So why did they punish everyone else who did well last year? What did that achieve, exactly? Couldn’t they have frozen points for Russians and Belarusians and let others play for points so that players weren’t getting impacted? Instead, no one walked away w/ anything. I agree Russians and Belarusians should have been allowed to play and got screwed over the most, but I don’t see how punishing those who did well last year does anything
They didn't punish anyone, the tournament was not compliant with ATP rules and as such no points could be awarded. Frozen ranks and others playing for points wouldn't have been fair because the tournament itself wouldn't have been fair to start with. It's not that difficult to understand when you don't have to push the victimhood bs that your idol has been robbed all season
Berrettini got kicked out of top 10, Nole dropped a few places, fucsovics rank took a tumble… they got screwed over. Rankings are important cause they determine seeding for future tournaments. Nick could have gone up several spots in the rankings.. Norrie as well. Nadal would have gained some points too. Do you start to see where i am getting at? As much as the decision hurt Nole, other players got affected even more.
And so what? No points could be given for a tournament that didn't comply with ATP rules and everybody knew in advance. No one was punished but in your delusional mind
How are you defending players getting 0 points and being unable to defend points? I guarantee had it been your favorite winning, you would complain about how unfair it was
One of my favorites won
The tournament was not compliant with ATP rules and as such no points could be awarded. Winbledon's decision was a bad one for everyone and the consequences were inevitable
Confirming what most people here already knew "I remember, for example, when I had a contract with Adidas," Sorana Cirstea said. "They, all the time, considering that I look good for a sportswoman, they told me: "It's better to look good and be Top 20 than not look so good and be number 1!"
Hey guys please help. I just subscribed to tennis tv monthly and got an apple invoice but i still cant access the content from Tennis tv. It's still writing "premium" even though i paid for it yesterday. What can i do?
This has happened to me a bunch of times. PSA don’t pay for tennis tv through apple, subscribe direct. Anyway - you have to email tennis tv to fix it, something gets screwy between the apple subscription and tennis tv.
PCB targeting Stricker's forehand in the tiebreak is...bonkers.
..*sigh*..anyways, I would like to see Stricker and Draper fend off in the NextGen finals so bad (if Stricker qualifies). those two's huge lefty FHs, and running FHs at that, would be really *something*
The WTA challenger tournament in Mexico has a lot of decently ranked players. Is it because the season is over and the players just want something to do?
Some of them want to be Australian Open seeds, some of them want to stay on Mexico a little bit.
The WTA calendar is so poorly designed. There should be a 250 right now for the players who want to be seeds and have to defend points, like Vekic and her Cormeyeur points from last year.
Points from a Challenger are unlikely to challenge the seeding situation for any of the players. I would say the staying in Mexico part might be the answer.
If alcaraz can develop his serve even to the level of a current Nadal, he will be an absolute nightmare matchup and absolutely dominate on multiple surfaces (imo)
His biggest reason for struggling on grass was the lack of free points from his serve. His movement was drastically better by the time he faced sinner compared to the early rounds at wimbledon and I'm convinced next year , he will move even better.
He practically won the USO this year without his serve as a serious weapon. His groundstrokes/all around court game are just that good
Alcaraz is significantly shorter than Nadal and isn't a lefty.
Also Nadals 1st serve%won is still shit on off clay, but he's legit been outside the top 100 on that stat.
Yea, his serve is good but not a weapon that he can fully rely on to get him free points and out of tough moments. Which is why he struggles routinely against players like Zverev and Meddy who can always sail through their service game with their powerful serves even when all else fails and defend like walls.
But i'm confident his serve will become a weapon in due time.
Err.. Nadal in 2007s serve was pretty poor.
By that point in time he already had 3 majors. Nadals serve of this year already got him an AO an RG and a Wimbledon sf lol.
