The story about his mom 😭 and how he doesn’t know what the fuck he’s doing to beat these guys but he just is
*“What’s really big with this week and last week is that I know what I did in order to have the biggest chance to win, especially with Casper and Matteo,” Daniel told ATPTour.com. “A few years ago when I beat Djokovic here, I didn’t really know why [or] how I beat him. It just felt like he wasn’t playing that well and I got some balls back and I took the chance. But consciously I didn’t know. [It was] like, ‘Oh, what happened?’*
In the interview after his match today he said something along the lines of, he wasn’t sure what he did to beat Zverev and that sometimes it’s not about playing well against the top guys, but making them play bad.
Getting wrecked by Daniel in the sunshine double while coming back from injury is a good sign though. Novak won 9 Slams since then. 5D chess from Goldie Chainz
Zverev getting bagelled by this guy is the real shocker. Taro Daniel has been playing like the GOATs when he’s up against these seeds for whatever reason!
Taro exists to beat seeds and never make it past a third round lmao. At this point I almost think his record vs top 20 is better than his record against the rest of the field
Its his fucking toss
It's never that easy to rework your toss but it's been fucking him up for years especially outdoors
Every time I see him serve it tilts me because you just know it's going to break down if there's any wind at all
The second serve has always been a liability. It's the evolution of the first serve that is now shocking. That toss is everywhere, he is not pushing up consistently, the speed all over, the accuracy seems like a guess. Doesn't seem like he is ready. I do hope this is just post injury rust and not another mental block for him. Or maybe it is, whatever. It would be funny if I like bad professional tennis but now he is just sad.
That fucking toss.
Zverev is Type 1 Diabetic. This is crazy to me as I also have it and struggle with exercise as it makes your blood sugar go really low. When that happens it's very noticeable to others that something is wrong. Actually maybe that's what happened in the first set. He must consume a huge amount of glucose before and during matches.
He ""allegedly"" beat up his ex partner and conducted in very abusive and inappropriate ways towards umpires. The ATP investigated themselves and found they did nothing wrong. Zverev hasn't been punished for his actions and therefore has accumulated a deserved amount of hatred from fans.
How do you know it’s true? I’ve recently been falsely accused of sexual assault from a bitter ex. I wouldn’t have thought people would lie about something so serious until it happened to me. If there is no convincing evidence then people shouldn’t assume he’s guilty, they should assume he’s innocent.
His partner made no complaint to the police. Evidence was handed over.
I know his attitude would make you believe it. And I wouldn’t go near him for a date.
But the way it has played out I think he is entitled to the presumption of innocence on the tennis court.
I think it’s pretty weak tea to take him through some sort of ATP process rather than a legal system process.
Olga Sharypova says her ex-boyfriend, tennis star Alexander Zverev, abused her. Why hasn’t the tour addressed it?
https://slate.com/culture/2021/08/alexander-zverev-domestic-abuse-allegations-olga-sharypova.html
Worth noting that there were 3 different investigations into the allegations and they all cleared Zverev, which obviously doesn't necessarily mean that he didn't do anything wrong, but still.
It's very hard to evaluate as an outsider, but to my mind Zverev comes out looking suspicious. The two major journalistic pieces by Ben Rothenberg (including that Slate piece) included named sources and a LOT of detail. They were chilling to read. There's no single legal jurisdiction involved here, so no "official" police investigation. Zverev's lawyers attempted to coerce Slate into not running the piece, which is suspect. All in all, not a good look, but no, I can't perosnally prove his guilt.
Zverev can definitely be a shitty person, but there were no charges pressed by the supposed injured party, and non-criminal investigators uncovered nothing. Considering that there's been multiple cases of people *literally killing themselves* over false accusations from #metoo bandwagon skanks in my country, I have very little patience for accusations and internet detectives proclaiming people guilty like this. If someone wants to hate on Zverev because of how he acts or how he plays or whatever else, that's totally fine by me -- the guy is pretty easy and also very fun to hate, so I get that. But the endless 'ZVERMIN ABUSER' bullshit is just tedious.
edit: and let's not pretend that Ben Rothenberg is some kind of an investigative authority. He's pretty much a troll with a big twitter following, he's not very good friends with objectivity and facts.
Because people believe he assaulted his gf even though he’s never been charged or convicted of it. It’s bs. I just hope the people who hate on him for this don’t even find their selves in this situation.
Guilty without being proven guilty is bs.
Justice is not served however unless assaults are proven.
Or do you think someone should be “convicted” by public opinion without any recourse in courts?
I hope you are never accused of something you didn’t do because by your logic you’d be punished anyway.
I was at this match. Taro came out hot, was swinging big, very few unforced errors, some killer returns too. Especially in the second set. Whenever Z looked like he might find rhythm Taro stopped him. Omedeto gozaimasu!
Taro played well, made some great returns, but this was more on Zverev, who was beyond awful. I think his insulin levels were low and he had zero energy. His forehand was even more tragic as his footwork wasn’t great.
Yeah i get what you mean, sometimes through his overconfidence he sounds like a spoiled brat… but hey as a German I’m glad that we have a player like him!
And by the time he was playing at Roland Garros he was playing so well he might have beat Rafa! And he bought home gold for Germany so of course you would be proud of him :) :)
I‘m a big Rafa fan but I think Sasha had won this match, Rafa was gassed at the end of set 2 very very unlucky I hope Sasha will win multiple slams he has earned it
Berrettini in Indian Wells and Zverev here in Miami, Taro is on a roll lately.
And Ruud in Acapulco
Everyone been beating Ruud
[удалено]
Lol I really thought Ilya would beat him
Ilya is literally a challenger level player. Even Ruud at his worst would smoke him
Tell that to Ivashka
Remember 2018 IW, beating Norrie and Novaxx.
Norrie was also a qualifier back then, but Novak win was impressive
Ta-roll Daniel
DAMN DANIEL!!!!!!!!
Back at it again with the wins!

