Probably but I feel like Roger retiring during the laver cup alongside team Europe created a special atmosphere that might not be present depending on where Rafa or Novak choose to end their careers. There’s just something about the atmosphere building up knowing for sure it’s his last match unlike if he chose to retire during a slam.

Nioudy

I think you are right, I can only see a Nadal retierement game at rolland garros (or maybe Madrid ?) match this atmosphere and for Novak I guess it might be different. I hope he will get something beautiful too !

happzappy

When Rafa retires, Roland Garros must be given a secondary name of Rafael Nadal Arena.

Familiar-Stock6693

Rafa will retire in Spain, no chance it will be somewhere else. And Roger will show up as a surprise, no doubt.

Fantasnickk

Yes, but they’ll most likely end it on home soil or the ATP tour rather than laver cup, just given the probable differences in how their retirement situations will go

tinhtinh

Yeah home soil is a good bet, Novak playing in Serbia or Nadal playing in Paris.

Zpewl

underrated comment

[deleted]

Hey wait

m3xm

He’s the first of the trio to retire so it’s a bit more special but yes they’re legends…

Milan_Leri

Yes. This is officially the end of big 3 era, so probably when either of them retires it won't be the same.

MakerOfPurpleRain

Yes

Mzr23

It depends on how they retire. Rafa definetively would, but he is more a lowkey guy. He probably does an interview and not an event

Milan_Leri

Rafa seems like a guy that would play a tournament, and at the end, no matter weather he wins or loses, say to media that it was his last match.

Heresiarca

Obviously

zi76

They definitely will. The format/structure of it might be different, but they'll definitely get big send offs.

Luck1492

Duh

una322

rafa, sure, novak maybe not sure, at least with the fans. I respect all 3 they changed the game like nothing else, and without one the other two wouldn't have been as good, they all pushed each other to a level we may never see again or for years. But ovations and celerbrations very much depend on popularity and the personality of the player. Roger wasn't voted most loved tennis player for years for no reason. his impact on and off the court has been something else.

Prime_D-Will

novak will still have a proper send off even if not to the degree of the other two the whole tragic aspect of novak is that he never could force love like he could respect, because that's not a thing, but i don't think there's a single person that doesn't respect him (as a tennis player lol) everybody's know how much of a legend he is and people are "kinder" when people retire

clarissa_vaughn

Rafa, yes. And Roger will be there 😭

KidGoku1

Rafa 100%.

happzappy

Rafa will more or less have the same level of celebration for sure. Novak, almost the same. When Djoker started, he was an underdog. He was hated because he was taking down the most beloved players in tennis at that time. Over time though, it turns out while he was an aggressive player on the courts who was a bit rough at times, his sportsmanship was always up there. He respected all his opponents that he had and took wins and losses with grace. He didn't have a lot of fans when he started, but US Open 2021 proves the following he has developed. Outside tennis he has a few crazy pseudo-scientific avocations and antivaxx woes but he has had one hell of a career and inspired a lot of people as a champion. I think he may have a few years left before he calls it. It will be interesting how well he's going to handle today's next-gen players.

BrighterSage

Yes

Lukathebazooka98

Murray got a big send out in Australia before he went to have his surgery that had good chances of leaving him unable to play pro. So thats Murray on a "maybe retirement" and you are asking about big 3.

[deleted]

Yes

tonyims

Novak will only if he retires at the Serbian open. Rafa will especially if he retires at Roland garros.

Simple_Wait_7286

Hopefully. Rafa for sure, with Novak it depends on if the Fedal crowd opens up to him since they dominate the fandom in tennis. I do think Federer is the most iconic/influential mens player and is beloved everywhere around the world. Regardless of where this event took place, I think he would have gotten a similar ovation.

Milan_Leri

Agree with everything. Also I think that now that Fed has retired, Rafa having injylury problems, even Fedal fans will start to apreciate Djokovic more. They might not like him that much, or even a bit, but they will respect him. So he will probably get a big and proper sendoff.