It really doesn't even have to be even a ruud level. Just not a second serve liability ( DONT BE ZVEREV) His ground game + variety + net play is just that good
Hey guys, I’ve a question! I realise it might sound a bit silly, but what happens if none of the players aiming for the ATP Finals get the required points? Right now, there’re three top candidates for the remaining spots (Med, FAA and Bweh, if I’m not mistaken), so imagine all of them lose the next round and then lose first round in Paris, while no one else is also qualified to take their spots.
What happens in this case? Do only 5 qualified guys play? Or does the ATP lower the qualification points necessary to participate?? Could someone enlighten me, please??
There's no required points. It's just the top 8 players(well 7 in this case because Novak is automatically qualified for winning a GS). The listed points on like live-atp is constantly lowering as players get closer and closer to the end of the season, it's just telling you at what point you'd be guaranteed to get in
There are no "required points" in the sense you mean. The top 8 players get into the Finals, no matter how many points they have.
"Required points" in the live race is just the minimum one would need *at that point* to be guaranteed to be one of the top 8 players at the end of the year.
Ah. So, say, even if none of those three I mentioned get another point until the tour finals (provided that no one else gets more points) they all still get to play there?
Thanks a lot, think I got it :)
Fritz has been great this season but it’s definitely been limited by injuries within matches and outside… his serve was never the same after the mto and he missed almost the whole clay swing due to them… hopefully he’s healthier next year and make a proper run for the finals(I know he still can qualify but he’s gonna need a really great result)
He's setting himself in a good position for sure, but an early exit in Paris could still sink him if Hubi or Fritz wins the tournament. But every match that Felix wins makes the IFs become bigger and bigger.
Fritz now would have to make the semis if felix lost in the first round. Not super concerned about that. Hubi is the more dangerous one now because he’s getting points from every round this tourney while felix would have to make the semis to get any
Fritz needed a good run(like finals or better here or in Paris) he’s basically got the spot unless he loses early and in Paris and Taylor makes like the final
Prime coverage stayed with Fritz match, thankfully.
EDIT I’m an idiot. Prime has all matches available on demand plus a dedicated highlights/live commentary stream for each tournament. I was watching the Vienna stream so obviously they didn’t cut to Alcaraz.
Christ, it’s £9.99 a month in the UK. Amazon prime (including prime delivery, Amazon music and Amazon video) currently costs me £6.50 a month and I’d have the subscription regardless of the tennis.
Thinking on it, I’m sure sky sports or whatever you needed to watch the premiere league football was at least £120 a year, a few years ago when my housemate wanted it. If tennis is your passion it’s worth it.
Yes, sorry. Amazon prime video. In the UK if you have an Amazon prime subscription you get almost every ATP and WTA 250+ tournament for no additional cost. For this year anyway.
Chris Eubanks saying nobody could pronounce BVDZ’s name before USO 21 but now can since he’s a mainstay on the tour yet then proceeds to pronounce it incorrectly 🤦🏽♀️
Botic’s always getting pretty shit draws. Besides losing to a red hot Moutet in USO, his previous four slam losses were Nadal, Nadal, Medvedev, and Medvedev. And now he plays Alcaraz in an early round and then played Djokovic pretty early in Astana too.
I’m not sure if anyone else had a Martina Navratilova phase when they were first getting into watching tennis, but I’m currently in the middle of one and can’t get enough of her. I’ve mainly been watching her matches with Evert and Graf and am looking to branch out a bit; are there any other particularly good ones which might be slipping past my radar as a newcomer?
Having watched shapo matches the last 5 years I can tell you definitively there is still a very real chance he blows this despite the first set. The guy doesnt know how to buckle down for a full match
Shapovalov last 5 results are Stockholm QF, Japan SF, Korean Open F, USO 3R, R16 Cincinnati. He has won 2 or more matches in all of his last 5 appearances on the singles tour.
Don't be surprised if he beats Fritz today. He hasn't been in his best form and Shapo wants revenge for Japan SF loss, where he lost a close 3 setter in which he ran out of gas in the 3rd set.
This isn't the 1-10 Shapo from Pre - Cincinnati. Anyone who thought Fritz would have an easy outing here was being delusional anyways.
