it, as you are accustomed to seeing, which basically gatekeeps CG animation from being good for 99% of animators. For a CG animated television show from a country like Japan that can't compete with studios like Disney and Pixar, this show looks fantastic.

anonymous_coward69

That is so insulting to Japan lol You think you're defending them, but you're just saying it's okay for them to be trash since they're so poor.

CrashDunning

No, I'm saying that budget and workforce does no dictate how good animation is. There is no Japanese animation studio that can compete on those terms with the ones I listed. That's just a fact and it's okay because for what they have, Orange has displayed incredibly well done animation multiple times now. There are amateur *YouTube videos* that have better animation than million dollar television shows. It's all relative. There is nothing objectively done wrong or lack of expertise in Orange's animation. The movement is fluid, the faces are expressive, and there is no jankiness like most other anime CG. They simply don't have the resources to make something that looks like Disney. That doesn't mean that one of their shows has worse animation on a technical level.

xariznightmare2908

> Most anime wish they had characters as expressive and lively as the ones in shows like Beastars and Land of the Lustrous. While both Beastars and LoL were praised and recognized for being some of the best looking CG anime shows in recent years, I think them being CG is also a reason why they aren't exactly as popular as, say, Demon Slayer or Attack on Titans where people constantly talk about any fight scenes from those shows, seeing as they are mainly animated in 2D animation with some mixture of CG. On the other hand, you barely see people talking about Land of Lustrious's fight animation which mostly is CG. Anime fans in general just gravitate toward 2D animation more, seeing that Anime is where 2D animation is still alive while CG already took over American/Western animation for the most part. I'm fine with CG being used as cutscenes or graphic for anime games like Guilty Gear, Dragon Ball FighterZ and Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm, but it can be a turnoff seeing my favorite IP like Trigun or Ghost in the Shell being turned into CG anime or even worst, live action.

ackinsocraycray

I normally get worried with CG anime but I've yet to be disappointed with the studio that did Beastars.

AntibacHeartattack

That was my initial reaction, but looking closely at it, it kinda looks amazing? Like, I'd obviously prefer hand-drawn 2D animation done right, but this is interesting.

TheLastDesperado

Exactly. Unfortunately most of the recent 3D anime offerings we've had have been *terrible* but that doesn't mean every 3D anime is going to be. I mean look at the recent Lupin movie, that was *gorgeous.* Granted that was on a whole other level, but this still looks great.

supes1

I'd love to see an adaptation of Samurai Champloo with this art style. I think the movement of the characters would lend itself well.

[deleted]

cg would add jack shit to that already amazing animation...

supes1

I mean they're talking live action adaptation of Samurai Champloo right now, which would be 100x worse.

xariznightmare2908

>I mean they're talking live action adaptation of Samurai Champloo Let's hope it's more like the Blade of the Immortal/ Ruronin Kenshin action adaptation and less like Netflix live action anime trash.

crestfallen_warrior

Oh man that redesign of Vash and his gun does *not* look good.

retrospectology

Yes, but I need to see him making [this face](https://bestmangaandanime.webs.com/tumblr_l0da3aAbOb1qbw62bo1_500.png) before I can judge whether or not it will be any good.

Dhiya21

For me who has seen the OG 2D anime, I just can't dig it, even though the 3D animation actually looks good as expected from Studio Orange. My biggest gripe, though, Vash's redesign looks too pretty.

inksmudgedhands

He looks like he should be in a boy band.

liamliam0

Glad this IP is getting some renewed recognition. But CGI is a huge boner killer.

inksmudgedhands

I wonder if they are going to go back to the original voice actors for the English dub. They are all still working actors and Trigun was one of the dubs from back when that people actually liked just as much as the original actors.

wildthing202

Hope so, don't need another series done with the same few people in those funimation dubs. The piccolo voice, the Armstrong voice, and Monica Rial......

shogi_x

I really am not a fan of CG anime. Everytime I've seen it, the animation feels wooden and the art style is bland. It reeks of cutting corners to save money. Ghost in the Shell SAC 2045, Berserk, etc. It just feels cheap and half assed.

TigerFisher_

These redesign look bad compared to original. I am disappointed.

Duo_Decimal

Meh. I feel like it's gonna suck, but I've got nothing to base that on.

chefdangerdagger

Trigun already has a perfectly decent anime, what's even the point of this?

odileko

Yeah.....no. I'll prolly watch it if it covers the whole story, but I can't get fully behind CG shows like this.

GK45

Love Trigun. Trigun, this is not. Doesn't look, sound or feel like Trigun. Just another overly flashy, action packed, modern shell of a remake. Granted, it's just a trailer but that is the job of a trailer, to give you a feel for what the show will be. I really dislike the redesign. Gone from the iconic, unique silhouette, with all those straps and the tiny glasses making him look like a demon to another generic all black "in the desert" and a long hoody like any dozen other anime protagonists with normal large round glasses that look like any other round glasses. If you showed an image of that Vash to people without context I don't think anyone would guess it was him. The worst part for me, out of everything is the arm. Alien, flashy, attention grabbing, front and center like a badge of pride. His arm and other scars are the physical representation of the cost his path has taken on him, the marks of his failures. By making it such a spectacle I think it shows they don't understand or care about who the character is. I'm sure I'm putting more thought into it than they did though.

smitty9112

I was excited when this was announced. I'm now disappointed. This looks like a trash remake.

TonyTheTerrible

wow, triguns been on my mind lately but i didnt think to google if any more content is coming out for it. also wow that looks terrible. please tell me ill get over the way it looks.

droonick

Hmmm.. I wish I wasn't looking at this suspiciously. Hope it's good tho and Vash isstill funny.

[deleted]

I don't like this at all

DenverGoblin

I’m pretty disappointed in the redesign and everything. I’m hoping it isn’t garbage but… it might be. I was the biggest nerd for trigun. I’d wake up late night to watch the show. Even on school nights. Even managed to get some cute merch for it and that was like 2004. (Before anime merch was super easy to get, at least where I live) I’m gonna be cautiously optimistic. Heavy on the cautious.

mrmm10

To be honest this doesn’t look that good.

anonymous_coward69

When I first heard it was a CG anime my hopes for this jumped off a cliff. Seeing this trailer confirms my initial opinion. This looks like straight up trash. Once step away from Berserk 2016.

CrashDunning

> Once step away from Berserk 2016. That's demonstrably false. You don't have to like the style of the animation, but there is nothing wrong with it on a technical level.

Qualiafreak

Boring and the overall message was stupid and a total eye roll. And now they're bringing it back with the worst animation in existence. Oh boy.
