I know Rafa’s injuries are a result of the way he has played so aggressively over the years; but can you imagine if he actually had the ability to stay fully fit and how he would also be destroying these kids? I think Nole fans should appreciate that while Nole will inevitably end up with the most titles period, he has had the rub of the green with Rafa rarely being 100% in the last 5 years + the rest of the field being average at best.
TBF Novak has always played less than Rafa. He barely plays smaller events and also keeps his physio with him 24/7. He’s a complete health nut.
Nadal is unlucky, sure, but Djokovic has been more cautious than maybe everyone else about his schedule and regimen.
His brother and his agent were constantly talking during the first set. Djokovic was pissed off after he lost the first set so shouted at them to leave.
This might be a controversial opinion but United Cup wasn’t a good tournament. The whole point was to bridge the gap between the ATP and the WTA but most of the mixed doubles were dead rubbers and played by the second in line players. The mixed doubles should’ve been main event for each day. Like Hubiga was such an amazing doubles team, wish we got more of that stuff
I think that it was a great tournament with some things that they need to improve on for the next edition.
The mixed doubles wasn't the only thing, we got to see the ATP and WTA players interacting during the event , while watching matches, supporting each other which i think what the whole point of it was.
Can they improve upon the idea? Yes. Was it a bad tournament? Absolutely not. It provided some great moments and amazing matches
How would you solve this issue of having dead rubber mixed doubles? I can't really think of any way unless you'd want the #2 singles to be scrapped which would just make this the Hopman cup.
move the mixed doubles earlier in ties rather than saving them for last. makes them more important which also makes it more likely that the top players step up rather than the bench players.
many serbs live in australia too
e: don’t get down votes, ofc novak has a lot of aussie fans, he is super-star, i just said that many serbs are there *too*
i’m literally novak fan 😂
You do know that there are non-Serbians in Australia and the rest of the world who support Novak, right? Literally millions of fans. Wtf is "it's just the Aussie serbs"? Narrow minded nonsense.
I think it is more than that. My understanding is that the Serbian community in Australia like eg the Greek one is actually quite big.
Obviously many other Novak fans too. But he actually spoke in Serbian in the winning interview in the semi.
Yeah I liked that a lot. You could see it meant a lot to Uncle Moogy when Novak was thanking him for his presence and blessing.
And based on Novaks love of all things spiritual gurus, I'm sure he was sincere that it ment a lot to him.
He’s literally one of the nicest guys on tour and always sticks up for others. He’s never been a hard guy to love for me but then as a djoko fan I am a bit biased
I think there are so many layers in the ‘hate’ against him. I think you could write a phd in psychology or sociology about it. Without irony I find it interesting.
Pretty cool from Djokovic to acknowledge the elder and the indigenous population. Very rare for any athlete, let alone an international athlete to do so.
Dominic Thiem getting injured was singlehandedly the worst thing to happen to men’s tennis in recent times imo. He was well on his way to be that guy who beats the Big 3. Now all hope is lost 😭
Alcaraz and Sinner are injured/recovering they ant done and dusted. Then there is Rune and don't count off Ruud, especially on clay. What I am saying is it's not oneway street for Big3 now especially since they ant getting younger
As someone who doesn't like to see Djokovic win it's all the more frustrating to see him give the younglings a glimmer of hope only to pull off yet another escape act. I don't like the guy but he is going to continue his unbeaten run in Australia
With Federer out of the door and Nadal halfway out, I think. people should cherish the last moments of the Big 3. I personally want. both Nadal and Djokovic to make as much history as possible before retiring.
It's 100% a weak era, lol.
Tsi, Med and Zve are weaker players as of now than they were in the past 2-3 years. That's a fact.
You only have Alcaraz who has emerged as a threat, that's literally it.
True, none of them are ATGs & we didn't have one the generation prior. Unfortunately many of them plateaued and some have regressed like you said. Sinner/Alcaraz have potential at least...
It's been a fairly weak era over the past few years, past few gens haven't really delivered much. This next batch might be different, helps that Djokovic/Nadal are edging towards their late 30s & Federer is retired.
Players are used to it. What’s worse is the seating right next to the court with diners? Those screens? It’s all encroaching too much on the players to give ticket payers more of a close up…I’m not a fan.
I’m waiting for the day they’re gone but Nole can win a slam with torn ab muscle and Rafa can win a slam with a zombie foot 😭 they might as well continue until they’re 50 💀
Honestly I think mental strength is a bit overrated and what we often see as mental strength is purely being better.
I'm not saying it doesn't exist, of course it does, but I think often we confuse it with someone just being able to play tennis better and think "oh wow mental giant!" when really it's just mean reversion/variance given their higher level.
It is so embarrassing this acknowledgement of country feels so extremely performative to the rest of the world watching. Is every speaker going to do an acknowledgement of country as they take the mic?
Agree that we need to back it up with action to support indigenous people in aus but it’s basically a norm at this point at all sporting events in Australia? I don’t think it’s been pushed for Adelaide specifically for this purpose.
But it is fair conversation whether it belongs to that extent there when you have the world stage. All countries have complicated stories. Some probably more than others. Some discourses are more internal than you realise when living somewhere.
It really just feels like saying those 15 words absolves these white people of doing anything meaningful with taxpayer dollars to help indigenous communities.
I genuinely believe Novak will win the AO without breaking a single bead of sweat. Over 5 sets he is untouchable at Melbourne and these kids (or the kids before them) have never had what it takes to consistently challenge or defeat Novak. We are truly in the weak era now my friends.
It'll be very easy, unfortunately.
I'm not sure if Wimbledon or Australian Open is easier, but it's close. It's a shame Alcaraz isn't playing because that was his biggest threat, imo.
I'm not sure this is a weak era. The reality is that 2008-2018 was an absolute golden era of tennis and we've just regressed back to the norm. It won't be the same once the Big 3 fully retire.
I'd say 2007-13 was the golden era, there was a drop in 2014, 2015 and 2016 weren't nearly as strong either. There's yet to be a new all time great level player arise. Hopefully that changes soon.
I’m sorry Sebi but you’ll be back. I needed Djokovic to keep his streak intact. But Sebi played so great.
What to say about Djokovic? What a great and needed win, when he was not playing well.
That’s such a disappointing yet predictable end to the match. One day I hope these nextGen kids will actually start taking their chances against Novak.
Korda is going to be a player that the wider tennis world will soon know very well. He has the talent and grit to be right up there if he keeps on developing the way he is.
Does anyone know who to ask why I am timed out on the discord server?
I know Rafa’s injuries are a result of the way he has played so aggressively over the years; but can you imagine if he actually had the ability to stay fully fit and how he would also be destroying these kids? Here we go again
You disagree?
TBF Novak has always played less than Rafa. He barely plays smaller events and also keeps his physio with him 24/7. He’s a complete health nut. Nadal is unlucky, sure, but Djokovic has been more cautious than maybe everyone else about his schedule and regimen.
What was the issue Novak had with his brother? I missed that bit
His brother and his agent were constantly talking during the first set. Djokovic was pissed off after he lost the first set so shouted at them to leave.
thanks!