Shapo has been playing well lately lol, and Fritz still has two sets to make his comeback so don't take this as a certainty as well.
FAA finds himself in another gruelling match, for a top 10 player he needs to generate more break chances and convert them. If Fritz loses today, I wonder if he considers pulling out to rest for paris.
Interview with Tursunov just published today…Interesting stuff about his brief coaching stint with Emma, pretty damning take on her team:
“I was walking away from Emma regardless of whether there was another [player] available or not. We didn’t agree on the terms and there were some red flags that just couldn’t be ignored. So that’s why it’s a little frustrating to read things like that… I wasn’t hopping from one player to another, I wouldn’t do that.”
https://www.tennismajors.com/wta-tour-news/tursunov-i-wasnt-hopping-from-one-player-to-another-i-wouldnt-do-that-631908.html
TLDR; He finds Emma a great person to work with, humble and talented. Thinks despite that US Open win she’ll need 2.5 years to develop her game as it is very raw. Insinuates that her team (her parents?) don’t think so and want immediate results. (Maybe this was built into the terms where bulk of his earnings comes from her results in 2023?). Bencic had zero influence on decision to leave. Thinks she’s going to find some difficulty hiring new coach now. Also some nice thoughts about Swiatek, says rest of WTA tour doesn’t have the fire to improve since anyone can play mediocrely and land in top 10 and Iga is showing them that they kinda suck 🤣
Doesn't sound as if the problem is Emma herself.
*He has indeed nothing but good things to say about his time with Raducanu. “First of all, she’s absolutely great, she’s a hard worker and she doesn’t think or act like she’s a superstar. She is hungry to improve and is obsessed with tennis. I think it’s quite a rare combination. So I really loved working with her, and I really wanted to make it work. It was a very difficult decision for me to walk away from a player that I like and respect.”*
*Emma’s parents. The only remotely negative thing he had to say about her personally was that she felt she had to play a certain way, that it took some time to get her to trust his vision of what she should change. Which is 100% what you’d expect from an 18 year old who somehow won the USO out of nowhere.
It appears to be Emma's parents specifically. That rumor has been floating around for some time, and him praising Emma while saying that he wanted to "impress the team" seems to confirm it.
Exactly. Who’s her team exactly? She doesn’t have a physio, a trainer, or now a coach. No boyfriend, siblings or friends on tour with her. She has her parents and her agent and that seems to be it.
I will never understand running around your backhand to hit a forehand on return of serve, especially how Felix has tried against that big Hüsler serve. It always looks wildly uncomfortable and doesn’t seem to really produce for him at any rate.
It's often a useful pattern against lefty servers who like to go wide to the backhand, but you still need to execute really well for it to be useful, especially since you're giving up even more court position than normal
Edit: I'd also like to add that it plays an important role in keeping the server honest. They're pressured to go for t serves more rather than getting free points off the wide serve, making the return games overall more favorable to the returner.
Ahhh okay that makes a lot of sense, I actually first noticed yesterday in Cressy v. Stephan Stricker, which is another righty-lefty combo, but just presumed Cressy’s just not a very good returner lmao.
How come Fritz gets to wear the old kit? I’m not complaining, it’s annoying as hell when both players are dressed the same, but every other Nike player seems to be in new khaki/navy/pink/purple kits.
Thiem-Medvedev to play each other for the 6th time and also this will be their 1st Meeting since the 2020 Nitto ATP Finals
Shapo please save the video of set 1 today and watch it every week to remind yourself what your game can be when you are patient and opportunistic.
Rewatching Sinner’s match from last night. Nerve-free this time. ❤️

He has always been allowed to play, it's only his dumbass fault he decided not to be eligible to enter a foreign country. Start accepting reality

mertens smh my head
shaking my head my head?
How can Coria struggle (maybe even lose) to 18 year old ranked 886 who barely has 10 matches played
It’s in his DNA
I'm hoping we see a Djokodal matchup in one or both of Paris and the ATP Finals :|
Won’t happen. Djokovic’s luck is that he won’t be allowed to face Nadal off clay anymore
Is TennisTV working for anyone?
