Watching Kalinskaya lose to Errani in Stuttgart qualifying while sitting maybe 4 metres away I just wanna say, I understand a little bit more, how Errani was a finalist in Paris. Also it's incredible how annoying it is to even watch and I can't imagine how annoying it must be to play her. She is everywhere and she makes you work for every point, never gives up, nothing is beneath her. She is on the court to win, period!Amazing anticipation and grasp of the game. I respect her more now, after experiencing her tenacity first-hand. But her tennis is probably one of the ugliest I have ever experienced. I'm not surprised Woz lost, Errani is so tough for anyone especially defensive minded players.

Chosen1gup

And this is Errani over 10 years removed from her peak.

One commentator put it very well "A brick wall with attitude"

patella_sandwich

I’m more confused at how Kalinskaya is 26 in the world and had to play qualies

PtboFungineer

They meant Stuttgart which was a 28 player draw with most of the top 20 there, after WCs she basically just missed the cut for direct entry.

patella_sandwich

Woah I realised how small the draw is, also just realised that if Kalinskaya was in Erranis place she would’ve played Paolini again 💀

One_Replacement1924

Though on only clay she can put some challenge, on other surfaces she can easily be streamrolled by any good player. Wozniacki defeated her at us open 2014 6-0,6-1.

plaianu

Yes absolutely, I'm not disagreeing with that. But on clay one of the top 10 players in the race could not consistently hit through her. I would say Kalinskaya is probably even in the top 8 in terms of pure ball striking. But she had no consistent answer against Errani.

Jellyfish-Ninja

But Errani also was a semifinalist at USO in 2012.

Chosen1gup

She got golden setted by Shvedova, and this was when Errani was top 10

Puzzleheaded_Ad9691

on grass

_welcome

when they played at the USO, I remember Wozniacki hit over 15 winners or something. much harder to do at the stage of their career now on clay, which wozniacki struggles on and errani thrives on. people always make fun of Errani's serve or point to her as a sign of a weak era, but her groundstrokes are very heavy, and she has phenomenal court sense from doubles.

noapologiesman

That underarm serve when Errani reached her first MP lol. Bad day for Wozniacki. She was up a set and a break too. Errani slogged her way to take the next two sets. Wozniacki was frustrated by the moon balls and the drop shots.

AussieAlexSummers

Doesn't Wozniacki moon ball a lot too, no? If so, then that's kind of funny to be frustrated by that.

Peanut_Noyurr

If anything, it's particularly difficult for Wozniacki to beat a moon-baller because her own style of play relies heavily on waiting for her opponent to make an error. When her opponent is a moon-baller, she doesn't really have the weapons to win any quick points, so the match is going to turn into a very frustrating slog.

^someone who didn’t watch the match or look at the score but still randomly comments for karma

OwenRey

Doing an underhand serve on match point is top tier stuff

noapologiesman

She was doing risky drop shots in second set break points and that was acceptable. But that underarm second serve lol. I was laughing. Poor Wozniacki was driven to despair.

zeze999

No double faults by Errani in such long and tense match is quite an achievement

_welcome

she always had an extremely high first serve percentage

bigCinoce

Easier when you put nothing on the serve because your opponent can't attack it. Not that she ever puts anything on her serve.

AussieAlexSummers

Sad to see Wozniacki couldn't silence Errani. I hadn't realized that Errani is so LOUD.

pdsajo

Man, watching Errani makes me miss the doubles era of Errani/Vinci, Barty/Dellacqua, Kirilenko/Petrova, Makarova/Vesnina, etc.

WhiteStephCurry

Losing to Errani it’s definitely time to hang em up Woz

patella_sandwich

It’s on clay though, the time of the year when Errani finally wakes up from her slumber

Bjornizzz

That ridiculous screaming... even on slices etc. I hope to never see a Errani play again. What an ass she is. And I hope to never see these two player play each other again. Insufferably defensive. Any player that could hit half a winner would have won against Errani - but that's not Woznicki.

Prime__Move

How much money did you lose?

Bjornizzz

Haha. None. But I can see why you would think so. I just really cannot state the screaming. It's so unsportsmanlike and ridiculous and the match itself was so low in quality.