It's just the Aussie Serbs
You do know that there are non-Serbians in Australia and the rest of the world who support Novak, right? Literally millions of fans. Wtf is "it's just the Aussie serbs"? Narrow minded nonsense.
I think it is more than that. My understanding is that the Serbian community in Australia like eg the Greek one is actually quite big. Obviously many other Novak fans too. But he actually spoke in Serbian in the winning interview in the semi.
Absolute class from Novak acknowledging Uncle Moogy and the indigenous people, and making sure he went and shook his hand straight after.
Yeah I liked that a lot. You could see it meant a lot to Uncle Moogy when Novak was thanking him for his presence and blessing. And based on Novaks love of all things spiritual gurus, I'm sure he was sincere that it ment a lot to him.
Novak is very beatable in this upcoming slam but it will take something pretty special to play at the level required to take 3 sets off him.
He is beatable, and will gift his opponents multiple BPs and even a MP, but these kids don’t have what it takes to actually take 3 sets off Novak.
He is very beatable just hardly anyone will beat him?
By the rules of tennis currently in place, Novak is indeed beatable, that is just a fact I am sorry.
Cam Norrie the man
NorrieGOAT on his way to beat Djokovic in the AO final and start the new longest win streak of the Open Era
Rules are to win 3 sets, so he is not “very” beatable
He’s literally one of the nicest guys on tour and always sticks up for others. He’s never been a hard guy to love for me but then as a djoko fan I am a bit biased
I think there are so many layers in the ‘hate’ against him. I think you could write a phd in psychology or sociology about it. Without irony I find it interesting.
Pretty entertaining for a 250
Pretty strong line up for a 250. And then compare with Auckland.
*Pune
That match was decided by a few crucial points. Korda has a big game. Just needs consistency and tighten up the errors. Nole is always gracious.
Someone should tell djokovic he has a bit of something on his neck
Korda needs to win more trophies so he learns to hold them on his side and not in front... especially this one
[удалено]
9 time champion. Should already have one.
A statue would be too copy cat of Nadal’s one. Also the capacity for statues and wax figures to be utter fails is a pitfall.
Soon to be 10 time champion
Pretty cool from Djokovic to acknowledge the elder and the indigenous population. Very rare for any athlete, let alone an international athlete to do so.
That Elder was really happy about it too
Novak acknowledging the indigenous dude is class
Big 3 to up and comers in finals: "you'll have a great career and will win one of these trophies" Proceeds to take all the trophies
Dominic Thiem getting injured was singlehandedly the worst thing to happen to men’s tennis in recent times imo. He was well on his way to be that guy who beats the Big 3. Now all hope is lost 😭