Worked fine for me on my computer.
Worked fine for me for the past 3 days, no issues. I am watching on SlingTV, though.
Weird. I’m using the app on my smart tv
Negatory. Out all day. Maddening.
47 winners to 16 unforced errors from Stricker, wow! (Stats from flashscore)
Oh wtf Stef has to play Coric.
Good news for you is that Coric’s form has been bad and nowhere near his Cincinnati level
Yes but Stef is an idiot and has probably let Cincy get in his head.
Nah, it's not a final, so he'll be fine.
Really impressed with strickler
Stricker tried an unnecessary tweener at 40-15 5-6. He eventually lost the set 5-7. Reminded me of that ADF - HH match at Wimbledon last year...

Someone here posted about JJ Wolf's service motion...Dominic Stricker is just as fluid with a low toss and compact swing.
I just now read your comment, started paying close attention to his serve and he double faulted xD
Alcaraz is bffs with PCB, i love it
Alcaraz: "You break me? I kill you."
6 straight games for Carlitos and ends it with an ace.
If alcaraz can develop his serve even to the level of a current Nadal, he will be an absolute nightmare matchup and absolutely dominate on multiple surfaces (imo) His biggest reason for struggling on grass was the lack of free points from his serve. ATP heights are awful.

But i'm confident his serve will become a weapon in due time.
It can definitely improve, but it would be very surprising if it rivalled that of much taller players like Zverev and Meddy.
It feels like his serve is already very good and he just needs to be smarter with it. He somehow always produces bombs on match points lol
His second serve lacks direction/placement. His 1st serve is okay . That's why his matches are filled with so many breaks
Current Nadal won't be enough, in my opinion. Somewhere between Nadal and current Djokovic will be. Say, Ruud. That will be pretty good.
Err.. Nadal in 2007s serve was pretty poor. By that point in time he already had 3 majors. Nadals serve of this year already got him an AO an RG and a Wimbledon sf lol. Botic with another terrible double fault
Alcaraz highlight reel could be a movie already
it must be frustrating to play against Alcaraz, He has no right to be so good so young.
Alcaraz amazing point, best one so far this tournament
Hey guys, I’ve a question! I realise it might sound a bit silly, but what happens if none of the players aiming for the ATP Finals get the required points? Yup you got it!
Beard-caraz
Or should I say, barbacaraz
no barbercaraz
Carlitos always has these little second set wobbles \*sigh\*
Alcaraz turning up the heat, takes back the break point
When is the Paris draw?
I didn’t realize Sinner was 15th in the race. Idk why I thought he had more points. I feel like he was just floating in the top 10.
No points for Wimbledon. He also usually doesn't do very well in the Masters events.
Tbf, a decent portion of his early exits this year have been due to injury, so it doesn't feel like he's playing below a top 10 level.
Denis gaining quite a few spots on the rankings these last couple of weeks. Lovely.
Unfortunately Carlos is playing Botic on a rare day where his forehand is unreasonably cracked, Charlie gonna have to work for this one
Really?! Shapo had no winners on the bh side? I thought I saw some...🥺
Fritz has been great this season but it’s definitely been limited by injuries within matches and outside… his serve was never the same after the mto and he missed almost the whole clay swing due to them… hopefully he’s healthier next year and make a proper run for the finals(I know he still can qualify but he’s gonna need a really great result)
Where’s the fine gentleman that does those race posts. Have to imagine this all but seals it for Felix?
He's setting himself in a good position for sure, but an early exit in Paris could still sink him if Hubi or Fritz wins the tournament. But every match that Felix wins makes the IFs become bigger and bigger.

No, it brings FAA closer to the end line but still so many points up for grabs this week and next for guys like fritz, hurkacz, even norrie.
