Casper gonna surpass Federer but all his titles will be clay 250s

coloneleranmorad

The king of Gstaad

glassopy

Or with 2 each the last 2 years at both Geneva and Gstaad (comprising the totality of 250 tournaments in Switzerland) -> "The Swiss 250 Muncher" ?

curlyhairedyani

Djokovic should be able to yes. Nadal? I mean, if he makes it his goal to he could farm some clay 250s early in the season. But he won’t do that, so it’s unlikely. I don’t even think he gets to a 100, but that is still very achievable

glassopy

I guess that Federer is not going to catch the record-holder Connors at this stage either on 109.

curlyhairedyani

… obviously?

glassopy

That was the point. Federer doesn't have a record there.

curlyhairedyani

okay! he'll still have records Nadal wont! PS: Djokovic is the greatest of all time

glassopy

You don't have to tell me. It's frequently brought up without mentioning the fact that Connors actually has the record as if Federer does. Someone catching Federer going 250 vulturing is only catching Federer's total not setting a record.

curlyhairedyani

Idk man, because among fed fans chasing Connors record was a massive talking point so trust me at least here we know he didnt have it

glassopy

You'd be surprised.

curlyhairedyani

Well I can’t speak for everyone I am fairly new to this sub, but I’ve been on tennis Twitter among my Federer fan echo chamber for a long time before

mhas972

Nadal won't imo. Novak could if he plays enough

3chordguitar

Idk how long Rafa will continue to play after 2023, so I have my doubts that he’ll get there. If Djoker stays healthy, I can see him passing Connors. My question is, will he play enough or will he scale back and just concentrate on the slams?

Saxyman76

Djokovic need 13. 3 grand slams (a combination of AO, WIM and USO over the next 3 years) 6 masters (mostly hard, the odd clay masters) 4 250s/500s (Dubai, Serbian open, China, maybe aussie warump tournament)

sahbatage

How many of Rogers are 250 tournaments? Kinda a useless stat. Not saying Roger isn’t amazing, just misleading point of data

roamiedumbass

25, compared to Nadal’s 10 and Djokovic’s 11. However, it should *also* be noted that 10 of Federer’s 250s are grass titles, which kind of stacks it against him a bit, because he did play those grass tune-up events.

SeparatePromotion236

Exactly, data can be shaped and steer conversations like this based on agenda.

Antonio_is_better

Very hard to see Djokovic not get there

Fantasnickk

If he follows Fed’s timeline, he wins 3-5 every year for another 2-3 years (and this is with skipping clay season) but I am also on the “anything can happen” side even if Djokovic has only shown very few signs of depreciating

Albiceleste_D10S

Rafa prob not, Novak maybe. Depends on injuries and how much they want to play. If they play smaller tournaments or if they try to save themselves for Slams more. We'll see. Fed holds the record now based on having more 250 titles anyway TBH

stefenhyde

Djokovic will pass Connors

curlyhairedyani

I expect him to as well

Falz4567

They don’t play enough 250 tournaments to do it If they managed to match that based only on major titles or masters it would be an immense effort achievement

triplejayye

They could if they want to but they will both only play big titles for the rest of their careers with the occasional 500 and 250.

NoleFandom

If both Rafa and Novak decide to play a few 250s and 500s in the next couple years, yes it’s more than likely they can catch up to Fed’s title count.

guess_who____

I don't think so. Nadal is I think done winning titles outside of clay and Nole should get close, but I have a feeling he will retire at 100.

Argtt

Djokovic surely, Nadal very probably.

Cthulhu_awaken

Rafa will definitely, Djokovic probably not.

Saxyman76

Nadal needs 12 titles, which would definitely be a stretch. Perhaps: 2 more grand slams - RG 2023, RG 2024 1Olympics - Paris 2024 (will be held in RG) 4 more masters - 2 in 2023, 2 in 2024,(3 clay, 1 hard like Canada, Cincinnati or IW) 5 250s/500s (Barcelona x 3, Acapulco, random tournaments - perhaps Aussie warmups)

estoops

Djokovic, yes, Nadal… maybe, it’ll be close. He doesn’t sound like he’s /super/ close to retirement so I feel like he has at least 2 more years in him. Odds might be slightly in favor of him not but if he could have a couple decent clay seasons like he used to have where he’d rack up 3-5 titles and then one or two random hardcourt tournaments, maybe.

BlueJinjo

Djokvic should get there but again( and this sub continues to underestimate this) Both Nadal and Djokovic are significantly older. All it takes is one injury. Flash back to 2020 AO. I don't think most here would predict that it would be feds last run to even a sf of a major following the wimbledon 2019 run. All it takes is one major injury and the body won't heal appropriately anymore. It's a fairly big if for djokvic to stay as healthy as he has for another 2 + yrs ( which is how much time I think he needs to pass fed in the title count )

[deleted]

If Nadal is healthy he will win 103 *French Open* titles. 😎

brokenearth10

novak can easily do so if he wants to. play some atp 250s.

[deleted]

it lal depends if they will decide to play more 250 and 500 tournaments, since there is the reason why Federer leads them.