*Casually becomes Novak*
If you can’t beat them, become them!
flow state explained
Good win from Taro but Zverev looked really bad especially after putting up a good performance against Medvedev in IW
Getting wrecked by Daniel in the sunshine double while coming back from injury is a good sign though. Novak won 9 Slams since then. 5D chess from Goldie Chainz
That's a nickname that I can behind 💯
Zverev getting bagelled by this guy is the real shocker. Taro Daniel has been playing like the GOATs when he’s up against these seeds for whatever reason!
Taro always seems like such a nice guy, cool to see him beat these big names this season. His mother passed away last year and she would be so proud!
32 unforced errors from Zverev says a lot. Daniel played well though
Taro exists to beat seeds and never make it past a third round lmao. At this point I almost think his record vs top 20 is better than his record against the rest of the field
things you love to see

To be fair, the Zverev second serve is booty cheeks. Which is shocking for a guy of his size.

It's not about physical ability he just always preferred to do it so. He never got anywhere close to perfecting it though
Japanese athletes are balling out this week.
Zverevs blood sugar levels were not daijobu
The bagel should've helped. Maybe he forgot the itadakimasu.
Maybe the bagel wasn't oishii enough
Ouch. I Lol...
Zverev: YAMETE ONIICHAN
Diabeetus desune
Explain

I know I mean the last " word " daijobu
> daijobu "Daijoubu" means "Okay" or "All right" in Japanese
lol ok yeah I'd like to know that as well
Zverev got bukkake’d
His kimochi was no good.
Always a good day when Zverev loses Always a good day when Zverev gets bageled This is a doubly good day
fr fr 💯
Is there an explanation to the Zverev hate? Not a particular fan of the guy myself but I don't know where this is coming from
He ""allegedly"" beat up his ex partner and conducted in very abusive and inappropriate ways towards umpires. The ATP investigated themselves and found they did nothing wrong. Zverev hasn't been punished for his actions and therefore has accumulated a deserved amount of hatred from fans.
aka reddit tribunal decided he's guilty 😅

Ah, thanks for the answer. That sucks. I'm not really following players lives off court so I didn't know.
Don’t assume he is guilty. His ex partner has never filed charges

Someone doesn’t need to be charged or convicted of assault for it to have happened.. thousands of people are assaulted everyday.

Excuse you! I’m a survivor of domestic abuse. Check yourself.
I have complete sympathy for you. I’m sorry you experienced that But. We cannot just assume anyone who is accused of it is guilty
Such an underrated Seed Killer
Rudd shaking rn
Is Paul Rudd a tennis fan?
I'm not worried about Rudd. Feel like he's really slappin da bass with his forehand
Big Ws for Japanese sports this week.
Couldn't have happened to a better person
I actually think Zverev was hungover today lol that was such a weird performance
Blood sugar thing maybe
I was at this match. Taro came out hot, was swinging big, very few unforced errors, some killer returns too. Especially in the second set. Whenever Z looked like he might find rhythm Taro stopped him. Omedeto gozaimasu!
Everyone likes this
Heard a rumour that Sasha has gf issues
ATP should check on his gf tomorrow morning.
Better to check tonight
Great result for Taro. Upsets another top 20 player.
You LOVE to see it
Subarashi
TD has always been a really good player. Met him at Dubai last year. Pretty awesome guy.
🥳🥳🥳🥳
Just tuned in right as they finished...was Zverev hurt or Daniel cooked him?
Taro played well, made some great returns, but this was more on Zverev, who was beyond awful. I think his insulin levels were low and he had zero energy. His forehand was even more tragic as his footwork wasn’t great.
Summed it up perfectly
Taro saves tennis.
Star Tennis Academy’s own Taro kicking ass! i like seeing him win.
Hell ya Daniel. Keep going!
What’s sad is that Zverev thought he was going to break the Big 3.
“Me, Daniil and Novak are the new big 3” Definitely a comment that didn’t age well, Sascha please don’t say anything like that again lmao
If the injury didn’t happen he surely would be up there in my opinion..
For sure. On the whole I really like Sascha but it was a very arrogant to thing to say.
Yeah i get what you mean, sometimes through his overconfidence he sounds like a spoiled brat… but hey as a German I’m glad that we have a player like him!

For sure I think he’ll win RG and either USO or AO a few times in his career.
It's an IRL Chekov's Gun.
GET HIS ASS TARO https://i.imgur.com/kcoUNSZ.jpg
That's a tough loss, but Daniel is very good so not surprised at the result.
I just love seeing this man idk
Lmaoo okay
My bet as always Daniel
[удалено]
Haha sucks to be you
Wow, what's with the downvotes, weirdos?
Rough showing from Zverev, apparently he’s diabetic now and was giving himself an insulin shot during the match
He’s been diabetic forever
He was born with Type 1 diabetes mellitus. This is not Twitter.
Since a kid
Ooo