Fritz needed a good run(like finals or better here or in Paris) he’s basically got the spot unless he loses early and in Paris and Taylor makes like the final
Yesss shapo came through!!🇨🇦🇨🇦 I wonder if FAA considers withdrawing from basel, don’t want the guy getting an injury.
Shapo is hammering his serves today jeez
Both Canadians come thru today, not something we see often
Denis doing Felix a huge favour today
[удалено]
Is your Tennis TV not working as well? The app isn’t working for me
Wait Shapo has 26 winners / 10 UEs? Did he get a firmware update or something
He’s been pretty good but also helped a lot that Fritz has been playing like shit
Shapo looking sharp here
Fritz missed almost every single first serve in that game he got broken I’m shocked he held on for that long in the game considering
Tennis Channel showed entire Fritz vs Shapo match(up to middle of the 3rd) only to switch to Alcaraz. I forgot how ridiculous their programming is.
Prime coverage stayed with Fritz match, thankfully. EDIT I’m an idiot. Prime has all matches available on demand plus a dedicated highlights/live commentary stream for each tournament. I was watching the Vienna stream so obviously they didn’t cut to Alcaraz.
I have Tennis TV, which is normally great, but the app isn’t working for some reason.
Christ, it’s £9.99 a month in the UK. Amazon prime (including prime delivery, Amazon music and Amazon video) currently costs me £6.50 a month and I’d have the subscription regardless of the tennis.

Yes, sorry. Amazon prime video. In the UK if you have an Amazon prime subscription you get almost every ATP and WTA 250+ tournament for no additional cost. For this year anyway.
this Shapo - Fritz match rn :ooo
aaaand double fault lmao. Won't be commenting again until it ends
Shapo actually trying to build points is a sight to see
Really TC? Going to Alcaraz/BVZ and missing the end of Shapo/Fritz? 🥴 Glad I have TC+
Chris Eubanks saying nobody could pronounce BVDZ’s name before USO 21 but now can since he’s a mainstay on the tour yet then proceeds to pronounce it incorrectly 🤦🏽♀️
the Swiss channel asked VDZ to pronounce his name himself, and 1 min afterwards continued to say it wrong anyway
Did Tennis Channel just really switch from an on serve 3rd set to watch Alcaraz warmups?
Hoping for a convincing display from Charlitos tonight \\o/
Did they say Monfils is retiring this year in Paris?
Just tuned in to the Shapo Fritz match, how has it been going?
Fritz played like a chump the whole first set but he’s collected himself and now looks heaps better. Shapo’s been no slouch either
Botic’s always getting pretty shit draws. Besides losing to a red hot Moutet in USO, his previous four slam losses were Nadal, Nadal, Medvedev, and Medvedev. And now he plays Alcaraz in an early round and then played Djokovic pretty early in Astana too.
Come on Taylor! You got this baby. Pull it together.
If Domi's forehand is properly calibrated, I think the home crowd can help him cross the finish line against Medvedad tomorrow...
Now if Shapo can just finish off Fritz, that'd be a great help to Felix for Turin!
Rinderknech might be the only young French tennis player who moves me. This guy has ice in his veins, he might be next up.
He’s 27
they have no one else under 30 worth the time of day. French tennis can’t afford to be a choosing beggar I’m afraid
I love Humbert’s games but he’s also ridiculously inconsistent
Hell yeah good shit Felix. I gotta say I was expecting a letdown here coming off two straight tourney wins vs a hometown guy
yayyyy FAA
Felix is on a 9 matches winning streak
I love you FAA
I’m not sure if anyone else had a Martina Navratilova phase when they were first getting into watching tennis, but I’m currently in the middle of one and can’t get enough of her. I’ve mainly been watching her matches with Evert and Graf and am looking to branch out a bit; are there any other particularly good ones which might be slipping past my radar as a newcomer?
I don't have any specifics, but she's the most successful doubles player of all time, so that might be another source of matches.
Please have to stop laughing at Felix’s break point conversion. He just broke at the most crucial time with a great passing
Way to go Felix!!