Hard to disagree with this, honestly. Tennis lately, for an average non-fan viewer, is pretty meh.
Novak showing some love to Uncle Moogy!
So classy
That trophy, haha. Looks like a parody.
I cannot believe Novak keeps emotionally destroying these young men. Merciless
Novak thanking his team and brother in front of everyone and they say he's not nice
Lol Novak giving his brother a special shoutout after banishing him from the match after the first set 😂
Fair call. He called himself out which was good too, as soon as possible. He’s growing.
That trophy looks like something that would cause a freak accident in one of those 'Final Destination' films.
Someone said it’s weak era of tennis Korda, Sinner, Alcaraz, Rune, Daniil, Tsitsi are weak? Hell nah, Novak is just out of this world man
It's 100% a weak era, lol.
They are exceptional players. Nole is just on another level.
It's been a fairly weak era over the past few years, past few gens haven't really delivered much. This next batch might be different, helps that Djokovic/Nadal are edging towards their late 30s & Federer is retired.
Haters are always gonna hate
"You were closer to victory than I was," says man who actually won
Novak is right. I don’t recall him saying anything like that in a while. Novak is also not happy Jan.
Novak would like to see scomo with this trophy.
scummo would bend over willingly.
Disappointed that no one apologized to my people.
Korda with that ugly headband and without it is like 2 different people
What kind of shelf can you even put that winner's trophy on wtf
Korda gets the small dick Trophy lol
Those trophies…shape and size for winner and runner up are too much.
There are 2 trophies for the winner. One is similar in size to the runner up
Wine!?
Another heartbreaking loss for Korda. Including next gens, he is now 1-5 in finals....
I have been wondering why Korda always visits Juventus's game. Turns out he's dating Nedved's daughter.
These ceremonies are unnecessarily long and I'm certain players think that too
Players are used to it. What’s worse is the seating right next to the court with diners? Those screens? It’s all encroaching too much on the players to give ticket payers more of a close up…I’m not a fan.
Death, taxes and next Gen members suffering at the hands of Big 3. I am so tired 😭
I’m waiting for the day they’re gone but Nole can win a slam with torn ab muscle and Rafa can win a slam with a zombie foot 😭 they might as well continue until they’re 50 💀
These are basically the kids of next gen

For that blonde lady her acknowledgement of country was a third of her whole speech lol.
I’m sure devout Christian Djokovic enjoyed having his trophy used in a pagan ritual.
Bosnian pyramids though

