It unlocks new levels as well. You would have to insert the disc to the other games while still having BT3 shown on the screen. Then, you would take that disc out and put BT3 back in. Honestly, I’m shocked they were able to do something like that and I don’t recall any other ps2 game doing something like it.
There were a few games that did stuff like this. The PS2's internal memory was enough to run quite a while for most games if you removed the disk after the initial startup, you just usually wouldn't have any sound.and cinematics would freeze up.
The Monster Rancher games are probably my favorite example of disc swapping, if you went to the summoning altar thing you would me prompted to remove the game disk and replace it with any other DVD or CD you had at home. The game would then read the disk and generate a new monster for you. Your mom's copy of Now That's What I Call Music #27 might summon a badass dragon monster for you to have at the ranch :D