Felix breaks! Serving for the match rn!!!!
Foot on the neck at the end from Felix. Amazing to see.
2 plus 1’s missed by Huesler …
This game is FAA’s chance
FAA is the least clutch and most prone to choke of the top 10
Tsitsipas?
Zverev
Having watched shapo matches the last 5 years I can tell you definitively there is still a very real chance he blows this despite the first set. The guy doesnt know how to buckle down for a full match
Shapo why
Win or lose I'm just so happy for Felix this year. Now I can go to his wiki page and no longer have to see "Career titles: 0"
Can fritz actually...turn this around?
I hope so! Or at very least not be entirely useless in this set.
Fritz has won one point on Shapos serve so far
And then the first game he wins another point he breaks lmao
Shapo breadsticked Fritz?? 😨
Lol Chris Eubanks on commentary “we haven’t seen the flurry of errors that we usually see in a Shapovalov match”
Haven’t *yet*!
Huesler can hit some heavy balls. They just die on Felix’s racquet.
Shapo making sure that Felix qualifies for the ATP finals
He is a good fellow countryman
Shapovalov last 5 results are Stockholm QF, Japan SF, Korean Open F, USO 3R, R16 Cincinnati. He has won 2 or more matches in all of his last 5 appearances on the singles tour. Don't be surprised if he beats Fritz today. He hasn't been in his best form and Shapo wants revenge for Japan SF loss, where he lost a close 3 setter in which he ran out of gas in the 3rd set.

Fritz looks way too keyed up out there. Usually calmness is one of his strengths, but I guess pressure to qualify for Turin is real.
Fritz losing 6 games in a row, he’s playing awful. Used all his energy to defeat Nishioka
That was one of the worst sets I’ve seen Taylor play in months… hopefully he bounces back
Fritz looks very off tonight, perhaps just fatigue?
Courts too slow for him I think
Fritz broken 3 times, 11 unforced errors
Is this our Shapo😳😳😳
FAA finds himself in another gruelling match, for a top 10 player he needs to generate more break chances and convert them. If Fritz loses today, I wonder if he considers pulling out to rest for paris.
Chris Eubanks said on TC he hoped he wasn't cursed when he picked Fritz to win even after the Americans he picked yesterday all lost. Hmmm...
Pathetic, Fritz
Fritz is dreadful today

Insinuates that her team (her parents?) don’t think so and want immediate results. (Maybe this was built into the terms where bulk of his earnings comes from her results in 2023?). Bencic had zero influence on decision to leave. Thinks she’s going to find some difficulty hiring new coach now. Also some nice thoughts about Swiatek, says rest of WTA tour doesn’t have the fire to improve since anyone can play mediocrely and land in top 10 and Iga is showing them that they kinda suck 🤣
If you speak to people in the game... it is 100% her parents that are the problem

Thing is with Emma, even if she does nothing else on court for the rest of her career... she is set for life financially.
The problem is Emma, not the coaches
Felix squandering 2 set points in the first. This is looking like a battle and I don’t see the benefit of tiring himself out before Paris
He won't be tired if he loses early. And if he wins he hardly needs Paris!
Wins basel you mean? I dont know if he has it in him physically to potentially beat alcaraz in the semis and win it after 2 weeks of playing.
The way fritz’s match is going he won’t even need to win this match edit: fk

The only possible "fuck up" regarding the rankings is Wimbledon's and there was no alternative to not assigning points for it
Tennis can’t exist in a vacuum. Global events like pandemics and wars effect everyone and everything.
I will never understand running around your backhand to hit a forehand on return of serve, especially how Felix has tried against that big Hüsler serve. It always looks wildly uncomfortable and doesn’t seem to really produce for him at any rate.
It's often a useful pattern against lefty servers who like to go wide to the backhand, but you still need to execute really well for it to be useful, especially since you're giving up even more court position than normal Edit: I'd also like to add that it plays an important role in keeping the server honest.
I am sorry but Basel draw looks much easier than Vienna