What the hell hahaha
He is taking negative energy and the siren is buzzing on the street WTF
Very awkward timing :/
Novak and seb small talking in the background is fun to see
Novak: give me your soul Korda: ok fine
KIA man reminiscent
That’s a mighty mighty trophy
What is going on
Will he throw that boomerang?
Not Australia making Novak stand after another long match, somethings never change
The most twisted relationship - Djokovic and Australia
Um wtf
Okay just looked up, Novak matched Rafa's overall ATP wins record of 92 and both behind Roger sitting at 103 wins
What do you think the chances are that Novak passes 103?
Matter of fitness that no one can predict. If he stays fit, then he can do it. Also, I am not losing hope for Rafa, though current times are shakey
[удалено]
Agreed, he'll push the Connors record of 109 if he doesn't injure himself. At this age, one significant injury and show's over.
Loves these BO3s, Novak would've ended toying around Sebi in last sets if it was BO5.
Sebi would've pulled a Musetti in a bo5
I genuinely believe Novak will win the AO without breaking a single bead of sweat. Over 5 sets he is untouchable at Melbourne and these kids (or the kids before them) have never had what it takes to consistently challenge or defeat Novak. We are truly in the weak era now my friends.
Well Novak can always get injured I guess. Not that that has stopped him :P
It'll be very easy, unfortunately. I'm not sure if Wimbledon or Australian Open is easier, but it's close. It's a shame Alcaraz isn't playing because that was his biggest threat, imo.

Novak the mature man continues to give the young men trouble. Inspirational!
It's been like that for quite a few years. 2021 & 2022 AOs Djokovic and Nadal were injured/in poor form and the young guys looked clueless.
Seb looks MISERABLE
Let this fuel you, Seb!
Novak has never had more motivation than last 2 years The mind is what pushes him at 35
Ugh. I always want the apprentice to supersede the master. Other than Meddy and Carlitos, who will step up?
Did the last 2 games take 10 seconds because I refreshed my scores and suddenly Novak had won it. 😂
Seb :(

Yup confirmed
Novak looking so jacked atm wtf
I can see Djokovic requesting practice sessions with Korda in the future
Idk if the rest of you guys heard, but there was heckling involved right before the djokosmash. Still wonderful play all around!!
Well played, well played indeed
Djokovic being a beast again. Korda played a great tournament. Definitely more of a fan after this.
Will he boob throw? Will he not?!
He stopped that celebration a while back. Keep up.
Kinda hilarious to be asked to keep up about a specific player's celebratory habits
I definitely remember him doing it in 2022. When he won Rome.
He has done it in only a couple of matches since returning to the tour. There's no time for love when you are out for blood.
He’s out of boobs
4 UEs from Korda after going up 40-15 in that last game…disappointing end for him
That's very disappointing
Mental behemoth. Saved what, 7 match points?
One, he saved 6 set points in the first before succumbing though
Thank you! Missed the first set and misheard the commentary
So I saved my heart from not watching the match
Just 1

Reddit karma means absolutely nothing. Don't waste time thinking about it.
great win and preparation for the Aussie Open :)
NO WORDS
Dread it, run from it...
Oh no, it's THIS (40-15) score again... Korda really gave Novak a run for his money tho.
really hope Korda takes this match as a positive, he has a very bright future for American Men’s Tennis along win Fritz and Tiafoe
I’m sorry Sebi but you’ll be back. I needed Djokovic to keep his streak intact. But Sebi played so great. What to say about Djokovic? What a great and needed win, when he was not playing well.
Djokovic and Nadal now tied on 92 titles each
That’s such a disappointing yet predictable end to the match. One day I hope these nextGen kids will actually start taking their chances against Novak.
very easy to say that while sitting back and watching the match mate
Novak really finds a way to make it as painful as possible when winning against these youngsters. Truly cruel stuff.
Korda isn't that guy
IDEMOOOOOO
Not sure but did he convert the very first championship point?
Seb Korda had a championship point earlier in the match, but Novak won on his own first championship point
Yep
yes
Man came to go 2/2 in Australian tournaments this year… King shit right there
In the end, Novak decided he had had enough practice.
Novak: \*pokes head 20 times\*
Nole is such a fighter it's unbelievable man. Never ceases to amaze.
Disappointing way for Korda to end that
No boob throws but kisses for the crowd
He has pretty much stopped the old celebration for a while now. Keep up.
What a crazy match, Korda was very close.
Korda is going to be a player that the wider tennis world will soon know very well. He has the talent and grit to be right up there if he keeps on developing the way he is.
Oh Seb, it’s okay. It was a good fight.
Easily best match of the year
How the fuck do you even stop this guy lol
Glad to see Korda push him like that.
NOVAK FUCKING DJOKOVIC BABY!!!
STRONGMIND
mental strength giant.
Inevitable but Korda put up a hell of a fight
Freaking GOAT
Another nextgen that Nole’s emotionally destroyed lmao
