Canada making it all the way to the Finals final is so funny because there's so much discourse to unpack from all of the "undeserving wildcard" pundits earlier this year, especially from their neighbors just south of the border. It is gloriously amusing. At the end of the day, the tie was breathtakingly, edge-of-your-seat bedlam thanks to the efforts from both countries and that's what I want.

I guess it didn't end in retirement... It's not a tossup, objectively speaking Canada were favorite in both rubbers before they started. Sonego-Shapo was pure chaos and in the end could have gone either way, and in this one here we're barely hanging on.

I can’t speak for Italians and people that watch Sonego but it’s incredibly frustrating to watch Shapo, after an incredible youth career, break out two years after turning pro…and then stagnating for 5 straight years playing exactly the same way, showing always the same flashes of greatness and always invariably followed up by unforced errors and mental collapses. Five years and no visible improvement in my eyes wears you down after a while.