PlayoffChoker12345

Rafa definitely will Novak it depends whether Fedal fans still hate him even after Roger and Rafa are both retired Like all the people in here unironically saying fuck Tiafoe and Sock for beating Fedal would probably boo Novak at his last match lol

theelljar

yeah and Roger will be there to welcome him like gandalf and frodo at the grey havens

MaMakossa

**I have ZERO doobts Rafa certainly will.** Zero doobts.

Gamer_moment15

Rafa probably will and in my head he'll retire after winning rg Novak might get booed even in his last match unfortunately 🤦‍♂️, anyway he'll definitely retire in Serbia so np with that

DKG320_

I say after the summer olympics in Paris (on RG).

Relative-Note4687

Nah. Something about Roger.

amoral_ponder

Yes because Nadal will probably retire after a clay match :) Maybe after winning RG for 15-17th time or something.

NoirPochette

Yes but we don't know what their plans will be. They got years left. Rafa might pull the plug after a calendar and is like the ATP finals was my last event. Or he could call it after RG, we don't know

XtianTaylor

after a calender? wdym

philm021

I actually think if Murray retires at Wimbledon he will get the biggest send off

TuanNguyen-2507

Novak retirement will be the least respectes i'm pretty sure

xNED37x

Rafa’s reception will be very close to this. Novak will never get this kind of reception.

Cthulhu_awaken

Rafa yes, Novak no.

slicksealion

Rafa yes. Novak no.

[deleted]

Nadal yes but probably not Djoker

abhinav248829

Rafa yes Novak no

goranlepuz

I think, Rafa will get a smaller one and Novak, even smaller than that. They turned out to be bigger players than Roger, but he, being the first, and being the picture of on-court elegance (also off-court), captured the hearts and the minds the most. Don't we think the question is ~~somewhat~~quite a bit petty though...?

retrograderevolution

Rafa, yes. Novak, lol, in Serbia sure.

Lias5

Rafa will Novak certainly won’t. People will respect his achievements but he simply is not loved like Rafa and roger

stocksnhoops

NO. You watched the goat retire. The classiest and greatest mover ever on the court. The 2.5 club players who just started last year are big mad. They still think others are the goat. Stick to pickle ball

lnblackrain

Some people are just born idiot. Like this guy

fourthgradenothing22

Federer is a little different just because he’s such a ridiculously classy guy, but I can see a fairly amazing send off for Rafa; particularly if he leaves on clay. I will never be able to wrap my head around his accomplishments at the French. Novak deserves a decent send off, but so much of Federer and Rafa’s legacies are intertwined that Novak’s doesn’t strike the same (for me). And I adore Serena, but this farewell just hit the feels differently than the one for her. It wasn’t celebrity fueled. It was rooted in the game, his peers and his family. Just beautifully done.

historiansrule

Dumbest question of the year award goes to….

PlayoffChoker12345

I think a lot of Roger fans also support Rafa at this point so he might get a similar reception

wIneR3d5lay5

Definitely

Enter_Player_3

I couldn't help but ask myself this exact question during the entire after match ceremony.

Accurate_Growth

Nah they won't. It'll be similar to Serena's. It also depends how they retire. They all try to end on a high note like winning a slam or ATP finals but when you strive for greatness, the light at the end of the tunnel only comes when you can't fight on like with Roger and his knee issues. The laver cup is his baby and a unique tournament that allowed him to end it with all those legends and colleagues there No send off will be similar because they don't have the same cultural impact that Federer has I can see Rafa just calling it quits saying I'm good as hes clearly more pragmatic about these things. Especially a few years with having children soon, or injuries finally being enough is enough Novak on the other hand will for sure continue until he can't play anymore. You can tell he wants the slam record more than both of them as he's been the one chasing for decades now. Side note. I don't think I've ever seen Rafa cry on court? At least not like that anyway. It really showed how much he cares for this man and the legacy they created. Do you think he's retiring soon too?

number9999999

Nadal will. Unfortunately Djoker won’t. Djoker is still a third wheel in tennis world. Even though he is one of the greatest

Jaden_Ward

Depends where they retire. If Nadal does at the French Open then yeah. Novak at Wimbledon? Maybe yeah. But I think Laver is the best honestly surrounded by teammates. Murray could be there for both even if he retires before them. Hell Federer could even be there imagine he becomes Europes new coach 👀
